  • Windows XP: Slow start menu 'All Programs' response

    When I click start, and then 'All Programs' (or select a sub menu of all programs) I get a grey menu which does not respond for about 5 seconds - after this it is ok. Any idea what is causing the menu to behave sluggishly? What can be done to fix this? Thanks Info Requested System Specs : Core2 T5500 @1.66GHz, 2GB Ram Windows version: XP Professional SP2 Happens Every time I click the menu (not just first time), has gradually been getting worse. Nothing too unusual at startup: ComodoFirewall, AVG AV, Truecrypt (only for small volume). AV Software: AVG.

  • Start multiple Firefoxes; Xephyr rootless mode

    How to have multiple independent instances of Mozilla Firefox 3.5 on the same X server, but started from different user accounts (consequently, different profiles)? Limited success was only with Xephyr :1, DISPLAY=:1 /usr/local/bin/firefox, but Xephyr has no Cygwin/X's "rootless" mode so it not comfortable. The idea is to have one Firefox instance for various "Serious Business" things and the other for regular browsing with dozens of add-ons securely isolated. /* Requested tags: xephyr rootless */

  • Routing problem with calling a new method without an ID

    I'm trying to put together a form_tag that edits several Shift objects. I have the form built properly, and it's passing on the correct parameters. I have verified that the parameters work with updating the objects correctly in the console. However, when I click the submit button, I get the error: ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound in ShiftsController#update_individual Couldn't find Shift without an ID My route for the controller it is calling looks like this looks like this: map.resources :shifts, :collection => { :update_individual => :put } The method in ShiftsController is this: def update_individual Shift.update(params[:shifts].keys, params[:shifts].values) flash[:notice] = "Schedule saved" end The relevant form parts are these: <% form_tag( update_individual_shifts_path ) do %> ... (fields for...) <%= submit_tag "Save" %> <% end %> Why is this not working? If I browse to the url: "http://localhost:3000/shifts/update_individual/5" (or any number that corresponds to an existing shift), I get the proper error about having no parameters set, but when I pass parameters without an ID of some sort, it errors out. How do I make it stop looking for an ID at the end of the URL?

  • uitableview reloadData issue

    I've been debugging my iphone app and found something interesting. I have a UIViewControllers with TabBarcontroller( 6 tabs). each tab is a UIViewController and it has a UITtableview. The viewDidLoad works and brings the initial data. On of the UITableView has a search bar. After the user touchs presses search some magic happens and I get an array with data. I cant see the new data in the tableview and the [tableView reloadData] has no effect outside viewDidLoad (first time). I can see the array holding the data and the dataSource is set to self. Yet, no displaying of data! so I 've tried [self.tableView reloadData] & [self.tableView setNeedsDisplay] Funny enough, the new data is not being displayed. However if I move the table up or down the cellForRowAtIndexPath is being fired and the first row shows data. can anyone shed some light on this mystery??? if there a [self.view refreshscreen] ??

  • Python dealing with dates and times

    I'm looking for a solution to the following: Given today's date, figure out what month was before. So 2 should return for today, since it is currently March, the third month of the year. 12 should return for January. Then based on that, I need to be able to iterate through a directory and find all files that were created that month. Bonus points would include finding the most current file created for the previous month.

  • MySql: Select all entries with count...

    Hey guys quick question, I have a query that I want to count all entries it finds, and select all so when I use while($row=mysql_fetch_assoc($query)){ it will list all entries. The problem I am encountering is that while, all the entries are successfully counted and the right number is listed, only the latest entry is select and listed when I echo $row['title']. If I delete , COUNT(*) as total then it selects all but I was wondering if it was possible to use count and select *. I was wondering if anyone knew what I am doing wrong? SELECT *, COUNT(*) as total FROM new_messages WHERE username='$session->username

  • How to set up Mercurial with ssl/security

    I've been following the hginit.com tutorial on how to use mercurial. Everything is going fine except it uses push_ssl=False. This does not work for my situation because I want pushes (and pulls if possible) to be secure. All the tutorials I've been able to find also use push_ssl=False. Can anyone give me pointers on how to set up ssl/security for Mercurial? Thanks.

  • How can I create a FreeBSD package using EPM that has the ORIGIN @comment?

    I'm building packages of our internal software products using EPM, and over time these packages (of which we have a large number) clutter up the output of pkg_delete and pkg_add with the following general kind of messages: err: pkg_add: package MYPACKAGE has no origin recorded I can see from some old FreeBSD lists that the +CONTENTS file in the package must have a line like this: @comment ORIGIN:some_source_path What I don't see is a way to get this line in place using EPM. Can somebody tell me how to do this?

  • Trouble passing JSP values to ActionForm (Struts)

    Hi, I am a newbie to Struts and have inherited a problem. I am trying to pass 3 values contained in the same table cell from a JSP to my ActionForm class. The first value (and others in the JSP) work fine, but for some reason the other two do not. I have the appropriate getters and setters, but only the first (newrecnum) shows up, the other two are null. Is there a limitation to only pass the first value? Or is there something else wrong? Here is the JSP code: <td> <html:text size="10" maxlength="10" property="newrecnum"/><br> <html:text size="5" maxlength="5" property="newrectime"/> <html:select property="newreccode" disabled="true"> <html:option value="YES">YES</html:option> <html:option value="NO">NO</html:option></html:select> </td> I can include the ActionForm code as well if needed.   • How to read log4j output to a web page?

    I have a web page, used for admin purposes, which runs a task (image fetching from a remote site). In order to be able to debug the task using the browser only, no ssh etc, I'd like to be able to read all log output from the executing thread and spit it out to the web page. The task boils down to: Changing log level for current thread at the beginning of the call and restore when the call is done. Reading all log output by current thread and storing it in a string. So in pseudocode my execute() method would look like this: (I'm using struts2) public String execute() throws Exception { turnLoggingLevelToDebugOnlyForThisThread() ... do stuff... restoreLoggingLevelForThisThread() String logs = readAllLogsByThisThread(); } Can this be done with log4j? I'm using tomcat, struts2, log4j and slf4j.

  • How do I export and import application services with say MEF?

    I'm working with MEF right now, but the answer I'm looking for probably is irrelevant to MEF -- it's all dependency injection -- I'm just using MEF terminology as an example here. Short background story, I read this article over at MSDN with focus on Composite Applications In this figure there's three things, the shell, the application services and the modules. So that's a composite application. What I don't fully get is the application services part. What's the service, what does it look like? How do you expose a service through a module and how do you consume a service from a different module? I'd really like to see some neat small code examples, nothing fancy but something to illustrate how all this comes to life (the application services part).

  • Importing a dmp with partitioned tables into Oracle XE

    I've got a schema containing partitioned tables. I can use exp to create a .dmp, but when I import that into Oracle XE, I get errors because Oracle XE doesn't support partitioned tables. How do I get the .dmp imported into Oracle XE? I think pre-creating the tables might do it, but how do I extract the DDL in some automated way to do this? Or can I create the exp somehow without partitions?
