  • TestNG - Factories and Dataproviders

    - by Tim K
    Background Story I'm working at a software firm developing a test automation framework to replace our old spaghetti tangled system. Since our system requires a login for almost everything we do, I decided it would be best to use @BeforeMethod, @DataProvider, and @Factory to setup my tests. However, I've run into some issues. Sample Test Case Lets say the software system is a baseball team roster. We want to test to make sure a user can search for a team member by name. (Note: I'm aware that BeforeMethods don't run in any given order -- assume that's been taken care of for now.) @BeforeMethod public void setupSelenium() { // login with username & password // acknowledge announcements // navigate to search page } @Test(dataProvider="players") public void testSearch(String playerName, String searchTerm) { // search for "searchTerm" // browse through results // pass if we find playerName // fail (Didn't find the player) } This test case assumes the following: The user has already logged on (in a BeforeMethod, most likely) The user has already navigated to the search page (trivial, before method) The parameters to the test are associated with the aforementioned login The Problems So lets try and figure out how to handle the parameters for the test case. Idea #1 This method allows us to associate dataproviders with usernames, and lets us use multiple users for any specific test case! @Test(dataProvider="players") public void testSearch(String user, String pass, String name, String search) { // login with user/pass // acknowledge announcements // navigate to search page // ... } ...but there's lots of repetition, as we have to make EVERY function accept two extra parameters. Not to mention, we're also testing the acknowledge announcements feature, which we don't actually want to test. Idea #2 So lets use the factory to initialize things properly! class BaseTestCase { public BaseTestCase(String user, String password, Object[][] data); } class SomeTest { @Factory public void ... } With this, we end up having to write one factory per test case... Although, it does let us have multiple users per test-case. Conclusion I'm about fresh out of ideas. There was another idea I had where I was loading data from an XML file, and then calling the methods from a program... but its getting silly. Any ideas?

  • adding two variables together

    - by James Trusler
    I have been trying for... about 4 hours now lmao. currentCalc returns 50 currentSum returns 0 when i alert them. Yet I cannot add them together with parseInt???? what am i doing wrong :'( var identRow = $('tr.identRow'); identRow.each( function(){ var getIdentClass = $(this).attr('class').split(' ').slice(1); $('tr.ohp' + getIdentClass + ' td.EURm').each( function(index){ var currentCalc = parseInt($(this).text().replace('.',''), 10); var currentSum = $('tr.' + getIdentClass + ' td.totalEURm', this).text().replace('.',''); total = parseInt(currentCalc, 10) + parseInt(currentSum, 10); $('tr.' + getIdentClass + ' td.totalEURm').text(total); if (index==6){ alert(total); } } ); } );

  • Making an efficient algorithm

    - by James P.
    Here's my recent submission for the FB programming contest (qualifying round only requires to upload program output so source code doesn't matter). The objective is to find two squares that add up to a given value. I've left it as it is as an example. It does the job but is too slow for my liking. Here's the points that are obviously eating up time: List of squares is being recalculated for each call of getNumOfDoubleSquares(). This could be precalculated or extended when needed. Both squares are being checked for when it is only necessary to check for one (complements). There might be a more efficient way than a double-nested loop to find pairs. Other suggestions? Besides this particular problem, what do you look for when optimizing an algorithm? public static int getNumOfDoubleSquares( Integer target ){ int num = 0; ArrayList<Integer> squares = new ArrayList<Integer>(); ArrayList<Integer> found = new ArrayList<Integer>(); int squareValue = 0; for( int j=0; squareValue<=target; j++ ){ squares.add(j, squareValue); squareValue = (int)Math.pow(j+1,2); } int squareSum = 0; System.out.println( "Target=" + target ); for( int i = 0; i < squares.size(); i++ ){ int square1 = squares.get(i); for( int j = 0; j < squares.size(); j++ ){ int square2 = squares.get(j); squareSum = square1 + square2; if( squareSum == target && !found.contains( square1 ) && !found.contains( square2 ) ){ found.add(square1); found.add(square2); System.out.println( "Found !" + square1 +"+"+ square2 +"="+ squareSum); num++; } } } return num; }

  • Adapting methods which return true/false

    - by James P.
    What's the best practise when adapting C-style functions which return a true/false to Java? Here's a simple method to illustrate where the problem lies. public static boolean fileNameEndsWithExtension( String filename, String fileExtension) { return filename.endsWith( fileExtension ); } Note that there's probably a more elegant way of filtering files (feel free to comment on this). Anyway, if filename is a null value, does one: Return a false if filename is null? If so, how does one go about distinguishing between the case where filename is null and the case where the String or file name doesn't end with a given file extension? Change the return type to the wrapper class Boolean which allows a null value. Throw an Exception and force the programmer to make sure that a null value is never passed to the method? Use another solution?

  • jQuery Dialog theme not being applied

    - by Tim
    I'm using jquery-1.4.2.min.js and jquery-ui-1.8.1.custom.min.js. According to Firebug, both minimized scripts have been loaded. They both appear in the dropdown list on Firebug's Scripts tab. The dialog is launching, but there's no background and so the text below it shows through, and there's no "window" stuff at all, no titlebar, no X button. Just the floating/draggable text with a -close- link at the top left corner. I was under the impression from reading these pages http://jqueryui.com/demos/dialog/ http://jqueryui.com/themeroller/ that the UI theme-driven appearance would be automatically applied to the dialog when it was invoked using this barebones call: $('#dialog').dialog() I would be grateful for suggestions on how to troubleshoot this. Thanks

  • possible to constrain jQuery resize to x or y axis, like drag constrain?

    - by Tim
    This jQuery lets you constrain drag movement so it occurs only on the axis specified: $("#draggable2").draggable({ axis: 'x' }); See: http://jqueryui.com/demos/draggable/#constrain-movement This is not legal jQuery but I wish it were: $("#Container").resizable({ minHeight: 150, containment: {axis:'y' } }); Is it possible to prevent the user from making #Container wider while allowing her to make it taller? Thanks

  • Code refactoring c# question around several if statements performing the same check

    - by James Radford
    I have a method that has a load of if statements that seems a bit silly although I'm not sure how to improve the code. Here's an example. This logic was inside the view which is now in the controller which is far better but is there something I'm missing, maybe a design pattern that stops me having to check against panelCount < NumberOfPanelsToShow and handling the panelCount every condition? Maybe not, just feels ugly! Many thanks if (model.Train && panelCount < NumberOfPanelsToShow) { panelTypeList.Add(TheType.Train); panelCount++; } if (model.Car && panelCount < NumberOfPanelsToShow) { panelTypeList.Add(TheType.Car); panelCount++; } if (model.Hotel && panelCount < NumberOfPanelsToShow) { panelTypeList.Add(TheType.Hotel); panelCount++; } ...

  • Handling null values with PowerShell dates

    - by Tim Ferrill
    I'm working on a module to pull data from Oracle into a PowerShell data table, so I can automate some analysis and perform various actions based on the results. Everything seems to be working, and I'm casting columns into specific types based on the column type in Oracle. The problem I'm having has to do with null dates. I can't seem to find a good way to capture that a date column in Oracle has a null value. Is there any way to cast a [datetime] as null or empty?

  • Vim syntax/compile-time error highlighting

    - by Tim Nordenfur
    Is there a Vim script that periodically tries to compile/interpret the code that I'm working on, and highlights syntax errors? I'd like it to point out that something is wrong between these lines: int a = 42 cout << a << endl; Such a thing would save me loads of time. I'm primarily searching for a Perl-syntax checker, but I'd also be interested in similar plugins for other languages. Update: Another error I'd like it to point out: int a == 42; cout << a << endl;

  • Centering fonts in VB6

    - by James Musser
    How do you determine the length of a string of text in Arial Bold font, and then center it in VB6? If not here, can you point me in a direction where I might be able to find this information? We're not using a "label" or "picture box" do print the text to the screen. We are sizing the text on the fly, and allowing the user to scale the size of our application to their liking. We write the text to screen using code.

  • messages stuck permanently in session

    - by Tim Whitlock
    I am getting Drupal messages stuck permanently in session, so that after being displayed they are not cleared. The unsetting code in function drupal_get_messages in bootstrap.inc is firing - It's as if the session is sleeping (i.e. serializing to disk) before the messages array is cleared. Have you witnessed such a thing? UPDATE The call that commits the session starts from drupal_page_footer at the bottom of index.php - for some reason this is executing twice per request! once with the emptied messages and then again with the messages back in the array.

  • FileNotFoundException when cropping a photo

    - by James G
    I'm trying to crop a photo to use in a Live Wallpaper but I'm getting a FileNotFoundException when the crop activity tries to save my new cropped image. This is the code I'm using: File file = new File(getFilesDir(), "wallpaper.jpg"); Intent intent = new Intent("com.android.camera.action.CROP"); intent.setData(uri); DisplayMetrics metrics = new DisplayMetrics(); getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay().getMetrics(metrics); intent.putExtra("outputX", metrics.widthPixels * 2); intent.putExtra("outputY", metrics.heightPixels); intent.putExtra("aspectX", metrics.widthPixels * 2); intent.putExtra("aspectY", metrics.heightPixels); intent.putExtra("scale", true); intent.putExtra("noFaceDetection", true); intent.putExtra("output", Uri.parse("file:/" + file.getAbsolutePath())); startActivityForResult(intent, REQUEST_CROP_IMAGE); The wallpaper.jpg file seems to exist on DDMS file explorer so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • OOP design for DMS that allows searching and grouping

    - by James P.
    I'd like to make a searchable Document Management System and allow a user to group documents together. On one hand, there would be a functionality that registers/fingerprints in a linear fashion and, on the other, one that associates documents into groups. How could I compromise between the two in terms of object design?

  • Match Anything Except a Sub-pattern

    - by Tim Lytle
    I'd like to accomplish what this (invalid I believe) regular expression tries to do: <p><a>([^(<\/a>)]+?)<\/a></p>uniquestring Essentially match anything except a closing anchor tag. Simple non-greedy doesn't help here because `uniquestring' may very well be after another distant closing anchor tag: <p><a>text I don't <tag>want</tag> to match</a></p>random data<p><a>text I do <tag>want to</tag> match</a></p>uniquestring more matches <p><a>of <tag>text I do</tag> want to match</a></p>uniquestring So I have more tag in between the anchor tags. And I'm using the presence of uniquestring to determine if I want to match the data. So a simple non-greedy ends up matching everything from the start of the data I don't want to the end of the data I do want. I know I'm edging close to the problems regular expressions (or at least my knowledge of them) aren't good at solving. I could just through the data at an HTML/XML parser, but it is just one simple(ish) search. Is there some easy way to do this that I'm just missing?

  • Maven Assembly: include a dependency with a different classifier

    - by James Kingsbery
    I would like to build two different versions of a WAR in Maven (I know that's a no-no, that's just the way it is given the current situation). In the version of a WAR depicted by an assembly, I want to replace a dependency by the same dependency with a different classifier. For example, I was expecting this assembly to work: <assembly> <id>end-user</id> <formats> <format>war</format> </formats> <dependencySets> <dependencySet> <excludes> <exclude>group:artifact:jar:${project.version}</exclude> </excludes> <includes> <include>group:artifact:jar:${project.version}:end-user</include> </includes> </dependencySet> </dependencySets> </assembly> This doesn't work, but am I heading in the right direction? I've already read all the pages on the Maven assembly page and the section on the Maven Definitive Guide that seems relevant. Any pointers would be helpful.

  • Sum up values in SQL once all values are available

    - by James Brown
    I have events flowing into a MySQL database and I need to group and sum the events to transactions and store away into another table. The data looks like: +----+---------+------+-------+ | id | transid | code | value | +----+---------+------+-------+ | 1 | 1 | b | 12 | | 2 | 1 | i | 23 | | 3 | 2 | b | 34 | | 4 | 1 | e | 45 | | 5 | 3 | b | 56 | | 6 | 2 | i | 67 | | 7 | 2 | e | 78 | | 8 | 3 | i | 89 | | 9 | 3 | i | 90 | +----+---------+------+-------+ The events arrive in batches and I would like to create the transaction by summing up the values for each transid, like: select transid, sum(value) from eventtable group by transid; but only after all the events for that transid have arrived. That is determined by the event with the code e (b for the beginning, e for the end and i for varying amount of intermediates). Being a novice in SQL, how could I implement the requirement for the existance of the end code before the summing?

  • What is the explanation for "warning: assuming that the loop is not infinite"

    - by James Morris
    I had just taken the decision to change as many variables from unsigned to int and upon recompiling the code in question, was greeted by this warning message: freespace_state.c:203: warning: assuming that the loop is not infinite The line in question: for (x = startx; x <= endx; ++x, ++xptr) This loop is 60 lines of code (inc white space/brackets etc), and has a goto within it, and at least one occurrence of continue. In this case, I think I am appreciative that GCC is assuming this loop is not infinite, because, it should never loop indefinitely. What is GCC trying to tell me here?

  • Slideshow positioning problem

    - by James
    I have a javascript slideshow that works perfectly on Windows 7, Firefox, Chrome, IE 8+ (I don't have the resources to check 6 or 7) and Opera. But I've been told that when on xp with IE 7 the slidshow gets thrown off screen to the right. What could my issue be? Here is my css: #page { width:940px; margin: auto; } gallery { position:relative; padding:0px; margin:5px 0px; width:940px; height:320px; } gallery li { display: block; width:940px; height:320 list-style:none; } And here is my javascript: var galleryId = 'gallery'; var gallery; var galleryImages; var currentImage; var previousImage; var preInitTimer; preInit(); function preInit() { if ((document.getElementById)&&(gallery=document.getElementById(galleryId))) { gallery.style.visibility = "hidden"; if (typeof preInitTimer != 'undefined') clearTimeout(preInitTimer); } else { preInitTimer = setTimeout("preInit()",2); } } function fader(imageNumber,opacity) { var obj=galleryImages[imageNumber]; if (obj.style) { if (obj.style.MozOpacity!=null) { obj.style.MozOpacity = (opacity/100) - .001; } else if (obj.style.opacity!=null) { obj.style.opacity = (opacity/100) - .001; } else if (obj.style.filter!=null) { obj.style.filter = "alpha(opacity="+opacity+")"; } } } function fadeInit() { if (document.getElementById) { preInit(); galleryImages = new Array; var node = gallery.firstChild; while (node) { if (node.nodeType==1) { galleryImages.push(node); } node = node.nextSibling; } for(i=0;i galleryImages[i].style.position='absolute'; galleryImages[i].style.top=0; galleryImages[i].style.zIndex=0; fader(i,0); } gallery.style.visibility = 'visible'; currentImage=0; previousImage=galleryImages.length-1; opacity=100; fader(currentImage,100); window.setTimeout("crossfade(100)", 1000); } } function crossfade(opacity) { if (opacity < 100) { fader(currentImage,opacity); opacity += 9; window.setTimeout("crossfade("+opacity+")", 50); } else { fader(previousImage,0); previousImage=currentImage; currentImage+=1; if (currentImage=galleryImages.length) { currentImage=0; } galleryImages[previousImage].style.zIndex = 0; galleryImages[currentImage].style.zIndex = 100; opacity=0; window.setTimeout("crossfade("+opacity+")", 5000); } } addEvent(window,'load',fadeInit) function addEvent(elm, evType, fn, useCapture) { if (elm.addEventListener){ elm.addEventListener(evType, fn, useCapture); return true; } else if (elm.attachEvent){ var r = elm.attachEvent("on"+evType, fn); return r; } } And ideas?

  • AJAX calls randomly timing out in IE6/7?

    - by James Skidmore
    Some of my AJAX calls in IE6 and IE7 seem to randomly time out. It doesn't happen in any of the other browsers. Posting code won't be of much help, because it literally happens in three or four different places where the functions and code are completely different. Has anyone else experienced this issue before?

  • Configure ERP conectivity to a Flex application via a web service

    - by James
    I am developing a Flex application that will need to 'pull' information from an ERP system such as SAP or Peoplesoft via the clients web service. My application will need to pass credentials & query to a Query_URL and receive the returned data. I saw a Flash Builder 4 presentation where the Adobe evangelist created a similar application using Twitter. Insights or links to example code would be appreciated.

  • How do I completely disable caching in Cakephp?

    - by James Lamiell
    So I opened the cache floodgates in my Cakephp app and now I want to close them... I've done pretty everything I can: delete all files in the tmp folder (but not the folders), turned 'Cache.disable' on in the core.php file in my app, have tried clearing the cache from within some controllers with clearCache() and Cache::clear() (but I suspect this doesn't work because it's not loading the controller -- due to caching). I've pretty much effectively halted my development process just because caching won't turn off. Anyone have some ideas that I could try? I'm starting to think it may be within the browser or maybe my hosting service, but it's probably just Cakephp messing with me.

  • Using a model to represent the overall state of a view

    - by James P.
    Is there a standard practise for representing the state of a user interface that is not linked to a single Component? For example, a Swing interface could have a series of tabs with a constraint that a single tab should only be displayed once per a given entity type (this could be represented as a HashSet). Or a message could give the result of the last operation carried out. Or a JPanel could be linked to a single entity instance for editing purposes.
