How would I setup Windows Server 2008 as NAT router with only one nic? I only have access to a server with one nic and I can't add a nic to the server.
I have an intranet site using Windows Authentication. When users are prompted for credentials, they enter:
User: domain\username
Pass: SomePassword
It'd be nice if they could leave off the domain\ part which would be filled in with a default domain. I'm willing to give up the ability to login with a server/machine account (non-domain) because we don't use that anyway.
This seems to be possible with BasicAuth but I can't seem to find a reference for how to do it with WindowsAuth.
I have a Dell 2407FWP monitor that has a built in media card reader and USB ports. The USB Ports work fine but the media card reader shows up in Devices as a USB 2.0 device with the error that it can't start. The card reader worked fine under XP Pro SP3 so I'm at a bit of a loss. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Val

There are two font smoothing options for Windows XP: Standard and ClearText. I know the default is NOT to use ClearType, but I am wondering if "standard" is on by default in the majority of XP installation base?
There's a version of AMD Phenom CPU which is 6 cores. Would Windows 2008 64 bit & SQL Server 2008 64 bit make use of all the cores? Any special settings of the OS or sql server needed to benefit from all the 6 cores?
I installed Proxifier an application that makes applications (that might not use the IE proxy settings) use a specific proxy, but right after installing it Windows Live Messenger stopped working. I was looking for alternative programs?
Thank you so much in advance!

I have a file for http://www.getpivot.com/ that is a CXML file. It has been saved as a CXML on our windows 2003 server r2. It doesn't display, and just says
The request is not supported.
If I change the extension to XML, the file works. Is IIS blocking the filetype?

How do I configure the Windows 7 slide show delay?
I'd like to set the delay to either wait until I click the mouse to go to next item or set the delay time in seconds much higher than the default, but I can't find anyplace to set this.
We provide an application as a service, over Windows RemoteApp. It's nearly impossible to deploy updates to the software, though, because if even a single user is online then the file is in-use and cannot be replaced.
Is there some way to make this possible or easier? If it were possible, I'd be deploying probably 2-3 updates per day. As it is, I sometimes have to go all week without deploying one.
Hello, I'm looking at Windows Home Server and I'm wondering if the users you create on the server will let you log into any machine that's connected to the home server?
I have a Windows Server 2003 64bits, and it has two IE8 inside, 32-bit and 64-bit.
When I run "iexplore.exe", debug in visual studio, clicking links, and etc, the 64-bit will popup and some plugins do not work.
How can I fix my system that it will always run the 32-bit IE by default?
I have a Mirrored Dynamic disk on my Windows 2003 Server. How do you monitor the health of the volume?
Is there a way to have the server send an email when there is an issue with the volume?
Is there a way to have the server run S.M.A.R.T. tests?
I'm in a school where all students have tablet PCs, where they use the handwriting (text recognition) function quite a bit. Recently one of the language teachers has asked if they can enter French accents using this method - it seems that one definitely can using windows 7 ultimate, but we're using Pro. I understand that if one changes the entire input language, then this should work, but it doesn't seem to. Any ideas?
I'm an Emacs/Mac user trapped on Windows at work and I often type Control-W from muscle memory to delete a word and thus by mistake kill the entire window, including everything that I was working on. This a particularly egregious problem for Console2 as I run GNU Screen and am often doing many things at once.
Is there any way to completely disable Control-W or remap it to something that is far harder to type?
Thanks!
In Windows Vista, when I press Alt+Tab, the application switcher overlay only shows on the primary monitor (the one with the task bar on it). Is there a way (via control panel, registry setting, third party tool, whatever) to have the overlay display on all monitors instead?
I'm using 64-bit TortoiseSVN on a 64-bit Windows 7 Professional. Every so often a checkout or update will fail with an error message like the following:
Error: Can't move
Error: '[...]\\.svn\tmp\entries'
Error: to
Error: '[...]\\.svn\entries':
Error: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
then CHKDSK runs after reboot, which makes me nervous.
Does anyone know why this might be happening or how I can avoid it?
