  • Weird graphical artefacts on OS X Snow Leopard.

    Since a couple of days I experience some strange graphical artefacts on Snow Leopard. Usually after a certain uptime, the background image would show some strange colours at some place. This could be reverted by reloading the background image. But the problem would appear again after rebooting (and waiting for an indefinite time). Sometimes, the shadow of windows would also have some artefacts; and this time the application switcher is completely distorted. Any ideas where I need to search for a solution of the problem? Edit: Model: MacBook Gen. 3.1 / all updates installed Update: After not having used Safari for a while, the problem has not occurred anymore (at least not after 20 days of uptime). Could well be that the problem had its origin in Safari or a Safari-related plugin. (Possibly Flash or Click-to-Flash as it did not happen with both deactivated, though the running time with this configuration might have been to short to be of any validity.)

  • Help creating image from LVM

    I need to duplicate CentOS hard drive image for multiple stations. The HD has the following layout: Disk /dev/sdb: 250GB Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B Partition Table: msdos Number Start End Size Type File system Flags 1 32.3kB 107MB 107MB primary ext3 boot 2 107MB 250GB 250GB primary lvm I saved /dev/sdb1 to file with fsarchiver but for sdb2 I get: /fsarchiver savefs an2.fsa /dev/sdb2 oper_save.c#1006,filesystem_mount_partition(): can't detect and mount filesystem of partition [/dev/sdb2], cannot continue. removed an2.fsa Although fsarchiver probe simple correctly detects sdb2 as LVM2_member. Is fsarchiver correct tool for this job? What's wrong? I'm on Ubuntu 9.1 with fsarchiver 0.6.8 and lvm tools installed. Thanks.

    An easy way to tell CVS to ignore these directories is to create a file named .cvsignore (note the leading period) in your top-level source directory Has anyone verified this with vss? Plus,does vss have these similar command lines: * To refresh the state of your source code to that stored in the the source repository, go to your project source directory, and execute cvs update -dP. * When you create a new subdirectory in the source code hierarchy, register it in CVS with a command like cvs add {subdirname}. * When you first create a new source code file, navigate to the directory that contains it, and register the new file with a command like cvs add {filename}. * If you no longer need a particular source code file, navigate to the containing directory and remove the file. Then, deregister it in CVS with a command like cvs remove {filename}. * While you are creating, modifying, and deleting source files, changes are not yet reflected in the server repository. To save your changes in their current state, go to the project source directory and execute cvs commit. You will be asked to write a brief description of the changes you have just completed, which will be stored with the new version of any updated source file.

  • Can we decrease page swapping?

    My system has a 5GB RAM. And my paging file size is 2GB Even though I have many RAM, page-swapping still occurs. But I don't want to swapping. If I resize the paging file size(ex 200MB?), Doesn't Windows System do any swapping? Are there side-effects?

    I've got an XElement deep within a document. Given the XElement (and XDocument?), is there an extension method to get its full (i.e. absolute, e.g. /root/item/element/child) XPath? E.g. myXElement.GetXPath()? EDIT: Okay, looks like I overlooked something very important. Whoops! The index of the element needs to be taken into account. See my last answer for the proposed corrected solution.

  • Good patterns for loose coupling in Java?

    Hello. I'm new to java, and while reading documentation so far i can't find any good ways for programming with loose coupling between objects. For majority of languages i know (C++, C#, python, javascript) i can manage objects as having 'signals' (notification about something happens/something needed) and 'slots' (method that can be connected to signal and process notification/do some work). In all mentioned languages i can write something like this: Object1 = new Object1Class(); Object2 = new Object2Class(); Connect( Object1.ItemAdded, Object2.OnItemAdded ); Now if object1 calls/emits ItemAdded, the OnItemAdded method of Object2 will be called. Such loose coupling technique is often referred as 'delegates', 'signal-slot' or 'inversion of control'. Compared to interface pattern, technique mentioned don't need to group signals into some interfaces. Any object's methods can be connected to any delegate as long as signatures match ( C++Qt even extends this by allowing only partial signature match ). So i don't need to write additional interface code for each methods / groups of methods, provide default implementation for interface methods not used etc. And i can't see anything like this in Java :(. Maybe i'm looking a wrong way?

  • How can I deploy my .NET app to Amazon EC2?

    I have a .NET Windows service and a .NET Web Application that I would like to deploy to my Amazon EC2 Windows 2008 instances. At this point, all I need to do is to copy the zipped files across to the EC2 box and remote desktop to the EC2 instance and finish the deployment. In order to do this, I have tried LogMeIn Hamachi2 to create a P2P VPN and use RoboCopy to copy the files, however it seems Hamachi doesn't work on Windows EC2. What is your solution for deploying your .NET apps to Windows EC2 instances? I want to avoid running an FTP server on the box just to get my files up on the server and don't have a VPN server (like OpenVPN) running to run a cloud based VPN solution. Perhaps I can find a simple way of using Amazon S3 as a strategy? Any ideas? Suggestions?

  • Slow performance with MVC2 DisplayFor

    I'm iterating through a collection on my view model. The collection contains HealthLifeDentalRates which implement IBeginsEnds. I have a Display Template BeginsEnds that displays the date range. This results in very slow performance. If I simply the date range (see commented code), it's fine.   • I have 5 links that open the same modalpopup?

    I have 5 links that are on the same form but I would like them all to reference the same AJAX modalpopup extender. I am basically showing a panel with the same view layout with just different data depending on which link is pressed, showing different match scores from games. The only way I can get it to work is have 5 panels with unique names and each link references its own panel. Can I get all the links to call one panel? Thanks

  • Use Session state within pLinq queries

    Hi, I have a fairly simple Linq query (simplified code): dim x = From Product In lstProductList.AsParallel Order By Product.Price.GrossPrice Descending Select Product Product is a class. Product.Price is a child class and GrossPrice is one of its properties. In order to work out the price I need to use Session("exchange_rate"). So for each item in lstProductList there's a function that does the following: NetPrice=NetPrice * Session("exchange_rate") (and then GrossPrice returns NetPrice+VatAmount) No matter what I've tried I cannot access session state. I have tried HttpContext.Current - but that returns Nothing. I've tried Implements IRequiresSessionState on the class (which helps in a similar situation in generic http handlers [.ashx]) - no luck. I'm using simple InProc session state mode. Exchange rate has to be user specific. What can I do? I'm working with: web development, .Net 4, VB.net Step-by-step: page_load (in .aspx) dim objSearch as new SearchClass() dim output = objSearch.renderProductsFound() then in objSearch.renderProductsFound: lstProductList.Add(objProduct(1)) ... lstProductList.Add(objProduct(n)) dim x = From Product In lstProductList.AsParallel Order By Product.Price.GrossPrice Descending Select Product In Product.Price.GrossPrice Get : return me.NetPrice+me.VatAmount In Product.Price.NetPrice Get: return NetBasePrice*Session("exchange_rate") Again, simplified code, too much to paste in here.   • CakePHP counterCache

    I'm using counterCache to track the number of chapters that have been posted to their related stories. This all works fine, apart from the fact that when the chapter_count field in the database gets updated, the modified field for that record does not. Is there any way that I can set Cake to automatically update the modified field when the counterCache functionality runs? Thank you.

  • Why SVN makes read-only my files after check out or update?

    Working with an standard configuration of the server, without any lock, my files are read-only after every check out or update to the working copy. I have to set them to be not read-only to continue working, but besides this shouldn't be happening, it's uncomfortable. Anybody knows how to avoid this behavior?

Back in ASP.NET WebForms, I'd occasionally use a positional parameter in a query string if I only had to pass one thing to a page. For example: http://localhost/site/MyPage.aspx?ABCD1234 Then my code would look like this: string accountNumber = ""; if (Request.QueryString.Count > 0) accountNumber = Request.QueryString[0]; In MVC, can you pass a positional query string parameter to a controller method instead of accessing it through Request.QueryString?
