  • Interesting C projects that upgraded your skill level.

    - by JDQ
I've been (thus far) unable to write a project in C that would be meaningful on any level. For a first project, I've thought of many, but done none. What was the project that changed your skill-level from noob to "coder" the most? Maybe I can take some tips and work on something similar? I was thinking of a toy language, but well, I wouldn't know how to go about that. This might be closed, but oh well :)

  • JQuery $.ajax doesn't return anything, but only in Google Chrome!?

    - by Shawson
Hi All, I'm hoping someone can help me with this as I'm at a loss. I'm trying to simply load a plain text file into a page at runtime using jquery- everything works fine in IE8 (8.0.7600.16385), Firefox 3.6.3, however in Google Chrome 5.0.375.55 the "data" comes back as nothing- i get an empty alert box. This is the code i'm using; <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Animation Test</title> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $.ajax({ url: 'level1.txt', success: function (data) { alert(data); }, async: true, type: 'GET' }); }); </script> </head> <body> <canvas id="canvas" width="640" height="480"> Unsupported Browser </canvas> </body> </html> The file I'm loading in is a plain text file containing this; Central Cavern 100 O.........1.C....C...........1.O O................1.............O O..............................O O..............................O O......................B1..B...O O=============~~~~=~~~~========O O.............................1O O===...........................O O............A..OOO.B..........O O====...<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<...O O............................==O O..............................O O..........B........OOO.....===O O....===============...........O O%............................XO O==============================O (Yes- it's the first level from Manic Miner! I'm making a javascript version using the html5 canvas to get my head around using it.) I'm at a total loss- it can't be the code because it runs in the other 2 browsers- is there an issue with jquery and this version of Chrome? Thanks for reading!! Shaw.

  • Creating views with PHP for couchDB

    - by Industrial
Hi! I have started to try out noSQL databases now and are currently testing out couchDB. Seems like a good solution, but I really get some headache when I follow available examples on how to create views (queries) to select documents from a database and sort them. Everything I can find is regarding Javascript and it would be great to take part of some examples for PHP since that is the language we will use. So, how do I create views using PHP for couchDB?

  • Resources.resx in c# projects

    - by Alexander Braeumer
I have a problem using a Resources.resx - Resources.de.resx - combination in a C#/WPF project. The whole solutions contains several projects and some projects contains resource files. When starting the main project I can switch the language successfully from english to german. But the GUI elements from the sub projects still show the english text. Thank you very much for every idea to solve the problem. Regards, Alex

  • What are the barriers to understanding pointers and what can be done to overcome them?

    - by David McGraw
Why are pointers such a leading factor of confusion for many new, and even old, college level students in the C/C++ language? Are there any tools or thought processes that helped you understand how pointers work at the variable, function, and beyond level? What are some good practice things that can be done to bring somebody to the level of, "Ah-hah, I got it," without getting them bogged down in the overall concept? Basically, drill like scenarios.

  • LDAP to change user password

    - by neobie
As I know, in PHP, we need to connect LDAP over SSL in order to change user password. Is there another way, E.G, other language (JAVA / ASP) to change LDAP password without SSL required? Thanks. Updates: I get "Warning: ldap_mod_replace() [function.ldap-mod-replace]: Modify: Insufficient access" when I try to modify self account password. If i try to change other user password, I get no error message, but the password still stick to the old one.

  • Is there an encoding method that is mutual to flash and php?

    - by Gus
I'm base64 encoding a JPG in AS3 and passing it to PHP where it would be decoded. It appears that AS3's encodeToBase64String() function and and PHP's base64_decode() function do not use the same algorithm. Is there a library or API for either language that would allow it to interface with the other? Alternatively, does anyone even know what PHP's default base64 map is? My Google searching is not yielding results.

  • Fun programming languages

    - by Jason Baker
What are some fun programming languages to learn and work with? I'm asking this for absolutely no practical purpose other than just to learn something new. So, what are some fun languages? I already know Python and C# so those don't count (although Python would probably be the first language I'd recommend). I've spent some time with Ruby, but I don't really see anything that's a whole lot different from Python. (and no, I'm not going to learn Intercal or Brainf*ck before you mention it)

  • Is there a full REPL for Erlang?

    - by Gabriel Cuvillier
Is there a way to have a full interpreter in Erlang, not just a "shell". Since it is a dynamic language, not being able to define named functions in the interpreter is a little bit disappointing... I suspect that it is because compilation units (modules) must be explicitly compiled for their execution by the VM, but maybe a REPL acting as a dynamic/recompilable module exist?

  • Is there an open source immutable dictionary for C#, with fast 'With/Without' methods?

    - by Strilanc
I'm looking for a proper C# immutable dictionary, with fast update methods (that create a partial copy of the dictionary with slight changes). I've implemented one myself, using zippers to update a red-black tree, but it's not particularly fast. By 'immutable dictionary' I don't just mean readonly or const. I want something that has reasonably fast 'With' and 'Without', or equivalent, methods that return a thing with slight modifications without modifying the original. An example from another language is map in Scala

  • PHP Beginner: How to pass PHP variable from one PHP code segment to another ?

    - by Misha Moroshko
I have index.php which uploads a file to server and sets several PHP variables (like $target_folder_and_file_name). index.php also has the following line (it was originally index.html): <script language="JavaScript" src="main.js.php"></script> After index.php returned to the browser, the browsers asks for main.js.php from the server (right?). Can I access somehow $target_folder_and_file_name from the PHP code in main.js.php ?

  • Where do I start with a web bot?

    - by Jon Duvillier
I simply want to create an automatic script that can run (preferably) on a web-server, and simply 'clicks' on an object of a web page. I am new to Python or whatever language this would be used for so I thought I would go here to ask where to start! This may seem like I want the script to scam advertisements or do something illegal, but it's simply to interact with another website. Sorry for asking, I hope you guys can provide me with some ground to start on!
