  • Dead Linux server - need help and options

    - by Choi S.
All, I have a Dell PE 1950 w/ 2 SATA drives in a software RAID1. OS is CentOS 5.5 (2.6.18.x). Starting this afternoon we received HW errors (something on the bus is bad, E171F) and the machine became unresponsive. We hard booted and it came back up for about 5 hours but then it happened again. I'm trying to figure out our options. Unfortunately we do not have similar hardware but I have a small desktop that I can use. I was contemplating putting one of the drives into the desktop and then starting it up. My goal was to then P2V it using Vmware converter but apparently the free v5.x doesn't support hot cloning/converting on a RAID volume, only the Enterprise 4.x version of Converter does. My questions are: 1.) Is putting a single drive out of a RAID1 pair into another piece of HW is safe? Based on my research and understanding it appears to be but would like confirmation. 2.) Is there any work around to the Vmware Converter not supporting RAID volumes during a hot clone/convert session? 3.) Are there other options I'm overlooking? Thanks in advance for reading and responding. --Choi S.

  • Server side version of 'receipients address' rule in Outlook

    - by lethalMango
I currently have a variety of folders on Outlook 2010 which connects to my works Exchange server. I have all the emails received from clients added to the correct folder, what I want to do is make any emails in the recipient address (i.e. I've been cc'ed in to an email sent from another user) to be also moved. Is it possible to achieve this server side opposed to using the "with @domain.com in the recipients address" rule which is client side only?

  • How do I exclude an Outlook folder form Windows Search Index in Windows 7?

    - by Pokot0
I have a pretty big (~30GB) email archive (Outlook + Exchange: .ost file) and I would like to use the Outlook Search Feature (Windows Search technology). I would like to exclude some folders from the indexing (at least the "spam" folder!) but it seems there is no option for that in the standard configurations. Is there any other way (registries, etc) that can I accomplish this? I am using Windows 7 and Outlook 2007. Thanks!

  • Use /etc/aliases to send to a mailing-list using sendmail

    - by Pixoo
I'm trying to configure my Debian (6.0) server to forward emails sent to root to a mailing-list. I set the ML address in /etc/aliases this way: root: [email protected] I then called newaliases. It doesn't work but when I call mail from the command line it works :/ echo "test" | mail -s"test message" [email protected] If I set my own email address in /etc/aliases it's working too. Any idea where it could come from ? Thanks

  • Does a VPN certificate request need to be encrypted

    - by Kernel Panic
We have a Cisco 3000 VPN concentrator and use the Cisco VPN client to generate certificate requests, which we then create/authenticate on our certificate server. When the help desk generates the request, they sometimes email that to me, then I generate the certificate on the server. Does the request need to be encrypted? Until the certificate gets generated is there something in the request itself that would need to remain secret? Thank you.

  • How to configure sendmail to relay through a specific server

    - by ErebusBat
I have a tiny home server setup behind my cable modem (bresnan communications). I want to be able for this box to send out email (not receive) for notifications and whatnot. What I have already done: I have installed and configured sendmail. I have added mail.bresnan.net as my SMART_HOST directive. What I belive the problem is When I attempt to send an email I get the following in my mail log: Dec 22 10:24:17 batcave sendmail[1530]: oBMHOHrs001530: from=aburns, size=140, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<[email protected]>, relay=aburns@localhost Dec 22 10:24:17 batcave sm-mta[1531]: oBMHOHWZ001531: from=<[email protected]>, size=397, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<[email protected]>, proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA-v4, relay=localhost [127.0.0.1] Dec 22 10:24:17 batcave sendmail[1530]: oBMHOHrs001530: to=<[email protected]>, ctladdr=aburns (1000/1000), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30140, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (oBMHOHWZ001531 Message accepted for delivery) Dec 22 10:24:18 batcave sm-mta[1517]: oBMH9mVv001357: to=<[email protected]>, ctladdr=<[email protected]> (1000/1000), delay=00:14:30, xdelay=00:00:42, mailer=relay, pri=300339, relay=pmx0.bresnan.net. [69.145.248.1], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection timed out with pmx0.bresnan.net. You can see where the message is accepted for delivery by my sendmail server, then where it attempts to hand off to bresnan's server and it timesout. This is where my question is. Asstute readers will notice that pmx0.bresnan.net is not what I have my SMART_HOST directive set as. This is the (outside?) MX server for the bresnan.com/net domain. Apparently bresnan has their network configured so that you can not access this server from within their own network and instead must use the mail.bresnan.net server (which I can connect to). The problem is that I don't know how to tell sendmail to use this server and not the domain. What I have tried Setting a hosts entry so that the pmx0 server points to the mail IP address. This doesn't work, which makes sense as sendmail is obviously doing an MX query to find the server which returns the IP so there is never a need to do a 'normal' DNS resolve so the hosts file never gets involved.

  • emails not working after domain has been forwarded to new hosting?

    - by jan
What's the best course of action after the forwarding of domain has been done and apparently the email has been forgotten to be taken into account? I just forwarded the domain to a new server hosting and i forgot to take into account the emails from the old provider? A few concerns arise: the emails won't be lost, right? will pointing the MX records to the old mail server IP address fix this issue right away? Thanks!

  • Is there a way to programatically set the printer properties in windows ?

    - by panzerschreck
Hello, As a paper saving drive throughout the organization, we plan to set 2 page printing as default setting on all the windows machines. I would like to contribute to this by writing a small script that can do that for all the machines, maybe send an email to all the users, and let them run the batch file. Is that possible, can you please guide me. I have no knowledge about windows scripting, I program in java for my living. Thanks for your time.

  • Postfix server to receive emails for anyonymous user

    - by sachitad
I have a postfix server configured with imap. Only the recipient with the user account in the system is accepted. For example: rcpt to: test@localhost will yield the following error: 550 5.1.1 <test@localhost>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table What I want to achieve is setup virtual maps which accepts email to all the users (even if the user doesn't accept in the system) then forward all those emails to a specific user mailbox. Is something like this, possible?

  • What should I do about this user?

    - by Tim Brigham
What should I do about this user? The user is: Downloading pornography Attempting unauthorized access Running hacking software Sending unsolicited email Installing software / tampering with the system etc This is intended as a generic answer for employee behavioral problems, a la Can you help me with my software licensing question? I could see where acceptable use issues are a touch out of scope for SF, however it is one of those things most sysadmins will run into. I don't want to keep rewriting similar answers.

  • Cloning to a smaller hard drive with DDRescue

    - by krebshack
I am currently working with a 700 GB Seagate hard drive that's beginning to fail. I'll call this "SDB" from now on. I'd like to clone it while I'm still able to. However, the only hard drive that I have available is a 500 GB WD hard drive. I'll call this "SDC" from now on. The partition scheme on SDB is as follows: 9.77 GB is allocated to a recovery partition and the remaining 688.87 GB is allocated to a Windows partition. Both are formatted using NTFS. There is no partition scheme on SDC. I know how to clone one hard drive to another using DDRescue but I've only done it using hard drives that are the same size. For your reference, I'll normally use the command "ddrescue -v -r 3 /dev/sdb /dev/sdc example.log". I'd like to know if it's possible to do this with DDRescue. I've read the manual from GNU (http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/manual/ddrescue_manual.html) and I haven't seen anything indicating that it is possible. I'm just looking for some confirmation that this is a correct impression. If it's not possible, then it would be helpful if any of y'all would be able to make some work around suggestions. But please don't feel obligated to do that. I don't want to have my one thread bogged down with two many questions.

  • Postfix configuration (relay access)

    - by jome
I have just installed POSTFIX on a Debian box, I pointed the relay host config setting to an exchange server which will deliver the mail to external users. So what I am trying to do is telnet to the debian box and send an email to [email protected] which will then be past to the exchange server for delivery. The problem is I get the following: rcpt to:[email protected] 554 relay access denied I have seen a section in the config "mydestination" but i want the exchange server to decide which domains it will deliver for and not the POSTFIX server.

    - by Edoode
I'm using Gmail (for domains) When viewing the inbox, converations are sorted by their 'last activity', usualy an email. However, when I view all conversations of a single label, by clicking the label in the box left on the screen, mails are ordered by first activity. Can anyone confirm this, and does anyone know how I can change this behaviour?

  • Recover license for Photoshop CS3

    - by Buddy
At the company I work at, an employee was let go. His laptop was a company laptop with Photoshop CS3 installed on it. Photoshop was deactivated so it could be installed on another computer. The license was bought online and emailed to someone, however, that computer crashed and the email with the license is lost. Is there a way to recover the license from the laptop? Are we better off contacting Adobe's customer support?
