  • Vacant thumbnail spot persists on Chrome homepage, want to set it specific to a site

    - by 9dan
    I have a vacant thumbnail place in Google Chrome that I would like to set for a particular site. In this case, it's Facebook. When I visit a new website a new thumbnail is created for that site in the sixth spot. Wanting to place Facebook at the sixth location I deleted the new thumbnail and visited Facebook again. But the sixth place remains vacant no matter how often I visit Facebook. What can I do to set a specific thumbnail position a particular site?

It happens directly after login or just as any application is selected. Nothing new has been installed. I have just moved from XP so I would be very grateful if some one could please explain to me, as simply as possible, how to do the following... How to diagnose the problem so it can be fixed, remember it may have to be before the log in. all help is greatly appreciated.

  • Managed WMI Event class is not an event class???

    - by galets
    I am using directions from here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms257351(VS.80).aspx to create a managed event class. Here's the code that I wrote: [ManagementEntity] [InstrumentationClass(InstrumentationType.Event)] public class MyEvent { [ManagementKey] public string ID { get; set; } [ManagementEnumerator] static public IEnumerable<MyEvent> EnumerateInstances() { var e = new MyEvent() { ID = "9A3C1B7E-8F3E-4C54-8030-B0169DE922C6" }; return new MyEvent[] { e }; } } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { var thisAssembly = typeof(Program).Assembly; var wmi_installer = new AssemblyInstaller(thisAssembly, null); wmi_installer.Install(null); wmi_installer.Commit(null); InstrumentationManager.RegisterAssembly(thisAssembly); Console.Write("Press Enter..."); Console.ReadLine(); var e = new MyEvent() { ID = "A6144A9E-0667-415B-9903-220652AB7334" }; Instrumentation.Fire(e); Console.Write("Press Enter..."); Console.ReadLine(); wmi_installer.Uninstall(null); } } I can run a program, and it properly installs. Using wbemtest.exe I can browse to the event, and "show mof": [dynamic: ToInstance, provider("WmiTest, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null")] class MyEvent { [read, key] string ID; }; Notice, the class does not inherit from __ExtrinsicEvent, which is weird... I can also run select * from MyEvent, and get the result. Instrumentation.Fire() also returns no error. However, when I'm trying to subscribe to event using "Notification Query" option, I'm getting 0x80041059 Number: 0x80041059 Facility: WMI Description: Class is not an event class. What am I doing wrong, and is there a correct way to create managed WMI event?

  • how to pass variable arguments from one function to other in tcl

    - by vaichidrewar
    I want to pass variable arguments obtained in one function to other function but I am not able to do so. Function gets even number of variable arguments and then it has to be converted in array. Below is the example. Procedure abc1 gets two arguments (k k) and not form abc1 procedure these have to be passed to proc abc where list to array conversion it to be done. List to array conversion works in proc1 i.e. abc1 but not in second proc i.e. abc Error obtained is given below proc abc {args} { puts "$args" array set arg $args } proc abc1 {args} { puts "$args" array set arg $args set l2 [array get arg] abc $l2 } abc1 k k abc k k Output: k k {k k} list must have an even number of elements while executing "array set arg $l1" (procedure "abc" line 8) invoked from within "abc $l2" (procedure "abc1" line 5) invoked from within "abc1 k k" (file "vfunction.tcl" line 18)

  • What's wrong with this JAVA code for android?

    - by Umair Ashraf
    I have written this piece of code to break an image into 9 pieces and it gives me runtime error. There is no error in LogCat and I am stuck. The error comes at line 7 line from bottom (Bitmap.createBitmap(...);). public Bitmap[] getPieces(Bitmap bmp) { Bitmap[] bmps = new Bitmap[9]; int width = bmp.getWidth(); int height = bmp.getHeight(); int rows = 3; int cols = 3; int cellHeight = height / rows; int cellWidth = width / cols; int piece = 0; for (int x = 0; x <= width; x += cellWidth) { for (int y = 0; y <= height; y += cellHeight) { Bitmap b = Bitmap.createBitmap(bmp, x, y, cellWidth, cellHeight, null, false); bmps[piece] = b; piece++; } } return bmps; }

  • Allowing asterisk in URL - ASP.NET MVC 2 - .NET 4.0 or encoding

    - by raRaRa
    I'm having a trouble allowing asterisk (*) in the URL of my website. I am running ASP.NET MVC 2 and .NET 4.0. Here's an example that describes the problem: http://mysite.com/profile/view/Nice* The username is Nice* and ASP.NET says there are illegal characters in the URL: Illegal characters in path. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.ArgumentException: Illegal characters in path. I have tried all the Web.config methods I've seen online such as: <pages validateRequest="false"> and <httpRuntime requestPathInvalidCharacters="" requestValidationMode="2.0" /> So my question is: Is it possible to allow asterisk in URL? If not, is there some encoding method in .NET that can encode asterisk(*) ? Thanks!

  • MySQL query with 2 COUNT() of other tables with where conditions

    - by Isern Palaus
    Hello, I've a table called sports that contains a list of list of sports, other called seasons that contains the seasons for a specific sport and competitions that have the competitions of a specific sport and season. I need one MySQL query to print the list of sports with how much seasons and competitions has each. My tables structure: sports +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | int(10) unsigned | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | name | varchar(32) | NO | | NULL | | | slug | varchar(45) | NO | | NULL | | | description | varchar(128) | NO | | NULL | | +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ seasons +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | int(10) unsigned | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | id_sport | int(10) unsigned | NO | MUL | NULL | | | name | varchar(32) | NO | | NULL | | | slug | varchar(32) | NO | | NULL | | +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ competitions +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | int(10) unsigned | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | id_season | int(10) unsigned | NO | MUL | NULL | | | name | varchar(32) | NO | | NULL | | | slug | varchar(64) | NO | | NULL | | | description | varchar(128) | YES | | NULL | | +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ The result of my query needs to contain: sports.*, total_seasons (SUM of seasons where seasons.id_sport=sports.id) and total_competitions (SUM of competitions where competitions.id_season=seasons.id AND seasons.id_sport=sports.id). Thank you in advance!

  • FMOD Compiling trouble

    - by CptAJ
    I'm trying to get started with FMOD but I'm having some issues compiling the example code in this tutorial: http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article2098.asp I'm using MinGW, I placed the libfmodex.a file in MinGW's include folder (I also tried linking directly to the filename) but it doesn't work. Here's the output. C:\>g++ -o test1.exe test1.cpp -lfmodex test1.cpp:4:1: error: 'FSOUND_SAMPLE' does not name a type test1.cpp: In function 'int main()': test1.cpp:9:29: error: 'FSOUND_Init' was not declared in this scope test1.cpp:12:4: error: 'handle' was not declared in this scope test1.cpp:12:53: error: 'FSOUND_Sample_Load' was not declared in this scope test1.cpp:13:30: error: 'FSOUND_PlaySound' was not declared in this scope test1.cpp:21:30: error: 'FSOUND_Sample_Free' was not declared in this scope test1.cpp:22:17: error: 'FSOUND_Close' was not declared in this scope This is the particular example I'm using: #include <conio.h> #include "inc/fmod.h" FSOUND_SAMPLE* handle; int main () { // init FMOD sound system FSOUND_Init (44100, 32, 0); // load and play sample handle=FSOUND_Sample_Load (0,"sample.mp3",0, 0, 0); FSOUND_PlaySound (0,handle); // wait until the users hits a key to end the app while (!_kbhit()) { } // clean up FSOUND_Sample_Free (handle); FSOUND_Close(); } I have the header files in the "inc" path where my code is. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

  • Why can a public class not inherit from a less visible one?

    - by Dan Tao
    I apologize if this question has been asked before. I've searched SO somewhat and wasn't able to find it. I'm just curious what the rationale behind this design was/is. Obviously I understand that private/internal members of a base type cannot, nor should they, be exposed through a derived public type. But it seems to my naive thinking that the "hidden" parts could easily remain hidden while some base functionality is still shared and a new interface is exposed publicly. I'm thinking of something along these lines: Assembly X internal class InternalClass { protected virtual void DoSomethingProtected() { // Let's say this method provides some useful functionality. // Its visibility is quite limited (only to derived types in // the same assembly), but at least it's there. } } public class PublicClass : InternalClass { public void DoSomethingPublic() { // Now let's say this method is useful enough that this type // should be public. What's keeping us from leveraging the // base functionality laid out in InternalClass's implementation, // without exposing anything that shouldn't be exposed? } } Assembly Y public class OtherPublicClass : PublicClass { // It seems (again, to my naive mind) that this could work. This class // simply wouldn't be able to "see" any of the methods of InternalClass // from AssemblyX directly. But it could still access the public and // protected members of PublicClass that weren't inherited from // InternalClass. Does this make sense? What am I missing? }

  • SSRS Parameters Displaying incorrectly

    - by Ryan
    Basically, I have a datetime parameter, after picking a date with the calendar widget, the date will display correctly (12/1/2010 or 1-DEC-2010). If the parameter tab refreshes in any way, either from report processing or changing another of the parameters, the date flips the month and day (1-DEC-2010 becomes 12-Jan-2010, or 12/1/2010 becomes 1/12/2010). I'm utilizing the SSRS plugin for C# (Microsoft.Reporting.Winforms.ReportViewer). Has anyone seen anything like this?

  • How can I intelligently group rows of integers for a faceted search?

    - by Alastair
    I'm not even quite sure what terms I should be using for what I want, so any advice on what I'm even asking for would be very welcome. Basically, my web site lists user-generated accommodations. Each has a rent price, which users will be able to query in our new faceted search box. Users search by city, and within each city I'd like to present a different rent grouping. That is to say that in City #1, if we have listings ranging from $200 - $1000, I'd like to present checkboxes for: less than $300 $301 - $500 $501 - $700 more than $700 However, if City #2 has values that range from $500 - $1500, I want the ranges above to change accordingly. So, if I say that I want 5 or 6 range options in each city, I think I have two options: Take the min and max values and just split the difference. I don't like this idea because one listing with a rent of $10,000 will throw the whole scale off. Intelligently calculate the ranges using means, medians etc. Number 2 is what I need help with. I'm a web developer that gets logic, but was never strong on math and statistics at school. Can anyone point me towards a guide that'll help me figure this out?

  • Getting values from another winform and passing it to current!

    - by klm9971
    Hello: I have 2 windows forms. The 1st one who gets active during start of the program has a button in which another 2nd windows form appears which has text field in which user type their name and HIT okay. Now in the 1st form I have a variable name: nameproccessed which takes the name from the second form. But the problem is my button which is in the 1st form has more functions besides taking name, how can I stop the flow of the compiler to take first the name from the second form and then process the rest execution of the function??? Here is the snippet of my code: //1st form //Class1 public string _nameProcessed = ""; private void btnGetSomething_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { showdial(); //some more functionalities in this function!!! } private void showdial() { InputName inm = new InputName(); inm.Show(); } //2nd form //Class2 public string name; private void btnEnterName_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { name = tbxName.Text; Class1 ict = new Class1(); ict._nameProcessed = name; this.Close(); } Now I want to take the 'name' from the second form put it on the _nameprocessed in the 1st form and then execute the rest of the function. How can I do that? Any help!

  • jquery .click function not getting triggered

    - by aakashbhowmick
    I have the following HTML and Javascript code. I am trying to make a search suggestion system. The list-items in the unordered-list 'search_suggest' are retrieved dynamically using ajax as the user types in the input box 'site_search' and inserted. <form name="search_site_form" method="get" action="search.php"> <input id="site_search" name="q" class="search_input input" autocomplete="off" value="Search the site" type="text"/> <ul id="search_suggest"> </ul> <input value=" " type="submit" class="search_submit"/> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- $("ul#search_suggest>li").click(function(){ alert('123'); }); //--> </script> </form> Clicking on the list items in search_suggest however is not triggering the click function. Any idea why?

  • php convert images and upload to amazon s3

    - by faraklit
    I am looking for a best practice while uploading images to amazon s3 server and serving from there. We need four different sizes of an image. So just after image upload we convert the image and scale in 4 different widths and heights. And then we send them to the amazon s3 using official php api. // ... // image conversions, bucket setting, s3 initialization etc. $sizes= array("", "48", "64", "128"); foreach($sizes as $size) { $filename = $upload_path.$dest_file.$size.$ext; $s3->batch()->create_object($bucket, , array( 'fileUpload' => $filename, 'acl' => AmazonS3::ACL_PUBLIC, )); } But for a 1M image the client sometimes wait up to 30 seconds which is a very long time. Instead of sending images immediately to S3, it may be better to add them to a job queue. But the user should see the uploaded image immediately.

  • Which is quicker? Memcache or file query? (using maxmind geoip.dat file)

    - by tomcritchlow
    Hi, I'm using Python on Appengine and am looking up the geolocation of an IP address like this: import pygeoip gi = pygeoip.GeoIP('GeoIP.dat') Location = gi.country_code_by_addr(self.request.remote_addr) (pygeoip can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/pygeoip/) I want to geolocate each page of my app for a user so currently I lookup the IP address once then store it in memcache. My question - which is quicker? Looking up the IP address each time from the .dat file or fetching it from memcache? Are there any other pros/cons I need to be aware of? For general queries like this, is there a good guide to teach me how to optimise my code and run speed tests myself? I'm new to python and coding in general so apologies if this is a basic concept. Thanks! Tom

  • Consolidating coding styles: Funcs, private method, single method classes

    - by jdoig
    Hi all, We currently have 3 devs with, some, conflicting styles and I'm looking for a way to bring peace to the kingdom... The Coders: Foo 1: Likes to use Func's & Action's inside public methods. He uses actions to alias off lengthy method calls and Func's to perform simple tasks that can be expressed in 1 or 2 lines and will be used frequently through out the code Pros: The main body of his code is succinct and very readable, often with only one or 2 public methods per class and rarely any private methods. Cons: The start of methods contain blocks of lambda rich code that other developers don't enjoy reading; and, on occasion, can contain higher order functions that other dev's REALLY don't like reading. Foo 2: Likes to create a private method for (almost) everything the public method will have to do . Pros: Public methods remain small and readable (to all developers). Cons: Private methods are numerous. With private methods that call into other private methods, that call into... etc, etc. Making code hard to navigate. Foo 3: Likes to create a public class with a, single, public method for every, non-trivial, task that needs performing, then dependency inject them into other objects. Pros: Easily testable, easy to understand (one object, one responsibility). Cons: project gets littered by classes, opening multiple class files to understand what code does makes navigation awkward. It would be great to take the best of all these techniques... Foo-1 Has really nice, readable (almost dsl-like) code... for the most part, except for all the Action and Func lambda shenanigans bulked together at the start of a method. Foo-3 Has highly testable and extensible code that just feels a bit "belt-&-braces" for some solutions and has some code-navigation niggles (constantly hitting F12 in VS and opening 5 other .cs files to find out what a single method does). And Foo-2... Well I'm not sure I like anything about the one-huge .cs file with 2 public methods and 12 private ones, except for the fact it's easier for juniors to dig into. I admit I grossly over-simplified the explanations of those coding styles; but if any one knows of any patterns, practices or diplomatic-manoeuvres that can help unite our three developers (without just telling any of them to just "stop it!") that would be great. From a feasibility standpoint : Foo-1's style meets with the most resistance due to some developers finding lambda and/or Func's hard to read. Foo-2's style meets with a less resistance as it's just so easy to fall into. Foo-3's style requires the most forward thinking and is difficult to enforce when time is short. Any ideas on some coding styles or conventions that can make this work?

  • Image appearing in the wrong place.

    - by Luke
    I have a list that I want to precede on each line with a small image. The CSS: .left div.arrow{background-image: url(../images/design/box.png); float:left; height:15px; width:15px; margin-right:2px;} .left a.list:link, a:visited, a:active {color:black; font-size:0.8em; text-decoration:none; display:block; float:left;} The HTML: <div class="panel">My quick links</div> <div class="arrow"></div> <a href="/messages.php?p=new" class="list">Send a new message</a> <br /> <div class="arrow"></div> <a href="/settings.php#password" class="list">Change my password</a> <br /> <div class="arrow"></div> <a href="/settings.php#picture" class="list">Upload a new site image</a> <br /> As you can see, each image should go before the writing. On the first line, the text "Send a new message" has the preceeding image. However, each line afterwards has the image at the end. So "Send a new message" has an image at the start and finish. It is like the images are staying at the end of the previous line. Any ideas?

  • How can I access IEnumerable<T> extension methods on my custom subclass of BindingList<T>?

    - by Dan
    I have a custom subclass of BindingList<T> that I want to execute a LINQ query over using the handy extension methods. For example: public int GetSum(MyList<T> list) { return list.Sum(x => x.Value); } But the compiler complains that it can't resolve Sum because it doesn't recognize list as an IEnumerable<T>, which it obviously is, because this works: public int GetSum(MyList<T> list) { return ((IEnumerable<T>)list).Sum(x => x.Value); } Anyone have a clever way I can avoid the ugly and unecessary cast?

  • Dotfuscator Deep Dive with WP7

    - by Bil Simser
    I thought I would share some experience with code obfuscation (specifically the Dotfuscator product) and Windows Phone 7 apps. These days twitter is a buzz with black hat and white operations coming out about how the marketplace is insecure and Microsoft failed, blah, blah, blah. So it’s that much more important to protect your intellectual property. You should protect it no matter what when releasing apps into the wild but more so when someone is paying for them. You want to protect the time and effort that went into your code and have some comfort that the casual hacker isn’t going to usurp your next best thing. Enter code obfuscation. Code obfuscation is one tool that can help protect your IP. Basically it goes into your compiled assemblies, rewrites things at an IL level (like renaming methods and classes and hiding logic flow) and rewrites it back so that the assembly or executable is still fully functional but prying eyes using a tool like ILDASM or Reflector can’t see what’s going on.  You can read more about code obfuscation here on Wikipedia. A word to the wise. Code obfuscation isn’t 100% secure. More so on the WP7 platform where the OS expects certain things to be as they were meant to be. So don’t expect 100% obfuscation of every class and every method and every property. It’s just not going to happen. What this does do is give you some level of protection but don’t put all your eggs in one basket and call it done. Like I said, this is just one step in the process. There are a few tools out there that provide code obfuscation and support the Windows Phone 7 platform (see links to other tools at the end of this post). One such tool is Dotfuscator from PreEmptive solutions. The thing about Dotfuscator is that they’ve struck a deal with Microsoft to provide a *free* copy of their commercial product for Windows Phone 7. The only drawback is that it only runs until March 31, 2010. However it’s a good place to start and the focus of this article. Getting Started When you fire up Dotfuscator you’re presented with a dialog to start a new project or load a previous one. We’ll start with a new project. You’re then looking at a somewhat blank screen that shows an Input tab (among others) and you’re probably wondering what to do? Click on the folder icon (first one) and browse to where your xap file is. At this point you can save the project and click on the arrow to start the process. Bam! You’re done. Right? Think again. The program did indeed run and create a new version of your xap (doing it’s thing and rewriting back your *obfuscated* assemblies) but let’s take a look at the assembly in Reflector to see the end result. Remember a xap file is really just a glorified zip file (or cab file if you prefer). When you ran Dotfuscator for the first time with the default settings you’ll see it created a new version of your xap in a folder under “My Documents” called “Dotfuscated” (you can configure the output directory in settings). Here’s the new xap file. Since a xap is just a zip, rename it to .cab or .zip or something and open it with your favorite unarchive program (I use WinRar but it doesn’t matter as long as it can unzip files). If you already have the xap file associated with your unarchive tool the rename isn’t needed. Once renamed extract the contents of the xap to your hard drive: Now you’ll have a folder with the contents of the xap file extracted: Double click or load up your assembly (WindowsPhoneDataBoundApplication1.dll in the example) in Reflector and let’s see the results: Hmm. That doesn’t look right. I can see all the methods and the code is all there for my LoadData method I wanted to protect. Product failure. Let’s return it for a refund. Hold your horses. We need to check out the settings in the program first. Remember when we loaded up our xap file. It started us on the Input tab but there was a settings tab before that. Wonder what it does? Here’s the default settings: Renaming Taking a closer look, all of the settings in Feature are disabled. WTF? Yeah, it leaves me scratching my head why an obfuscator by default doesn’t obfuscate. However it’s a simple fix to change these settings. Let’s enable Renaming as it sounds like a good start. Renaming obscures code by renaming methods and fields to names that are not understandable. Great. Run the tool again and go through the process of unzipping the updated xap and let’s take a look in Reflector again at our project. This looks a lot better. Lots of methods named a, b, c, d, etc. That’ll help slow hackers down a bit. What about our logic that we spent days weeks on? Let’s take a look at the LoadData method: What gives? We have renaming enabled but all of our code is still there. If you look through all your methods you’ll find it’s still sitting there out in the open. Control Flow Back to the settings page again. Let’s enable Control Flow now. Control Flow obfuscation synthesizes branching, conditional, and iterative constructs (such as if, for, and while) that produce valid executable logic, but yield non-deterministic semantic results when decompilation is attempted. In other words, the code runs as before, but decompilers cannot reproduce the original code. Do the dance again and let’s see the results in Reflector. Ahh, that’s better. Methods renamed *and* nobody can look at our LoadData method now. Life is good. More than Minimum This is the bare minimum to obfuscate your xap to at least a somewhat comfortable level. However I did find that while this worked in my Hello World demo, it didn’t work on one of my real world apps. I had to do some extra tweaking with that. Below are the screens that I used on one app that worked. I’m not sure what it was about the app that the approach above didn’t work with (maybe the extra assembly?) but it works and I’m happy with it. YMMV. Remember to test your obfuscated app on your device first before submitting to ensure you haven’t obfuscated the obfuscator. settings tab: rename tab: string encryption tab: premark tab: A few final notes Play with the settings and keep bumping up the bar to try to get as much obfuscation as you can. The more the better but remember you can overdo it. Always (always, always, always) deploy your obfuscated xap to your device and test it before submitting to the marketplace. I didn’t and got rejected because I had gone overboard with the obfuscation so the app wouldn’t launch at all. Not everything is going to be obfuscated. Specifically I don’t see a way to obfuscate auto properties and a few other language features. Again, if you crank the settings up you might hide these but I haven’t spent a lot of time optimizing the process. Some people might say to obfuscate your xaml using string encryption but again, test, test, test. Xaml is picky so too much obfuscation (or any) might disable your app or produce odd rendering effets. Remember, obfuscation is not 100% secure! Don’t rely on it as a sole way of protecting your assets. Other Tools Dotfuscator is one just product and isn’t the end-all be-all to obfuscation so check out others below. For example, Crypto can make it so Reflector doesn’t even recognize the app as a .NET one and won’t open it. Others can encrypt resources and Xaml markup files. Here are some other obfuscators that support the Windows Phone 7 platform. Feel free to give them a try and let people know your experience with them! • Getting Started with Chart control in ASP.Net 4.0

    - by sreejukg
    In this article I am going to demonstrate the Chart control available in ASP.Net 4 and Visual Studio 2010. Most of the web applications need to generate reports for business users. The business users are happy to view the results in a graphical format more that seeing it in numbers. For the purpose of this demonstration, I have created a sales table. I am going to create charts from this sale data. The sale table looks as follows I have created an ASP.Net web application project in Visual Studio 2010. I have a default.aspx page that I am going to use for the demonstration. First I am going to add a chart control to the page. Visual Studio 2010 has a chart control. The Chart Control comes under the Data Tab in the toolbox. Drag and drop the Chart control to the default.aspx page. Visual Studio adds the below markup to the page. <asp:Chart ID="Chart1" runat="server"></asp:Chart> In the designer view, the Chart controls gives the following output. As you can see this is exactly similar to other server controls in ASP.Net, and similar to other controls under the data tab, Chart control is also a data bound control. So I am going to bind this with my sales data. From the design view, right click the chart control and select “show smart tag” Here you need so choose the Data source property and the chart type. From the choose data source drop down, select new data source. In the data source configuration wizard, select the SQL data base and write the query to retrieve the data. At first I am going to show the chart for amount of sales done by each sales person. I am going to use the following query inside sqldatasource select command. “SELECT SUM(SaleAmount) AS Expr1, salesperson FROM SalesData GROUP BY SalesPerson” This query will give me the amount of sales achieved by each sales person. The mark up of SQLDataSource is as follows. <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:SampleConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT SUM(SaleAmount) as amount, SalesPerson FROM SalesData GROUP BY SalesPerson"></asp:SqlDataSource> Once you selected the data source for the chart control, you need to select the X and Y values for the columns. I have entered salesperson in the X Value member and amount in the Y value member. After modifications, the Chart control looks as follows Click F5 to run the application. The output of the page is as follows. Using ASP.Net it is much easier to represent your data in graphical format. To show this chart, I didn’t even write any single line of code. The chart control is a great tool that helps the developer to show the business intelligence in their applications without using third party products. I will write another blog that explore further possibilities that shows more reports by using the same sales data. If you want to get the Project in zipped format, post your email below.
