  • Recursive Functions for Beginners?

    I'm looking for a few recursive function examples, preferably ones that show increase in complexity. I understand basic recursive functions, but I'm having trouble implementing them in my code. I've never used them in my code before, and I know it doesn't always call for it, but I'd like to try. Is there a good resource with examples, and maybe challenges of some sort? Or even some simple math problems (Project Euler-style?) that I could use recursion on? For examples, I prefer C#, but anything works.

  • How can I save and read to XML the new C++ style matrix objects in OpenCV?

    The old, C style cvMat matrices could be passed to the cvSave() function for easy writing to an XML file. The new C++ style cv::Mat and cv::Mat_ matrices are not accepted by this function. The OpenCV reference has a section on XML persistence, but the three classes (FileStorage, FileNode and FileNodeIterator) lack any description or example and I can't figure out how to use them from the interface.   • similarity between strings - sql server 2005

    Hi, I am looking for a simple way (UDF?) to establish the similarity between strings. The SOUNDEX and DIFFERENCE function do not seem to do the job. Similarity should be based on number of characters in common (order matters). For example: Spiruroidea sp. AM-2008 and Spiruroidea gen. sp. AM-2008 should be recognised as similar. Any pointers would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Christian

  • Why won't my WPF XAML Grid TranslateTransform.X ?

  • C# Proxy using Sockets, how should I do this?

    I'm writing a proxy using .NET and C#. I haven't done much Socket programming, and I am not sure the best way to go about it. What would be the best way to implement this? Should I use Synchronous Sockets, Asynchronous sockets? Please help! It must... Accept Connections from the client on two different ports, and be able to receive data on both ports at the same time. Connect to the server on two different ports, and be able to send data on both ports as the same time. Immediately connect to the server and start forwarding packets as soon as a client connection is made. Forward packets in the same order they were received. Be as low latency as possible. I don't need the ability for multiple clients to connect to the proxy, but it would be a nice feature if its easy to implement.   • Good alternative to Eregi() in PHP

    I often find myself doing quick checks like this: if (! eregi('.php',$fileName)) $filename.='.php'; But sadly eregi() is going to be deprecated in PHP 6, which means all of my code that uses it will be rendered useless :(. Is there another function that behaves exactly the same way as eregi()? I don't know anything about reg exps and don't want to learn, so preg_match() etc won't work for me.

    I am having a problem using the signedCMS.decode routine. See the code below.   • Why flash makes Firefox not to respond

    I have a full page flash animation. When this page is open at Firefox and I want to minimize or re-size Firefox screen, minimize button starts to blink and Firefox does not take any action till this tab is closed. There is not too much code in the flash file. What can cause this? Also this could not be related with full page. I saw other flash files doing same thing. As I remember same problem at Daily Motion. When trying to switch tab nothing happens till I stop video or close the tab.

  • problem with customized destination path

    during installation i'm giving an option to user to change the default installation dir. Once this is done, installation goes fine and installs in the user specific location. But when i use INSTALLDIR to modify few registry entries, INSTALLDIR is having old, default values but not the user specified. This is happening to only one package and i couldn't find the reason. Any help will save my time. i use installshield 12 on win2k3 x86. ~calvin

    Hi, I'd like to display a number of forms via a ModelFormSet where each one of the forms displays in turn InlineFormSets for all objects connected to the object. Now I'm not really sure how to provide the instances for each ModelFormSet.     In ruby you can throw a rescue at the end of an assignment to catch any errors that might come up. I have a function (below: a_function_that_may_fail) where it's convenient to let it throw an error if certain conditions aren't met. The following code works well post = {} # Other Hash stuff post['Caption'] = a_function_that_may_fail rescue nil However I'd like to have post['Caption'] not even set if the function fails. I know I can do: begin post['Caption'] = a_function_that_may_fail recsue end but that feels a little excessive - is there a simpler solution?

  • How to make qmail to feed email into shell command?

    Hi, I have some server running qmail, with many users/domains configured via plesk. I would like to get emails from specified address delivered to one of my users being feed to shell command, as addition to normal delivery. So, basically, I have some shell script, and I'd like qmail to invoke my script with the email, and the continued with delivery as usual. If necessary, I can do recipient/sender filterind on script side, though it could be more efficient and cleaner, if qmail would feed only correct emails to my script. Anyway, how to accomplish that?

  • Don't speak to the DBA while he/she is doing the job?!

    Our DBA was very busy today, he helped out our developers to write efficient code,explained to the programmer how to launch the old DTS package on SQL Server 2005 and etc. You know how it is, someone comes in and asking the question and you answer the question at the same time you are busy to do something. So  today answering one of such questions he deleted by mistake very ctitical database. Fortunately, we had zero data loss,thanks to our backup/recovery strategy. I think that is acceptable to say that you are busy right now ,please ask the question later on, what do you think?   • How to return the full file path in a C# / ASP.NET web application?

    This should be really simple, but I have tried many solutions posted on the internet so I thought I'd give this a try here. I have a VS 2008 web application that I need to capture the full file path (directories and file name) from the selected file. So user selects a file and then clicks on one of the buttons which transfers control to my code for processing. So how do I get the file path? I can get the file name, but not the path. Thanks!

  • why message box is always hidden behind main dialog and cannot be shown on the top

    I am using MFC to write a GUI application. I chose dialog-based application, and put picture control, edit box and buttons on it. When the picture control is mapped to the class derived from CWnd using DDX_Control, all the message boxes (including default system message box pop up when you enter invalid input in the edit box) are hidden behind main dialog until you use "alt + tab" to bring them to front. If I map the picture control to the default CStatic class, the above problem disappeared. Do anyone has some hints to solve this problem? Thank you in advance for any help.
