    I'm confused about the errors generated by the following code. In Derived::doStuff, I can access Base::output directly by calling it. Why can't I create a pointer to output() in the same context that I can call output()? (I thought protected / private governed whether you could use a name in a specific context, but apparently that is incomplete?)   • Echange Server 2003 Replication

    We have 2 Exchange 2003 Servers. 1 is the master and is currently hosting all the mailboxes and public stores. I would like to setup a standby exchange server that is replicating all the mailboxes and public stores from the primary exchange server. This way if the primary goes down we can default to the standby. I have searched all over for some guidance but have not been able to find anything detailing this for Exchange 2003. Any help is much appreciated.

  • Copy Office files from a Mac to a PC

    A friend of me recently dumped his Mac fpr a PC. He used Microsoft Office for Mac and has several hundred Files (Word, Excel) which were copied over to the new PC using a USB disk. Microsoft Office is now unable to read any of there files. I suspect this is because of little endian vs. big endian. Is there any tool which can converted all theses files automatically, doing this by hand would take ages.

    Does anyone know of a program/script that runs on Linux that can give us a nice GUI for browsing and managing shared system folders similar in the way that windows explorer would work?   • Moving distribution lists in Public Folders to Sharepoint Contacts?

    Now I know that if I connect to contact list in Sharepoint and drag and drop everything from the Exchange Public Folder contact list to the Sharepoint Contact list (connected through Outlook) it will transfer everything in the contact list to the sharepoint contact list. What about distribution lists? Has anyone had a workaround for this? If a contact list is full of distribution lists the Contacts won't migrate over and the Sync Issues - Local Failures folder is populated with all the distribution lists that couldn't be migrated. Is there a way to migrate distribution lists? Any ideas how to set up the contact list like a contact list of distrubition lists? How would that contact list look on sharepoint? Should I just leave the contact lists that have distribution lists on public folders?

    Hello, Normally we all do use using System.Linq; and using System.Data.Linq; for example on the code-behind and expect we can reach the members of these namespaces from Source Code like <%= Something.First()%> but when I wrote it, asp.net said it couldn't find First() in the context and I had to add <%@ Import Namespace="System.Linq" which looked very weird to me but it worked out. Since they are targeting at the same class why they both need separate namespace importing. Code-behind : using System; using System.Data.Linq; using System.Linq; using System.Text namespace Something { class Items : System.Web.UI { //... } } but also I need to add the same Linq namespace on the Html Source part <%@Import Namespace="System.Linq"%> Do I know something wrong or this is some kind of bug in asp.net. I thought when the page is compiling, asp.net combines these two classes and converts html source code into cs class and indicates the control in Control c= new Control(); hierarchy.     I have several apps in my app that can become nil at some point and I have methods that in theory are used to put these objects to nil. But, if I try to put to nil an object that does not exist, the app will crash. for example... [object1 release]; object1 = nil; //... and after that [object removeFromSuperview]; // this will crash Then I thought, why not testing to see if the object exists before removing... if (object1 != nil) [object removeFromSuperview]; // this will crash too, because object1 cannot be tested for nil because it does not exist How can I check if the object exists before testing if it is nil? something as if (object exists( { if(object != nil)) [object removeFromSuperview) } is this possible?

A robots.txt file can contain the following line: Sitemap: http://www.mysite.com/sitemapindex.xml but is it possible to specify MULTIPLE sitemap index files in the robots.txt and have the search engines recognize that and crawl ALL of the sitemaps referenced in each sitemap index file?   • Reading text files line by line, with exact offset/position reporting

My simple requirement: Reading a huge ( a million) line test file (For this example assume it's a CSV of some sorts) and keeping a reference to the beginning of that line for faster lookup in the future (read a line, starting at X). I tried the naive and easy way first, using a StreamWriter and accessing the underlying BaseStream.Position. Unfortunately that doesn't work as I intended: Given a file containing the following Foo Bar Baz Bla Fasel and this very simple code using (var sr = new StreamReader(@"C:\Temp\LineTest.txt")) { string line; long pos = sr.BaseStream.Position; while ((line = sr.ReadLine()) != null) { Console.Write("{0:d3} ", pos); Console.WriteLine(line); pos = sr.BaseStream.Position; } } the output is: 000 Foo 025 Bar 025 Baz 025 Bla 025 Fasel I can imagine that the stream is trying to be helpful/efficient and probably reads in (big) chunks whenever new data is necessary. For me this is bad.. The question, finally: Any way to get the (byte, char) offset while reading a file line by line without using a basic Stream and messing with \r \n \r\n and string encoding etc. manually? Not a big deal, really, I just don't like to build things that might exist already..

    Is there a way to learn the username of the user that has a file open? I am developing a program that will be a desktop client for many users. The application will open some files and I'd like to allow many users to open the files at the same time, but only allow the first user to have write privileges. What I want is to be able to tell the other users who has write access to a file. Is that something that can be learned by an application? (I am developing in VS 2008).

    Lets assume myProp is @property (retain) NSString * myProp and synthesized for us.... self.myProp = @"some value";//string literal? self.myProp = [NSString stringWithString:@"some value"]; Is there a difference here? Is the first one a string literal that doesnt get autoreleased or is it just in memory for it's current scope and I dont have to worry about it?
