• Install Ubuntu Desktop from Ubuntu Mini?

  I've installed Ubuntu 12.10 from PXE, using the linux & initrd.gz files and I'd like to update it to Ubuntu Desktop (with unity, the shopping len and everything in between). I've heard that I can do it by installing the 'ubuntu-deskop' meta package, however I wonder if anyone has actually done it and if that's enough to get an identical Ubuntu installation as if I had installed it with the LiveDvd.   I'm trying to develop a desktop application which is similar to CCleaner. But I'm having problems with R&D resources... I can't find good books about Windows Operating System Programming Topic Examples; Explaining Windows 7 (or even 8) registry. Which registry entry turn on/off "showing desktop icons" Or, What is Windows registry defrag?, How can you defrag registry?, How can you optimize windows startup for( Windows 7 ) etc. I googled my questions, find msdn-some stackoverflow topics etc. But I can't find a book about low-level explaining current windows 7 operating system... For example, I saw this line in a gadget: options(HISTORY_OPTIONS_NAME) = items_.join("|"); which looks like it's assigning to a function call. • Urgent :The desktop currently has no desktop sources

  Although i know there are large no. of post already floating over same issue , but am having no luck so far. I am getting below error message when trying to connect desktop by vmware view client 4: "the desktop currently has no desktop sources............. " My configuration is listed below: using view manager server over VM box. successully deployed 10 desktop VM over View manager and they are persistent mode. previoulsy few users were able to coonect to these desktops successfully under desktop sources i am getting "Domain name\user ID" and under status its showing "Ready" So when any other user who is authenticated trying to access desktop getting above mentioned error message. The other users are unique one who previously never logged in. Also i tried to rebooth the VM desktops assuming they might be locked by another user , but still am getting the same error message. Please help.

• How to maximise a window within a Windows remote desktop session

  I'm logged in to a Windows 7 machine from a Windows 7 desktop, using the standard Remote Desktop client. Is there a key short cut to maximise a window within the remote desktop session (equivalent to Windows+up arrow)? I want the remote desktop session to NOT be full screen on my client machine, but to easily maximise windows on the remote session to the full size of the remote desktop window. Hope that makes sense. ;)

  On boot at the password prompt - after I enter my password I get some error popup which disappears too fast to see then it reverts back to same password login Greeter screen. Same screen has icons where I can choose : Select desktop environment Cinnamon GNOME Flashback Ubuntu I really want to login to the normal ubuntu 13.10 Unity using above Ubuntu, however I can successfully login using either : Cinnamon or GNOME. • Oneiric desktop looks seriously defect after updates

  Probably a coincidence, but after applying the fix to How to get the proper LightDM theme? and running the latest batch of updates, my desktop suddenly looked like this after rebooting: Funny thing is, it seems to be account specific, as my girlfriend's account seems unaffected. I can't logout because the whole entry is missing on the top right. Rebooting doesn't solve the issue. System settings (when run from the launcher) lacks a whole lot of icons and changeing the theme doesn't solve the problem (only changes the window top bar). I'm going to try the solution in How do I fix my theme? first, but if that doesn't work (likely, since I seem to have a slightly bigger problem than the one in that question) I'd love something else to try (other than creating a new account).

  I love Linux, but am a real novice. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32bit alongside Windows XP. The installation seems to work just fine except for the desktop. The icons & font becomes corrupted to the point that it looks like Chinese. After surfing with Mozilla Firefox for a long time, the same problem begins with the web pages.   Cant access from my Same comp same comp to test if all is ok. Tryd all mentioned posibilities. Tryd my ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx / localhost with / without :5900 added with / without in "Remote desktop" checked "Configure network automatically to accept connection" with / without in router WRT54G enabled port 5900 forwardet to my comp 192.168.1.3 UPNP is enabled. I can connect to one other comp witch isnt using router and checked "Configure network automatically to accept connection" and to one thrue TENDA W311R+ router where ive put port forwarding to 5900 and there works xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5900 Whats wrong? What ive missed?
