  • Performance: Subquerry or Joining

    - by Auro
HelloHello I got a little Question about Performance of a Subquerry /Joining another table INSERT INTO Original.Person ( PID, Name, Surname, SID ) ( SELECT ma.PID_new , TBL.Name , ma.Surname, TBL.SID FROM Copy.Person TBL , original.MATabelle MA WHERE TBL.PID = p_PID_old AND TBL.PID = MA.PID_old ); This is my SQL, now this thing runs around 1 million times or more. Now my question is what would be faster? if I change TBL.SID to (Select new from helptable where old = tbl.sid) or if I add helptable to the from and do the joining in the where? greets Auro

  • Insert methode of TableAdapter not working?

    - by Stijn Leenknegt
I'm using ADO.NET in my C# project. In my form I added a SourceBinding element from my toolbox in VS2010. I set the connection to the table of my dataset. It creates a DataAdapter automaticly for my. I want to insert a record, so I call the Insert() method of the DataAdapter. But when I view my database data, it doesn't have any new records... orderID = this.orderTableAdapter.Insert("", "", (int)OrderStatus.IN_CONSTRUCTION, DateTime. Now); Or do I need to insert it manually with the SqlCommand???

I'm trying to create an index on a view and it keeps failing, I'm pretty sure its b/c I'm using an alias for the column. Not sure how or if I can do it this way. Below is a simplified scenario. CREATE VIEW v_contracts WITH SCHEMABINDING AS SELECT t1.contractid as 'Contract.ContractID' t2.name as 'Customer.Name' FROM contract t1 JOIN customer t2 ON t1.contractid = t2.contractid GO CREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX v_contracts_idx ON v_contracts(t1.contractid) GO --------------------------- Incorrect syntax near '.'. CREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX v_contracts_idx ON v_contracts(contractid) GO --------------------------- Column name 'contractid' does not exist in the target table or view. CREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX v_contracts_idx ON v_contracts(Contract.ContractID) GO --------------------------- Incorrect syntax near '.'. Anyone know how to create an indexed view using aliased columns please let me know.

  • Accessing two sides of a user-user relationship in rails

    - by Lowgain
Basically, I have a users model in my rails app, and a fanship model, to facilitate the ability for users to become 'fans' of each other. In my user model, I have: has_many :fanships has_many :fanofs, :through => :fanships In my fanship model, I have: belongs_to :user belongs_to :fanof, :class_name => "User", :foreign_key => "fanof_id" My fanship table basically consists of :id, :user_id and :fanof_id. This all works fine, and I can see what users a specific user is a fan of like: <% @user.fanofs.each do |fan| %> #things <% end %> My question is, how can I get a list of the users that are a fan of this specific user? I'd like it if I could just have something like @user.fans, but if that isn't possible what is the most efficient way of going about this? Thanks!

  • What is the best way to sync multiple client SqlServers to one MS SqlServer 2005?

    - by user605055
I have several client databases that use my windows application. I want to send this data for online web site. The client databases and server database structure is different because we need to add client ID column to some tables in server data base. I use this way to sync databases; use another application and use C# bulk copy with transaction to sync databases. My server database sql server is too busy and parallel task cannot be run. I work on this solution: I use triggers after update, delete, insert to save changes in one table and create sql query to send a web service to sync data. But I must send all data first! Huge data set (bigger than 16mg) I think can't use replication because the structure and primary keys are different.

  • do people value information or aesthetic value of websites ? [closed]

    - by fwfwfw
I'm thinking, why does the web have to be so colorful. meaning, all the information is buried deep beneath layers of flash, javascripts, html and images. Sure, a good positioning of these media files, create an aesthetic value but how important is it to the user ? moreover, aren't people looking for information after all ? why can't the internet be a uniform looking data warehouse ? now we've gotta digg through all the aesthetic junk, using shady web scraping techniques, unless RSS or API is provided. why can't we settle for just a dull grey button and framesets for navigation ? why can't all sites have navigation frame on the left and top ? why can't all sites put their damn data always in normalized table tag ?

  • How do I get this php statement that gets all the values from database and outputs as checkboxes to

    - by ggfan
    I am a bit lost in all these "" and '' and . in this statement. Basically this query is to get all the tagname from table "tag" and display them for the users as checkboxes. If they have clicked 'submit' and they missed another field(say the title of a post), it would still have the tag they chose displayed. The part I need help with is the echoing part. It doesn't seem to remember the tag when they click submit. $query4 = "SELECT * FROM tags ORDER BY tagname"; $data4 = mysqli_query($dbc, $query4); while ($row4 = mysqli_fetch_array($data4)) { echo "<li><input type='checkbox' name='postingtag[]'"; if (!empty($postingtag)){ echo "value='$postingtag'"; } else{ echo "value='{$row4['tagID']}'"; } echo ">{$row4['tagname']}</li>"; }

  • Trying to use json to populate areas of my website using mysql, php, and jquery.

    - by RyanPitts
Ok, so this is my first attempt at doing anything with JSON. I have done a lot with PHP and MySql as well as jQuery and JavaScript...but nothing with JSON. I have some data in a MySql database. In the codes below i am using a PHP file to retrieve the data from the MySql database and using json_encode to format it to JSON. This file is being called by the JavaScript that runs when the page loads (well, it runs on document.ready actually). I then use jQuery to access the JSON keys and values to fill in areas of the page "dynamically". Here is the code snippets i am using (excuse my "noobness" on writing these snippets, still learning all this). This is my script that is on my HTML page test.php: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $.getJSON("json_events.php",function(data){ $.each(data.events, function(i,events){ var tblRow = "<tr>" +"<td>" + events.id + "</td>" +"<td>" + events.customerId + "</td>" +"<td>" + events.filingName + "</td>" +"<td>" + events.title + "</td>" +"<td>" + events.details + "</td>" +"<td>" + events.dateEvent + "</td>" +"<td><a href='assets/customers/testchurch/events/" + events.image + "'>" + events.image + "</a></td>" +"<td>" + events.dateStart + "</td>" +"<td>" + events.dateEnd + "</td>" +"</tr>" $(tblRow).appendTo("#eventsdata tbody"); }); }); $.getJSON("json_events.php",function(data){ $.each(data.events, function(i,events){ $("#title").html("First event title: " + events.title + " ..."); }); }); }); </script> This is the code for the php file being called by the above JS: json_events.php <?php require_once('includes/configread.php'); $arrayEvents = array(); $resultsEvents = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM events"); while($objectEvents = mysql_fetch_object($resultsEvents)) { $arrayEvents[] = $objectEvents; } $json_object_events = json_encode($arrayEvents); $json_events = "{\"events\": " . $json_object_events . " }"; echo $json_events; require_once('includes/closeconnread.php'); ?> This is my JSON that is held in the variable $json_events from my php file json_events.php: { "events": [ { "id": "2", "customerId": "1004", "filingName": "testchurch", "title": "Kenya 2011 Training Meeting", "details": "This meeting will be taking place on Sunday, February 10th @ 6pm. Get ready for our annual Kenya trip in 2011. We have been blessed to be able to take this trip for the past 3 years. Now, it's your turn to bless others! Come to this training meeting to learn how to minister to the people in Kenya and also learn what we'll be doing there.", "dateEvent": "2011-02-10", "image": "kenya2011.jpg", "dateStart": "2010-09-04", "dateEnd": "2011-02-10" }, { "id": "6", "customerId": "1004", "filingName": "testchurch", "title": "New Series: The Journey", "details": "We will be starting our new series titled "The Journey". Come worship with us as we walk with Paul on his 2nd missionary journey.", "dateEvent": "2011-01-02", "image": "", "dateStart": "2010-09-06", "dateEnd": "2011-01-02" } ] } This is my HTML on test.php: <table id="eventsdata" border="1"> <thead> <tr> <th>id</th> <th>customerId</th> <th>filingName</th> <th>title</th> <th>details</th> <th>dateEvent</th> <th>image</th> <th>dateStart</th> <th>dateEnd</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody></tbody> </table> <div id="title"></div> I have two questions really... Question 1: Does this code look like it is written correctly at first glance? Question 2: I want to be able to select only the title from the first event in the JSON array. The code i am using now is selecting the second events' title by default it seems. How can i accomplish this?

  • for TimeWithZone object, how to change the zone part only?

    - by leomayleomay
I have a table Coupon with a field expired_at, which is of datetime type, and before I save the record, I want to change the zone part of the field according to the user's choice. Say, c = Coupon.new c.expired_at = DateTime.now c.expired_at_timezone = "Arizona" c.save! and in the coupon.rb class Coupon << ActiveRecord::Base def before_save # change the zone part here, leave the date and time part alone end end What I'm saying is if the admin want the coupon expired at 2014-07-01 10:00 am, Arizona time, the expired_at stored in the db should be like this: Tue, 01 Jul 2014 10:00:00 MST -07:00 is there any way I can modify the zone part only and leave the date and time part alone? Thanks

  • Identifying when there is more than 1 in a group based on grouped field

    - by Brian Cascone
Sorry for the bad description it is tough to explain in one sentence. I have a dataset that has Cause field (RootCause) and an ID field (GroupID). Both can be many things but I need to identify where a GroupID has a multiple different rootcauses. for example: RootCause GrpId AAA 111 BBB 222 CCC 111 I am looking to be able to identify that GrpId 111 has two different RootCauses. This is what I have so far: Select [RootCause], GrpId, Count(GrpID) as CntGrpId From DB.dbo.Table Where DatatypeField <> '' Group BY [RootCause],GrpId This results set visualy gives me enough information to identify what I am looking for, but i need something better. I am looking to return only the ones that have multiples. Any ideas? Thanks

  • directory monitoring

Hi, What is the best way for me to check for new files added to a directory, I dont think the filesystemwatcher would be suitable as this is not an always on service but a method that runs when my program starts up. there are over 20,000 files in the folder structure I am monitoring, at present I am checking each file individually to see if the filepath is in my database table, however this is taking around ten minutes and I would like to speed it up is possible, I can store the date the folder was last checked - is it easy to get all files with createddate last checked date. anyone got any Ideas? • Storing Values in colunms alphabetic?

    - by Mdillion
Is there any benefit to storing content alphabetic in columns? Maybe make lookups faster? If yes then when i add new lookup values to my tables do i need to rebuild the PK for the looup values to fit in the new text? Say a table like this: City_tbl city_id: example: 1120 City_name: example: New York. If I need to add Chicago to it, do i add it at the bottom of the list with the next ID which may be 2000 or do i inset it after the city in alphabetic order which would mean I need to update the PK Id of all following IDs by 1. Only benefit I know about is when I have to manually add lookup values without quering the database I can quickly check the lookup value list for exiting items with ease. But not sure if it may make lookups faster or something if the system knows the text is in aplhabetic order.

  • Find node level in a tree

    - by Álvaro G. Vicario
I have a tree (nested categories) stored as follows: CREATE TABLE `category` ( `category_id` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `category_name` varchar(100) NOT NULL, `parent_id` int(10) unsigned DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`category_id`), UNIQUE KEY `category_name_UNIQUE` (`category_name`,`parent_id`), KEY `fk_category_category1` (`parent_id`,`category_id`), CONSTRAINT `fk_category_category1` FOREIGN KEY (`parent_id`) REFERENCES `category` (`category_id`) ON DELETE SET NULL ON UPDATE CASCADE ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_spanish_ci I need to feed my client-side language (PHP) with node information (child+parent) so it can build the tree in memory. I can tweak my PHP code but I think the operation would be way simpler if I could just retrieve the rows in such an order that all parents come before their children. I could do that if I knew the level for each node: SELECT category_id, category_name, parent_id FROM category ORDER BY level -- No `level` column so far :( Can you think of a way (view, stored routine or whatever...) to calculate the node level? I guess it's okay if it's not real-time and I need to recalculate it on node modification.

  • Can I Select and Update at the same time?

    - by Ed Manet
This is an over-simplified explanation of what I'm working on. I have a table with status column. Multiple instances of the application will pull the contents of the first row with a status of NEW, update the status to WORKING and then go to work on the contents. It's easy enough to do this with two database calls; first the SELECT then the UPDATE. But I want to do it all in one call so that another instance of the application doesn't pull the same row. Sort of like a SELECT_AND_UPDATE thing. Is a stored procedure the best way to go?

  • How to easily get the unmatched condition in mysql

    - by leivli
I have a "server" table which has a column named 'SN' in mysql, when do query to retrive servers with some sns from 'sn1' to 'sn10000', we can: select * from server where sn in ('sn1','sn2','sn3',...'sn10000'); If there is only one sn in 'sn1'-'sn10000' which not exists in database, then the query above will retrive 9999 rows of result. The question is how can I easily get which one in 'sn1'-'sn10000' is not exists in database except the additional work, such as handling the result with shell script etc. I have an ugly sql like below can use: select * from (select 'sn1' as sn union select 'sn2' union select 'sn3' .... union select 'sn10000') as SN where not exists (select id from server where server.sn=SN.sn); Is Anyone has other better methods? Thanks.

Hello, I have a mysql table. It has auto increment on the id. but I regularly delete rows so the numbers are all over the place. I need to get the last n rows out, but because of deletions, the common way of using the max of the autoincremented id column doesn't work well... 1 - Is their another way to get the bottom 50? 2 - Is their a way to get rows by actual row number? so if I have 4 rows labelled 1,2,3,4 delete row 2 then it will become 1,2,3 rather than 1,3,4?

  • Trying to get unique records with MySQL

    - by Joshmattvander
I have a query that is looking at a 'page_views' table. And I so far have the ability to get the total views by day. However, I am having an issue with getting unique views by day. The column I am testing against is user_id... Here's the query I have for total views. SELECT site_id, CONCAT(month(created_at) , '-', day(created_at), '-' , year(created_at)) as created_at_date, COUNT(*) as total_results FROM page_views GROUP BY day(created_at) I can't figure out the logic to just get the unique views, by day based on the user_id column though.

  • How to model a relationship that NHibernate (or Hibernate) doesn’t easily support

    - by MylesRip
I have a situation in which the ideal relationship, I believe, would involve Value Object Inheritance. This is unfortunately not supported in NHibernate so any solution I come up with will be less than perfect. Let’s say that: “Item” entities have a “Location” that can be in one of multiple different formats. These formats are completely different with no overlapping fields. We will deal with each Location in the format that is provided in the data with no attempt to convert from one format to another. Each Item has exactly one Location. “SpecialItem” is a subtype of Item, however, that is unique in that it has exactly two Locations. “Group” entities aggregate Items. “LocationGroup” is as subtype of Group. LocationGroup also has a single Location that can be in any of the formats as described above. Although I’m interested in Items by Group, I’m also interested in being able to find all items with the same Location, regardless of which group they are in. I apologize for the number of stipulations listed above, but I’m afraid that simplifying it any further wouldn’t really reflect the difficulties of the situation. Here is how the above could be diagrammed: Mapping Dilemma Diagram: (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/592ad48b1a.jpg) (I tried placing the diagram inline, but Stack Overflow won't allow that until I have accumulated more points. I understand the reasoning behind it, but it is a bit inconvenient for now.) Hmmm... Apparently I can't have multiple links either. :-( Analyzing the above, I make the following observations: I treat Locations polymorphically, referring to the supertype rather than the subtype. Logically, Locations should be “Value Objects” rather than entities since it is meaningless to differentiate between two Location objects that have all the same values. Thus equality between Locations should be based on field comparisons, not identifiers. Also, value objects should be immutable and shared references should not be allowed. Using NHibernate (or Hibernate) one would typically map value objects using the “component” keyword which would cause the fields of the class to be mapped directly into the database table that represents the containing class. Put another way, there would not be a separate “Locations” table in the database (and Locations would therefore have no identifiers). NHibernate (or Hibernate) do not currently support inheritance for value objects. My choices as I see them are: Ignore the fact that Locations should be value objects and map them as entities. This would take care of the inheritance mapping issues since NHibernate supports entity inheritance. The downside is that I then have to deal with aliasing issues. (Meaning that if multiple objects share a reference to the same Location, then changing values for one object’s Location would cause the location to change for other objects that share the reference the same Location record.) I want to avoid this if possible. Another downside is that entities are typically compared by their IDs. This would mean that two Location objects would be considered not equal even if the values of all their fields are the same. This would be invalid and unacceptable from the business perspective. Flatten Locations into a single class so that there are no longer inheritance relationships for Locations. This would allow Locations to be treated as value objects which could easily be handled by using “component” mapping in NHibernate. The downside in this case would be that the domain model becomes weaker, more fragile and less maintainable. Do some “creative” mapping in the hbm files in order to force Location fields to be mapped into the containing entities’ tables without using the “component” keyword. This approach is described by Colin Jack here. My situation is more complicated than the one he describes due to the fact that SpecialItem has a second Location and the fact that a different entity, LocatedGroup, also has Locations. I could probably get it to work, but the mappings would be non-intuitive and therefore hard to understand and maintain by other developers in the future. Also, I suspect that these tricky mappings would likely not be possible using Fluent NHibernate so I would use the advantages of using that tool, at least in that situation. Surely others out there have run into similar situations. I’m hoping someone who has “been there, done that” can share some wisdom. :-) So here’s the question… Which approach should be preferred in this situation? Why?
