  • Google app engine: Poor Performance with JDO + Datastore

    I have a simple data model that includes USERS: store basic information (key, name, phone # etc) RELATIONS: describe, e.g. a friendship between two users (supplying a relationship_type + two user keys) I'm getting very poor performance, for instance, if I try to print the first names of all of a user's friends. Say the user has 500 friends: I can fetch the list of friend user_ids very easily in a single query. But then, to pull out first names, I have to do 500 back-and-forth trips to the Datastore, each of which seems to take on the order of 30 ms. If this were SQL, I'd just do a JOIN and get the answer out fast. I understand there are rudimentary facilities for performing joins across un-owned relations in a relaxed implementation of JDO (as described at http://gae-java-persistence.blogspot.com) but they sound experimental and non-standard (e.g. my code won't work in any other JDO implementation). Is this really my best bet? Otherwise, how do people extract satisfactory performance from JDO/Datastore in this kind of (very common) situation? -Bosh

  • How are DynamicResources built?

    Are dynamic resources truly dynamic? If I define a DynamicResource, I realise that an expression is created (where?) that is not translated into a resource until runtime, however, What I do not understans is whether this dynamicresouce, once built, is now "Static" For instance, if I create a context menu via a dynamicresource, are the menuitems which are created at runtime on access then static, even if they are bound?

  • OpenNETCF Signature control question

    I am using the Signature control in OpenNETCF. It works great for most everything I need. However, I need a way invert the signature and load it back in. It has a call to get the "bytes" for the signature (GetSignatureEx()). It returns a byte[] of the signature. This signature can then be loaded back in with LoadSignatureEx(). I can't seem to figure out the system for these bytes. I thought they may be coordinates, but it does not seem so now. If anyone out there knows a way to invert the signature and load it back in, I would be grateful to hear it.

  • Not able to install iPhone final 3.2 SDK

    Hi All, I downloaded latest SDK xcode_3.2.2.2_and_iPhone_SDK_3.2_final.dmg from apple site. I uninstall the old SDk and double click the .dmg file then i got a popup stating that "The following Disk Images couldnt found" and "xcode_3.2.2.2_and_iPhone_SDK_3.2_final.dmg is not recognized". I am using OS 10.6.3 Thank You

  • In Silverlight, what is the best way to convert between a System.Drawing.Color and a System.Windows.

    I'm trying to convert from a System.Drawing.Color to a Silverlight System.Windows.Media.Color. I'm actually trying to pass this color through a service. The System.Drawing.Color, passed over the wire, does not serialize the argb value independently. I can convert the argb value to a 32-bit int [DataMember] public int MyColor { get { return Color.Red.ToArgb(); } set {} } But I don't see any corresponding method in System.Windows.Media.Color to convert that back. What is the best way to do this?

  • What the difference between zend framework and Wordpress as framework ?

    i only know wordpress and start to seek another alternative framework, zend. i heard hearsay that zend's better from others framework. if you're "a serous coder", or try to act like one, you need to use it on building your web app. some said zend is better. But it's subjective. It's fast ans secure. But nobody tell me the reason or at leas compare it with with wordpress. ultimate question : Do zend have theme or plugin just like wordpress ? any hint will be helpful

    Say I have a structure like: class SomeObject Public Name as String Public Created as Date ... end class I have a List(of SomeObject), which has multiple entries for each name with different times. I'd like to select the newest (largest Created value) object for each Name. Given: Name Created A 2010-04-16 * A 2010-04-15 B 2010-04-12 B 2010-04-13 * C 2010-04-16 * I'd like to pick the objects with the * beside them. Is this possible using LINQ?

  • iPad: Tables in Popover Views do not Scroll to Show Selected Row

    I am having two problems with viewcontrollerss in landscape orientation on the iPad. (1) I have two popups which hold tables. The tables should scroll to a specific row to reflect a selection in the main view. Instead, the tables do scroll down some but the actual selected row remains off screen. (2) All my action sheets come up with a width of 320. In Interface Builder, all my views are created in landscape orientation. Only the main Window is not, but I don't see a way to change that. My Configuration: Upon launch, I get the following coordinates for my main window and the main viewcontroller view: Window frame {{0, 0}, {768, 1024}} mainView frame {{0, 0}, {748, 1024}} All other views after that show these coordinates when summoned (when loaded but before being presented): frame of keysig {{0, 0}, {1024, 768}} frame of instrumentSelect {{20, 0}, {1024, 768}} frame of settings {{0, 0}, {467, 300}} In all my viewControllers, i respond to shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation with: return ((interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft) || (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight)); Everything (almost) functions as expected. The app launches into one of the two landscape modes. The views (and viewcontrollers) display everything where it belongs and taps work all across the screen as expected. However, I still have the two problems. Problem 1: I have two popups containing tables long enough to run off screen. The tables should scroll to a selected row. They do scroll i.e. they don't start visually at row 1 but they don't scroll enough to actually show the selected row. It almost seems like a UITable internal rect gets created with the wrong number and stays that way but I've checked both of the UITableView's scrollView content coordinates and they seemed reasonable. Problem 2: I think this is related to problem 1 because my actionsheets come up with a width of 320. I can only assume that the iPad allows actionSheets in only 320 or 480 widths and since it somehow thinks that the screen is oriented in portrait mode, it uses the narrower width. There you have it. I can't believe I am still getting hung up on orientation issues. I swear Apple doesn't make it easy to have a landscape app. Any ideas?

    Hello, I am using solrj as client for indexing documents on the solr server. I am having problem while deleting the indexes by 'id' from the solr server. I am using following code to delete the indexes: server.deleteById("id:20"); server.commit(true,true); After this when i again search for the documents, the search result contains the above document also. Dont know what is going wrong with this code. Please help me out with issue. Thanks!

  • Login with Kohana auth module - what am I doing wrong?

    I'm trying to login with the following controller action, but my login attempt keeps failing (I get the 'invalid username and/or password' message). What am I doing wrong? I also tried the other method given in the examples in the auth documentation, Auth::instance()->login($user->username, $form->password);, but I get the same result.   • How do I diagnose Windows XP failure to automatically suspend on idle?

    Since upgrading my hardware (mobo, CPU and memory) a couple months ago my computer no longer automatically suspends and hibernates after the configured idle periods. Both functions work just fine manually, but if I leave the computer on overnight it's still active the next morning even though it's configured to sleep after 3 hours and hibernate after 6 hours. How do I diagnose the cause of this?

The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool.   • WPF absolute positioning in InkCanvas

    Hi, I'm trying to position a rectangle in an InkCanvas. I am using the following method. Unfortunately when I add the rectangle it gets displayed at (0,0). Although when I query to see the whether the left property is 0 I get a non zero values. Does anyone know why this might be?     hi GridView.DataKeynames stores the names of the primary key fields for the items displayed in a GridView control. 1) Even though I’ve set DataKeyNames, GridView still doesn’t store record’s primary key value(s) in DataKey object: protected void SqlDataSource1_Selected(object sender, SqlDataSourceStatusEventArgs e) { Label2.Text = GridView2.DataKeys[0].Value.ToString();//exception } Why not? 2) I assume when DataKeyNames is set, DataKey object stores both original and new values of a primary key ( assuming we issued an update command ) and when the update is finished, DataKey object discards the original value(s)?
