  • How do I distribute my slightly customized Linux in VirtualBox?

    Suppose I've got some Arch Linux installation which I'd like to distribute among students with (sometimes very) basic Linux knowledge to make them able to compile C programs in an environment very similar to that in the university. (Things like Cygwin or MinGW seem to be inappropriate here.) I also choose VirtualBox as a holder for the virtual system. The question is: how do I distribute it? I mean: installing VirtualBox on the target machine (if not still installed) uncompressing and copying my image file (.VDI) registering the image (so that VirtualBox could see it when launched) configuring the guest system in VirtualBox (network, memory, etc.) optionally installing PuTTY to simplify interfacing with the guest Linux Should I create an installer? Which one? Or just write some .BAT-scripts? (Target host system is Windows, mostly XP and Vista.) I definately don't want to have a webpage with screen shot explaining where to click and what to press, because it's boring. Additionaly, what will be the best (the most user-friendly) way to configure network when the guest Linux system is run for the first time?

  • JavaScript inheritance extend function

    I'm having some trouble understanding the IF clause at the end of this function from Pro JavaScript Design Patterns: function extend(subClass, superClass) { var F = function() {}; F.prototype = superClass.prototype; subClass.prototype = new F(); subClass.prototype.constructor = subClass; subClass.superclass = superClass.prototype; if(superClass.prototype.constructor == Object.prototype.constructor) { superClass.prototype.constructor = superClass; } } The book explains that these lines ensure that the superclass's constructor attribute is correctly set, even if the superclass is the Object class itself. Yet, if I omit those three lines and do the following: function SubClass() {}; extend(SubClass, Object); alert(Object.prototype.constructor == Object); The alert says 'true', which means the superclass's constructor is set correctly even without those last three lines. Under what conditions, then, does this IF statement do something useful? Thanks.

  • How can one put together multiple arrays into one string?

    I'm having a hard time describing what I'm looking for. If we pretend that we're pulling an array (I've used the .split to get user input data) where each line represents a link. How can I then add an anchor tagg to that link that I'm pulling? I need to be able to put < a href=" + thearray + "anything< /a. The reason for this is that I'm dynamically creating a list. I think that if I create two variables, one with this part < a href=" one with the closing and then call some sort of function that puts those two and the pulled array in between them until the list is complete. Does this make any sense?

    Hi all, How does something like this work without Flash? http://www.dirtyphonebook.com/dashboard/425-205-1921 I right-clicked on it but there's no Flash menu. I love Flash because its stable and works. But is using some sort of Javascript hack for this kind of complex behavior actually a good idea?

  • Is there a way to call custom method of Custom Role Provider class

    Hello friends, I have created my own custom role provider class "SGI_RoleProvider" and configured properly. Everything is working fine. Suppose that I have added a public method say "SayHello()", then how can i call that. Because if i am using Roles then the method is not displayed. If i am forcefully using that Roles.SayHello() then compiler gives the error. Any suggestion how can i call this. Because creating a new instance of SGI_RoleProvider is meaningless. Thanks for sharing your time.

  • Why no final dot for domain names?

    I recently learned that a fully qualified domain name ends in a dot, e.g. www.microsoft.com.. Why do I almost never see this? We casually toss around www.microsoft.com, a relative domain name, without a second thought. It's not mere pedantry, because it seems there's a security issue: someone in your network could create www.microsoft.com.example.com. to hijack your requests to www.microsoft.com. Why doesn't the internet community have a tradition of using genuinely fully qualified domain names?

  • Some notebooks can connect to internet via certain wireless router, some can't

    I take a class in the building of a business and we sometimes use their internet via Wi-Fi. In the last few weeks, though, some notebooks haven't been able to connect to the internet even though they are connected to the router. It affected first a few of us and then all of us. Last week I tweaked around the network settings on the router (yes, the admin password is the same as the network key) and even moved the internet cable on the router from port 1 to the internet port. None of this really worked so I put things more or less back as I found them and alerted someone that someone who knew more than me had better have a look at the router. So, I don't know if anybody has had a look at it but now 2 of us can again connect to the internet. I had a look at the router settings last week and I really couldn't see what might be creating this issue. What might be the problem?

  • Wife's Email going into Junk Mail folder in Outlook despite turning off Junk Mail

    I recently started a new job. Today I tried emailing my wife from my new company email account. When she responded, her email went into the "Junk E-mail" folder. So I tried a few things: Added her to the "Safe Senders" list Added her as an Outlook contact and checked the "Also trust email from my Contacts" box in the "Safe Senders" tab Added her domain to the "Safe Senders" list Switched from "Low" to "No Automatic Filtering" in the Junk Email options No matter what I would do, her emails would still go into the Junk Email folder. Can anyone recommend additional things to try? EDIT: This is using Exchange.

    Hello,I study assembly on High-school and I would like to try to make assembly programs at home. I downloaded NASM but I don't understand how to run the .s files with it - if you can write a simple way here to run it I'd glad :-) and in addition I have a question: when I use ADC for exmaple: AL = 01 and BL = 02, and CF = 1, when I make this: ADC AL,BL Will AL be 3 or 4? (with the CF addition or without?) Thank you!!

  • Trying to get excel 2003 into already made windows form

    good afternoon everyone :) I got sucha dilemma! (hate being new at stuff!) What my problem is is that I have a project that is in full design mode swing right now. I built it using the Windows form.. Anyways, on one of my forms..that I already started building (very painstakingly).. Minds have changed and now what needs to be on that form is either a full excel 2003 workbook..or at the very least..excel worksheet. The problem is that I have not been using studio 2008 for long..and coding experience shows the same. Can someone please tell me how the heck I can put a worksheet or a workbook on that form without starting my whole project over using office forms? Please..go slow with this newbie cuz i really dont know anything and Jargon is confusing me even more :( thanxxXXX :)

    THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED. I DUNNO HOW TO CLOSE THIS QUESTION. ANOTHER SERVICE IS PROPABLY RUNNING AT ALMOST SAME SYNC THAT DOES THE THING. MY WORK "MATE" WILL HEAR A THING OR TWO IN THE MORNING.   • Qt: Background color on QStandardItem using StyleSheet

    Hi I have a class that inherits QStandardItem and I put the elements in a QTreeWidget. The class receive notifications from the outside and I want to change the background color of the item based on what happened. If I do not use stylesheets it works just fine, like this: void myClass::onExternalEvent() { setBackground(0, QColor(255,0,0))); } However as soon as I put a stylesheet on the QTreeWidget this has no effect, the stylesheet seems to override the setBackground call. So I tried : void myClass::onExternalEvent() { this-setStyleSheet("background-color: red"); } but this is probably all wrong, it changed the color of some other element on my screen, not sure why. So anyone have an idea on how I can alter the background color like with setBackgroundColor but still be able to use stylesheet on my QTreeWidget?

  • Image jQuery scroller in a container. (like facebook cropper) can't get values of position.

    Hey all. Having a reallllll mind pain. I have a php image uploader which is all good and sotring the file and the jquery ajax is returning the image in an ammended html div with a div set up like this: #crop-holder { width:80px; height:80px; margin:10px 10px 20px 10px; border:1px #c0c0c0 solid; overflow:hidden; cursor:move; } The image is viewing fine and I am using the jquery scrollview plugin: http://code.google.com/p/jquery-scrollview/ I have tried adding a few lines to the plugin to store variables of scrollTop and Left and then replacing two hidden input values with x and y in my page. And then on the returned ajax html in the div I am trying to on a button click (for example) retrieve the values of the two hidden inputs.... Heres what i added to the plugin (i'm no js expert!): .mouseout(function(){ var _m = this.m; var lasty = _m.scrollTop(); getElementById("ycord").value = lasty; var lastx = _m.scrollLeft(); getElementById("xcord").value = lastx; self.stopgrab(); }) Still no luck!! How can I get the scrollTop and scrollLeft and successfully prepare them for sending onto another php script!? Thanks:) stefpretty

    Is it possible to create collision free hash function for a data structure with specific properties. The datastructure is int[][][] It contains no duplicates The range of integers that are contained in it is defined. Let's say it's 0..1000, the maximal integer is definitely not greater than 10000. Big problem is that this hash function should also be very fast. Is there a way to create such a hash function? Maybe at run time depending on the integer range?

    I am trying to reference a variable within my MasterPage but I am receiving errors. I have tried <%@ MasterType" %: which gives the following error: `Compiler Error Message: CS0030: Cannot convert type 'IPAMIntranet.IPAMIntranetMaster' to 'ASP.ipamintranetmaster_master' and "string tVar = ((MyNamespace.MyMasterPage)Master).variable" which gives the following error: `Unable to cast object of type 'ASP.ipamintranetmaster_master' to type 'IPAMIntranet.IPAMIntranetMaster'.` Does anyone know what is happening or am I missing something.

    Does anyone know how to obtain the browser culture from firefox and google chrome using javascript? Note: This is an asp.net 3.5 web application. The requirement is to try and set the applications display culture based on the browser culture. I have found very few bits and pieces of information for the other browsers but they do not seem to work.   • How to run a .Net Console App in the background

    I have Console Application written in C# that is scheduled to run every 15 min. or so using the Built in Windows Task Scheduler. Every time it runs the black console box pops up for the duration of it's execution and then closes. I am not writing anything to the console. Is there a way to make this run in the background?
