• DateTimeAxis - set Label to display Date + Time

  Hi, Is there a way in flex 3 chart component to display both the date and time using horizontal DateTimeAxis? Currently the DateTimeAxis element has an attribute dataunits which allows to set the value to any of "milliseconds|seconds|minutes|hours|days|weeks|months|years" but I want to display the label as "2009/09/15 06:00:00" which includes the day and the time too. • PHP coding - A class for each view or one class to rule them all?

  I am starting my first "programming" project in PHP making some sort of web application that give the linux program, Motion, a decent web interface. Anyways, I was curious as to how when real applications are programmed, do y'all go for a class for each view or one single class for the application altogether? I know this is more of a preference thing, I was just curious as to how it happens in real software.

• twisted deferred/callbacks and asynchronous execution

  hey guys, quick question about twisted and python... im trying to figure out how can i make my code more asynchronous using twisted and ive come to sort of a dead end, if a function of mine returns a deferred object, then i add a list of callbacks, the first callback will be called after the deferred function provides some result through deferred_obj.callback, then, in the chain of callbacks, the first callback will do something with the data and call the second callback and etc. however chained callbacks will not be considered asynchronous because they're chained and the event loop will keep firing each one of them concurrently until there is no more, right? however, if i have a deferred object, and i attach as its callback the deferred_obj.callback as in d.addCallback(deferred_obj.callback) then this will be considered asynchronous, because the deferred_obj is waiting for the data, and then the method that will pass the data is waiting on data as well, however once i d.callback 'd' object processes the data then it call deferred_obj.callback however since this object is deferred, unlike the case of chained callbacks, it will execute asynchronously... correct? meaning chained callbacks are NOT asynchronous while chained deferreds are, correct? thank you PS: assuming all of my code is non-blocking

• Website badge system

  I am currently working on a widget-based website, built entirely on user socialization. Since a reputation system pays off for attracting users, I decided to implement one of these. Now, I would like to hear some solutions on how should this be implemented the right way (take, for example, Foursquare's badge system). Basically, I need to be able to do the following: have a badges table, where I can add, edit and delete badges; be able to enable and disable a badge; be able to introduce a new badge, but without writing new code - simply give some parameters to the add badge form regarding what should be followed in order for a user to receive a badge; be able to give badges in real time - meaning that whenever a user accomplishes whatever it needs to receive a badge, the system should know immediately to give the badge to that user; also, the system should not be overloaded with "badge listeners" - I believe interrogating each user request with every badge requirements is time consuming; These being said, I would like to hear your opinions on how to implement the right way a badge system (logic, database schema, methods etc.) Thank you very much!

• Unable to retrieve data, mysql php pdo

• Postgresql full text search part of words

  Is postresql capable of doing a full text search, based on 'half' a word? For example i'm trying to seach foor tree, but i tell postgres to search for 'tr'. I can't find such a solution that is capable of doing this. Currently i'm using this select * from test, to_tsquery('tree') as q where vectors @@ q ; But i like to do something like this: select * from test, to_tsquery('tr%') as q where vectors @@ q ;

• CoffeeScript on Windows?

  How can I try CoffeeScript on Windows? The installation instructions are only for *nix: http://jashkenas.github.com/coffee-script/#installation EDIT: I don't think I need node.js -- I am just writing javascript for web pages, (using some jQuery, etc)...So all I really want is simple way to write CoffeeScript and "compile" it down to JavaScript. Isn't there a Ruby program that would do it? Or even better, a windows exe? (i dont use ASP.NET either...i use Python/Django) FINAL EDIT: Thanks for the help -- In the end I installed VirtualBox and created a virtual Linux machine which I now use to program coffeescript with node.js. (It was surprisingly easy to start using VirtualBox -- easier than doing the Cygwin thing). I run jEdit (for which you can get a CoffeeScript syntax highlighter) and I put the corresponding js file side-by-side with the coffeescript file. When I compile the coffeescript to js, the editor automatically re-loads the new javascript, which allows me to check that it has compiled the way I expect (which is a good thing while learning the coffeescript syntax).

• Targeting all subclassed CCSprites (cocos2d)

  I'm working on a method to end the level, but to do so, I have to see that all of the enemy character have been killed. If my enemies are CCSprites, how do I make a method that detects if all of them are dead? I'm tracking their health with an int called enemyHp. • Z-index bug with IE6.. can't seem to figure this one out

  I am working on this gorgeous header here at : http://kayaskitchenbelmar.com/test/header.html Unfortunately, in IE6, the drop downs that come off of the Print and View buttons collapse on to a new line. This is because of the common z-index bug. I tried resolving this by making the parent div have a higher z-index and position relative with its child a lower z-index and position absolute, but that didn't seem to work. Possibly I'm missing something obvious? Thanks so much

• What is the point of padding?

  In particular, I'm reading into the Mach-O binary file format for Intel 32 on OS X. After the FAT header there is a whole bunch of padding before the offset of the first archive. What is the point of all this padding? To be more specific, there is upwards of 4000 bytes of padding between the FAT header and the first archive (in particular, the mach_header). Why include all these extra bytes?! Is OS X fond of adding 4 MB to all their universal binaries?

• SATA hard disk for laptop on Desktop PC

  I know that this forum is for programming-related questions only, but I'm having this dilemma so here I go. Can I connect a laptop SATA hard disk to Desktop PC? Do I have to use some adapters or I can just plug in SATA power connector and SATA data cable like my Desktop hard disk is connected? I noticed that both laptop and desktop SATA disks use same connectors, but I'm afraid that I might fry my laptop hard disk because the SATA connector has both 12V and 5V voltage (given the fact that laptop hard disks has input voltage of 5V) Thanks in advance

• C++ print out a binary search tree

  Hello, Got nothing better to do this Christmas holiday, so I decided to try out making a binary search tree. I'm stuck with the print function. How should the logic behind it work? Since the tree is already inserting it in a somewhat sorted order, and I want to print the tree from smallest values to the biggest. So I need to travel to the furthest left branch of the tree to print the first value. Right, so after that how do I remember the way back up, do I need to save the previous node? A search in wikipedia gave me an solution which they used stack. And other solutions I couldn't quite understand how they've made it, so I'm asking here instead hoping someone can enlight me. I also wonder my insert function is OK.   I am having this unexplained NoMethodError with undefined method `events' for #. I don't know why since my model association are well defined and the event table has the foreign keys for the user table. • Open + Save .exe file in notepad makes it corrupted

  Hi, I just published this simple console application that is supposed to show a textbox with the value of a setting called "userID" with value 1001. This works like a charm. Now what I need is to change this value outside the editor, from notepad etc. When I open the application a lot in there is non-sence (& o! -å Þþþ,o" Ü+) etc. but with a quick (ctrl + F) I found the value 1001, and changed this to some other integer. I ran the application again, and it failed, didn't even give any userful error-message. At a point I tried just opening a newly published non-corrupted version of the application, didn't change anything, then saved from notepad, and it were also corrupted. It seems like notepad can't open some characters or something. Do I need to publish the application in some specific text-unicode language or something? Help much appreciated :) I know it sounds like a stupid application, but it is just a test of concept :) I use vb.net for this

• iOS Development: Can I store an array of integers in a Core Data object without creating a new table to represent the array?

  Hello. I'm using Core Data and I'm trying to figure out the simplest way to store an array of integers in one of my Core Data entities. Currently, my entities contain various arrays of objects that are more complex than a single number, so it makes sense to represent those arrays as tables in my DB and attach them using relationships. If I want to store a simple array of integers, do I need to create a new table with a single column and attach it using a one-to-many relationship? Or is there a more simple way?   I'm currently using Windows Authentication with 2 Oracle servers - SP3DSMP1 & SP3DSMP4. I created a database link on SMP1 to connect to SMP4 as: SQL create public database link LINK_SMP4 2 connect to CURRENT_USER 3 using 'SP3DSMP4'; Database link created. However when I try to do a query, I get the error: ERROR at line 1: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied Any ideas what might be wrong here? thanks Sunit

• shorewall masquerading from tun0 to ppp0

  First interface is ppp0 (pptp vpn) Second inteface is tun0 (openvpn) Third interface eth0 (default gw interface) Openvpn is set to change default route on client for all packets to go through tun0 vpn, that part is working ok. I would like to make all packets from tun0 go to ppp0 and get out from that interface (MASQ) but somehow they always end up on eth0 (default gw interface) /etc/shorewall/masq ppp0 tun0 doesn't seem to work

• Vlans and subinterfaces

  I've inherited a moderate size network that I'm trying to bring some sanity to. Basically, its 8 public class Cs and a slew of private ranges all on one vlan (vlan1, of course). Most of the network is located throughout dark sites. I need to start separating some of the network. I've changed the ports from the main cisco switch (3560) to the cisco router (3825) and the other remote switches to trunking with dot1q encapsulation. I'd like to start moving a few select subnets to different vlans. To get some of the different services provided on our address space (and to separate customers) on to different vlans, do I need to create a subinterface on the router for each vlan and, if so, how do I get the switch port to work on a specific vlan? Keep in mind, these are dark sites and geting console access is difficult if not impossible at the moment. I was planning on creating a subinterface on the router for each vlan then setting the ports with services I want to move to a different vlan to allow only that vlan. • Port forwarding not working properly

  I'm trying to host a small web server from my home network; however, I have not been able to successfully port forward ports to the local server. My current network topology looks like this: Cable Modem/Router - Secondary Wireless Router - Many computers (including server) The modem/router I'm using is a Cisco (Scientific Atlantic) DPC2100, provided by my ISP. The wireless router that I'm using as the central hub to my home network is a Linksys E3000. The computer being used as a server is running Ubuntu 10.04 Server Edition. The main issue is that I can't access the server remotely, using my WAN IP address. I have port forwarded my wireless router; however, I believe that I need to somehow set my modem to bridge mode. As far as I can tell though, this isn't possible. Here are the various IP address settings: DPC2100 WAN: 69.xxx.xxx.xxx Internal IP: 192.168.100.1 Internal Network: 192.168.7.0 E3000 IP Address: 192.168.7.2 Gateway: 192.168.7.1 Internal IP: 192.168.1.1 Internal Network: 192.168.1.0 Server IP Address: 192.168.1.123 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 Now I can do an nmap at various nodes, and here are the results (from the server): nmap localhost: 22,25,53,80,110,139,143,445,631,993,995,3306,5432,8080 open nmap 192.168.7.2: 22,25,80 (filtered),110,139,445 open (ports I have forwarded in the E3000)* nmap 69.xxx.xxx.xxx: 1720 open *For some reason, I can SSH into the server at 192.168.7.2, but not view the website. • SQL Server Authentication vs Windows Authentication

  Hi, I am a SQL Server newbie and would really appreciate any help. I have created a new login (test2) with sql server authentication and granted select & vierw definition permission on another schema (test1) to test2. I am however not able to see the objects of test1 in the object explorer. However I can select the objects from the Query Window. Since this new login is being used to develop reports the user would like to view the objects in the Object Explorer. Another user test3 created using windows authentication and similar permissions is able to see test1's objects in the explorer. Please let me if this is the cause and if not how can help test2 see the objects in Object Explorer.

• Bacula Volume Retention and Automatic Recycling

  Will a bacula volume be recycled if: No more volumes are appendable The date of the last job on it is past the volume retention period Jobs on that volume are not past the job and file retention periods This is the way the manual reads to me, but I saw a post saying all retention periods have to be up before a volume is recycled (which does make less sense to me). Anyone know for sure from experience?

  While checking on Exim's log messages I found many entries of the following message "Sender verify failed" "rejected RCPT" ... I 'm not an exim expert... I'm afraid Exim is not delivering 100% emails to recipients, because our Email Marketing Application its getting a lower OPEN RATE. Can someone helpe understand this log messages? • MacVim + tmux or: The Copy Paste Riddle

  Now this is weird. Copied a chunk of a text from somewhere into clipboard. Ran mvim from a tmux buffer. Opened a file in MacVim. Pasted the text. MacVim results with the error: E353: Nothing to register + Nothing gets pasted. The plot thickens: I try to copy this error -- paste fails. I go over the same steps, this time running MacVim from a regular Terminal window (without tmux) -- Everything is in its right place. Whaa?
