• jQuery: ajax polling plugin alternative (instead of PeriodicalUpdater?)

  Hi, I'm trying to poll a script every few seconds. The script will return a timestamp, and if this timestamp is different from the previous (the first time is always true since it's comparing with nothing), then do something. Thing is PeriodicalUpdater seems to work fine for me. But I read that JSON.parse does not work in IE<8. I'm therefore hoping there's another alternative that would support more browsers out there? Is there another plugin that can do ajax polling? Thanks!

• Synchronizing Access to a member of the ASP.NET session

  I'm building a Javascript application and eash user has an individual UserSession. The application makes a bunch of Ajax calls. Each Ajax call needs access to a single UserSession object for the user. Each Ajax call needs a UserSession object. Data in the UserSession object is unique to each user. Originally, during each Ajax call I would create a new UserSession object and it's data members were stored in the ASP.NET Session. However, I found that the UserSession object was being instantiated a lot. To minimize the construction of the UserSession object, I wrapped it in a Singleton pattern and sychronized access to it. I believe that the synchronization is happening application wide, however I only need it to happen per user. I saw a post here that says the ASP.NET cache is synchronized, however the time between creating the object and inserting it into the cache another Thread could start construction it's another object and insert it into the cache. Here is the way I'm currently synchronizing access to the object. • How can I programmatically add triggers to an ASP.NET UpdatePanel?

  I am trying to write a quote generator. For each product, there are a set of options. I want to dynamically add a drop down list for each option, and then have their SelectedIndexChanged events all wired up to update the quote cost. I am not having any trouble adding the DropDownList controls to my UpdatePanel, but I can't seem to wire up the events. After the page loads, the drop downs are there, with their data, but changing them does not call the SelectedIndexChanged event handler, nor does the QuoteUpdatePanel update. • Problem running Thinking Sphinx with Rails 2.3.5

  Hi, I just installed Sphinx (distro: archlinux) downloading the source. Then I installed "Thinking Sphinx" plugin for Rails. I followed the official page setup and this Screencast from Ryan Bates, but when I try to index the models it gives me this error: $ rake thinking_sphinx:index (in /home/benoror/Dropbox/Proyectos/cotizahoy) Sphinx cannot be found on your system. • How should I generate the partitions / pairs for the Chinese Postman problem?

  I'm working on a program for class that involves solving the Chinese Postman problem. Our assignment only requires us to write a program to solve it for a hard-coded graph but I'm attempting to solve it for the general case on my own. The part that is giving me trouble is generating the partitions of pairings for the odd vertices. For example, if I had the following labeled odd verticies in a graph: 1 2 3 4 5 6 I need to find all the possible pairings / partitions I can make with these vertices. I've figured out I'll have i paritions given: n = num of odd verticies k = n / 2 i = ((2k)(2k-1)(2k-2)...(k+1))/2 So, given the 6 odd verticies above, we will know that we need to generate i = 15 partitions. The 15 partions would look like: 1 2 3 4 5 6 1 2 3 5 4 6 1 2 3 6 4 5 ... 1 6 ... Then, for each partition, I take each pair and find the shortest distance between them and sum them for that partition. The partition with the total smallest distance between its pairs is selected, and I then double all the edges between the shortest path between the odd vertices (found in the selected partition). These represent the edges the postman will have to walk twice. At first I thought I had worked out an appropriate algorithm for generating these partitions / pairs but it is flawed. I found it wasn't a simple permutation/combination problem. Does anyone who has studied this problem before have any tips that can help point me in the right direction for generating these partitions?

  Hello, I often find myself in the following situation. Say I was editing a file with this contents \begin{itemize} \item \end{itemize} I really like http://stackoverflow.com ! And say the point was after the word \item. What I want to do is select http://stackoverflow.com , C-w it, and go back to \item, and yank it there. What I would do is C-s htt and that would bring the point to the 2nd t of http, and from there I would go backwards, C-SPC on h, then select the rest of the word. Now, I would like to use something like C-x C-x to bring me back to \item, but it will instead bring me back to the h of http. Is there a command like C-x C-x which brings the point back through its history of location? Thanks,

My current script already counts the number of li-elements in #gallery, loads the first 9 images and displays them.   Hi , It's 3 days I'm trying to install SqlServer 2005 under Windows 7 64 bit on my computer. First let me tell you what I've done and what I've got till now . 1-I Installed Windows 7 64 Bit on my computer 2-I tried to install SQl Server 2005 "Developer Edition" 2.1 But in "System Configuration Check" Page i recieved 2 warning , One for "IIS Feature Requirement" and another for "ASP.NET Version Registration Rquired" . 2.1.1 . I installed "Internet Information Services" from "Turn Windows features on or off" section in control panel 2.1.2 I Enabled reporting service 32 bit from "Inetpub= AdminScripts = adsutil.vbs" 2.2 At this stage There was no waring in System Configuration Check 3- So I installed SQl Server 2005 Developer Edition By all default settings 4- I installed Sql Server 2005 Service Pack 3 64 bit Now when when i run "Management Studio" There is no name in "Server name" section . I typed my Computer name Or "." and i got this Error : A network -related instance-specific error occurred while establishinga connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (Provider: Named Pipes Provider , error :40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server ) ( Microsoft SQL Server , Error :2) . I googled some for this Error and some people said follow this instruction: Startsql server 2005Configuration toolsSql Server Surface Configuration AreaSurface Area Configuration for services and Connections But i got this Error : No SQl SErver 2005 Components were found on the specified computer . Either no components are installed , or you are not a administrator on this computer (SQLSAC) I'm really tired because of that , and i don't know what's wrong with this . Some more information : I have no additonal software on my computer , like Antivirus or Proxy I tried all step with "Standard Edition" either , but no difference My user is Administrator I tried more than 5 times all those steps including re-installing Windows 7 . Please help me , I'm losing all my hair

  Hey, a few days ago my computer wouldnt boot..said something along the lines of "Please insert correct boot media and press any key" Its oldish so I tried what I could and just went out to buy new hard drive. Yesterday, installed it and it worked fine..put Windows XP onto in sp3 etc, turned on today and the same thing has happened ! Tried changing cables, remove graphics card etc, restoring bios to default but nothing works. Motherboard : Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe Ram : 2GB HD : 320gb Hitachi Any ideas? Thanks :)

  All, I am trying to make the width of the sharepoint 2010 web site to be within a fixed width and centered across the screen. I would like for it to be 800px and centered. • What does "the application failed to initialize properly" mean?

  I just got a bug report from someone running an app I wrote under Windows XP. He says it won't start up. The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application. It works fine at my end, (under Windows 7,) and I don't have any Win7- or Vista-specific stuff in the program, so it should work on XP too. How do I go about tracking this down and debugging it?
