  • Frequently getting booted from Securemote VPN-1 Connection

    - by Nick L.
I connect to my office's network remotely through the Checkpoint SecuRemote E75 (R75) VPN application, but recently it's been causing me a lot of issues when connecting from home. I connect through a WRT54GL router running DD-WRT v24 firmware, so I have no clue if that affects anything. I took a dump of the logs for Checkpoint and here are the messages that populate when I get booted but I have no clue how to decipher them and my IT department is completely clueless in terms of resolving the situation. I'm thinking the router is blocking the keep alive connection or something along those lines, but I have no idea how to fix the problem. • What does 'Highest active time' for disk activity in Windows resource monitor mean?

    - by Nick R
I know what the disk io, disk queue length and other measures are, but what does 'Highest active time' mean? Is it the amount of time it is busy handling requests, or something else? When it is high, does it mean the CPU is busy doing some IO work, or is it just indicating that the disk is busy handling requests? I'm trying to work out if 50% active time means that 50% of the time the disk is either seeking, reading or writing, rather than the kernel is spending 50% of it's time servicing IO requests. Edit Another quick data point here. If you look at the difference between an SSD and a physical disk, the SSD has significantly less activity, so I guess this really means the amount of time the operating system is waiting for the disk to respond and returning data.

  • RHEL hangs after starting virt-who succesfully

    - by Nick
Idea #1: Is there a way to REPAIR an RHEL 6.2 installation? During the start-up procedure, after a recent forced reboot, my Linux machine (RHEL 6.2) hangs right after successfully starting virt-who. I can use login screens (Alt + F2/F3...) in text mode. I am clueless -- how can I find out what is the next step in the startup sequence? That step is most likely what is causing it to hang. • SQL Server installation leaves odd hotfix folders on the root

    - by Nick
I have about a dozen weirdly named folders, for example 5e812807b3e1b04248ed046794a01b, on my d: drive after installing SQL Server 2008. Inside each folder are two subfolders: 1033 and hotfixexpress \1033\eula.txt \1033\finalsql2005information.rtf \1033\hotfix.rll \1033\sqlhotfix.chm \1033\sqlse.rll \hotfixexpress\files\sqlexpr.exe I get access denied whenever I try to delete any of these files / folders. I tried again after stopping all SQL server services, without luck. Any ideas?

  • Windows 7 video driver for Intel 82865G graphics chipset

    - by Nick Kavadias
I have an old Dell Inspirion 3000 which came with Windows XP. It's still quite decent, 3 GHz P4, 2 GB RAM. I've installed windows 7 RTM (x86) & the best resolution it will do is 640x480 with a generic driver. It has an integrated Intel 8265G graphics card, and only PCI slots on the motherboard. I cannot stick another graphics card on it. Can I get a working driver for Windows 7? Official Dell website only lists XP drivers Am I destined to have the suckiness of XP on this computer forever?

  • "powershell has stopped working" on PS exit after creating IIS User

    - by Nick Jones
On a Windows Server 2012 box, I'm using PS to create a new IIS User (for automated deployments using MSDeploy). The command itself appears to work fine -- the user is created -- but as soon as I exit my PowerShell session (typing exit or just closing the command window), a dialog is displayed stating "powershell has stopped working", with the following details: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: PowerShell NameOfExe: powershell.exe FileVersionOfSystemManagementAutomation: 6.2.9200.16628 InnermostExceptionType: Runtime.InteropServices.InvalidComObject OutermostExceptionType: Runtime.InteropServices.InvalidComObject DeepestPowerShellFrame: unknown DeepestFrame: System.StubHelpers.StubHelpers.GetCOMIPFromRCW ThreadName: unknown OS Version: 6.2.9200.2.0.0.400.8 Locale ID: 1033 The PS commands in question are: [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.Web.Management") [Microsoft.Web.Management.Server.ManagementAuthentication]::CreateUser("Foo", "Bar") Why is this happening and how can I avoid it? EDIT: I've also confirmed this be a problem with PowerShell 4.0, so I've added that tag. I've also submitted it on Connect. UPDATE: It appears that Windows Server 2012 R2 does not have this same bug.

  • Easiest way to allow direct HTTPS connection in Intercept mode?

    - by Nick Lin
I know the SSL issue has been beaten to death I'm using DNS redirect to force my clients to use my intercept proxy. As we all know, intercepting HTTPS connection is not possible unless I provide a fake certificate. What I want to achieve here is to allow all HTTPS requests connect directly to the source server, thus bypassing Squid: HTTP connection Proxy by Squid HTTPS connection Bypass Squid and connect directly I spent the past few days goolging and trying different methods but none worked so far. I read about SSL tunneling using the CONNECT method but couldn't find any more information on it. I tried a similar method in using RINETD to forward all traffic going through port 443 of my Squid back to the original IP of www.pandora.com. Unfortunately, I did not realize all other HTTPS requests are also forwarded to the IP of www.pandora.com. For example, https://www.gmail.com also takes me to https://www.pandora.com Since I'm running the Intercept mode, the forwarding needs to be dynamic and match each HTTPS domain name with proper original IP. Can this be done in Squid or iptables? Lastly, I'm directing traffic to my Squid server using DNS zone redirect. For example, a client requests www.google.com, my DNS server directs that request to my Squid IP, then my transparent Squid will proxy that request. Will this set up affect what I'm trying to achieve? I tried many methods but couldn't get it to work. Any takes on how to do this?

  • List all hotfixes applied to windows server

    - by Nick Kavadias
There used to be a command line tool called QFECheck in Windows Server 2000 that would list them out. Is this the preferred method on windows server 2003/2008? I know they're listed in Add/Remove programs, but it's hard to capture them for an audit this way. Can i do this without having to install an add-on executable?

  • How do I troubleshoot a "Bad Request" in Apache2?

    - by Nick
    I have a PHP application that loads for all URLs except the home page. Visiting "https://my.site.com/" produces a "Bad Request" error message. Any other URL, for example, "https://my.site.com/SomePage/" works just fine. It's only the home page that does not work. All pages use mod_rewrite and get routed through a single dispatch script, Director.php. Accessing Director.php directly also produces the "Bad Request" error. BUT- ALL of the other requests go through Director, and they all work just fine, (excluding the home page), so it can't be an issue with the Director.php script? OR can it? I'm not seeing anything in the Apache2 error log, and I'm not seeing any PHP errors in the PHP Error log. I've tried changing the first line of Director.php to read: echo 'test'; exit(); But I still get a "Bad Request". This is the rewrite log for a request to the home page: 123.123.123.123 - - [18/Feb/2011:05:38:49 +0000] [my.site.com/sid#7f273d77cb80][rid#7f273da48b28/initial] (2) init rewrite engine with requested uri / 123.123.123.123 - - [18/Feb/2011:05:38:49 +0000] [my.site.com/sid#7f273d77cb80][rid#7f273da48b28/initial] (3) applying pattern '^/([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]+)/$' to uri '/' 123.123.123.123 - - [18/Feb/2011:05:38:49 +0000] [my.site.com/sid#7f273d77cb80][rid#7f273da48b28/initial] (3) applying pattern '^/([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]+)/$' to uri '/' 123.123.123.123 - - [18/Feb/2011:05:38:49 +0000] [my.site.com/sid#7f273d77cb80][rid#7f273da48b28/initial] (1) pass through / 123.123.123.123 - - [18/Feb/2011:05:38:49 +0000] [my.site.com/sid#7f273d77cb80][rid#7f273da5a298/subreq] (2) init rewrite engine with requested uri /Director.php 123.123.123.123 - - [18/Feb/2011:05:38:49 +0000] [my.site.com/sid#7f273d77cb80][rid#7f273da5a298/subreq] (2) rewrite '/Director.php' - '-[L,NC]' 123.123.123.123 - - [18/Feb/2011:05:38:49 +0000] [my.site.com/sid#7f273d77cb80][rid#7f273da5a298/subreq] (3) applying pattern '^/([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]+)/$' to uri '-[L,NC]' 123.123.123.123 - - [18/Feb/2011:05:38:49 +0000] [my.site.com/sid#7f273d77cb80][rid#7f273da5a298/subreq] (3) applying pattern '^/([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9\-\_]+)/$' to uri '-[L,NC]' 123.123.123.123 - - [18/Feb/2011:05:38:49 +0000] [my.site.com/sid#7f273d77cb80][rid#7f273da5a298/subreq] (2) local path result: -[L,NC] Apache2 Access Log my.site.com:443 123.123.123.123 - - [18/Feb/2011:05:44:19 +0000] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 400 3223 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100723 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.8" Any ideas?   • Apache configuration to make NTLM authentication work through a Proxy

    - by Nick Pierpoint
I'm running an application server behind an Apache proxy with the following sort of thing in my Apache config: ProxyPass /app http://myapplication:8080/myapp ProxyPassReverse /app http://myapplication:8080/myapp When I switch on NTLM authentication (using mod_ntlm) the authentication fails (it works fine when bypassing the proxy). A quick search reveals lots of issues when running NTLM behind a proxy due to the connection-specific NTLM specification. Does anyone have a working Apache configuration that allows NTLM authentication through a proxy? Thanks for any help.

  • Cannot connect to local network shares when connected to VPN. Error: "the user name could not be found"

    - by Nick G
I keep finding that on our small company LAN (7 users, 3 servers) that some servers keep becoming "not accessible" for the purposes of file sharing. They display the message "\SERVER is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. The user name could not be found". But I don't know why "the user name could not be found" as all the machines are on the same domain and the PDC and BDC seem to be behaving OK. EDIT: VPN seems to be the cause: It turns out I can see the server if I use the IP address (\\1.2.3.4\ etc) or the FQ active directory name (eg \server.domainname.local) but not if I use the server name on its own or a mapped network drive originally created from the "short" name. Oddly though, my machine has no issue resolving the server's DNS name as I can ping the machine name OK and it immediately comes back with the IP, however nslookup seems to fail. It seems to be a problem with how Windows looks up machine names when connected to VPNs. When I'm connected to a VPN, windows seems to use the DNS assocated with the VPN and not the one on the domain controller. This behavior to me, seems incorrect as surely that would mean connecting to any VPN would break any ability to lookup local machine names for servers and printers etc. So I guess the real question now is, how can I make my machine still search the local Active Directory DNS (the PDC) even when connected to a VPN? More info in my comments below.

  • OpenSSL x509 Purpose flag "Any Purpose" What is this?

    - by Nick
Looking at the details of a certificate using the following: openssl x509 -noout -text -purpose -in mycert.pem I find a bunch of purpose flags (which I've discovered are set by the various extensions attached to a certificate). One of these purpose flags is "Any Purpose". I can't seem to find ANY documentation on this flag and why or why not it is set. Do any of you know where I can find more information on this purpose and what it means? Thanks,

  • How Can I Automate the Backup of a Quickbooks Server?

    - by Nick
I have three computers: The first is the company file server which has the Quick Books company file, is always on, and lives in the closet. The other two are Quick Books Clients. All are XP Pro. I need a way to automatically backup the QB data file, without any user intervention. Quick Books has a built in scheduled backup utility, but from what I've read, it only works when the software is running in single user mode. (and obviously putting the server into single user mode defeats the concept of having a server). Also, I'm not actually running QB itself on the server, just the "QB Database Server" process that sits in the system tray. Surely there must be a way to automate this? I'm open to any ideas/suggestions. Thanks!

  • Using WSUS Admin Console from outside domain

    - by Nick
Environment: I have a workstation on our primary domain. We have a primary WSUS Server that is the upstream server of 8 different testing domains. The Primary WSUS server is not part of any domain. Routing is configured between my workstation and the Primary WSUS server. I can RDP to the Primary WSUS sever without any problem. The router is configured to forward any any between my workstation and the Primary WSUS server. This WSUS server cannot be part of a domain due to external requirements (I can't change them) on the lab I work in. The version of WSUS is WSUS 3.0 SP 2 What I want to do: I need to connect to the WSUS server with the WSUS Admin console from my local workstation. The end goal is to connect via Powershell and manage with that. I also need to take what I do here and port it to the 8 test domains so I can manage those WSUS servers. The routing is all in place so I can talk to the servers, it's just connecting to the WSUS console that is causing problems. The problem: I cannot get my workstation to connect to the WSUS Console. I get one of the following errors depending on the setup. 1st error: Cannot connect to 'WSUS'. You do not have the permissions required to access this WSUS server. To connect to the server you must be a member of the WSUS Administrators or WSUS Reporters security groups I also get the warning 7012 from the event log that says the same thing. 2nd error: Cannot connect to 'WSUS'. The server may be using another port or different Secure Sockets Layer setting. What I have tried: So far I have configured IIS for Anonymous Authentication on both the WSUS Administration and ApiRemoting30 using an account will call WSUS_User. With this in place, I get the 1st error. When I do this though, the local WSUS Console cannot be used either. Reverting back to only Windows Authentication allows the local console to work, but the remote console now give the 2nd error. I have confirmed the port, and that there is no SSL in use (which is a policy that is pushed from above, that I cannot effect). I have placed WSUS_User in the groups mentioned above, but it still does not connect. I made sure WSUS_User has full access on C:\Program Files\Update Services and C:\Program Files\Update Services\WebServices I am not very familiar with the workings of WSUS or IIS, and have gone as far as I can figure out on my own. Googling these errors all take me to the same steps about Anonymous Authentication and configuring permissions on folders. Note: I have cross-posted this to StackOverflow as well.

I've tried restarting the saslauthd and cyrus2.2 daemons, with no effect. What else can I try?

  • Dynamically add Server 2008 NLB Nodes

    - by Nick Jacques
    Hi All, I have a small NLB cluster for Terminal Servers. One of the things we're looking at doing for this particular project (this is for a college class) is dynamically creating Terminal Servers. What we've done is create policies for a certain OU, that sets the proper TS Farm properties and installs the Terminal Server role and NLB feature. Now what we'd like to do is create a script to be run on our Domain Controller to add hosts to the preexisting NLB cluster. On our Server 2008 R2 Domain Controller, I was thinking of running the following PowerShell script I've kind of hacked together. Any thoughts on if this will work? Is there any way I can trigger this script to run on the DC once all the scripts to install roles are done on the various Terminal Servers? Thanks very much in advance!! Import-Module NetworkLoadBalancingClusters $TermServs = @() $Interface = "Local Area Connection" $ou = [ADSI]"LDAP://OU=Term Servs,DC=example,DC=com" foreach ($child in $ou.psbase.Children) { if ($child.ObjectCategory -like '*computer*') {$TermServs += $child.Name} } foreach ($TS in $TermServs) { Get-NlbCluster 172.16.0.254 | Add-NlbClusterNode -NewNodeName $TS -NewNodeInterface $Interface }

  • SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services - Configuration Manager & Management Studio Problems

    - by Nick
When I open Reporting Services Configuration Manager on my server, an error message appears that says: Reporting Services Configuration Manager An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 800706B3 This error appears before I can even attempt to connect to an SSRS instance. In addition to this problem, I'm not able to connect to my SSRS instance via SSMS on my desktop. When I attempt to connect, I get the following error message: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib) Additional information: The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt) Information about my environment: Server: Win Server 2K3 x64, SQL 2005 x64 SP3 Build 9.0.4053 Desktop: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Steps I have already taken: I have installed the latest service pack on my server and workstation. I do not see any errors in my event logs.

  • Qnap TS-809 NAS

    - by Nick
I'm looking for a portable NAS solution for around 30 servers to back up to. I require 8-16TB of space. Does anyone have any experience of the Qnap TS-809 and know if it would be suitable for this many servers to be backing up to?

  • CPU Test Similar to Memtest?

    - by Nick Whaley
I need an easy way to do system stability tests. I have come to rely on Prime95 which does a fantastic job of proving stability (or instability) very quickly; but it requires an OS installed. I would like something like Prime95 that stresses both CPU and RAM (maybe PCI-Ex bus also?) but runs in a nice bootable binary like Memtest86+ does, so I can boot it from a thumbdrive. Does such a thing exist?

I currently have postfix set up to relay messages from my websites through gmail, and up until recently it was working perfectly.
