  • Suppress unhandled exception dialog?

    I'm handling all of my unhanded exception in the code but whenever one happens (not during debugging) I get my error window and as soon as it closes "Unhandled application exception has occurred in your application" window pops up. How do I suppress it? PS : I am not using ASP.NET , I'm using Windows Forms

  • `which python` points to the python I want, but `python` runs the wrong version

    I want to use python24 provided by ports, so I've installed it, and python_select -s shows that the version I want is indeed selected. Running which python gives /opt/local/bin/python, and running /opt/local/bin/python gives me the version I want. However when I run python from the shell, I get the /usr/bin/python version instead. I don't have a python alias. Here's the situation in a nutshell: I believe the path is set up sensibly, and which python seems to confirm this. alias only returns 1 entry, which is something unrelated to this. Nevertheless, running python from the bash shell gives me the wrong python! I'm kind of stumped! What am I overlooking?

  • Creative ways to punish (or just curb) laziness in coworkers

    Like the subject suggests, what are some creative ways to curb laziness in co-workers? By laziness I'm talking about things like using variable names like "inttheemplrcd" instead of "intEmployerCode" or not keeping their projects synced with SVN, not just people who use the last of the sugar in the coffee room and don't refill the jar. So far the two most effective things I've done both involve the core library my company uses. Since most of our programs are in VB.net the lack of case sensitivity is abused a lot. I've got certain features of the library using Reflection to access data in the client apps, which has a negligible performance hit and introduces case sensitivity in a lot places where it is used. In instances where we have an agreed standard which is compromised by blatant laziness I take it a step further, like the DatabaseController class which will blatantly reject any DataTable passed to it which isn't named dtSomething (ie- must begin with dt and third letter must be capitalised). It's frustrating to have to resort to things like this but it has also gradually helped drill more attention to detail into their heads. Another is adding some code to the library's initialisation function to display a big and potentially embarrassing (only if seen by a client) message advising that the program is running in debug mode. We have had many instances where projects are sent to clients built in debug mode which has a lot of implications for us (especially with regard to error recovery) and doing that has made sure they always build to release before distributing. Any other creative (ie- not StyleCop etc) approaches like this?

  • Matching several items inside one string with preg_match_all() and end characters

    I have the following code: preg_match_all('/(.*) \((\d+)\) - ([\d\.\d]+)[,?]/U', "E-Book What I Didn't Learn At School... (2) - 3525.01, FREE Intro DVD/Vid (1) - 0.15", $match); var_dump($string, $match); and get the following ouput: array(4) { [0]=> array(1) { [0]=> string(54) "E-Book What I Didn't Learn At School... (2) - 3525.01," } [1]=> array(1) { [0]=> string(39) "E-Book What I Didn't Learn At School..." } [2]=> array(1) { [0]=> string(1) "2" } [3]=> array(1) { [0]=> string(7) "3525.01" } } which matches only one items... what i need is to get all items from such strings. when i've added "," sign to the end of the string - it worked fine. but that is non-sense in adding comma to each string. Any advice?

  • Visual Assist X: curly braces are moving during refactoring

    I use Visual Assist X, build from 05.01.2009, but the same problem occurred in the previous releases as well. (I run it on MSVS 2005) When I do some refactoring (like extracting a method), everything's fine, but all the curly braces move forward. For example, before refactoring the code looked like this: while (expr) { doSmth(); } After refactoring: while (expr) { doSmth(); } So, I need to move manually all the brackets. Sure, the problem is minor, but it becomes annoying when you do a lot of refactoring. Is it a bug or just default settings? So, does anyone know a workaround?

  • Question about functional OOP style in JavaScript

    I prefer to use functional OOP style for my code (similar to the module pattern) because it helps me to avoid the "new" keyword and all problems with the scope of "this" keyword in callbacks. But I've run into a few minor issues with it. I would like to use the following code to create a class. namespace.myClass = function(){ var self = {}, somePrivateVar1; // initialization code that would call // private or public methods privateMethod(); self.publicMethod(); // sorry, error here function privateMethod(){} self.publicMethod = function(){}; return self; } The problem is that I can't call public methods from my initialization code, as these functions are not defined yet. The obvious solution would be to create an init method, and call it before "return self" line. But maybe you know a more elegant solution? Also, how do you usually handle inheritance with this pattern? I use the following code, butI would like to hear your ideas and suggestions. namespace.myClass2 = function(){ var self = namespace.parentClass(), somePrivateVar1; var superMethod = self.someMethod; self.someMethod = function(){ // example shows how to overwrite parent methods superMethod(); }; return self; } Edit.   • Is there a complete working example of a unit tested JPA2/CDI/JSF2 WebApp without EJBs ?

    Hello everyone, I want to build a web app in JPA2/CDI (without EJBs) and i get how to code the different beans (i worked for some time on seam/jpa apps), but i'm stuck because i can't find a complete working set of configuration files (ie : persistence.xmln web.xml and stuff), and there is always a little glitch or something i miss. My goal is to develop a simple CRUD (1 or 2 pages) but unit tested, for future use, as a code base. So if you already did this kind of mini project, or if you know where i can find a working example, that would be great if you could help me. Thanks

  • fopen / fopen_s and writing to files

    Hi, I'm using fopen in C to write the output to a text file. Consider using fopen_s instead. I haven't see much information on fopen_s so that I can change my code. Any suggestions? Can one instruct fprintf to write at desired precision? If I'm using long double then I assume that my answers are good till 15 digits after the decimal point. Am I right? Thanks a lot...

  • ::LookupAccountSid API Extremely Slow When Targetting x64 Platform (Windows 7)

    During our application startup, we are making a call to ::LookupAccountSid(). When I build targetting the x86 architecture, this call is nearly instantaneous. However, when I target x64 (debug or release), the call generally takes over 40s to complete. Since this is occurring during application startup, the result is fairly unpleasant as it will appear to the user that the application is not launching. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a Dell Studio XPS 16 (Intel Core i7 Q 720). Our application is a native Windows application written in C++.   • HTML 5: Is it <br> <br/> or <br />?

    I've tried checking other answers, but I'm still confused--especially after seeing W3schools HTML 5 reference. I thought HTML 4.01 was supposed to "allow" single-tags to just be <img> and <br>. Then XHTML came along with <img /> and <br /> (where someone said that the space is there for older browsers). Now I'm wondering how I'm supposed to format my code when practicing HTML 5. <!DOCTYPE HTML> Is it <br>, <br/> or <br />?

    Let's say there is a B-tree of order 8. This means it can have 8 pointers and 7 elements. Say the letters A through G are stored in this B-tree. So this B-tree is just a single node containing 7 elements. Then you try to insert J into the tree. There's no room, so you have to split the node and create a new root node. Which element gets promoted up into the root node?

  • MSVC 2008 - Unresolved External errors with LIB but only with DLL, not with EXE project

    I have a DLL that I am trying to link with a libjpeg LIB using MSVC 2008 that is generating Unresolved External Symbol errors for the libjpeg functions. I also have a test project that links with the exact same libjpeg library file and links without error and runs fine too. I have triple-checked my LIB path and dependent LIBS list settings and literally copy and pasted them from the EXE project to the DLL project. I still get the errors. I do have the libjpeg include headers surrounded by extern "C" so it is not a name mangling issue and the unresolved external warnings show the "missing" libjpeg functions as undecorated (just a leading underscore and the @ sign parameter byte count suffix after each name). What could make the linker with the DLL project be unable to find the functions properly when the test EXE project has no trouble at all? I'm using the pre-compiled 32-bit static multi-threaded debug library which I downloaded from ClanLib. Thanks, Robert

  • Stretch and Scale a CSS image Background - With CSS only

    Good day. I always wanted to do this. I want that my background image stretch and scale depending the Browser view port size. I've seen some questions on SO that do the job, this One for example. Works well, but i want place the img in the background way, not with a image tag. In that one is placed a img tag, then with CSS we tribute to the img tag. width:100%; height:100%; It works, but that question is a bit old, and states that in CSS3 resizing a background image will work pretty well. I've tried this example the first one but i didn't workout for me. Does somebody know a good method to do it with the background image statement? If its sounds confusing just ask. Thanks

  • Mysql gem troubles with Snow Leopard upgrade

    I have done everything that is on the web (i think) i have the new 64 bit xcode that came with snow leopard installed completely removed mysql, removed gems compeltely, removed rails installed mysql 64 bit, installed gems, installed mysql gem with the env ARCHFLAGS set I still get this nasty NameError: uninitialized constant MysqlCompat::MysqlRes from /Users/Navara/Sites/tuosystems/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:440:in `load_missing_constant' from /Users/Navara/Sites/tuosystems/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:80:in `rake_original_const_missing' from /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.7/lib/rake.rb:2503:in `const_missing' Im not sure how to debug this.. any pointers will be greatly appreciated!

  • Logging from symfony's model layer

    I'm currently working on a project with symfony 1.4 and Doctrine 1.2. I'm looking for a proper way to do logging from the model layer. In some model classes I use the record hook postSave() to create a ZIP file using exec() (since PHP zip doesn't provide for storage method 'Stored'). To be sure that everythings works fine I check the return code and log an error if something goes wrong. My first naive approach was to do it like this: if ($returnCode != 0) { sfContext::getInstance()->getLogger()->debug(...); } As you know, this doesn't work so well because sfContext belongs to the controller layer and shouldn't be used from the model layer. My next try was to use the model's constructor to pass in an sfLogger instance, but this doesn't work due to Doctrine 1.2 reserving the constructor for internal use (Doctrine 1.2 Documentation). I'm looking forward for your suggestions!

  • POSIX threads and signals

    I've been trying to understand the intricacies of how POSIX threads and POSIX signals interact. In particular, I'm interested in: What's the best way to control which thread a signal is delivered to (assuming it isn't fatal in the first place)? What is the best way to tell another thread (that might actually be busy) that the signal has arrived? (I already know that it's a bad idea to be using pthread condition variables from a signal handler.) For reference about why I want this, I'm researching how to convert the TclX package to support threads, or to split it up and at least make some useful parts support threads. Signals are one of those parts that is of particular interest.

  • Logical value of an assignment in C

    while (curr_data[1] != (unsigned int)NULL && ((curr_ptr = (void*)curr_data[1]) || 1)) Two part question. What will (curr_ptr = (void*)curr_data[1]) evaluate to, logically. TRUE? Also, I know its rather hack-ish, but is the while statement legal C? I would have to go through great contortions to put the assignment elsewhere in the code, so I'd be really nice if I could leave it there, but if it's so egregious that it makes everyone's eyeballs burst into flames, I'll change it.
