  • Class with proprties that haven't been set

    - by koumides
    Hello there, I am creating a class in C# which eventually will be part of a library that other uses can use. A user of this class has to set some properties and then use a public method to retrieve the results. What shall I do when a user calls the method without setting all the properties? Throw exception and expect the user to catch it? Thanks

  • C++ beginner question regarding chars

    - by Samwhoo
    I'm just messing around with some C++ at the moment trying to make a simple tic-tac-toe game and I'm running into a bit of a problem. This is my code: #include <iostream> using namespace std; class Square { public: char getState() const; void setState(char); Square(); ~Square(); private: char * pState; }; class Board { public: Board(); ~Board(); void printBoard() const; Square getSquare(short x, short y) const; private: Square board[3][3]; }; int main() { Board board; board.getSquare(1,2).setState('1'); board.printBoard(); return 0; } Square::Square() { pState = new char; *pState = ' '; } Square::~Square() { delete pState; } char Square::getState() const { return *pState; } void Square::setState(char set) { *pState = set; } Board::~Board() { } Board::Board() { } void Board::printBoard() const { for (int x = 0; x < 3; x++) { cout << "|"; for (int y = 0; y < 3; y++) { cout << board[x][y].getState(); } cout << "|" << endl; } } Square Board::getSquare(short x, short y) const { return board[x][y]; } Forgive me if there are blatantly obvious problems with it or it's stupidly written, this is my first program in C++ :p However, the problem is that when I try and set the square 1,2 to the char '1', it doesn't print out as a 1, it prints out as some strange character I didn't recognise. Can anyone tell me why? :) Thanks in advance.

  • Entity Framework: An object with the same key already exists in the objectstatemanager

    - by NealR
    I see that this question has been asked a lot, however I haven't found anything yet that solves the problem I'm having. Obviously i'm using the Entity Framework to perform an update to a record. Once the updates are complete, however, whenever I try to save I get the following error message: An object with the same key already exists in the objectstatemanager At first I was passing in a collection object from the view that contained a copy of the the ZipCodeTerritory model object zipToUpdate. I changed the code by pulling this object out and just sending in the relevant fields instead. However, I'm still getting the same error. What's also weird is the first time I run this code, it works fine. Any attempt after that I get the error. Controller Here is the code from the method calling the edit function public static string DescriptionOnly(ZipCodeIndex updateZip) { if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(updateZip.newEffectiveDate) || !string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(updateZip.newEndDate)) { return "Neither effective or end date can be present if updating Territory Code only; "; } _updated = 0; foreach (var zipCode in updateZip.displayForPaging.Where(x => x.Update)) { ProcessAllChanges(zipCode, updateZip.newTerritory, updateZip.newStateCode, updateZip.newDescription, updateZip.newChannelCode); } _msg += _updated + " record(s) updated; "; return _msg; } And here is the method that actually does the updating. private static void ProcessAllChanges(ZipCodeTerritory zipToUpdate, string newTerritory, string newStateCode, string newDescription, string newChannelCode) { try { if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(newTerritory)) zipToUpdate.IndDistrnId = newTerritory; if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(newStateCode)) zipToUpdate.StateCode = newStateCode; if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(newDescription)) zipToUpdate.DrmTerrDesc = newDescription; if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(newChannelCode)) zipToUpdate.ChannelCode = newChannelCode; if (zipToUpdate.EndDate == DateTime.MinValue) zipToUpdate.EndDate = DateTime.MaxValue; _db.Entry(zipToUpdate).State = EntityState.Modified; _db.SaveChanges(); _updated++; } catch (DbEntityValidationException dbEx) { _msg += "Error during update; "; EventLog.WriteEntry("Monet", "Error during ProcessAllChanges: " + zipToUpdate.ToString() + " |EX| " + dbEx.Message); } catch (Exception ex) { _msg += "Error during update; "; EventLog.WriteEntry("Monet", "Error during ProcessAllChanges: " + zipToUpdate.ToString() + " |MESSAGE| " + ex.Message); } } EDIT The ZipCodeIndex object contains a list of ZipCodeTerritory model objects. These aren't being pulled from a linq query, but instead simply passed back to the controller from the view. Here is the signature of the controller method that starts the process: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Update(ZipCodeIndex updateZip, string button)

  • iphone app rejection question

    - by adam d.
    My iPhone app was rejected with the following note: "The following non-public APIs are included in your application: Spi Symbols __memset_chk __memmove_chk" These symbols appear in a small number of apparently cocos2d related object files: Grid.o Primitives.o TextureAtlas.o Curiously, this app had already been approved under the previous SDK, but under 3.2 it's being rejected, though that may have nothing to do with it. I'm not at all sure how to resolve this and appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks.

  • C/C++ Struct vs Class

    - by m00st
    After finishing my C++ class it seemed to me the structs/classes are virtually identical except with a few minor differences. I've never programmed in C before; but I do know that it has structs. In C is it possible to inherit other structs and set a modifier of public/private? If you can do this in regular C why in the world do we need C++? What makes classes different from a struct?

  • C++ UTF-8 lightweight & permissive code?

    - by xenthral
    Anyone know of a more permissive license (MIT / public domain) version of this: http://library.gnome.org/devel/glibmm/unstable/classGlib_1_1ustring.html ('drop-in' replacement for std::string thats UTF-8 aware) Lightweight, does everything I need and even more (doubt I'll use the UTF-XX conversions even) I really don't want to be carrying ICU around with me.

  • Jump to the start of next statement

    - by Borek
    Say that I'm writing a test and my caret is here (indicated by "|"): [ExpectedException(typeof(InvalidOperationException|))] In Visual Studio 2010, I'd like to press some shortcut that would take me to the next line so that I could start typing "public void Etc()". Right now, I need to press Right arrow Right arrow Right arrow Enter Which is too many key presses IMO. Is there a VS2010 / ReSharper shortcut to aid this operation?

  • Hibernate (JPA) Entity with Static collection as a member

    - by Kyle Partridge
    Is it possible to have a static collection as a member of a hibernate entity? Say I have an object Question: public class Question { private String category; ... } Would it be possible to populate a static Set<String> that is a distinct set of all categories in the Database? I know I could just query this, but I was wondering if there was a more elegant solution, as it seems like something that other people may have come across.

I type $user-> and press CTRL+Space, I do expect all the methods and variables but there aren't shown any. ideas?

    Hi I have a ActiveX like this: class CMyActiveX : public CComObjectRootEx... ... { HRESULT FinalContruct(){return S_OK;} void Start() { // a new thread is created here for some task } void FinalRelease() { // if the thread is alive kill it } } However when browser is closed the method FinalRelease is not called.
