  Még tart az Upgrade 11g szeminárium, de a prezentáció már elérheto, letöltheto innen az upgrade112 jelszó megadását követoen. A prezentáció egy bovebb változat, hiszen két napos workshop-ra van tervezve. Lehetoség van arra, hogy a jövoben egy 2 napos workshopot szervezzünk, ahol már nem csak slide-ok, de hands-on gyakorlatok is lennének.   Jövo héten, május 20-án Oracle Sun Java Roadshow konferencia lesz Ramada Plaza Budapest Hotel helszínnel. Hogy jön ide a blog-ba egy Java konferencia kedvcsinálója? A tervezett program ismeretében talán már nem olyan meglepo. Ugyanis az egyik eloadás a közelmúltban megjelent Oracle Berkeley újdonságairól fog szólni. Bár az Oracle már 2006 februárjában felvásárolta a Berkeley DB-t, azóta Magyarországon nem volt olyan Oracle rendezvény, ahol érdemben szó esett volna róla, így mindenkit bíztatok, hogy ne hagyja ki ezt a lehetoséget.

  Luis Moreno Campos ocpdba oracle weblog blogjában találtam a fenti fotót és a hírt, hogy megjelent az elso Oracle Exadata-ról szóló könyv! Már a tartalomjegyzék alapján nagyon ígéretes a könyv. Azt gondolom kötelezo olvasmány mindazoknak, akik használják, használni fogják az Oracle Exadata Database Machine-t, vagy egyszeruen csak érdeklodnek azon Oracle technológiák iránt, melyek annyira kimagasló képességuvé teszik ezt a korszakváltó adatbázis szervert. • Laptoppal a HOUG konferenci&aacute;ra

  Mához 3 hétre kezdodik a HOUG konferencia. Március 28-án hétfon, a konferencia 0. napján délután Workshop-okkal indítjuk a konferenciát, amelyek közül több is lehetoséget ad arra, hogy a résztvevok saját laptopjukon kipróbálhassák az Oracle különbözo termékeit. Én egy Oracle Data Masking Hands-on Workshop-ot fogok tartani a deperszonalizáció, anonimizálás bemutatására, amely keretében egy Virtualbox image-et kap minden résztvevo. Szükség lesz kb. 20GB szabad területre, 3 GB memóriára. Valami oknál fogva a Data Masking Demo nem szereti az AMD processzorokat, így érdemes Intel alapú processzorral felszerelt laptoppal érkezni. Mivel egymás után több hands-on részvételre is lehetoség nyílik, ezért aki szeretné az image-eket megorízni, az készüljön megfelelo méretu háttértárral.

• 1. születésnap - új tartalom

  Kb. 1 éve, június elején kezdtem a blogot írni. Az elmúlt egy év alatt 3395 egyedi látogatója volt a blognak, a látogatók alkalmanként átlagosan 59 másodpercet töltöttek el itt. Azt is el kell ismerni, hogy elég nagy a visszafordulási arány (83,5%), azaz az idetévedok kevesebb mint ötöde találja hasznosnak a tartalmat. Ennek persze lehet egy fontos oka, hogy az IT kifejezésekre keresések miatt külföldiek számára is feljön a keresokben a blogom, így csak megnyitva a blogot észlelik, hogy nem értenek magyarul :-). Jól mutatja az alábbi térkép is, hogy a világ számos pontjáról idetalálnak (van aki egyébként használ valami webes fordító megoldást a nyelvi akadály leküzdésére), de az is látszik hogy a célközönséget is sikerül elérni, azaz a látogatók zöme Magyarországról érkezik (3505 látogatás az összes 5082-bol). Érdekes, hogy a legtöbb látogató a "vb tippjáték" (110 látogató) kifejezésre talált ide, ezt követi az "oracle junior képzés" (42), majd a "kyte" (40) (nem biztos hogy Tom Kyte-ra gondoltak :-)). Csupán a 4. helyen áll az elso igazi IT keresés: "oracle workflow" (37), majd "oracle enterprise manager" (33). A napi csúcslátogatást (76) is a vb tippjátékra keresoknek köszönheti a blog... Az 1. születésnap örömére próbáltam valami újítást csinálni. A fejléc alatt látható új menüsorba próbálom összeszedni azokat a hasznos oldalakat, amelyek kapcsolódnak a blog témájához, ám esetleg nem annyira egyszeru rátalálni a weben. Tervezem még ezt tovább bovíteni, esetleg egy külön oldalt is létrehozni erre a célra a blog mögött. Remélem ezzel segítem a blog olvasók munkáját.

• Enterprise Manager Grid Control licencelése

  Gyakran kapok kérdéseket az Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control licencelésével kapcsolatban, ezért az alábbiakban igyekszem összefoglalni a legfontosabb információkat. Az alábbi ismerteto nem teljes köru, mivel számos olyan termék van (Data Masking, Real Application Testing, Real User Experience Insight, Application Testing Suite), melyek kapcsolódnak az Enterprise Manager-hez, azonban licencelésük másképp muködik. Az Enterprise Manager licenceléssel kapcsolatban az elsodleges információ forrás a Licensing Information doksi. A legfontosabb információk: - A Grid Control keretrendszer (Agent-ek és a konzol az alapfunkciókkal - lásd késobb) önmagában ingyenes, sot restricted-use licencet tartalmaz Oracle Database-re, amennyiben azt csak az Oracle Management Repository céljára használják. Fontos, hogy ez nem tartalmaz egyéb Oracle Database opciókat, mint például a RAC! Hasonlóképpen az Oracle WebLogic Server is kizárólagosan az Oracle Management Server kiszolgálására használható ingyenesen, de fürtözés nélkül. - A Grid Control alapfunkcionalitása: Discovery, Groups, Job Scheduling, Real time availability, Performance & monitoring, Target Home Pages, Administration, Console alerts - Az alapfunkcionalitás felügyelt termékektol függoen bovítheto Management Pack, Plug-in és Connector termékekkel. Alapvetoen ezek licencelése mindig a monitorozott, felügyelt termék licenceléséhez kell, hogy igazodjon. Tehát például ha 2 adatbázis szerverre szeretnénk Diagnostic Pack-ek használni, akkor mindkettore kell CPU vagy NUP (Named User Plus) licencet vásárolni, attól függoen az adatbázis maga milyen licenccel rendelkezik. Megjegyzem ezt a konkrét Management Pack-ek kizárólag Enterprise Edition Database esetén lehet alkalmazni. - Számos fizetos funkció külön telepítés nélkül is elérheto a Grid Control felületén (ugyanez igaz Database Control-ra és Fusion Middleware Control-ra is). Hogy elkerüljük a licenc sértést, érdemes ellenorízni hogy az adott környezetben mely Management Pack-ek használata került bekapcsolásra. Ezt a Grid Control Setup menüjében a Management Pack Access almenüben tehetjük meg legegyszerubben. Részleteseb leírás itt található. Database Diagnostic és Tuning Pack adatbázis szintu kikapcsolására is lehetoség van, hogy parancssorból se lehessen használni oket, errol korábban már írtam. Az egyes management termékek USD ára megtalálható az árlistában. Ha valami fontos kimaradt, várom a kérdéseket, hozzászólásokat, és igény szerint bovítem a fentieket.

• bluetooth doesn't turn off during sleep in Windows 7

  I have a Bluetooth USB dongle on a Windows 7 laptop. I did not install any Bluetooth drivers, so I assume that the device is using the Microsoft stack. When the computer goes to sleep, the Bluetooth adapter stays on. I don't want Bluetooth devices to wake the computer, so I want sleep to turn off the dongle, but I can't find power management options for Bluetooth in the Control Panel and Device Manager. I also have an issue where the computer doesn't reach full sleep mode, I'm hoping that turning Bluetooth off will solve that problem, too. How can I turn off Bluetooth during sleep?

  I'd like to append to the global PATH variable on OS X so that all user shells and GUI applications get the same PATH environment. I know I can append to the path in shell startup scripts, but those settings are not inherited by GUI applications. The only way I found so far is to redefine the PATH environment variable in /etc/launchd.conf: setenv PATH /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/my/path I coulnd't figure out a way to actually append to PATH in launchd.conf. I'm a bit worried about this method, but so far this is the only thing that works. Does anyone know of a better way?

• can't delete files on Windows 7 (permission)

  I updated my laptop from XP to Windows 7. There are some leftover files from XP on the computer now, when I try deleting them I get an error: You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from S-1-.... to make changes to this folder. What's weird is that I am logged in with the only user account on this machine and I have administrator privileges. I tried turning UAC off, but still can't delete the files. How can I force removal of these files?

• Nice name for `decorator' class?

  I would like to separate the API I'm working on into two sections: 'bare-bones' and 'cushy'. The idea is that all method calls in the 'cushy' section could be expressed in terms of the ones in the 'bare-bones' section, that is, they would only serve as convenience methods for the quick-and-dirty. The reason I would like to do this is that very often when people are beginning to use an API for the first time, they are not interested in details and performance: they just want to get it working. Anybody tried anything similar before? I'm particularly interested in naming conventions and organizing the code.

  I'd like to be able to comment out a single flag in a one-line command. Bash only seems to have `from # till end-of-line' comments. I'm looking at tricks like: ls -l $([ ] && -F is turned off) -a /etc It's ugly, but better than nothing. Anybody has any better suggestions?

• What happens to stderr/stdout streams after Process#destroy() in Java?

  Here's my problem. I'd like to have a timeout for a process I start from Java. After the timeout, I'd like to kill the process. So far, so good. Problem is, I want to capture stderr/stdout during both normal execution and after a timeout. What happens if I kill the process with destroy()? Can I retrieve the (partial) stderr/stdout produced so far? Or are they gone?

• GridView: How can I get rid of extra space from my GirdView object?

  Hello, I'm writing an application for Android phones for Human vs. Human chess play over the internet. I was looking at some tutorials, to learn how to develop Android applications and found a very nice example of making galleries (it was a GridView usage example for making a gallery about dogs) and the idea came to draw the chess table using a GridView, because the example project also handled the point & click event and I intended to use the same event in the same way, but for a different purpose. The game works well (currently it's a hotseat version), however, I'm really frustrated by the fact that whenever I rotate the screen of the phone, my GridView gets hysterical and puts some empty space in my chess table between the columns. I realized that the cause of this is that the GridView's width is the same as its parent's and the GridView tries to fill its parent in with, but there should (and probably is) be a simple solution to get rid of this problem. However, after a full day of researching, I haven't found any clue to help me to make a perfect drawing about my chess table without a negative side effect in functionality. The chess table looks fine if the phone is in Portrait mode, but in Landscape mode it's far from nice. • Message Queue with 'Message Barrier' Feature?

  Is there a message queue implementation that allows breaking up work into 'batches' by inserting 'message barriers' into the message stream? Let me clarify. No messages after a message barrier should be delivered to any consumers of the queue, until all messages before the barrier are consumed. Sort of like a synchronization point. I'd also prefer if all consumers received notification when they reached a barrier. Anything like this out there?

• Unescpaing huge single-line string on Linux

  I ended up with a huge, single line string literal (don't ask me how) where everything is escaped (mostly), including new lines and double quotes. Problem is, I want the original string. The string is huge so I'm not even sure how to begin. Here's what I have: "This\n is \"nice\",\nain\'t it?" This is what I want: This is "nice", ain't it? Again, the problem is that other shell sensitive stuff is not escaped (like $, or !), and that the string is couple of megabytes.

  Suppose I decide to call acknowledgment() on a JMS message several times. Say the first call fails (for non-permanent reason). Does the success of the second (or any subsequent) call guarantee that the message is now acknowledged? Is the exact behavior of acknowledgement() specified anywhere?
