  • What happened to GremCheck? Is there a viable replacement?

    I was a big fan of an app called "GremCheck" that was out a while back, that seems to have disappeared. It was a JavaScript included in a master page that placed an icon at the bottom of the page. It was used during testing. You could define your own tests, and the box could pop up per page and viewers would answer the questions you define (such as "Does this page have the correct title?", "Is the Grammar Correct", "Does the design look consistent"). This was useful for end-user tests groups and quick testing for developers if time was squeezed on full functional testing. Anyone know where GremCheck went, if I can get to it, and if there's anything out there that does something similar?

  • Is there an alternative to the skype service?

    On ubuntu 13.04 Skype segfaults constantly (I've read a couple of threads about fixing the issue and it is kind of works now expect it segfaults every time chat message comes in) so I'm thinking it is time to find it a replacement. Which one should I choose? Ok, I've seen previous post, yet only one answer in it highlights some alternatives. Also I want no the alternative skype client, but the whole ecosystem. The one alternative presented ooVoo does not support linux and other goober shows unresolved dependency: libglew1.5

  • MSI Installer error 2203; how to force permissions on installer directory?

Feel free to let me know where it best belongs.] Hi all, I'll try to bullet-point to keep it short: Background / Issue Trying to install ASP.NET MVC 3 RC on my Windows 7 machine. Uninstalled other versions of MVC (2 and 3 Beta 1). Ran the installer -- got a generic error, 2203. Log files said that it was a permissions error on C:\Windows\Installer. Checked C:\Windows\Installer -- sure enough, it's marked as read-only. I un-checked "Read-Only" in the folder properties and applied. It appears to open the dialog and apply to all files. However, when clicking properties again, the read-only box is backed to checked. Checked the security tab of the folder -- both system and the Administrators group have full access. I checked ownership -- the Administrators group is listed as an owner. Verified that I'm in the system as an Administrator (in fact, the only account in the Administrators group besides Administrator). So, what gives? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

    The Scenario I've got an iMac G5 20" (First All-In-One White Screen) PPC. It has an Airport Extreme Network card in order to wirelessly to connect to the internet. For the most part I connect using ethernet as opposed to wirelessly, but recently have had the need to connect using the wireless. The Hardware BT Home Broadband Wireless Router. iMac G5 20" From about 5 years ago (First All-In-One White Screen) The Issue Even though I know for a fact that It has connected to the internet wireslessly in the past, for some reason it can discover the wireless router, but upon entering the password it fails to connect. I have tried multiple times to no avail. I have 2 other Mac's on the network and a pc that can all connect wirelessly. However both the mac's. Question Any ideas as to why my really old iMac G5 can't connect wirelessly anymore!?

  • Steps after installing vCenter Server?

    I'm working with: Two new ESX servers that I'm configuring A new Server 2008 R2 machine that I'm using for vCenter. I took the following steps: Installed the Hypervisor on the 2 ESX machines Checked their setup/connectivity (appears to be fine; can ping, etc.) Installed vCenter Server on the Win2k8R2 box. This included the install of a SQL Express database (we're a small shop) FYI, I changed some of the ports (443 -- 8443, 80 --8080, etc.) Installed vCenter Web Client Server on the Win2k8R2 box Problems my vSphere Client on my Desktop fails to connect. Part of this is that it asks me for a username and password, but I don't recall specifying one when I set up the install. I receive the error "vSphere Client could not connect to [machinename]. An unknown connection error occurred. (The request failed because of a connection failure. (Unable to connect to the remote server))" I have also tried to use local machine admin credentials, including the format machinename\localuseracct. I have also tried using my domain credentials which are an admin for that box. I have also checked and the service is running. I also tried to connect via vSphere client locally installed on the server. It translates "localhost" to the correct name but gives the same error. I cannot register the vCenter server from the vCenter Web Client Server. I'm not sure if this is necessary, as they're both on the same machine, but it seems like the logical next step. I also receive a "failed to connect" error in this case as well. FYI, both the vCenter server and the vCenter Web Client Server are installed on the same Win2k8R2 server. What am I missing here? What is the best way to test in this case?

  • Windows 7 Natively on Mac OS X Bootcamp, Airport Wifi Unable To Connect....

    Hello! I am using a brand new MacBook Pro. I am running a copy of Windows 7 natively via bootcamp (No use of Virtual Machine Software at all). However the only way I can get Windows to connect to the internet is via ethernet, as opposed to the Macs Airport card picking up the wireless. It just refuses to connect, and gives me a limited access status. Any ideas!? I've run Windows XP natively via bootcamp and I had a few issues with the network constantly dropping out, however I blamed that on the drivers and the general shiteness of XP.... Help greatly appreciated.

  • How Can I Point My Local Testing Server at My GitHub Repository?

    Up until a few days ago, I had a particular setup that was as follows. Using SVN, all of the websites that I developed were committed to a source control drop box on a local testing server. Then using IIS, a new website was set up to point at the last revision of each particular website I developed and display it to the outside world using a specific URL. I have just moved over to using git and github, meaning all of my source controlled code is now no longer stored on a local testing server. As a result of this, I am not sure how I can go about doing a similar thing to what I did with the SVN setup, however I need to be able to essentially have that same setup again, just using Git. So basically, how can I go about getting my local testing server to point at the GitHub repository for that site? Help greatly appreciated.

    Background I'm on a new VMWare install consisting of: 1 vCenter Server (containing inventory service, SSO, vCenter server, and web client server) 2 ESX Servers configured in a HA group Problem When a I view the summary for any one of my servers, I receive a notice: "" This is expected in our scenario and we're okay with it. Attempted Solutions As I understand from this article and this discussion, the proper way to remove the error message is to ignore it via setting the "das.ignoreRedundantNetWarning" propery to "true". I took the following steps: Logged into vCenter Right-clicked on my HA cluster and chose "Edit Settings..." Clicked "vSphere HA" section Clicked "Advanced Options..." Added the "das.ignoreRedundantNetWarning" option with a value of "true". Question How do I get this error to go away, and are there any reasons why adding this option may not have worked?   • vCenter 5.1 SSO Configuration option not available in Web Client?

    Problem I just finished separately installing vCenter Server 5.1. I installed the components separately but on the same machine using a local SQL 2008 R2 DB (not SQL express). Everything appears to be working correctly with the exception of SSO. It doesn't find the AD server. This is to be expected (see below) but I don't know how to fix it. Potential Leads / Steps taken During the install of SSO, I was logged on as a local administrator (waiting on central IT dept to create a service account). As a result, I received a message saying that SSO wouldn't be able to automatically locate the AD. (fair eonugh) After I read up on it a little bit, I believed I could go into the SSO Configuration option in the Web client, like so: However, what I actually see is: I also notice that the "SSO Users and Groups" entry is not there. Betting that has something to do with it as well. Question How can I get the "Configure" Option to show up for SSO? Overall goal: How can I manually enter the AD server in this scenario while logged in as a local administrator?   • Intel Rapid Storage / Smart Response SSD caching issue

    Background Recently built my own PC. It works! Almost. It's been a while since getting into the guts of these things, so I'm familiar but may be missing something simple. FYI, I don't care about blowing the OS away -- it's brand new and we can go back from scratch as many times as necessary. Goal / Issue I'd like to use the SSD to take advantage of Intel's Smart Response technology (allows the SSD to act as a cache for HDDs) I would like the SSD cache to act as a cache for my HDDs, which I would like to be in a RAID1 array (so I get the speed from the SSD and the redundancy from the RAID1) However, Windows only sees the drive in device manager (not as a drive), so I'm unsure what to do about that. Related: as far as I know, for this to work, the drives all have to be in a single RAID array (i.e. a RAID0 pairing of the SSD and the RAID1 HDD array). However, when attempting this at the BIOS level, I am told there is not enough space for an array. Steps so Far Moved the SSD onto the Intel controller (I'd had it on the Marvel 6.0 controller instead of the Intel controller, so the BIOS was only seeing it in a strange way) Updated the BIOS of the motherboard to the latest version Reinstalled Intel's RST (iRST?) software several times, as some forums reported it working after reinstalling 3 times (which does not inspire confidence). Checked Intel storage: it does see the SSD as a physical, non-RAID device. However, it says no space exists if I try to create an array. Checked the BIOS: it does not show up in the boot order, but is an option that can be selected under boot options. Tried the firmware update for that model. Issue: the firmware CD doesn't detect a drive; maybe the Intel storage controller is making it difficult? moved the ssd to the marvel controller. The firmware update cd appeared to hang while searching for drives. swapped out the SATA cable for the manufacturer's and moved back to the intel storage controller. Noticed at this point that in the Intel RST software, a device DOES show up in addition to the RAID set -- only shown as a "60 GB internal disk". Windows doesn't appear to see it as a drive, but it does still show in device manager. Move SSD to port from 0-3 on MOBO and set SATA mode to IDE (after disconnecting RAID1 config) to allow the firmware update to work. Firmware was already at the latest version. Next Steps ? Components involved ASUS P8Z68-V PRO motherboard (Intel Z68 Chipset) Intel i7 2600k Processor 2 x 1TB 7200 RPM HDDs 64 GB Crucial M4 SSD (M4-CT064M4SSD2) For Reference -- Storage Configuration Intel 3 gbps Intel 3gbps Intel 6gbps Marvel 6gbps +----------+ +----------+ +----------+ +----------+ | | <----+ | | +-+ | | | |----------| | |----------| |-|--------| |----------| | | | | + | | | | | | +----------+ | +--|-------+ +-|--------+ +----------+ | | | + v v | 1 TB HDD 64 GB SSD + +> 1 TB HDD For Reference -- Intel RST (v10.8.0.1003) Screenshot Don't mind the "rebuilding" -- knocked a power cable out at one point; it's doing its job, not an indicator of a bad HDD.   • Apache mod_proxy_html Substitute: how to re-use part of regex match? (regex variables?)

    Hi all, Have a unique URL-rewriting situation in Apache. I need to be able to take a URL that starts with "\u002f[X]" or '\u002f[X]" Where X is the rest of some URL, and substitute the text "\u002fmeis2\u002f[X] I'm not sure how the Regex works in Apache -- I think it's the same as Perl 5? -- but even then I'm a little unsure how this would be done. My hunch is that it has to do with Regex grouping and then using $1 to pull the variable out, but I'm entirely unfamiliar with this process in Apache. Hoping someone can help -- thanks!

  • ESXi 5.1 on Poweredge 510 freezes after base-esx update

    Background / Problem Just experienced an issue where an ESXi host was upgraded from 5.0 -- 5.1 perfectly fine. Then, I did a scan and remediated a patch (ESXi510-201210401-BG) Looking into the host on via the kvm switch, this appears to complete successfully. However, on reboot, the server hangs at the "Initializing Power Management" phase. I've read from various spots around the internet that this usually clears itself up again upon a cold boot, but given that our servers are in a different building with different access rules, the less I have to physically go there, the better. :) Question Is there anything I can do to avoid an ESXi host hanging at the "initialize power management" phase of boot after remediating the host to apply patches?

  • Setting Up Git Repository on Remote Windows Server?

    I have a windows server which I can access locally or remotely over the internet through remote desktop connection, etc. I want to set up a git repository (something similar to "trunk" in subversion), that can contain a series of repositories for multiple projects. Does anyone know how I go about doing this? I want to do it using a GUI if possible. I have followed this Git Bash Tutorial but it's very long winded and not exactly what I'm after. I'm using a Git client called MSYSGIT. Using this I just want to be able to set up remote repositories and start committing source code. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Outlook 2010: How do I mark one recurring event public?

    My office utilizes Outlook 2010 and Exchange for e-mail, and our calendars show free/busy information by default. Background I work from home once a week, so I have created an event that lists me as tentative for the entire workday, titled "Working from Home - Available Remotely". However, those attempting to schedule a meeting with me won't see this title, and therefore won't think they can schedule an event. As much as I'd like to get out meetings (!) it's important that folks be able to schedule with me. Question Is there a way to make the title/details public for this one recurring event so that when others attempt to schedule a meeting with me, Attempted Solutions I've tried creating a public calendar and sharing all the details of that calendar. However, all of my calendars are not included when someone wants to schedule with me, and so I'm shown as free unless someone specifically looks at my public calendar. I've Googled around, to no avail.

  • 1 iPhone, 2 (potentially 3) Macs......& Google Apps Sync?!

    Currently I use a beast of a G5 Mac at work for all my software/web development, an iMac G5 at home for personal use & a MacBook Pro for when i'm on the go. At work we make heavy use of all the Google Apps features such as calendar & docs etc. We all have an address book (local mac application) that gets synced with a list of contacts stored on our mail server. I want to be able to integrate the Google Apps calendar with my iPhone calendar (or even just iCal - which i can then sync to the iPhone). Essentially I want all three Macs to have the Google calendar synced to their version of iCal including the iPhone. I've heard that Google Sync handles something along these lines but i'm unsure if it's going to fulfill my needs? I'm trying my best to avoid having to use MobileMe.....   • New PC: win7 install issues with 2x3TB in RAID1

    Background / Components Not sure what I've done wrong. Built one PC before successfully in a similar way but this one seems to be struggling. I have the following components: ASUS P8Z68-V/Pro Gen 3 (updated to latest firmware) 16GB (2x8GB) RAM corsair hx850 power supply 2x3TB drives on the intel z68 controller 1x128GB SSD on the Marvel controller sapphire 7950 The problem I set up my 3 TB disks in RAID1 controller appears to recognize them fine during boot as one 2.7TB raid1 volume windows setup sees two disks, both 746 GB, but will only let me install to one and appears to work fine. windows appears to install fine after installer reboots, I receive "windows failed to start" error referencing code 0xc000000e and "\Windows\system32\winload.exe every time I do an install, a new additional "win7" entry is added to the boot menu; all lead to this error. What I've tried: updated the BIOS to the latest firmware attempted to repair the install tried clearing / removing raid / re-raiding drives tried formatting the drives during install attempted to clear the menu Of entries (can't figure out how to do that) No matter how many times I destroy the raid array, format the disks, etc. the boot entries keep piling up. Any idea where I'm going wrong?

  • How to diagnose issue between mobo, RAID, and SSD cache drive? [migrated]

    Background This issue is happening on my custom-built desktop. Relevant specs: Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Utilizing Intel RST technology (application that uses unused SSD as cache) Processor: Intel core i7-2600k (not overclocked) HDDs: RAID1 of 2x Seagate Barracuda 1TB (ST31000524AS) (RAID performed via z68 chipset) Machine has run fine for ~1 year with no issues, and has been well-maintained (dust, etc.) What Happened Random Freezing issues -- intermittent Looked at the RST application screen to see that the acceleration cache was listed as "unavailable" -- recommended that I power down and reconnect the drive. Reconnected the drive to no avail. Attempted to move the drive to another SATA port. Acceleration option disappeared from RST software. Now, the freeze happens whenever loading something particularly data-driven (a video, a game, etc.) Steps Attempted Reconnected the drive to no avail. Updated Intel RST software to v. 11.6.0.1030 to see if that made a difference. Attempted to move the drive to another SATA port. Acceleration option disappeared from RST software. Connected the drive as its own volume. Formatted it, ran disk check errors -- all seems fine. Reconnected the drive and selected it again as the cache drive. Now, what happens when there is a freeze: Machine freezes I am unable to perform any command Screen then goes black I hit the reset button During boot, all drives show as "Disabled" and I am told no volume can be found I then hit the reset button (or power off/on) again. Either the next time (or sometimes after repeating this once more), the metadata cache is reconstructed and the system boots fine, showing the SSD as a cache. Question I believe this is an issue with the SSD itself, but how can I be sure since connecting it separately appeared to show no problems? I want to make sure it's not an issue with the motherboard, SATA ports, etc.

  • C# DataSet CheckBox Column With DevExpress DataGrid

    Scenario I have a DevExpress DataGrid which is bound to a DataSet in C#. I want to populate each dataset row to contain a string in the first column and a checkbox in the second. My code below doesn't work quite how I want it to, and I'm not sure why..... The Code As you can see I've declared a dataset, but when I try and pass in a new checkbox object to the 2nd column it just displays the system name for the checkbox. DataSet prodTypeDS = new Dataset(); DataTable prodTypeDT = prodTypeDS.Tables.Add(); prodTypeDT.Columns.Add("MurexID", typeof(string)); prodTypeDT.Columns.Add("Haganise",typeof(CheckBox)); //WHY DOES THIS NOT WORK? //(Displays "System.Windows.Forms.CheckBox, CheckState: 0") //Instead of a checkbox.
