    If I want to see which values from an Excel spreadsheet column don't match values in a table, I can easily create a table with Bulk Import. Is there a simpler way? EG, I want to do a query like: select into #temp from ('a', 'b', 'c') as 'Id' select * from #temp where Id not in (select Id from MyTable)

  • Filtering at server or at client?

    I am thinking about how to build advertise site which works like twitter. That means, most user don't not visit the site by browser, they should run a dedicated client application on their PC or smart phone. Then they set some filters about what kind of advertise they like. And when new post that fulfill their needs appear, the client will make a notification. To make that client as real time as possible, it has to poll the server within a short time interval. The problem is, should I do the filtering at the server side when client polls, or should I simply transfer all new posts to client and let client do the filtering? Making server side filtering might cause too much CPU cycles of server, but transferring every post blindly to client might waste a lot of bandwidth. Just a brain game. :)

  • MVC design question for forms

    Hi, I'm developing an app which has a large amount of related form data to be handled. I'm using a MVC structure and all of the related data is represented in my models, along with the handling of data validation from form submissions. I'm looking for some advice on a good way to approach laying out my controllers - basically I will have a huge form which will be broken down into manageable categories (similar to a credit card app) where the user progresses through each stage/category filling out the answers. All of these form categories are related to the main relation/object, but not to each other. Does it make more sense to have each subform/category as a method in the main controller class (which will make that one controller fairly massive), or would it be better to break each category into a subclass of the main controller? It may be just for neatness that the second approach is better, but I'm struggling to see much of a difference between either creating a new method for each category (which communicates with the model and outputs errors/success) or creating a new controller to handle the same functionality. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

  • In ExtJS, how do I place two fieldsets side-by-side in a panel with a hbox layout?

    In ExtJS, I'm having a little trouble placing two fieldsets side-by-side in a panel with a hbox layout. The hbox layout seems to be unaware of the fieldset's height, and cuts it off, even if I explicitly set the panel's height to something large. Here's what it looks like: The blue border is the hbox panel, and there's 2 fieldsets inside, 'Client Info' and 'Owner Info'. If you remove defaults: { flex: 1 }, the fieldsets render correctly, but doesn't automatically resize to fit the container, which is something I need.   • Problem using a public key when connecting to a SSH server running on Cygwin

    We have installed Cygwin on a Windows Server 2008 Standard server and it working pretty well. Unfortunately we still have a big problem. We want to connect using a public key through SSH which doesn't work. It always falls back to using password login. We have appended our public key to ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the server and we have our private and public key in ~/.ssh/id_dsa respective ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub on the client. When debugging the SSH login session we see that the key is offered by the server apparently rejects it by some unknown reason.   • Different Apache log file for each subdomain?

    Is it possible to configure Apache to use a different log file for each subdomain, even if all of the subdomains are within the same VirtualHost container? So, I have only one VirtualHost: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName example.com ServerAlias test1.example.com test2.example.com test3.example.com </VirtualHost> And I want to end up with the following log files: /var/log/httpd-access_test1.log /var/log/httpd-access_test2.log /var/log/httpd-access_test3.log I know I can probably do this with a custom log format and split-logs, but I was wondering if there's a way to just have Apache do it for me.

  • Why does ASP.Net rewrite relative paths for runat=server anchor controls?

    I have my UserControls in a ~/Controls folder in my solution: /Controls/TheControl.ascx If specify the following: <a runat="server" href="./?pg=1">link text</a> ASP.Net seems to want to rewrite the path to point to the absolute location. For example, If the control is on site.com/products/fish/cans.aspx the link href will be rewritten to read <a href="../../Controls/?pg=1>link text</a> Why does Asp.Net rewrite these control paths, and is there an elegant way to fix it? I just want the anchor control to spit out exactly what I tell it to!!! Is that so hard?

  • Adjust SQL query to DB2

    Part of a complex query that our app is running contains the lines: ...(inner query) SELECT ... NULL as column_A, NULL as column_B, ... FROM ... This syntax of creating columns with null values is not allowed in DB2 altough it is totally OK in MSSQL and Oracle DBs. Technically I can change it to: '' as column_A, '' as column_B, But this doesn't have exactly the same meaning and can damage our calculation results. How can I create columns with null values in DB2 using other syntax??

    Okay, I need help. I'm usually pretty good at SQL queries but this one baffles me. By the way, this is not a homework assignment, it's a real situation in an Access database and I've written the requirements below myself. Here is my table layout. It's in Access 2007 if that matters; I'm writing the query using SQL. Id (primary key) PersonID (foreign key) EventDate NumberOfCredits SuperCredits (boolean) There are events that people go to. They can earn normal credits, or super credits, or both at one event. The SuperCredits column is true if the row represents a number of super credits earned at the event, or false if it represents normal credits. So for example, if there is an event which person 174 attends, and they earn 3 normal credits and 1 super credit at the event, the following two rows would be added to the table: ID PersonID EventDate NumberOfCredits SuperCredits 1 174 1/1/2010 3 false 2 174 1/1/2010 1 true It is also possible that the person could have done two separate things at the event, so there might be more than two columns for one event, and it might look like this: ID PersonID EventDate NumberOfCredits SuperCredits 1 174 1/1/2010 1 false 2 174 1/1/2010 2 false 3 174 1/1/2010 1 true Now we want to print out a report.   • Crystal Reports - Underlay section overlays lines (drawing object)

    I have a problem with CR (version that ships with VS2008). Report has two report headers, one of them is used for watermark (a picture), using the "Underlay following sections" option. The problem is that, while this picture underlays field objects, it overlays lines in all of the sections (details, report footer etc...). Any solutions?     As I iterate through a DataTable object, I need to check each of its DataRow objects against the items in a generic string List. I found a blog post using the List's Find method along with a delegate, but whereas that example has a separate class (Person), I'm attempting something like the following using an instance of the string object: // My definition of the List object. List<string> lstAccountNumbers = new List<string>(); ... // I populate the List via its Add method. ... foreach (DataRow drCurrentRow in dtMyDataTable.Rows) { if (lstAccounts.Find(delegate(string sAccountNumber) { return sAccountNumber == drCurrentRow["AccountNumber"]; }) { Found_DoSomething(); } else { NotFound_DoSomethingElse(); } } However, with this syntax I'm receiving "Cannot implicitly convert type 'string' to 'bool'" for the if block. Could someone please clarify what I'm doing wrong and how best to accomplish what I'm trying to do?

    using LINQ to NHibernate does anybody know how to use group by and order by in the same expression.   • Any PICK programmers on stack?

    I work in a shop that is divided into two types of programmers. Programmers that code in .net & sql and programmers that code in pick. Actually, a few of the programmers are writing code in both pick and .net. I was curious if there are any pick programmers out there using StackOverflow?
