  • What is approximate cost to develop iPhone/iPad app? Features described

    - by innodeasapps
    Need your help guys... I was working as an iPhone developer since last few months. And just a month ago I left the job, and now i got an offer to develop an iPhone/iPad app. I need to develop an universal app which has frames like PicFrame in which photos must adjust accordingly, with customizable frames, few photo effects like in instagram (Not exactly same but something like it) and then user can share photos on Facebook, tumbler,dropbox, etc. I might need around 30 days time to develop the desired app. Note that designing is not my part, I need to develop and test it thoroughly. I have no idea how much price should I ask to develop such app. As here is the place where we all developers meet, I feel I would get proper guidance. Thank you in advance...

  • WCF Data Service BeginSaveChanges not saving changes in Silverlight app

    - by Enigmativity
    I'm having a hell of a time getting WCF Data Services to work within Silverlight. I'm using the VS2010 RC. I've struggled with the cross domain issue requiring the use of clientaccesspolicy.xml & crossdomain.xml files in the web server root folder, but I just couldn't get this to work. I've resorted to putting both the Silverlight Web App & the WCF Data Service in the same project to get past this issue, but any advice here would be good. But now that I can actually see my data coming from the database and being displayed in a data grid within Silverlight I thought my troubles were over - but no. I can edit the data and the in-memory entity is changing, but when I call BeginSaveChanges (with the appropriate async EndSaveChangescall) I get no errors, but no data updates in the database. Here's my WCF Data Services code: public class MyDataService : DataService<MyEntities> { public static void InitializeService(DataServiceConfiguration config) { config.SetEntitySetAccessRule("*", EntitySetRights.All); config.SetServiceOperationAccessRule("*", ServiceOperationRights.All); config.DataServiceBehavior.MaxProtocolVersion = DataServiceProtocolVersion.V2; } protected override void OnStartProcessingRequest(ProcessRequestArgs args) { base.OnStartProcessingRequest(args); HttpContext context = HttpContext.Current; HttpCachePolicy c = HttpContext.Current.Response.Cache; c.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.ServerAndPrivate); c.SetExpires(HttpContext.Current.Timestamp.AddSeconds(60)); c.VaryByHeaders["Accept"] = true; c.VaryByHeaders["Accept-Charset"] = true; c.VaryByHeaders["Accept-Encoding"] = true; c.VaryByParams["*"] = true; } } I've pinched the OnStartProcessingRequest code from Scott Hanselman's article Creating an OData API for StackOverflow including XML and JSON in 30 minutes. Here's my code from my Silverlight app: private MyEntities _wcfDataServicesEntities; private CollectionViewSource _customersViewSource; private ObservableCollection<Customer> _customers; private void UserControl_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { if (!System.ComponentModel.DesignerProperties.GetIsInDesignMode(this)) { _wcfDataServicesEntities = new MyEntities(new Uri("http://localhost:7156/MyDataService.svc/")); _customersViewSource = this.Resources["customersViewSource"] as CollectionViewSource; DataServiceQuery<Customer> query = _wcfDataServicesEntities.Customer; query.BeginExecute(result => { _customers = new ObservableCollection<Customer>(); Array.ForEach(query.EndExecute(result).ToArray(), _customers.Add); Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(() => { _customersViewSource.Source = _customers; }); }, null); } } private void button1_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { _wcfDataServicesEntities.BeginSaveChanges(r => { var response = _wcfDataServicesEntities.EndSaveChanges(r); string[] results = new[] { response.BatchStatusCode.ToString(), response.IsBatchResponse.ToString() }; _customers[0].FinAssistCompanyName = String.Join("|", results); }, null); } The response string I get back data binds to my grid OK and shows "-1|False". My intent is to get a proof-of-concept working here and then do the appropriate separation of concerns to turn this into a simple line-of-business app. I've spent hours and hours on this. I'm being driven insane. Any ideas how to get this working?

  • WCF app Deployed on Win7 Machine and get connection refused error

    - by Belliez
    I have created a Sync Framework application based on the following sample from microsoft and deployed it to a new Windows 7 machine for testing. The app runs ok but when I attempt to communicate I get the following error: Could not connect to http://localhost:8000/RelationalSyncContract/SqlSyncService/. TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:8000. I am wondering if there is something I am missing. This is my first experience using WCF and followed microsoft sample code. I have disabled the firewall and opened port 8000 for both TCP and UDP. Not sure what to look at next. Below is my App.config file if this helps: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="true"/> <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="32768" /> </system.web> <!-- When deploying the service library project, the content of the config file must be added to the host's app.config file. • Single django instance with subdomains for each app in the django project

    - by jwesonga
    I have a django project (django+apache+mod_wsgi+nginx) with multiple apps, I'd like to map each app as a subdomain: project/ app1 (domain.com) app2 (sub1.domain.com) app3 (sub3.domain.com) I have a single .wsgi script serving the project, which is stored in a folder /apache. Below is my vhost file. I'm using a single vhost file instead of separate ones for each sub-domain: <VirtualHost *:8080> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName www.domain.com ServerAlias domain.com DocumentRoot /home/path/to/app/ Alias /admin_media/ /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/contrib/admin/media <Directory /home/path/to/wsgi/apache/> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> LogLevel warn ErrorLog /home/path/to/logs/apache_error.log CustomLog /home/path/to/logs/apache_access.log combined WSGIDaemonProcess domain.com user=www-data group=www-data threads=25 WSGIProcessGroup domain.com WSGIScriptAlias / /home/path/to/apache/kcdf.wsgi </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:8081> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName sub1.domain.com ServerAlias sub1.domain.com DocumentRoot /home/path/to/app Alias /admin_media/ /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/contrib/admin/media <Directory /home/path/to/wsgi/apache/> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> LogLevel warn ErrorLog /home/path/to/logs/apache_error.log CustomLog /home/path/to/logs/apache_access.log combined WSGIDaemonProcess sub1.domain.com user=www-data group=www-data threads=25 WSGIProcessGroup sub1.domain.com WSGIScriptAlias / /home/path/to/apache/kcdf.wsgi </VirtualHost> My Nginx configuration for the domain.com: server { listen 80; server_name domain.com; access_log off; error_log off; # proxy to Apache 2 and mod_wsgi location / { proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080/; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_max_temp_file_size 0; client_max_body_size 10m; client_body_buffer_size 128k; proxy_connect_timeout 90; proxy_send_timeout 90; proxy_read_timeout 90; proxy_buffer_size 4k; proxy_buffers 4 32k; proxy_busy_buffers_size 64k; proxy_temp_file_write_size 64k; } } Configuration for the sub.domain.com: server { listen 80; server_name sub.domain.com; access_log off; error_log off; # proxy to Apache 2 and mod_wsgi location / { proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8081/; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_max_temp_file_size 0; client_max_body_size 10m; client_body_buffer_size 128k; proxy_connect_timeout 90; proxy_send_timeout 90; proxy_read_timeout 90; proxy_buffer_size 4k; proxy_buffers 4 32k; proxy_busy_buffers_size 64k; proxy_temp_file_write_size 64k; } } This set up doesn't seem to work, everything seems to point to the main domain. I've tried http://effbot.org/zone/django-multihost.htm which kind of worked but seems to have issues with loading my css,images,js files.

  • Android app hanging, sometimes until Force Close / Wait dialog appears

    - by fredley
    I'm making an app that records uncompressed (wav format) audio. I'm using this class to actually record the audio. Currently, my application records fine (I can play the file), however when I click the button to stop the recording, the app hangs for 10 seconds or so, with no log output or any signs of life. Finally it comes round, dumps a load of errors into the log, updates the UI etc. I'm using AsyncTasks to try and avoid this kind of thing but it's not working. Here's my code: //Called on clicks of the record button. rar is the instance of RehearsalAudioRecorder private OnClickListener RecordListener = new OnClickListener(){ @Override public void onClick(View v) { Log.d("Record","Click"); if (recording){ new stopRecordingTask().execute(rar,null,null); startStop.setText("Record"); statusBar.setText("Recording Finished, ready to Encode"); }else{ recording = true; new startRecordingTask().execute(rar,null,null); startStop.setText("Stop"); statusBar.setText("Recording Started"); } } }; private class startRecordingTask extends AsyncTask<RehearsalAudioRecorder,Void,Void>{ @Override protected Void doInBackground(RehearsalAudioRecorder... rs) { RehearsalAudioRecorder r = rs[0]; r.setOutputFile("/sdcard/rarOut.wav"); r.prepare(); r.start(); return null; } } private class stopRecordingTask extends AsyncTask<RehearsalAudioRecorder,Void,Void>{ @Override protected Void doInBackground(RehearsalAudioRecorder... rs) { RehearsalAudioRecorder r = rs[0]; r.stop(); r.reset(); return null; } } In Logcat, I always get output like this, which has me stumped. I have no idea what's causing it (I'm logging the RehearsalAudioRecorder class, and it's being started/stopped correctly by the button clicks. This output occurs after the log output for the button click and correct stop() method call) 12-19 11:59:11.172: ERROR/AudioRecord-JNI(22662): Unable to retrieve AudioRecord object, can't record 12-19 11:59:11.172: ERROR/uk.ac.cam.tfmw2.steg.RehearsalAudioRecorder(22662): Error occured in updateListener, recording is aborted 12-19 11:59:11.172: ERROR/uk.ac.cam.tfmw2.steg.RehearsalAudioRecorder(22662): stop() called on illegal state: STOPPED 12-19 11:59:11.172: ERROR/AudioRecord-JNI(22662): Unable to retrieve AudioRecord object, can't record 12-19 11:59:11.172: ERROR/uk.ac.cam.tfmw2.steg.RehearsalAudioRecorder(22662): Error occured in updateListener, recording is aborted 12-19 11:59:11.172: ERROR/uk.ac.cam.tfmw2.steg.RehearsalAudioRecorder(22662): stop() called on illegal state: ERROR 12-19 11:59:11.172: ERROR/AudioRecord-JNI(22662): Unable to retrieve AudioRecord object, can't record 12-19 11:59:11.172: ERROR/uk.ac.cam.tfmw2.steg.RehearsalAudioRecorder(22662): Error occured in updateListener, recording is aborted 12-19 11:59:11.172: ERROR/uk.ac.cam.tfmw2.steg.RehearsalAudioRecorder(22662): stop() called on illegal state: ERROR ... 10 or more times I've been fiddling with this all day and I'm not getting anywhere, any input would be greatly appreciated. Update I've replace the AsyncTasks with Threads, still doesn't work, the app completely hangs when I click record, despite the fact the Log indicates there's nothing going on in the main thread. Still completely stumped.

  • How do I manipulate Handler Mappings cleanly in IIS7 using the Microsoft.Web.Administration namespac

    - by Kev
    I asked this over on Stack Overflow but maybe it's something an experienced IIS 7 administrator might know more about, so I'm asking here as well. When manipulating Handler Mappings using the Microsoft.Web.Administration namespace, is there a way to remove the <remove name="handler name"> tag added at the site level. For example, I have a site which inherits all the handler mappings from the global handler mappings configuration. In applicationHost.config the <location> tag initially looks like this: <location path="60030 - testsite-60030.com"> <system.webServer> <security> <authentication> <anonymousAuthentication userName="" /> </authentication> </security> </system.webServer> </location> To remove a handler I use code similar this: string siteName = "60030 - testsite-60030.com"; string handlerToRemove = "ASPClassic"; using(ServerManager sm = new ServerManager()) { Configuration siteConfig = serverManager.GetApplicationHostConfiguration(); ConfigurationSection handlersSection = siteConfig.GetSection("system.webServer/handlers", siteName); ConfigurationElementCollection handlersCollection = handlersSection.GetCollection(); ConfigurationElement handlerElement = handlersCollection .Where(h => h["name"].Equals(handlerMapping.Name)).Single(); handlersCollection.Remove(handlerElement); } The equivalent APPCMD instruction would be: appcmd set config "60030 - autotest-60030.com" -section:system.webServer/handlers /-[name='ASPClassic'] /commit:apphost This results in the site's <location> tag looking like: <location path="60030 - testsite-60030.com"> <system.webServer> <security> <authentication> <anonymousAuthentication userName="" /> </authentication> </security> <handlers> <remove name="ASPClassic" /> </handlers> </system.webServer> </location> So far so good. However if I re-add the ASPClassic handler this results in: <location path="60030 - testsite-60030.com"> <system.webServer> <security> <authentication> <anonymousAuthentication userName="" /> </authentication> </security> <handlers> <!-- Why doesn't <remove> get removed instead of tacking on an <add> directive? --> <remove name="ASPClassic" /> <add name="ASPClassic" path="*.asp" verb="GET,HEAD,POST" modules="IsapiModule" scriptProcessor="%windir%\system32\inetsrv\asp.dll" resourceType="File" /> </handlers> </system.webServer> </location> This happens when using both the Microsoft.Web.Administration namespace and C# or using the following APPCMD command: appcmd set config "60030 - autotest-60030.com" -section:system.webServer/handlers /+[name='ASPClassic',path='*.asp',verb=;'GET,HEAD,POST',modules='IsapiModule',scriptProcessor='%windir%\system32\inetsrv\asp.dll',resourceType='File'] /commit:apphost This can result in a lot of cruft over time for each website that's had a handler removed then re-added programmatically. Is there a way to just remove the <remove name="ASPClassic" /> tag using the Microsoft.Web.Administration namespace code or APPCMD?

  • Diagnosing Solaris 8 server memory and swap space usage

    - by datSilencer
    Hello everyone. Essentially, my question is related to memory allocation for Solaris virtual machines. I am running a couple of old Sun ONE 6 Java web servers on two Solaris 8 virtual machines. I see that there's a reasonable amount of swap space being used, but I'm not exactly sure if this could indicate a need to add more RAM to these machines. At service peak hours (mornings usually), the response time of the web application these servers host jumps up to at most 11 seconds (somewhat detrimental for a relatively simple web page loading action). Average response time at non peak times is about 5 seconds. What would you be able to infer about the RAM usage for these machines from the ouput below? Is this information reasonably sufficient? Or would I need to run some other commands to rule out server memory starvation? Finally, since there is a Java application at the core of the setup, I've also thought about: 1) Trace the heap's Object allocation to detect potential memory leaks. 2) Do some performance profiling to see if this instead related to networking delays. I mention this since the application talks with a single Oracle Database, but I would doubt this to be the case since they're pretty close from a network segmentation perspective. I appreciate any kind of insight and feedback you could provide. Thanks for your time and help. • Spring Security beginner's question. Build failed

    - by Nitesh Panchal
    Hello, I downloaded all jar files for Spring Security 3.0 and added them to my lib folder in Netbeans 6.8. Then i added Spring framework to my web application and tried to modify applicationContext.xml as given in the pdf that shipped with Spring Security. This is it's code :- <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans" xmlns:security="http://www.springframework.org/schema/security" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans/spring-beans-3.0.xsd http://www.springframework.org/schema/security http://www.springframework.org/schema/security/spring-security-3.0.xsd"> <http auto-config='true'> <intercept-url pattern="/**" access="ROLE_USER" /> </http> <authentication-manager> <authentication-provider> <user-service> <user name="jimi" password="jimispassword" authorities="ROLE_USER, ROLE_ADMIN" /> <user name="bob" password="bobspassword" authorities="ROLE_USER" /> </user-service> </authentication-provider> </authentication-manager> <!--bean id="propertyConfigurer" class="org.springframework.beans.factory.config.PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer" p:location="/WEB-INF/jdbc.properties" /> <bean id="dataSource" class="org.springframework.jdbc.datasource.DriverManagerDataSource" p:driverClassName="${jdbc.driverClassName}" p:url="${jdbc.url}" p:username="${jdbc.username}" p:password="${jdbc.password}" /--> <!-- ADD PERSISTENCE SUPPORT HERE (jpa, hibernate, etc) --> </beans> This is my web.xml :- <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <web-app version="3.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_3_0.xsd"> <listener> <listener-class>org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener</listener-class> </listener> <servlet> <servlet-name>dispatcher</servlet-name> <servlet-class>org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet</servlet-class> <load-on-startup>2</load-on-startup> </servlet> <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>dispatcher</servlet-name> <url-pattern>*.htm</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> <session-config> <session-timeout> 30 </session-timeout> </session-config> <context-param> <param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name> <param-value>/WEB-INF/applicationContext.xml</param-value> </context-param> <listener> <listener-class> org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener </listener-class> </listener> <listener> <listener-class> org.springframework.web.context.request.RequestContextListener </listener-class> </listener> <filter> <filter-name>springSecurityFilterChain</filter-name> <filter-class>org.springframework.web.filter.DelegatingFilterProxy</filter-class> </filter> <filter-mapping> <filter-name>springSecurityFilterChain</filter-name> <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern> </filter-mapping> <welcome-file-list> <welcome-file>redirect.jsp</welcome-file> </welcome-file-list> </web-app> My web application doesn't compile.   • .Net Custom Configuration Section and Saving Changes within PropertyGrid

    - by Paul
    If I load the My.Settings object (app.config) into a PropertyGrid, I am able to edit the property inside the propertygrid and the change is automatically saved. PropertyGrid1.SelectedObject = My.Settings I want to do the same with a Custom Configuration Section. Following this code example (from here http://www.codeproject.com/KB/vb/SerializePropertyGrid.aspx), he is doing explicit serialization to disk when a "Save" button is pushed. Public Class Form1 'Load AppSettings Dim _appSettings As New AppSettings() Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click _appSettings = AppSettings.Load() ' Actually change the form size Me.Size = _appSettings.WindowSize PropertyGrid1.SelectedObject = _appSettings End Sub Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click _appSettings.Save() End Sub End Class In my code, my custom section Inherits from ConfigurationSection (see below) Question: Is there something built into ConfigurationSection class that does the autosave? If not, what is the best way to handle this, should it be in the PropertyGrid.PropertyValueChagned? (how does the My.Settings handle this internally?) Here is the example Custom Class that I am trying to get to auto-save and how I load into property grid. Dim config As System.Configuration.Configuration = _ ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration( _ ConfigurationUserLevel.None) PropertyGrid2.SelectedObject = config.GetSection("CustomSection") Public NotInheritable Class CustomSection Inherits ConfigurationSection ' The collection (property bag) that contains ' the section properties. Private Shared _Properties As ConfigurationPropertyCollection ' The FileName property. Private Shared _FileName As New ConfigurationProperty("fileName", GetType(String), "def.txt", ConfigurationPropertyOptions.IsRequired) ' The MasUsers property. Private Shared _MaxUsers _ As New ConfigurationProperty("maxUsers", _ GetType(Int32), 1000, _ ConfigurationPropertyOptions.None) ' The MaxIdleTime property. Private Shared _MaxIdleTime _ As New ConfigurationProperty("maxIdleTime", _ GetType(TimeSpan), TimeSpan.FromMinutes(5), _ ConfigurationPropertyOptions.IsRequired) ' CustomSection constructor. Public Sub New() _Properties = New ConfigurationPropertyCollection() _Properties.Add(_FileName) _Properties.Add(_MaxUsers) _Properties.Add(_MaxIdleTime) End Sub 'New ' This is a key customization. ' It returns the initialized property bag. Protected Overrides ReadOnly Property Properties() _ As ConfigurationPropertyCollection Get Return _Properties End Get End Property <StringValidator( _ InvalidCharacters:=" ~!@#$%^&*()[]{}/;'""|\", _ MinLength:=1, MaxLength:=60)> _ <EditorAttribute(GetType(System.Windows.Forms.Design.FileNameEditor), GetType(System.Drawing.Design.UITypeEditor))> _ Public Property FileName() As String Get Return CStr(Me("fileName")) End Get Set(ByVal value As String) Me("fileName") = value End Set End Property <LongValidator(MinValue:=1, _ MaxValue:=1000000, ExcludeRange:=False)> _ Public Property MaxUsers() As Int32 Get Return Fix(Me("maxUsers")) End Get Set(ByVal value As Int32) Me("maxUsers") = value End Set End Property <TimeSpanValidator(MinValueString:="0:0:30", _ MaxValueString:="5:00:0", ExcludeRange:=False)> _ Public Property MaxIdleTime() As TimeSpan Get Return CType(Me("maxIdleTime"), TimeSpan) End Get Set(ByVal value As TimeSpan) Me("maxIdleTime") = value End Set End Property End Class 'CustomSection

  • How to best design a date/geographic proximity query on GAE?

    - by Dane
    Hi all, I'm building a directory for finding athletic tournaments on GAE with web2py and a Flex front end. The user selects a location, a radius, and a maximum date from a set of choices. I have a basic version of this query implemented, but it's inefficient and slow. One way I know I can improve it is by condensing the many individual queries I'm using to assemble the objects into bulk queries. I just learned that was possible. But I'm also thinking about a more extensive redesign that utilizes memcache. The main problem is that I can't query the datastore by location because GAE won't allow multiple numerical comparison statements (<,<=,=,) in one query. I'm already using one for date, and I'd need TWO to check both latitude and longitude, so it's a no go. Currently, my algorithm looks like this: 1.) Query by date and select 2.) Use destination function from geopy's distance module to find the max and min latitude and longitudes for supplied distance 3.) Loop through results and remove all with lat/lng outside max/min 4.) Loop through again and use distance function to check exact distance, because step 2 will include some areas outside the radius. Remove results outside supplied distance (is this 2/3/4 combination inefficent?) 5.) Assemble many-to-many lists and attach to objects (this is where I need to switch to bulk operations) 6.) Return to client Here's my plan for using memcache.. let me know if I'm way out in left field on this as I have no prior experience with memcache or server caching in general. -Keep a list in the cache filled with "geo objects" that represent all my data. These have five properties: latitude, longitude, event_id, event_type (in anticipation of expanding beyond tournaments), and start_date. This list will be sorted by date. -Also keep a dict of pointers in the cache which represent the start and end indices in the cache for all the date ranges my app uses (next week, 2 weeks, month, 3 months, 6 months, year, 2 years). -Have a scheduled task that updates the pointers daily at 12am. -Add new inserts to the cache as well as the datastore; update pointers. Using this design, the algorithm would now look like: 1.) Use pointers to slice off appropriate chunk of list based on supplied date. 2-4.) Same as above algorithm, except with geo objects 5.) Use bulk operation to select full tournaments using remaining geo objects' event_ids 6.) Assemble many-to-manys 7.) Return to client Thoughts on this approach? Many thanks for reading and any advice you can give. -Dane

  • deploy a sinatra app with passenger gives only 404, page not founds. Yet a simple rack app works.

    - by berkes
    I have correctly (or prbably not) installed passenger on apache 2. Rack works, but sinatra keeps giving 404's. Here is what works: config.ru: #app = proc do |env| return [200, { "Content-Type" => "text/html" }, "hello <b>world</b>"] end run app Here is what works too: Running the app.rb (see below) with ruby app.rb and then looking at localhost:4567/about and / restarting the app, gives me a correct hello world. w00t. But then there is the sinatra entering the building: config.ru require 'rubygems' require 'sinatra' root_dir = File.dirname(__FILE__) set :environment, ENV['RACK_ENV'].to_sym set :root, root_dir set :app_file, File.join(root_dir, 'app.rb') disable :run run Sinatra::Application and an app.rb require 'rubygems' require 'sinatra' get '/' do "Hallo wereld!" end get '/about' do "Hello world, it's #{Time.now} at the server!" end This keeps giving 404s. /var/logs/apache2/error.log lists these correctly as "404" with something that worries me: 83.XXXXXXXXX - - [30/May/2010 16:06:52] "GET /about " 404 18 0.0007 83.XXXXXXXXX - - [30/May/2010 16:06:56] "GET / " 404 18 0.0007 The thing that worried me, is the space after the / and the /about. Would apache or sinatra go looking for /[space], like /%20? If anyone knows what this problem relates to, maybe a known bug (that I could not find) or a known gotcha? Maybe I am just being stupid and getting "it all wrong?" Otherwise any hints on where to get, read or log more developers data on a running rack, sinatra or passenger app would be helpfull too: to see what sinatra is looking for, for example. Some other information: Running ubuntu 9.04, apache2-mm-prefork (deb), mod_php5, ruby 1.8.7, passenger 2.2.11, sinatra 1.0

  • Maven building for GoogleAppEngine, forced to include JDO libraries?

    - by James.Elsey
    Hi, I'm trying to build my application for GoogleAppEngine using maven. I've added the following to my pom which should "enhance" my classes after building, as suggested on the DataNucleus documentation <plugin> <groupId>org.datanucleus</groupId> <artifactId>maven-datanucleus-plugin</artifactId> <version>1.1.4</version> <configuration> <log4jConfiguration>${basedir}/log4j.properties</log4jConfiguration> <verbose>true</verbose> </configuration> <executions> <execution> <phase>process-classes</phase> <goals> <goal>enhance</goal> </goals> </execution> </executions> </plugin> According to the documentation on GoogleAppEngine, you have the choice to use JDO or JPA, I've chosen to use JPA since I have used it in the past. When I try to build my project (before I upload to GAE) using mvn clean package I get the following output [ERROR] BUILD ERROR [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [INFO] Failed to resolve artifact. Missing: ---------- 1) javax.jdo:jdo2-api:jar:2.3-ec Try downloading the file manually from the project website. Then, install it using the command: mvn install:install-file -DgroupId=javax.jdo -DartifactId=jdo2-api -Dversion=2.3-ec -Dpackaging=jar -Dfile=/path/to/file Alternatively, if you host your own repository you can deploy the file there: mvn deploy:deploy-file -DgroupId=javax.jdo -DartifactId=jdo2-api -Dversion=2.3-ec -Dpackaging=jar -Dfile=/path/to/file -Durl=[url] -DrepositoryId=[id] Path to dependency: 1) org.datanucleus:maven-datanucleus-plugin:maven-plugin:1.1.4 2) javax.jdo:jdo2-api:jar:2.3-ec ---------- 1 required artifact is missing. for artifact: org.datanucleus:maven-datanucleus-plugin:maven-plugin:1.1.4 from the specified remote repositories: __jpp_repo__ (file:///usr/share/maven2/repository), DN_M2_Repo (http://www.datanucleus.org/downloads/maven2/), central (http://repo1.maven.org/maven2) [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [INFO] For more information, run Maven with the -e switch [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [INFO] Total time: 3 seconds [INFO] Finished at: Sat Apr 03 16:02:39 BST 2010 [INFO] Final Memory: 31M/258M [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Any ideas why I should get such an error? I've searched through my entire source code and I'm not referencing JDO anywhere, so unless the app engine libraries require it, I'm not sure why I get this message.

  • Optimizing tasks to reduce CPU in a trading application

    - by Joel
    Hello, I have designed a trading application that handles customers stocks investment portfolio. I am using two datastore kinds: Stocks - Contains unique stock name and its daily percent change. UserTransactions - Contains information regarding a specific purchase of a stock made by a user : the value of the purchase along with a reference to Stock for the current purchase. db.Model python modules: class Stocks (db.Model): stockname = db.StringProperty(multiline=True) dailyPercentChange=db.FloatProperty(default=1.0) class UserTransactions (db.Model): buyer = db.UserProperty() value=db.FloatProperty() stockref = db.ReferenceProperty(Stocks) Once an hour I need to update the database: update the daily percent change in Stocks and then update the value of all entities in UserTransactions that refer to that stock. The following python module iterates over all the stocks, update the dailyPercentChange property, and invoke a task to go over all UserTransactions entities which refer to the stock and update their value: Stocks.py # Iterate over all stocks in datastore for stock in Stocks.all(): # update daily percent change in datastore db.run_in_transaction(updateStockTxn, stock.key()) # create a task to update all user transactions entities referring to this stock taskqueue.add(url='/task', params={'stock_key': str(stock.key(), 'value' : self.request.get ('some_val_for_stock') }) def updateStockTxn(stock_key): #fetch the stock again - necessary to avoid concurrency updates stock = db.get(stock_key) stock.dailyPercentChange= data.get('some_val_for_stock') # I get this value from outside ... some more calculations here ... stock.put() Task.py (/task) # Amount of transaction per task amountPerCall=10 stock=db.get(self.request.get("stock_key")) # Get all user transactions which point to current stock user_transaction_query=stock.usertransactions_set cursor=self.request.get("cursor") if cursor: user_transaction_query.with_cursor(cursor) # Spawn another task if more than 10 transactions are in datastore transactions = user_transaction_query.fetch(amountPerCall) if len(transactions)==amountPerCall: taskqueue.add(url='/task', params={'stock_key': str(stock.key(), 'value' : self.request.get ('some_val_for_stock'), 'cursor': user_transaction_query.cursor() }) # Iterate over all transaction pointing to stock and update their value for transaction in transactions: db.run_in_transaction(updateUserTransactionTxn, transaction.key()) def updateUserTransactionTxn(transaction_key): #fetch the transaction again - necessary to avoid concurrency updates transaction = db.get(transaction_key) transaction.value= transaction.value* self.request.get ('some_val_for_stock') db.put(transaction) The problem: Currently the system works great, but the problem is that it is not scaling well… I have around 100 Stocks with 300 User Transactions, and I run the update every hour. In the dashboard, I see that the task.py takes around 65% of the CPU (Stock.py takes around 20%-30%) and I am using almost all of the 6.5 free CPU hours given to me by app engine. I have no problem to enable billing and pay for additional CPU, but the problem is the scaling of the system… Using 6.5 CPU hours for 100 stocks is very poor. I was wondering, given the requirements of the system as mentioned above, if there is a better and more efficient implementation (or just a small change that can help with the current implemntation) than the one presented here. Thanks!! Joel

  • Configuration Element Collection Section

    - by Matt
    I would like to set up a custom app configuration element collection section like this <logSectionGroup> <logSection name="Testttt"> <properties name ="Pride"> <pathName="TestingLog.txt"/> <deleteRetention="100"/> <deleteZeroRetention="5"/> <wildcard="*.txt"/> </properties> <properties name ="Adhoc"> <pathName="blah.txt"/> <deleteRetention="70"/> <deleteZeroRetention="3"/> <wildcard="*.*"/> </properties> </logSection> </logSectionGroup> Is this possible? Properties would be the configuration element, and log section would be the configuration element collection. The problem is, I've only seen where you can have multiple instances of a single element instead of multiple elements. <Section name="Section1"> <Section name="Section1"> <SubSection name="SubSection1"> <Item name="Item1" /> <Item name="Item2" /> </SubSection> <SubSection name="SubSection2"> <Item name="Item1" /> <Item name="Item2" /> </SubSection> </Section> When you use GetElementKey() you have it return element "name" in the above example but how would you return 4 different elements like "pathName" "deleteRetention" etc. Here is my Definition for PropElement Public Class PropElement Inherits ConfigurationElement <ConfigurationProperty("pathName", IsRequired:=True)> _ Public Property PathName() As String Get Return CStr(Me("pathName")) End Get Set(ByVal value As String) Me("pathName") = value End Set End Property <ConfigurationProperty("deleteRetention", DefaultValue:="0", IsRequired:=False)> _ Public Property DeleteRetention() As Integer Get Return CStr(Me("deleteRetention")) End Get Set(ByVal value As Integer) Me("deleteRetention") = value End Set End Property <ConfigurationProperty("deleteZeroRetention", DefaultValue:="0", IsRequired:=False)> _ Public Property DeleteZeroRetention() As Integer Get Return CStr(Me("deleteZeroRetention")) End Get Set(ByVal value As Integer) Me("deleteZeroRetention") = value End Set End Property <ConfigurationProperty("wildcard", DefaultValue:="*.*", IsRequired:=False)> _ Public Property Wildcard() As String Get Return CStr(Me("wildcard")) End Get Set(ByVal value As String) Me("wildcard") = value End Set End Property End Class

  • overwrite existing entity via bulkloader.Loader

    - by Ray Yun
    I was going to CSV based export/import for large data with app engine. My idea was just simple. First column of CSV would be key of entity. If it's not empty, that row means existing entity and should overwrite old one. Else, that row is new entity and should create new one. I could export key of entity by adding key property. class FrontExporter(bulkloader.Exporter): def __init__(self): bulkloader.Exporter.__init__(self, 'Front', [ ('__key__', str, None), ('name', str, None), ]) But when I was trying to upload CSV, it had failed because bulkloader.Loader.generate_key() was just for "key_name" not "key" itself. That means all exported entities in CSV should have unique 'key_name' if I want to modify-and-reupload them. class FrontLoader(bulkloader.Loader): def __init__(self): bulkloader.Loader.__init__(self, 'Front', [ ('_UNUSED', lambda x: None), ('name', lambda x: x.decode('utf-8')), ]) def generate_key(self,i,values): # first column is key keystr = values[0] if len(keystr)==0: return None return keystr I also tried to load key directly without using generate_key(), but both failed. class FrontLoader(bulkloader.Loader): def __init__(self): bulkloader.Loader.__init__(self, 'Front', [ ('Key', db.Key), # not working. just create new one. ('__key__', db.Key), # same... So, how can I overwrite existing entity which has no 'key_name'? It would be horrible if I should give unique name to all entities..... From the first answer, I could handle this problem. :) def create_entity(self, values, key_name=None, parent=None): # if key_name is None: # print 'key_name is None' # else: # print 'key_name=<',key_name,'> : length=',len(key_name) Validate(values, (list, tuple)) assert len(values) == len(self._Loader__properties), ( 'Expected %d columns, found %d.' % (len(self._Loader__properties), len(values))) model_class = GetImplementationClass(self.kind) properties = { 'key_name': key_name, 'parent': parent, } for (name, converter), val in zip(self._Loader__properties, values): if converter is bool and val.lower() in ('0', 'false', 'no'): val = False properties[name] = converter(val) if key_name is None: entity = model_class(**properties) #print 'create new one' else: entity = model_class.get(key_name) for key, value in properties.items(): setattr(entity, key, value) #print 'overwrite old one' entities = self.handle_entity(entity) if entities: if not isinstance(entities, (list, tuple)): entities = [entities] for entity in entities: if not isinstance(entity, db.Model): raise TypeError('Expected a db.Model, received %s (a %s).' % (entity, entity.__class__)) return entities def generate_key(self,i,values): # first column is key if values[0] is None or values[0] in ('',' ','-','.'): return None return values[0]

  • Sessions not persisting between requests

    - by klonq
    My session objects are only stored within the request scope on google app engine and I can't figure out how to persist objects between requests. The docs are next to useless on this matter and I can't find anyone who's experienced a similar problem. Please help. When I store session objects in the servlet and forward the request to a JSP using: getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/example.jsp").forward(request,response); Everything works like it should. But when I store objects to the session and redirect the request using: response.sendRedirect("/example/url"); The session objects are lost to the ether. In fact when I dump session key/value pairs on new requests there is absolutely nothing, session objects only appear within the request scope of servlets which create session objects. It appears to me that the objects are not being written to Memcache or Datastore. In terms of configuring sessions for my application I have set <sessions-enabled>true</sessions-enabled> In appengine-web.xml. Is there anything else I am missing? The single paragraph of documentation on sessions also notes that only objects which implement Serializable can be stored in the session between requests. I have included an example of the code which is not working below. The obvious solution is to not use redirects, and this might be ok for the example given below but some application data does need to be stored in the session between requests so I need to find a solution to this problem. EXAMPLE: The class FlashMessage gives feedback to the user from server-side operations. if (email.send()) { FlashMessage flash = new FlashMessage(FlashMessage.SUCCESS, "Your message has been sent."); session.setAttribute(FlashMessage.SESSION_KEY, flash); // The flash message will not be available in the session object in the next request response.sendRedirect(URL.HOME); } else { FlashMessage flash = new FlashMessage(FlashMessage.ERROR, FlashMessage.INVALID_FORM_DATA); session.setAttribute(FlashMessage.SESSION_KEY, flash); // The flash message is displayed without problem getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher(Templates.CONTACT_FORM).forward(request,response); } FlashMessage.java import java.io.Serializable; public class FlashMessage implements Serializable { private static final long serialVersionUID = 8109520737272565760L; // I have tried using different, default and no serialVersionUID public static final String SESSION_KEY = "flashMessage"; public static final String ERROR = "error"; public static final String SUCCESS = "success"; public static final String INVALID_FORM_DATA = "Your request failed to validate."; private String message; private String type; public FlashMessage (String type, String message) { this.type = type; this.message = message; } public String display(){ return "<div id='flash' class='" + type + "'>" + message + "</div>"; } }
