• Protect Files from Git

- by Tanner
I'm using Git with WindRiver to manage a project of mine. The code is being managed, however the project files (such as .cproject, .project, .wrmakefile, and .wrproject) are not. However when I switch branches, Git deletes those files spite them being in .gitignore, thereby removing my ability to compile the code without having to revert commits or keeping a backup. So, is there a way to say to Git - ignore these files and don't touch them no matter what?

• XSD traversal in VIM

- by maayank
I use VIM as my text editor and I edit a lot of XML and WSDL files. WSDL files have an XSD section. Is there some VIM plugin I can use to traverse the XSD types? i.e., if I have the following line and the caret is where the '|' sign is: <xsd:element minOccurs="0" name="FooName" type="Magic|FooType"/> and I press Ctrl+Alt+Foo (or some other magic combo) it will get me to the definition of MagicFooType, i.e.: <xsd:complexType name="MagicFooType"> I couldn't find how to use ctags for this and all the other plugins that I could find are for imperative languages (i.e. Java). Is there some plugin/script to do the job?

• How to call IronPython function from C#/F#?

- by prosseek
This is kind of follow up questions of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2969194/integration-of-c-f-ironpython-and-ironruby In order to use C/C++ function from Python, SWIG is the easiest solution. The reverse way is also possible with Python C API, for example, if we have a python function as follows def add(x,y): return (x + 10*y) We can come up with the wrapper in C to use this python as follows. double Add(double a, double b) { PyObject *X, *Y, *pValue, *pArgs; double res; pArgs = PyTuple_New(2); X = Py_BuildValue("d", a); Y = Py_BuildValue("d", b); PyTuple_SetItem(pArgs, 0, X); PyTuple_SetItem(pArgs, 1, Y); pValue = PyEval_CallObject(pFunc, pArgs); res = PyFloat_AsDouble(pValue); Py_DECREF(X); Py_DECREF(Y); Py_DECREF(pArgs); return res; } How about the IronPython/C# or even F#? How to call the C#/F# function from IronPython? Or, is there any SWIG equivalent tool in IronPython/C#? How to call the IronPython function from C#/F#? I guess I could use "engine.CreateScriptSourceFromString" or similar, but I need to find a way to call IronPython function look like a C#/F# function.

• How do I store a Java KeyStore password?

- by Anthony D
In my web application I access a private key that is stored in a Java KeyStore. I would like to know what is the best/recommended way to store the password for the KeyStore and private key. I've considered using a properties file but that does not seem very secure for use in a production environment (storing password in a plain text file). Also, hard-coding the password in my code is not an option I'm willing to entertain. Thanks.

• Complex select query question for hardcore SQL designers

- by eugeneK
Very complex query been trying to construct it for few days with more real success. I'm using SQL-SERVER 2005 Standard What i need is : 5 CampaignVariants from Campaigns whereas 2 are with the largest PPU number set and 3 are random. Next condition is that CampaignDailyBudget and CampaignTotalBudget are below what is set in Campaign ( calculation is number of clicks in Visitors table connected to Campaigns via CampaignVariants on which users click) Next condition CampaignLanguage, CampaignCategory, CampaignRegion and CampaignCountry must be the ones i send to this select with (languageID,categoryID,regionID and countryID). Next condition is that IP address i send to this select statement won't be in IPs list for current Campaign ( i delete inactive for 24 hours IPs ). In other words it gets 5 CampaignVariants for user that enters the site, when i take from user PublisherRegionUID,IP,Language,Country and Region view diagram

• What characters are NOT escaped with a mysqli prepared statement?

- by barfoon
Hey everyone, I'm trying to harden some of my PHP code and use mysqli prepared statements to better validate user input and prevent injection attacks. I switched away from mysqli_real_escape_string as it does not escape % and _. However, when I create my query as a mysqli prepared statement, the same flaw is still present. The query pulls a users salt value based on their username. I'd do something similar for passwords and other lookups. Code: $db = new sitedatalayer(); if ($stmt = $db->_conn->prepare("SELECT `salt` FROM admins WHERE `username` LIKE ? LIMIT 1")) { $stmt->bind_param('s', $username); $stmt->execute(); $stmt->bind_result($salt); while ($stmt->fetch()) { printf("%s\n", $salt); } $stmt->close(); } else return false; Am I composing the statement correctly? If I am what other characters need to be examined? What other flaws are there? What is best practice for doing these types of selects? Thanks,

• focus() jQuery function doesn't work in Safari, but works fine on all other browsers?

- by pMan
I have a search text field and search button, when button is clicked with default text in text field, or null value, an alert pops up and sets focus back on search text field. This works very well on all major browsers but not in safari. I tried it even with out jquery, but didn't work. When the focus falls on search text field, I have another jQuery function, is that the problem. The code that sets focus on search text is: if (defaults.keyword == SEARCH_TIP || defaults.keyword == '') { alert(SEARCH_NULL); $('#store_search_keyword').focus(); return false; } The code on focus is: var search_dom = $('#store_search_keyword'); var search_text = search_dom.val(); search_dom.focus(function(){ if ($(this).val() === SEARCH_TIP) { $(this).val(''); } }); any help is appreciated, thanks..

• How do I filter certain javascripts from running and not block them all on Drudge Report?

- by jay
How do I block this particular "auto refresh" script on Drudge Report from running in my Firefox browser? I have NoScript and AdblockPlus plugins installed, but neither of them explain how to filter out a particular script and keep it from running and leave the rest alone. I don't want to stop all javascripts from running just the one listed below. Any help would be appreciated. "var timer = setInterval("autoRefresh()", 1000 * 60 * 3); function autoRefresh(){self.location.reload(true);}"

• DD-WRT/openwrt question

- by Shiki
Can I squeeze more speed out of my router (when it comes to USB attached storage device on it) with open/DD wrt? (Sorry I don't really know such firmwares.) (Guess it works with ntfs-3g? I don't know.) Feel free to make this a real question. Basically the question: Does the change worth it in the terms of speed? (My router is a TP-Link WR1043N. Edited it out of the question since it would make it too specified.)

• Simulating proxy in VMware

- by BloodPhilia
I'm currently testing out a new proxy system that I'd like to try out on my own computer. Because I do not have an additional PC available, I though I'd do it with VMware. Here's what I'd like to do: The physical computer is to make an internet connection using the VMware proxy and not the router. Is this (1) possible and (2) if so, how am I to accomplish this? Thanks!

• Reverse geocode street name and city as text

- by Taylor Satula
Hello, I have been having some trouble finding a good way to output just the street name and city as text (Infinite Loop, Cupertino shown here) that can be displayed in my iPhone app. This needs to be able to dynamically change as you change streets and city. I don't have the slightest idea of how to do this, I hope someone can help. I have attached a very rough image of what I am trying to acheave. I have found this (http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/services.html#Geocoding) for google maps about how to reverse geocode using javascript, but what I do not understand is how this would be done in a iPhone development setting. I work in web design and I see how it would be done in HTML but I am very new to iPhone development and don't have the slightest clue of how it would be done here. If someone could spell out how to do this I would be extremely grateful. I cannot seem to find what I am looking for by searching Google. • Python + Expat: Error on entities

- by clacke
I have written a small function, which uses ElementTree and xpath to extract the text contents of certain elements in an xml file: #!/usr/bin/env python2.5 import doctest from xml.etree import ElementTree from StringIO import StringIO def parse_xml_etree(sin, xpath): """ Takes as input a stream containing XML and an XPath expression. Applies the XPath expression to the XML and returns a generator yielding the text contents of each element returned. >>> parse_xml_etree( ... StringIO('<test><elem1>one</elem1><elem2>two</elem2></test>'), ... '//elem1').next() 'one' >>> parse_xml_etree( ... StringIO('<test><elem1>one</elem1><elem2>two</elem2></test>'), ... '//elem2').next() 'two' >>> parse_xml_etree( ... StringIO('<test><null></null><elem3>three</elem3></test>'), ... '//elem2').next() 'three' """ tree = ElementTree.parse(sin) for element in tree.findall(xpath): yield element.text if __name__ == '__main__': doctest.testmod(verbose=True) The third test fails with the following exception: ExpatError: reference to invalid character number: line 1, column 13 Is the entity illegal XML? Regardless whether it is or not, the files I want to parse contain it, and I need some way to parse them. Any suggestions for another parser than Expat, or settings for Expat, that would allow me to do that?

• A couple problems re: CodeIgniter emailer

- by Walker
I have some problems with the email system for CodeIgniter: First, the emails I send out (registration, confirmations) are getting caught in standard spam filters in gmail and other mail clients. How do I get around this? How do companies like Facebook get their emails through consistently? Second, the mailer is working locally but once we deploy it it no longer runs (doesn't send emails) but all the other forms run just fine. Anyone ever run into a problem like this? Thanks for all the help!

• Set the thumbImage and watch the slider-bar disappear?

- by Roberta
[sld1 setThumbImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"Blue.png"] forState:UIControlStateHighlighted]; [sld1 setThumbImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"Blue.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal ]; Would that cause the slider-bar image to disappear? Mine are all gone. (The thumb-image displays just fine.) Apple's docs make it sounds like I can use any ONE of above 2 lines of code. (But I guess I really need both.) And I can't find anything about "you must always do all 4": Set the normal-state image. Set the highlighted-state image. Set the setMinimumTrackImage. Set the setMaximumTrackImage.

• Windows Mobile 7 corporate device...

- by Toymaker
Does anyone know of a Windows Mobile 7 device aimed at business use? I’m looking for something with bar code scanning capability. Psion, hand held, and honeywell only offer 6.5 at the moment. Granted, Windows Mobile 7 just barely came out and these sorts of devices usually lag a bit behind consumer toys...but hopefully someone can help.
