  • "setpci: command not found" in CentOS

    - by spoon16
I'm trying to configure my Mac Mini running CentOS 5.5 to start automatically when power is restored after a power loss. I understand the following command has to be executed: setpci -s 0:1f.0 0xa4.b=0 When I run that command on my machine though I get bash: setpci: command not found. Is there a package I need to install via yum or something? I'm not seeing a clear answer via Google and I looked at the man page for setpci and it doesn't mention anything. Also, does this command need to be run every time the machine starts or just once?

  • How do I install newer python on CentOS with minimal effort?

    - by Sorin Sbarnea
I would like to install Python 2.6 and mod_python on CentOS 5 (x64). The system is delivered with old python 2.4 and I want the new one with minimal maintenance effort (compiling and having a different installation seams to be suboptimal solution). Is there a solution for this, other than starting to recompile lots of packages? If not should I switch to Ubuntu? Please remember that I'm talking about x64 - I found a repository on net with updated packages but it is not x64.

  • linux nooB: Installing ffmpeg + dependencies on aws linux ami (repo issues)

    - by HdN8
Im installing ffmpeg to run on an amazon linux ami, and have added the rpmforge repo and the dag repo. Here are some guidelines I'm using for reference: TWoZaO and Razuna The rpmforge repo has ffmpeg, but if you try to install it then it will complain that is missing dependencies (for me libSDL-1.2.so.0()(64bit)). Regardless I will install ffmpeg from svn so I can be sure to enable the options I want (namely libx264). It seems strange to me though that SDL is not in rpmforge or dag, and in according to both of my references above, it should be there. I tried to grab it manually from here, but it needs these dependencies, so no-go: error: Failed dependencies: SDL = 1.2.10-8.el5 is needed by SDL-devel-1.2.10-8.el5.x86_64 alsa-lib-devel is needed by SDL-devel-1.2.10-8.el5.x86_64 libGL-devel is needed by SDL-devel-1.2.10-8.el5.x86_64 libGLU-devel is needed by SDL-devel-1.2.10-8.el5.x86_64 libSDL-1.2.so.0()(64bit) is needed by SDL-devel-1.2.10-8.el5.x86_64 libX11-devel is needed by SDL-devel-1.2.10-8.el5.x86_64 libXext-devel is needed by SDL-devel-1.2.10-8.el5.x86_64 libXrandr-devel is needed by SDL-devel-1.2.10-8.el5.x86_64 libXrender-devel is needed by SDL-devel-1.2.10-8.el5.x86_64 libXt-devel is needed by SDL-devel-1.2.10-8.el5.x86_64 Any advice for a linux nooB lost in a mess of repos and dependency errors?

  • Coldfusion autorestart

    - by Comcar
Coldfusion is automatically restarting, a lot. It comes in waves, everything seems fine for a while then the server struggles for a few minutes, restarts a lot then settles down again. I have Fusion Reactor installed, but when CF goes down FR stops logging so it's not really helping. Looking through the archived logs just shows gaps in the logs. These are all the occourances of the phrase "Coldfusion started" today. [[email protected] logs]# grep -i "Coldfusion started" server.log | grep "11/27/12" "Information","main","11/27/12","01:49:35",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","01:50:46",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","01:52:39",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","01:54:08",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","01:55:12",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","01:56:29",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","01:57:36",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","01:58:57",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","01:59:56",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","02:01:38",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","02:03:11",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","02:04:41",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","02:07:53",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","02:10:45",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","02:11:49",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","02:13:09",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","02:14:18",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","02:15:44",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","02:17:06",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","02:34:19",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","03:01:20",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","05:25:59",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","06:30:48",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","06:36:20",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:34:07",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:35:39",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:36:41",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:39:15",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:40:42",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:42:55",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:44:23",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:46:18",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:47:35",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:48:53",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:50:04",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:51:51",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:53:05",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:54:24",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:55:28",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:56:38",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:58:03",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","09:59:03",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","10:04:37",,"ColdFusion started" "Information","main","11/27/12","12:04:02",,"ColdFusion started" I've been looking at the live server metrics in FR on a second screen all day, the CPU, Memory and requests all seemed fine about 12 midday, then the server rebooted. Looking at the logs for the hour between 9am and 10am (more than 15 restarts in the hour), the CPU never went over 44% usage and the Memory never exceeded 53% usage - in the recorded stats at least. There is no JDBC tracking at the moment, so I'll add that to tracking and see if it's MySQL causing a problem, but can anyone help me narrow down the problem, what would cause Cold Fusion to auto restart, and I'm assuming the auto restart is only happening because Fusion Reactor is installed. It's a Red Hat 5 LAMP stack running Coldfusion 9 and Fusion Reactor 4.5.2

  • repeated failing passwords in linux security log (/var/log/secure)

    - by wallyk
Recently, I opened up the SSH port through my firewalls (and redirecting to my server) so I could check on the (http) server while on the road. The first week or two there was nothing different. But now, three or four weeks later, I see lots of this: Mar 20 08:38:28 localhost sshd[21895]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=mail.queued.net user=root Mar 20 08:38:31 localhost sshd[21895]: Failed password for root from 207.210.101.209 port 2854 ssh2 Mar 20 15:38:31 localhost sshd[21896]: Received disconnect from 207.210.101.209: 11: Bye Bye Mar 20 08:38:32 localhost unix_chkpwd[21900]: password check failed for user (root) Mar 20 08:38:32 localhost sshd[21898]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=mail.queued.net user=root Mar 20 08:38:34 localhost sshd[21898]: Failed password for root from 207.210.101.209 port 3729 ssh2 Mar 20 15:38:35 localhost sshd[21899]: Received disconnect from 207.210.101.209: 11: Bye Bye Mar 20 08:38:36 localhost unix_chkpwd[21903]: password check failed for user (root) Mar 20 08:38:36 localhost sshd[21901]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=mail.queued.net user=root Mar 20 08:38:38 localhost sshd[21901]: Failed password for root from 207.210.101.209 port 4313 ssh2 Mar 20 15:38:38 localhost sshd[21902]: Received disconnect from 207.210.101.209: 11: Bye Bye Mar 20 08:38:40 localhost unix_chkpwd[21906]: password check failed for user (root) Mar 20 08:38:40 localhost sshd[21904]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=mail.queued.net user=root Mar 20 08:38:42 localhost sshd[21904]: Failed password for root from 207.210.101.209 port 4869 ssh2 Mar 20 15:38:43 localhost sshd[21905]: Received disconnect from 207.210.101.209: 11: Bye Bye Mar 20 08:38:44 localhost unix_chkpwd[21909]: password check failed for user (root) Mar 20 08:38:44 localhost sshd[21907]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=mail.queued.net user=root Mar 20 08:38:46 localhost sshd[21907]: Failed password for root from 207.210.101.209 port 2512 ssh2 Mar 20 15:38:47 localhost sshd[21908]: Received disconnect from 207.210.101.209: 11: Bye Bye Mar 20 15:38:57 localhost sshd[21912]: Connection closed by 207.210.101.209 There are about 1100 lines of these for March 20th, zero for the 19th, and 800 or so for the 18th—all related to the same IP. • Kickstart installation: Unable to read package metadata

    - by yacov
I'm trying to install a CentOS OS with kickstart using HTTP as the installation source. The kickstart server and the installed server are both running on VMs on the same machine. after the anaconda system installer starts it fails with the following message: I tried installing two different versions of Centos(5.5 and 5.2), and they both pass a CDROM media test the manual installation provides. The only errors on the kickstart server side are some errors in the httpd log I consider irrelevant: [Sat Mar 12 23:25:19 2011] [error] [client 192.168.1.112] File does not exist: /tftpboot/linux-install/platforms/CentOS5.5/images/product.img [Sat Mar 12 23:25:19 2011] [error] [client 192.168.1.112] File does not exist: /tftpboot/linux-install/platforms/CentOS5.5/disc1 I tried searching the internet for days and haven't found any solution... Does anyone have any idea?

  • PHP ZendOptimizer on Red Hat Enterprise Linux

    - by Jacob Kristensen
I would like to install FlashMoto and the requirements are not unreasonable: PHP 5.2.1 or higher, Zend Optimizer 3.3 or higher. However my RHEL 5.4 provides me with PHP 5.1.6. So I tried the remi repository http://rpms.famillecollet.com/ but it gave me PHP 5.3.1 and Zend Optimizer from zend.com does not support anything higher than 5.2.x. I also tried the dag repo but it does not have PHP in any version. I also tried some RPMs that Oracle provides on their homepage but they don't provide php-mbstring that I also need. Does anyone know how to get PHP 5.2.1 installed on a RHEL 5.4? Then I can probably fix install the Zend thing. Thanks in advance.

  • How to a2ensite and a2dissite?

    - by John
I'm logged into a Linux server. I think it's a Red Hat distribution. The commands a2ensite and a2dissite are not available. In the /etc/httpd directory, I don't see any mention of sites-enabled or sites-available. I'm pretty sure the site is currently executing the directives of /etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf . I would like to do a a2dissite ssl, then reload the Web Server. How to do achieve this ?

  • What applications can be used in a Red Hat/CentOS cluster?

    - by Sandra
Hi, When I look at the Red Hat cluster manuals 1 2, they only explain how to install it but not what applications can use it. I am new to clusters, so I don't know these things =) Let's say I want to 3 node high performance cluster; What applications would work with it? Also, how does an application talk to the cluster? Does the application need to have been written to support clusters? Sandra

  • How to allow wget to overwrite files

    - by Gnanam
Using wget command, how do I allow/instruct to overwrite my local file everytime, irrespective of how many times I invoke. Let's say, I want to download a file from the location: http://server/folder/file1.html Here, whenever I say wget http://server/folder/file1.html, I want this file1.html to be overwritten in my local system irrespective of the time it is changed, already downloaded, etc. My intention/use case here is that when I call wget, I'm very sure that I want to replace/overwrite the existing file. I've tried out the following options, but each option is intended/meant for some other purpose. -nc = --no-clobber -N = Turn on time-stamping -r = Turn on recursive retrieving

  • Why should I use cobbler over normal PXEBOOT server?

    - by luckytaxi
Maybe it's me but I find it easier to manage my simple pxeboot server just by editing the default file under /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg. I have my kickstart file available over NFS along with the DVD extracted to a centralize mount point. Other than PXEBOOT, what benefit would I get from running cobbler? It was confusing at first but I finally got the hang off it. The only benefit I see is being able to force a server to install an OS on demand. Anything else?

  • Cause of flapping UNKNOWN Nagios status?

    - by jldugger
We run some Nagios service checks via OpsView, and one of our hosts is getting a strange response for SSH: "UNKNOWN: Service results are stale" It happens regularly, but seems to go away as the system retries a 2nd and 3rd time. It started after a patch and reboot of the server in question last week. The system itself responds to SSH from boxes I've tested with (which doesn't include the monitoring system I am not given access to). /var/log/secure is full of lines ala: sshd[15628]: Did not receive identification string from xxx.xxx.226.20 Time stamps are reliably every five minutes, which is pretty obviously the monitoring script disconnecting once it gets a login prompt. Anyone know what might be causing this, or how to fix it? It's really frustrating to see this pop on and off the status page.

  • Installing OpenSSL that supports SNI along with previous version of OpenSSL

    - by gh0sT
So I learned that to host multiple HTTPS websites on the same IP address you need an OpenSSL version that supports SNI (0.9.8f and higher). My RHEL5 box currently has 0.9.8e and Apache version httpd-2.2.26-2.el5. According to a same question here it's not a good idea to replace the original version of OpenSSL and instead to have a parallel installation. It however doesn't explicitly mention how to achieve this. So my questions are: How do I have an alternate installation of OpenSSL without breaking the system? How do I make Apache to use this version of OpenSSL and not the original one? A detailed guide would be extremely helpful.

  • Unzip individual files from multiple zip files and extract those individual files to home directory

    - by James P.
I would like to unzip individual files. These files have a .txt extension. These files also live within multiple zipped files. Here is the command I'm trying to use. unzip -jn /path/to/zipped/files/zipArchiveFile2011\*.zip /path/to/specific/individual/files/myfiles2011*.txt -d /path/to/home/directory/for/extract/ From my understanding, the -j option excludes directories and will extract only the txt files The -n option will not overwrite a file if it has already been extracted. I've also learned that the forward slash in /path/to/zipped/files/zipArchiveFile2011\*.zip is necessary to escape the wildcard (*) character. Here is sample of error messages I'm coming accross: Archive: /path/to/zipped/files/zipArchiveFile20110808.zip caution: filename not matched: /path/to/specific/individual/files/myfiles20110807.txt caution: filename not matched: /path/to/specific/individual/files/myfiles20110808.txt Archive: /path/to/zipped/files/zipArchiveFile20110809.zip caution: filename not matched: /path/to/specific/individual/files/myfiles20110810.txt caution: filename not matched: /path/to/specific/individual/files/myfiles20110809.txt I feel that I'm missing something very simple. I've tried using single quotes (') and double quotes (") around directory paths. But no luck.

I have a production web server that makes sites to be very slow when load for first time. After the first time all connections are normal and fast. In the following screen you can see the first test I have run for a random site in my server: and here you can see the result of the second time request: As you can see there is a big change in the second load of the same page. Here is the page load time graph: My problem is that I don't really know anything about Red Had Linux server, and also I don't know where can I start. Can somebody to help me ? I like to find out the solution for the long time "wait" in connection. I know that my question is very minimal, but you can always ask me to give you information about the server.

  • How do I install the pdo_mysql driver on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1?

    - by Will Martin
I have a RHEL box running PHP 5.3.3, which was installed using the binary packages provided by yum. I have installed the php-pdo package: # yum info php-pdo Loaded plugins: product-id, rhnplugin, subscription-manager Updating Red Hat repositories. Installed Packages Name : php-pdo Arch : x86_64 Version : 5.3.3 Release : 3.el6_1.3 Size : 168 k Repo : installed From repo : rhel-x86_64-server-6 Summary : A database access abstraction module for PHP applications URL : http://www.php.net/ License : PHP Description : The php-pdo package contains a dynamic shared object that will add : a database access abstraction layer to PHP. This module provides : a common interface for accessing MySQL, PostgreSQL or other : databases. It appears to be working correctly for SQLite databases, but not MySQL. There's no file including pdo_mysql.so in /etc/php.d, and there is no copy of pdo_mysql.so in /usr/lib64/php/modules. I'm pretty sure I just need the driver file and a line in the PHP configuration. A yum search pdo mysql didn't turn up any useful packages, and Google has failed me. If I were on Ubuntu or Debian, I'd apt-get install php5-mysql and be done with it. So ... where in Red Hat land do I get a copy of pdo_mysql.so, and install it properly?

  • What does the -P option do to mount?

    - by Simon
I'm migrating from an archaic version of Red Hat to Ubuntu 9. When going through my old nfs mount script, I found that it contained the -P option. So my script looks like: sudo mount -t nfs -o -P ... It looks like the -P is one of the -o options. My question is: what does the -P option do? I've searched every man page I can find, with no luck. Could it have to do with privileged ports?

  • Dedicated GPU in Dell PowerEdge C1100

    - by Eli Gundry
We recently purchased a Dell PowerEdge C1100 off lease with the initention of using it for graphics processing. We installed an AMD HD 7000 series GPU in it that runs off of board power and it sends video to the display. That said, the video is very choppy, leading us to belive that the onboard video is doing all the processing and sending it to the card. Is there any way to either disable the VGA on this server or tell the OS to only use the dedicated card. More info: The server is running REHL 6.4 The graphics running the proprietary AMD drivers The video card only works in OS and does not show the BIOS on boot (we know that it's impossible to change this) Any ideas, guys? Update We are now thinking that the GPU is doing the graphics processing, but not working at the full speed of the PCI bus. Which is odd, because it is an x16 slot, but probably optimized to use a RAID card (if that makes any sense). Is there any way to remedy the choppy graphics on this server?
