  • Getting an exception when trying to use extension method with SortedDictionary... why?

    I'm trying to place custom objects into a sorted dictionary... I am then trying to use an extension method (Max()) on this sorted dictionary. However, I'm getting the exception: "At least one object must implement IComparable". I don't understand why I'm getting that, as my custom object obviously implements IComparable. Here is my code: public class MyDate : IComparable<MyDate> { int IComparable<MyDate>.CompareTo(MyDate obj) { if (obj != null) { if (this.Value.Ticks < obj.Value.Ticks) { return 1; } else if (this.Value.Ticks == obj.Value.Ticks) { return 0; } else { return -1; } } } public MyDate(DateTime date) { this.Value = date; } public DateTime Value; } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { SortedDictionary<MyDate, int> sd = new SortedDictionary<MyDate,int>(); sd.Add(new MyDate(new DateTime(1)), 1); sd.Add(new MyDate(new DateTime(2)), 2); Console.WriteLine(sd.Max().Value); // Throws exception!! } } What on earth am I doing wrong???

    What is your hobby website? Do you care if it has high traffic or is it more for personal satisfaction? When deciding on the features to implement are you taking in to consideration the needs of general user-base or features you really want to build? What balance do you use to keep yourself satisfied as well as your users? When do you feel your site is able to release to the world? Do you release it initially and hope for anticipatory beta group? or wait till you have a solid built set of features?

For example, if you have a banking application with high transaction rates and a lot of data in certain tables, in what types of queries would nolock be okay? Are there cases when you should always use it/never use it?

  • Excel Macros - Too many line continuations

    Hi, I have a "large" sql query (like 200 lines)... dim query as string query = "..................................." & _ "..................................." & _ .... Like a lot lines later... "..................................." function query,"sheet 1" When i do this, excel says "Too many line continuations." What is the best way, to avoid this? Thanks for your help.

    Hello, everybody. I'm here to ask if any of you know how to develop an app for Mac OS X that keeps reading everything the user types in. An example of app that implements this behavior is Text Expander. Text Expander reads everything the user types in, searching for abbreviations previously added on it. When one of this abbreviations is found, Text Expander replace the abbreviation form for the entire content related to that abbreviation. So, I would like to know what resource of Objective-C or Cocoa let you do this kind of stuff. P.S.: Just to mention, I'm not thinking about developing something like a key logger. I'm just curious and thinking about at developing a snippet platform.

  • Call C (exposed) function from COBOL program

    Hi, Some time ago, I had created a DLL to be used in another C program. Basically I exposed specific functions by using the following within my dll: void __declspec(dllexport) MyFunc(myFirstArg, mySecondArg); Then I added an external file (MyExposedDll.h) with all exposed functions and structures to the new C program and included it: include MyExposedDll.h Now how can I use this dll (or mainly a dll) to a Cobol function? I need to expose a function that has two char* arguments and returns a boolean. Thanks, Sun

  • Can I improve performance by refactoring SQL commands into C# classes?

    Currently, my entire website does updating from SQL parameterized queries. It works, we've had no problems with it, but it can occasionally be very slow. I was wondering if it makes sense to refactor some of these SQL commands into classes so that we would not have to hit the database so often. I understand hitting the database is generally the slowest part of any web application For example, say we have a class structure like this: Project (comprised of) Tasks (comprised of) Assignments Where Project, Task, and Assignment are classes. At certain points in the site you are only working on one project at a time, and so creating a Project class and passing it among pages (using Session, Profile, something else) might make sense. I imagine this class would have a Save() method to save value changes. Does it make sense to invest the time into doing this? Under what conditions might it be worth it?

  • How to detect browser's protocol handlers?

    I have created a custom URL protocol handler. http:// mailto:// custom:// I have registered a WinForms application to respond accordingly. This all works great. But I would like to be able to gracefully handle the case where the user doesn't have the custom URL protocol handler installed, yet. In order to be able to do this I need to be able to detect the browser's registered protocol handlers, I would assume from JavaScript. But I have been unable to find a way to poll for the information. I am hoping to find a solution to this problem. Thanks for any ideas you might be able to share.

  • What does "?ref=ts" mean in a FACEBOOK APP url

    When Facebook drives traffic to an app, they often append &ref=whatever to the query string. This is useful for figuring out which integration points are working or not. I've figured out what some of these mean. For example: ref=bookmarks - the user clicked on a bookmark. ref=game_my_recent - the user clicked on the upper portion of the games dashboard. Does anyone know what "ref=ts" means? It accounts for a ton of traffic. I've viewed source on pages all over common FB pages and cannot find a match for ant piece of content generated by any of my apps.   • Does System.Web.mail (CDonts) issue smtp quit commands?

    .net System.Net.Mail does not issue SMTP quit commands in version 3.5 or lower. Although the problem is fixed in .net v4.0 RTM, unfortunately v4.0 cannot handle attachments in an email larger than 3-4MB's so I can't use it in my solution. I was thinking of maybe rolling back to the now outdated CDonts found in System.Web.Mail. Can anyone confirm if CDonts mailing routines explicitly issues SMTP Quit commands?

  • WPF - Pausing the UI Thread?

    I have a tab control with draggable tabs. When the mouse is released it removes the selected tab from the tabControl and adds it to its new location. My problem is that the TabControl draws itself after removing the tab, and then again when adding the tab so there is a very noticeable flicker that shows the tab behind the tab being moved. Is there a way I can pause the UI thread so the tab control does not redraw until both the Remove and the Insert operations finish? Or perhaps some other alternative way of rearranging the tab items? The Drag/Drop operation exists in a separate code file as an Attached Property

  • HP DL380 reboot problems

    I have recently installed RHEL 5.3 on a HP DL 380 G5. Then I installed HP's PSP(Proliant Support Pack). Since then I cannot reboot the system anymore. The system just stays in "Broadcast message from root (tty0). The system is going for reboot NOW" Neither halt, poweroff, reboot nor init 6 works.

  • Print jobs sent to server OK, but then get deleted

    I have 2 HP computers, one running Win XP SP3, one running Win7. I have a Lexmark X4270 All-in-One printer attached to the Win7 machine via a USB port. I can print OK from the Win 7 machine, but when I print from the WinXP machine, the print job shows up in both print queues (showing the same number of bytes - which is good!), but then the status gets changed to "Deleting - Sent to printer", and that status shows up in both print queues. The print job then stays there until I do a cancel, followed by a system restart. FWIW the owner is shown as Guest, but I have permission for Everyone set to print... I believe I have up-to-date drivers; I don't believe it's a firewall problem. What I would like to see is the Win7 machine's reason for deleting my print jobs - is there a diagnostic tool available? Also, I notice that the port for this printer on the WinXP machine is set to USB001 - I would have thought something like \servername\sharedprinter would be more appropriate - and I can see that in the list of ports, but the system doesn't let me change the port name from USB001... Could someone shed some light? I have spent hours on this! TIA BTW I can do file sharing, no problem!

I think I need what is called a "persistant install", so that Lubuntu will run off of my flash drive and any changes made will stay there, unlike the demo feature of the CD.

  • Using Nortel Netdirect on Windows 7 64bit

    Does anyone know how to use Nortel Netdirect (Version 7.1.3.0) with Windows 7 64 bit (Home Premium)? There are several ways available to me for connecting, all of which work for me on a 32-bit XP machine: Nortel Contivity VPN client (v6_02.022). The installer appears to be 16-bit, so I can't even install it on a 64-bit machine. Web-based SSL via IE Web-based SSL via Firefox The Web-based SSL process is supposed to load Netdirect and start it up, establishing the VPN connection. Using Firefox, I'm able to authenticate with my smartcard, but when it tries to download the applet, the process stops with a message box saying that it couldn't download the zip file. If I run Firefox in Vista compatibility mode, it gets a little farther, and manages to start Netdirect, but then exits after notifying me that the netdirect adapter was not installed.
