Will subversion accept usernames such as [email protected]?
We are using svn+ssh with public key authentication as per the official svn guide's ssh tips and tricks section.
Basically, we pass svnserve with the --tunnel-user={username} command, will subversion be OK with that username having @ and . in it?
Thanks.
I've just got a new Laptop. I've installed all applications I need, for now. Are there any best practices or tips on how to keep my windows machine clean and running smoothly? Or do I have to re-install everything every 6 months?
Apache on the server is set to find index.php by default, and that works for a normal folder.
However, I have a .htaccess rule to route all requests through my routing script:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php [QSA,L]
With these .htaccess contents, the server returns a 404 error. Only by specifying /index.php does the routing script get called.
Any tips on what I am doing wrong?
I'd be following the procedure outlined here (unless of course someone has a better way to do it), and I'm wondering if I could just have some help being pointed in the right direction on how to start.
Basically I need help first on HOW to create functions, and general tips on making it adjustable for varying number of columns etc. This may be a very complicated task, as I have no previous experience making SQL functions, so please let me know if this is a difficult task for an SQL noobie working with MS SQL 2005.
When the table of contents is generated, it numbers sections based upon their heading.
section 1
section 2
2.1 section 2.1
2.2 secttion 2.2
section 3
and so on.
I would like these section numbers to appear at the paragraph level also.
1, (section 1 header text)
... section 1 content ...
2, (section 2 header text)
... section 2 content ....
Any tips?
Hi
Performing a discovery at customer site and although systems do get discovered, I get a lot (100000+) of these errors in the log:

Any tips?
Using latest version, just downloaded it.

I have a few applications that are installed using InstallShield -- during the installation one or two parts of the application are installed with msi's. I've tried recording an iss file to instruct the installation process, but these installations always seem to freeze up. I've also tried installing in a sequence, first installing the msi's, but this doesn't prevent the main installation from trying to install these.
Any tips/suggestions/ideas?
Thanks!
Computer cables and external devices are a continuous source of frustration for everybody who likes a clean working environment. The more devices you add to your home office, the more disastrous the situation under the table becomes: cords falling behind the desk, ugly cables running along the sides and under of the desk, making it almost impossible to clean and remove the dust.
This is not my office, but I've seen similar "setups:"
I'm looking for good tips/products which help me in keeping the all cables somehow under control and organized.
Where can I buy a replacement DVD drive for my HP Laptop model dv6700? Is this something I have to buy directly from HP or are there other companies that make and sell them? Any tips for finding the best price are also greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help! I'm going to continue researching these questions right now!
I have found several threads from 2010 and early-2011 talking about excessive resource usage by mod_pagespeed
I haven't seen any recent ones.
I am facing excessive memory usage, which is causing server to crash several times a day.
I am wondering if the issue was ever fixed before mod_pagespeed 1.0 was released.
Also, request any tips and suggestion on how to fix the issue.
My server configuration:
4 quad-core processors (likely oversold)
3GB memory
Xen
Centos 6 64-bit
Apache

I've noticed several articles that have claimed that QEMU is slower than VirtualBox (without hardware assistance) but several are years old, and the newest seemed to be from last year.
Is it true that QEMU is slower than VirtualBox?
If so why?
Are there any tricks to close the performance gap?
Some of my host systems do not have virtualization support so I'm especially interested in performance tips that work without the kernel module.
I want to build a linux machine to use as a test server (LAMP) and use SVN on it.
I am thinking maybe Ubantu as the OS but what hardware specs would I need. I think the entire site is less than a gig but if SVN is going to keep multiple versions than wouldnt I need a huge hard drive?
Any tips would be nice.
Thanks!!
I recently attempted to reconfigure an existing single-instance Postfix server (multi-homed) to support multiple MTA instances, but failed miserably (read: open relay, nastygram from ISP).
It appears that there are several methods that can be used to accomplish this, and the various (and numerous) secondary sources that I found online were 'all over the map' with respect to which they used/glued together.
Can anyone provide a working configuration (or tips) that use postmulti to manage a multi-instance Postfix setup?
I want to connect to my vmware vm from home.
To work network i'm connecting through VPN.
VM sits on one of the workstations (can connect to it through RDC).
Any tips how to do that? What software do i need (got VMWare workstation atm)?
p.s. i'm quite a newbie at this.
Please provide your tips and best practices for virtualizing SQL Server in VMWare ESX
I am interested in advanced configurations and settings.
Please provide reasoning behind your recommendations
Edit:
Just to clarify, I already have over 70 Virtual SQL servers in separate clusters using an ISCSI equallogic San -
What I am really looking for are those advanced configurations like:
How you configured your disks / RDM's
Do you make use of settings like
Mem.ShareScanGHz - http://communities.vmware.com/thread/143828 -
that are not well documented
I'm trying to run a couple of 16-bit legacy DOS programs from a standard windows XP dos prompt. The problem is that the file extensions have been renamed from .COM to .COS and they are stored on read-only media and I can't copy them (special environment).
Any tips on how to invoke such files despite the weird extension? If they had been 32-bit EXEs, it wouldn't have been an issue running them even without their proper extensions, but with these COM files, I'm unable to find a way to run them.
Hi everyone,
I need to download the demo videos at my office so that I can view it later at home since I have slow internet connection there but it seems to be no way to download the videos at [the site][1], and other resources in this site.
Using some of the firefox addons to download them is not possible. Do you have any tips for me? Please share.

Recently we completed a new MSSQL cluster that we are planning on migrating all existing SQL databases to. This includes our Sharepoint databases, while looking into moving the databases I found the Microsoft documentation for moving Sharepoint 2007, however have not been able to find anything similar for Sharepoint 2003. Can anyone point me to a guide for moving the databases, or provide some tips, instructions or warnings? Thanks
I noticed that the eXdupe compression/archiving/deduplication utility was recently mentioned in another post here. It boasts some interesting features, and I've been playing with it for the past day. It's basically a cross-platform, highly multithreaded archival tool.

I'm curious if anyone here uses it in production or has any tips on how to leverage the tool in their environment. I'm looking for suggestions.
I have a Dell M4400 with 32-bit Windows 7 and a solid state disk. Will I run into any problems installing 64-bit Windows 7 on the SSD? Should I reformat the drive? Any other tips?
Have a Ubuntu guest in VirtualBox using NAT. It has an IP of 10.0.2.15. The VM can hit anything in the outside world. However, the host OS (Windows 7) cannot ping the internal VM ('Destination net unreachable').
Any tips on how to resolve this? Thanks!
I have few servers on Linode.com, which does not provide a smooth way for backing up a whole image at the moment. Backing up to S3 could be a way to copy the whole image. It should be also a cheap way. Do you have experience, tips or scripts doing backup of a whole image into S3?
I was recently asked "Do you know when to decide between going for more RAM or more servers?" (in the context of scaling data mining applications).
I had no idea, so what are some ways to decide? I have very little knowledge of architecture and scaling (my understanding of computer memory and what a server does is limited to the high-level basics), so tips on learning more about these things in general are also very welcome.
I just got myself an internal Western Digital caviar black 1TB hard drive. I installed it without too much trouble. The SATA's are plugged correctly and the bios is recognizing it, but it doesn't show up in Windows 7.
Does anyone have any troubleshooting ideas or tips I can step through to try and make Windows see my new drive?
