  • Alright to truncate database tables when also using Hibernate?

    - by Marcus
    Is it OK to truncate tables while at the same time using Hibernate to insert data? We parse a big XML file with many relationships into Hibernate POJO's and persist to the DB. We are now planning on purging existing data at certain points in time by truncating the tables. Is this OK? It seems to work fine. We don't use Hibernate's second level cache. One thing I did notice, which is fine, is that when inserting we generate primary keys using Hibernate's @GeneratedValue where Hibernate just uses a key value one greater than the highest value in the table - and even though we are truncating the tables, Hibernate remembers the prior value and uses prior value + 1 as opposed to starting over at 1. This is fine, just unexpected. Note that the reason we do truncate as opposed to calling delete() on the Hibernate POJO's is for speed. We have gazillions of rows of data, and truncate is just so much faster.

  • Python Copy Through Assignment?

    - by Marcus Whybrow
    I would expect that the following code would just initialise the dict_a, dict_b and dict_c dictionaries. But it seams to have a copt through effect: dict_a = dict_b = dict_c = {} dict_c['hello'] = 'goodbye' print dict_a print dict_b print dict_c As you can see the result is as follows: {'hello': 'goodbye'} {'hello': 'goodbye'} {'hello': 'goodbye'} Why does that program give the previous result, When I would expect it to return: {} {} {'hello': 'goodbye'}

  • How to check if two types can be compared, summed etc.?

    - by Marcus
    Hi, if given two types (Type a, Type b), is there any "nice" way to find out if those two can be compared, summed etc.? I was thinking if the types implement IConvertible, one could convert both to lets say decimal and perform a "Convert.ToDecimal(a) > Convert.ToDecimal(b)" ? I am building an expression evaluator and want to be able to work with any kind of object and thus need to know if a type can be compared to another type (it DOESN'T have to be the same types on both sides. eg. double > int)

  • Java "compare cannot be resolved to a type" error

    - by King Triumph
    I'm getting a strange error when attempting to use a comparator with a binary search on an array. The error states that "compareArtist cannot be resolved to a type" and is thrown by Eclipse on this code: Comparator<Song> compare = new Song.compareArtist(); I've done some searching and found references to a possible bug with Eclipse, although I have tried the code on a different computer and the error persists. I've also found similar issues regarding the capitalization of the compare method, in this case compareArtist. I've seen examples where the first word in the method name is capitalized, although it was my understanding that method names are traditionally started with a lower case letter. I have experimented with changing the capitalization but nothing has changed. I have also found references to this error if the class doesn't import the correct package. I have imported java.util in both classes in question, which to my knowledge allows the use of the Comparator. I've experimented with writing the compareArtist method within the class that has the binary search call as well as in the "Song" class, which according to my homework assignment is where it should be. I've changed the constructor accordingly and the issue persists. Lastly, I've attempted to override the Comparator compare method by implementing Comparator in the Song class and creating my own method called "compare". This returns the same error. I've only moved to calling the comparator method something different than "compare" after finding several examples that do the same. Here is the relevant code for the class that calls the binary search that uses the comparator. This code also has a local version of the compareArtist method. While it is not being called currently, the code for this method is the same as the in the class Song, where I am trying to call it from. Thanks for any advice and insight. import java.io.*; import java.util.*; public class SearchByArtistPrefix { private Song[] songs; // keep a direct reference to the song array private Song[] searchResults; // holds the results of the search private ArrayList<Song> searchList = new ArrayList<Song>(); // hold results of search while being populated. Converted to searchResults array. public SearchByArtistPrefix(SongCollection sc) { songs = sc.getAllSongs(); } public int compareArtist (Song firstSong, Song secondSong) { return firstSong.getArtist().compareTo(secondSong.getArtist()); } public Song[] search(String artistPrefix) { String artistInput = artistPrefix; int searchLength = artistInput.length(); Song searchSong = new Song(artistInput, "", ""); Comparator<Song> compare = new Song.compareArtist(); int search = Arrays.binarySearch(songs, searchSong, compare);

  • Registering a Named Function as a Listener with Jquery

    - by Marcus
    I'm new to javascript/jquery and I've done some poking around the web, but I can't figure out why the following is invalid: var toggleSection = function(sectionName) { // Do some Jquery work to toggle stuff based on sectionName string // (concatenate sectionName with other text to form selectors) }; $('#togglecont1').click(toggleSection("container1")); Is there something obvious I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

  • How do I add the j2ee.jar to a Java2WSDL ant script programmatically?

    - by Marcus
    I am using IBM's Rational Application Developer. I have an ant script that contains the Java2WSDL task. When I run it via IBM, it gives compiler errors unless I include the j2ee.jar file in the classpath via the run tool (it does not pick up the jar files in the classpath in the script). However, I need to be able to call this script programmatically, and it is giving me this error: "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org.eclipse.core.runtime.CoreException" I'm not sure which jars need to be added or where? Since a simple echo script runs, I assume that it is the j2ee.jar or another ant jar that needs to be added. I've added it to the project's buildpath, but that doesn't help. (I also have ant.jar, wsanttasks.jar, all the ant jars from the plugin, tools.jar, remoteAnt.jar, and the swt - all which are included in the buildpath when you run the script by itself.) Script: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <project default="build" basedir="."> <path id="lib.path"> <fileset dir="C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\lib" includes="*.jar"/> <!-- Adding these does not help. <fileset dir="C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP70Shared\plugins\org.apache.ant_1.6.5\lib" includes="*.jar"/> <fileset dir="C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP70\jdk\lib" includes="*.jar"/> <fileset dir="C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP70\configuration\org.eclipse.osgi\bundles\1139\1\.cp\lib" includes="*.jar"/> <fileset dir="C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP70Shared\plugins" includes="*.jar"/> --> </path> <taskdef name="java2wsdl" classname="com.ibm.websphere.ant.tasks.Java2WSDL"> <classpath refid="lib.path"/> </taskdef> <target name="build"> <echo message="Beginning build"/> <javac srcdir="C:\J2W_Test\Java2Wsdl_Example" destdir="C:\J2W_Test\Java2Wsdl_Example"> <classpath refid="lib.path"/> <include name="WSExample.java"/> </javac> <echo message="Set up javac"/> <echo message="Running java2wsdl"/> <java2wsdl output="C:\J2W_Test\Java2Wsdl_Example\example\META-INF\wsdl\WSExample.wsdl" classpath="C:\J2W_Test\Java2Wsdl_Example" className= "example.WSExample" namespace="http://example" namespaceImpl="http://example" location="http://localhost:9080/example/services/WSExample" style="document" use="literal"> <mapping namespace="http://example" package="example"/> </java2wsdl> <echo message="Complete"/> </target> </project> Code: File buildFile = new File("build.xml"); Project p = new Project(); p.setUserProperty("ant.file", buildFile.getAbsolutePath()); DefaultLogger consoleLogger = new DefaultLogger(); consoleLogger.setErrorPrintStream(System.err); consoleLogger.setOutputPrintStream(System.out); consoleLogger.setMessageOutputLevel(Project.MSG_INFO); p.addBuildListener(consoleLogger); try { p.fireBuildStarted(); p.init(); ProjectHelper helper = ProjectHelper.getProjectHelper(); p.addReference("ant.projectHelper", helper); helper.parse(p, buildFile); p.executeTarget(p.getDefaultTarget()); p.fireBuildFinished(null); } catch (BuildException e) { p.fireBuildFinished(e); } Error: [java2wsdl] java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org.eclipse.core.runtime.CoreException [java2wsdl] at java.lang.J9VMInternals.verifyImpl(Native Method) [java2wsdl] at java.lang.J9VMInternals.verify(J9VMInternals.java:68) [java2wsdl] at java.lang.J9VMInternals.initialize(J9VMInternals.java:129) [java2wsdl] at com.ibm.ws.webservices.multiprotocol.discovery.ServiceProviderManager.getDiscoveredServiceProviders(ServiceProviderManager.java:378) [java2wsdl] at com.ibm.ws.webservices.multiprotocol.discovery.ServiceProviderManager.getAllServiceProviders(ServiceProviderManager.java:214) [java2wsdl] at com.ibm.ws.webservices.wsdl.fromJava.Emitter.initPluggableBindings(Emitter.java:2704) [java2wsdl] at com.ibm.ws.webservices.wsdl.fromJava.Emitter.<init>(Emitter.java:389) [java2wsdl] at com.ibm.ws.webservices.tools.ant.Java2WSDL.execute(Java2WSDL.java:122) [java2wsdl] at org.apache.tools.ant.UnknownElement.execute(UnknownElement.java:275) [java2wsdl] at org.apache.tools.ant.Task.perform(Task.java:364) [java2wsdl] at org.apache.tools.ant.Target.execute(Target.java:341) [java2wsdl] at org.apache.tools.ant.Target.performTasks(Target.java:369) [java2wsdl] at org.apache.tools.ant.Project.executeSortedTargets(Project.java:1216) [java2wsdl] at org.apache.tools.ant.Project.executeTarget(Project.java:1185) [java2wsdl] at att.ant.RunAnt.main(RunAnt.java:32)

  • Do we need HyperJAXB generated hashCode & equals methods?

    - by Marcus
    We've generated some (well a lot) of classes using HyperJAXB. All of the classes implement Equals and HashCode and have the implementation style below. Appears this code is never executed.. is there any particular reason we need this code? I'm looking to simplify the classes if we can. public boolean equals(Object object) { if (!(object instanceof MyClass)) { return false; } if (this == object) { return true; } final EqualsBuilder equalsBuilder = new JAXBEqualsBuilder(); equals(object, equalsBuilder); return equalsBuilder.isEquals(); } public void hashCode(HashCodeBuilder hashCodeBuilder) { hashCodeBuilder.append(this.getValue()); hashCodeBuilder.append(this.getId()); } public int hashCode() { final HashCodeBuilder hashCodeBuilder = new JAXBHashCodeBuilder(); hashCode(hashCodeBuilder); return hashCodeBuilder.toHashCode(); }

  • Error in glmmadmb(.....) The function maximizer failed (couldn't find STD file)

    - by Joe King
    This works fine: fit.mc1 <-MCMCglmm(bull~1,random=~school,data=dt1,family="categorical", prior=list(R=list(V=1, fix=1), G=list(G1=list(V=1, nu=0))), slice=T) So does this: fit.glmer <- glmer(bull~(1|school),data=dt1,family=binomial) But now I am trying to work with the package glmmadmb and this does not work: fit.mc12 <- glmmadmb(bull~1+(1|school), data=dt1, family="binomial", mcmc=TRUE, mcmc.opts=mcmcControl(mcmc=50000)) It generates the error: Error in glmmadmb(bull~ 1 + (1 | school), data = dt1, family = "binomial", : The function maximizer failed (couldn't find STD file) In addition: Warning message: running command '<snip>\cmd.exe <snip>\glmmadmb.exe" -maxfn 500 -maxph 5 -noinit -shess -mcmc 5000 -mcsave 5 -mcmult 1' had status 1

  • Mocking a non-settable child property with Rhino Mocks

    - by Marcus
    I currently have interfaces much like the following: interface IService { void Start(); IHandler ServiceHandler { get; } } interface IHandler { event EventHandler OnMessageReceived; } Using Rhino Mocks, it's easy enough to mock IService, but it doesn't assign any IHandler instance to the ServiceHandler property. Therefore when my method under test adds an event handler to _mockedService.ServiceHandler.OnMessageReceived, I get an 'Object reference not set' error. How can I ensure that ServiceHandler is assigned a value in the mocked IService instance? This is likely Rhino Mocks 101, but I'm just getting up to speed on it...

  • Storing expression references to data base

    - by Marcus
    I have standard arithmetic expressions sotred as strings eg. "WIDTH * 2 + HEIGHT * 2" In this example WIDTH and HEIGHT references other objects in my system and the literals WIDTH and HEIGHT refers to a property (Name) on those objects. The problem I'm having is when the Name property on an expression object changes the expression won't match anymore. One solution I came up with is to instead of storing "WIDTH * 2 + HEIGHT * 2" i store "{ID_OF_WIDTH} * 2 + {ID_OF_HEIGHT} * 2" And let my parser be able to parse this new syntax and implement an interface or such on referenced objects IExpressionReference { string IdentifierName { get; } } Anyone have a better/alternative solution to my problem?

  • How to view Mercurial changeset changes using a GUI diff tool

    - by Marcus
    We use both Examdiff and Kdiff3 to view Mercurial changes. Just add this to .hgrc: [extdiff] cmd.kdiff3 = cmd.examdiff = C:\Program Files\ExamDiff Pro\ExamDiff.exe And then you can type hg examdiff or hg diff3 to see a complete diff of all your changes. What I would like is to do the same to see a "before and after" of files for a given changeset that was checked in by someone else. I know you can type hg log to see all changesets and then hg log -vprXX to see a text diff, but that's too hard for my GUI preferring eyes. Anyone know how to the equivalent with the GUI tools?

  • Regular expression of unicode characters on string

    - by Marcus King
    I'm working in c# doing some OCR work and have extracted the text I need to work with. Now I need to parse a line using Regular Expressions. string checkNum; string routingNum; string accountNum; Regex regEx = new Regex(@"\u9288\d+\u9288"); Match match = regEx.Match(numbers); if (match.Success) checkNum = match.Value.Remove(0, 1).Remove(match.Value.Length - 1, 1); regEx = new Regex(@"\u9286\d{9}\u9286"); match = regEx.Match(numbers); if(match.Success) routingNum = match.Value.Remove(0, 1).Remove(match.Value.Length - 1, 1); regEx = new Regex(@"\d{10}\u9288"); match = regEx.Match(numbers); if (match.Success) accountNum = match.Value.Remove(match.Value.Length - 1, 1); The problem is that the string contains the necessary unicode characters when I do a .ToCharArray() and inspect the contents of the string, but it never seems to recognize the unicode characters when I parse the string looking for them. I thought strings in C# were unicode by default.

  • Best application for process flow with expandable attributes

    - by Marcus
    I am looking for the best software application to do the following I have a set of use cases that are in relationship to each other. I want to show an overview of this relationship. If the user desires the attributes for each use case (such as business rules, data elements, etc) should be expandable. This is potentially a large map which is the reason why the attributes should be expandable / collapsable. Finally all this needs to be printable. Any idea of the ideal application to do this? Thanks a lot in advance

  • JAXB - representing an element as a boolean member?

    - by Marcus
    We have this XML: <Summary> <ValueA>xxx</ValueA> <ValueB/> </Summary> <ValueB/> will never have any attributes or inner elements. It's a boolean type element - it exists (true) or it doesn't (false). JAXB generated a Summary class with a String valueA member, which is good. But for ValueB, JAXB generated a ValueB inner class and a corresponding member: @XmlElement(name = "ValueB") protected Summary.ValueB valueB; But what I'd like is a boolean member and no inner class: @XmlElement(name = "ValueB") protected boolean valueB; How can you do this? I'm not looking to regenerate the classes, I'd like to just make the code change manually.

  • Why does "request.getUserPrincipal().getName()" sometimes return a blank string?

    - by Marcus
    Has somebody an idea, why the getName method of the requests getUserPrincipal Method sometimes provides an empty String? Most of the time it returns the correct user name but not every time. This behaviour does occur randonmly. I can start the application, run the command and it works. The next time I start the application and run the command (exactly the same way as before!) it does not work... Any ideas?

  • Multiprogramming in Django, writing to the Database

    - by Marcus Whybrow
    Introduction I have the following code which checks to see if a similar model exists in the database, and if it does not it creates the new model: class BookProfile(): # ... def save(self, *args, **kwargs): uniqueConstraint = {'book_instance': self.book_instance, 'collection': self.collection} # Test for other objects with identical values profiles = BookProfile.objects.filter(Q(**uniqueConstraint) & ~Q(pk=self.pk)) # If none are found create the object, else fail. if len(profiles) == 0: super(BookProfile, self).save(*args, **kwargs) else: raise ValidationError('A Book Profile for that book instance in that collection already exists') I first build my constraints, then search for a model with those values which I am enforcing must be unique Q(**uniqueConstraint). In addition I ensure that if the save method is updating and not inserting, that we do not find this object when looking for other similar objects ~Q(pk=self.pk). I should mention that I ham implementing soft delete (with a modified objects manager which only shows non-deleted objects) which is why I must check for myself rather then relying on unique_together errors. Problem Right thats the introduction out of the way. My problem is that when multiple identical objects are saved in quick (or as near as simultaneous) succession, sometimes both get added even though the first being added should prevent the second. I have tested the code in the shell and it succeeds every time I run it. Thus my assumption is if say we have two objects being added Object A and Object B. Object A runs its check upon save() being called. Then the process saving Object B gets some time on the processor. Object B runs that same test, but Object A has not yet been added so Object B is added to the database. Then Object A regains control of the processor, and has allready run its test, even though identical Object B is in the database, it adds it regardless. My Thoughts The reason I fear multiprogramming could be involved is that each Object A and Object is being added through an API save view, so a request to the view is made for each save, thus not a single request with multiple sequential saves on objects. It might be the case that Apache is creating a process for each request, and thus causing the problems I think I am seeing. As you would expect, the problem only occurs sometimes, which is characteristic of multiprogramming or multiprocessing errors. If this is the case, is there a way to make the test and set parts of the save() method a critical section, so that a process switch cannot happen between the test and the set?

  • What is natural deduction used for outside of academia?

    - by Danny King
    Hello, I am studying natural deduction as a part of my Formal Specification & Verification Computer Science course at University/College. I find it interesting, however I learn much better when I can find a practical use for things. Could anyone explain to me if and how natural deduction is used other than for formally verifying bits of code? Thanks!

  • Windows Service doesn't start process with different credentials

    - by Marcus
    I have a Windows Service, running as a user, that should start several processes under different user credentials. I'm using the following code to start a process: Dim winProcess As New System.Diagnostics.Process With winProcess .StartInfo.Arguments = "some_args" .StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True .StartInfo.ErrorDialog = False .StartInfo.FileName = "C:\TEMP\ProcessFromService\ProcessFromService\bin\Debug\ProcessFromService.exe" .StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False .StartInfo.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden 'Opgave WorkingDirectory kan soms tot problemen leiden, indien betreffende directory 'niet bereikbaar (rechten) is voor opgegeven gebruiker. 'Beter dus om deze niet op te geven. '.StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.Temp .StartInfo.Domain = "" .StartInfo.UserName = "MyUserId" Dim strPassword As String = "MyPassword" Dim ssPassword As New Security.SecureString For Each chrPassword As Char In strPassword.ToCharArray ssPassword.AppendChar(chrPassword) Next .StartInfo.Password = ssPassword .Start() End With The process is correctly started when I use the same credentials as of which the Windows Service is running under. The process is not started, without any error, when I use different credentials. In other words: If the Windows Service is running as UserA then I can start a process running as UserA. If the Windows Service is running as UserB then I can not start a process running as UserA. I have created a test project in which I can reproduce this problem. If you put this project in C:\Temp then the used paths will be correct. You can download this test project here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5391091/ProcessFromService.zip NB: I hope this info is enough to explain it. If you need more info, please let me know and I will add it.

  • SQL Server 2008 - Script Data as Insert Statements from SSIS Package

    - by Brandon King
    SQL Server 2008 provides the ability to script data as Insert statements using the Generate Scripts option in Management Studio. Is it possible to access the same functionality from within a SSIS package? Here's what I'm trying to accomplish... I have a scheduled job that nightly scripts out all the schema and data for a SQL Server 2008 database and then uses the script to create a "mirror copy" SQLCE 3.5 database. I've been using Narayana Vyas Kondreddi's sp_generate_inserts stored procedure to accomplish this, but it has problems with some datatypes and greater-than-4K columns (holdovers from SQL Server 2000 days). The Script Data function looks like it could solve my problems, if only I could automate it. Any suggestions?
