  I'm looking for a free or open source way to send emails to new employees when there account is created. I'm ok if its a powershell script, or something else which runs once per day. • Ping issues with Windows Server 2008 R2 with mail server!

  For some reason I can ping all servers in my network except for the mail server and the mail server can ping all servers except the windows server 2008 R2. The firewall has been disabled and still it doesn't respond. The weird part is that every once in a while it will all of a sudden start allowing pings and then just as suddenly stop allowing pings. I've made sure there's no type-o's in the ip address or subnet mask or gateway. Any other ideas?

• What is wrong with this call to schtasks on Win 7?

  I'm trying to run this in a Win 7 Professional admin console: schtasks /create /tn "Task at 16:40 on 10/27/2012" /sc "once" /st "16:40" /sd "10/27/2012" /tr "c:\python27\python.exe c:\users\jost\Desktop\executeScript.py" All referenced files exist. The error message I get is ERROR: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. What is wrong? Running the command directly on the command line works fine.

• How can I omit an application from showing up as frequently used in the start menu?

  I used to use a certain application very frequently (WinSCP), but I now seldom use it. As such, I explicitly removed it from the start-menu's frequently used list. However, now if I use it even just once, it jumps to the top of the list and I have to remove it manually again. Is there a way I can tell Windows to simply omit the application from the start menu list?

  I'm trying to measure would it be better to have prefork or worker mpm apache module for the server I'm working on, which is Amazon X-Large 15 GB memory 8 EC2 Compute Units (4 virtual cores with 2 EC2 Compute Units each) and that will run a Magento website with about 50 active users at once. Site serves a lot of images and about 45 requests per page. Images sometimes hang, so it seems worker would be a better option? Thanks

• Want to automate adding Hidden photos to iPhoto using a folder action

  I'm trying to find away to create an automator action that puts photos into iPhoto but also adds the hidden tag to them. I've started with the folder action template because I'd like to save the files there and have automator kick off a series of steps that ends with the original image being hidden once I've had the enhancement, re-size, etc steps fire off. The only step I can't figure out is applying the hidden image attribute.

• why dont my "FN + Volume up/down" keys work?

  i have a toshiba laptop with windows vista, i turned on my computer once and it had a little red x on the volume speaker, i reinstalled the drive(im not sure if i did that right though) and now sounds works. but i cant lower the sound with "FN and Up/Down arrows", or mute. is there a way to fix this somehow? thanks.

  I will be migrating my Windows 7 install to a VHD to use inside Windows Server 2008 Hyper V, but I plan on upgrading my memory, CPU and mobo. Once these hardware upgrades are done, this is when I will then install Windows Server as the host OS. Is it possible that the Windows 7 VHD will still work even on the new hardware, as a Hyper-V VM?

• Single click to accept meeting invite in Outlook 2010

  In Outlook 2003 when I received a meeting invite I could click the Accept button once to accept it. In Outlook 2010 I have to click Accept, then click "Send the response now", which is completely useless - what else do I need to say other than "yes, I'll be there"? How do I restore the old behaviour so that a I can accept with a single click? (Declining is different, of course - I might want to edit the message then.)

• Monitoring folder diffs across servers with zabbix

  Problem: I want to make sure that a certain folder is equal regarding it's contents across my servers. I do not want an automatic filesync to keep them equal, changing is done manually. My initial thought was to once a day calculate some crc/hash on folder and send to Zabbix, and trigger when values differ. Is there any good tools out there that can calculate crc or similar of a folder? Anyone know of another solution that solves my problem?

  My understanding is that when a cpu is in C0 state , the cpufreq governor decides what P-state the CPU should reside in .When a CPU goes idle, it falls from C0 state to a deeper C-state. The cpuidle govenor, say menu , takes over in deciding which C-state the CPU should go to , once the CPU goes idle . Is my understanding correct ?

  Hello all-- so, a DLL is similar to a folder, but it allows for multiple programs/executables to access it at once, thus conserving memory (I think). What is Mac's equivalent of a DLL? I was looking through the Google Chrome folders inside ~/Library/Application Support, and instead of the regular Windows Default.dll there was just a folder, "Default" as a regular file, with contents, I assume, would regularly be inside the DLL. Does the Mac equivalent provide the same function?

  When you select some text with Firefox and Chrome for that matter you can right click the highlight text and search some query (highlight the text above and right click) Search Google for "some query" How can I stop it from opening in the new tab. I cannot find it in about:config or chrome://plugins I don't want it opened in the SAME tab. • Web server freezing or taking too long to load page sometimes

  This is happens once in a while, but sometimes when I try to load a web page from my server it just freezes there for a minute trying to load it. I'm not sure what's causing the issue, or have been able to recreate it. My guess is that one of the softwares I listed below is freezing or something.   I have a tree of snapshots taken about once an hour as I progressed through a rather tricky server setup. Now that I'm done, I would like to get rid of the snapshots, but I gather that these are actually differencing drives. If that's the case, does it not mean that deleting a snapshot will in fact revert me back to a previous point in time. Or does it mean that deleting a snapshot merges the changed bits into the parent VHD.
