  • EXC_BAD_ACCESS when executing ABAddressBookSave !

    - by Horatiu Paraschiv
    Hi everybody, I'm trying to create a new contact and add it to the AddressBook but when I get to the ABAddressSave line of code I get EXC_BAD_ACCESS. I cannot see what am I doing wrong, I enabled NSZombie to check if this is a memory related error but it didn't spot any. Can anybody tell me what is wrong with this code? Thank you in advance! CFErrorRef error = NULL; ABAddressBookRef iPhoneAddressBook = ABAddressBookCreate(); ABRecordRef newRecord = ABPersonCreate(); ABRecordSetValue(newRecord, kABPersonFirstNameProperty, @"Xxxxxx", &error); ABRecordSetValue(newRecord, kABPersonURLProperty, @"Yyyyyy", &error); //Add phone numbers to record ABMutableMultiValueRef phones = ABMultiValueCreateMutable(kABMultiStringPropertyType); ABMultiValueAddValueAndLabel(phones, @"1-555-555-5555", kABWorkLabel, NULL); ABRecordSetValue(newRecord, kABPersonPhoneProperty, phones, &error); CFRelease(phones); //Add email address to record ABMutableMultiValueRef emails = ABMultiValueCreateMutable(kABMultiStringPropertyType); ABMultiValueAddValueAndLabel(emails, @"[email protected]", kABWorkLabel, NULL); ABRecordSetValue(newRecord, kABPersonEmailProperty, emails, &error); CFRelease(emails); ABMutableMultiValueRef multiAddress = ABMultiValueCreateMutable(kABMultiDictionaryPropertyType); NSMutableDictionary *addressDict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [addressDict setObject:@"xxx1" forKey:(NSString *)kABPersonAddressStreetKey]; [addressDict setObject:@"xxx2" forKey:(NSString *)kABPersonAddressCityKey]; [addressDict setObject:@"xxx3" forKey:(NSString *)kABPersonAddressStateKey]; [addressDict setObject:@"xxx4" forKey:(NSString *)kABPersonAddressZIPKey]; ABMultiValueAddValueAndLabel(multiAddress, addressDict, kABWorkLabel, NULL); ABRecordSetValue(newRecord, kABPersonAddressProperty, multiAddress, &error); CFRelease(multiAddress); [addressDict release]; ABAddressBookAddRecord(iPhoneAddressBook, newRecord, &error); ABAddressBookSave(iPhoneAddressBook, NULL); if(error != nil){ NSLog(@"Error creating contact:%@", error); }

  • Custom view with nib as subview doesn't seem to be loading

    - by Ben Collins
    I've created a custom view that loads its content from a nib, like this: /* PricingDataView.h */ #import <UIKit/UIKIt.h> @interface PricingDataView : UIView { UIView *contentView; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIView *contentView; @end /* PricingDataView.m */ #import "PricingDataView.h" @implementation PricingDataView @synthesize contentView; - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { if ((self = [super initWithFrame:frame])) { [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"PricingDataView" owner:self options:nil]; [contentView setFrame:frame]; [self addSubview:contentView]; } return self; } /* ... */ In the nib file I set PricingDataView as the type of the File's Owner, and connected the contentView outlet in IB. I placed a regular UIView from the Interface Library onto the full-sized view shown to the user, and then changed it's class name to PricingDataView. It all builds, but at runtime, nothing is rendered where my custom view is supposed to be. I put breakpoints in PricingDataView.initWithFrame, but they don't hit, so I know I'm missing something that would cause the view to be initialized. What I'm curious about is that int the process of loading my other views from nibs, all the initialization happens for me, but not with this one. Why?

  • How can I work around "Xcode could not locate source file"

    - by Septih
    Hello, I'm working with the ID3 framework in Xcode (which has since disappeared off the face of the web - including google cache!). I'm testing out an import mp3 feature which allows them to edit the tags as they import them. One of the test cases is a corrupt or invalid mp3 with no proper id3 header. The problem I'm having is that when updating the tags of the invalid mp3 (updateFile:), the ID3 framework attempts to use id3V1Tag.m (I assume it falls back to this if it can't find the v2 tag) and this is where I get the Xcode error (whilst running the program, not building): Xcode could not locate source file: id3V1Tag.m (line: 299) Even in a release build this crashes the program, so it's not something I can really ignore. I've tried putting a try/catch block around it but it's not treated as an exception so doesn't get caught. The function to load the tag data for the file returns a BOOL but it appears this only returns false if the given file doesn't exist, so this doesn't help either. Current code: [tagData release]; tagData = [[TagAPI alloc] initWithGenreList:nil]; tagsLoaded = [tagData examineFile:exportPath]; if(tagsLoaded) { [tagData setTitle:title]; [tagData setArtist:artist]; [tagData setComments:comments]; @try { [tagData updateFile]; } @catch (id e){ NSLog(@"h"); } }

  • Using kAudioSessionProperty_OtherMixableAudioShouldDuck on iPhone

    - by Cliff
    Hello, I'm trying to get consistant behavior out of the kAudioSessionProperty_OtherMixableAudioShouldDuck property on the iPhone to allow iPod music blending and I'm having trouble. At the start of my app I set an Ambient category like so: -(void) initialize { [[AVAudioSession sharedInstance] setCategory: AVAudioSessionCategoryAmbient error: nil]; } Later on when I attempt to play audio I set the duck property using the following method: //this will crossfade the audio with the ipod music - (void) toggleCrossfadeOn:(UInt32)onOff { //crossfade the ipod music AudioSessionSetProperty(kAudioSessionProperty_OtherMixableAudioShouldDuck,sizeof(onOff),&onOff); AudioSessionSetActive(onOff); } I call this passing a numeric "1" just before playing audio like so: [self toggleCrossfadeOn:1]; [player play]; I then call the crossfade method again passing a zero when my app's audio completes using a playback is stopping callback like so: -(void) playbackIsStoppingForPlayer:(MQAudioPlayer*)audioPlayer { NSLog(@"Releasing player"); [audioPlayer release]; [self toggleCrossfadeOn:0]; } In my production app this exact code works as expected, causing the ipod to fade out just before playing my app's audio then fade back in when the audio finishes playing. In a new project I recently started, I get different behavior. The iPod audio fades down and never fades back in. In my production app I use the AVAudioPlayer where in my new app I've written a custom audio player that uses audio queues. Could somebody help me understand the differences and how to properly use this API?

  • How to know when StatusBar size changed (iPhone)

    - by JOM
    I have UITabBarController with 2 tabs. One resizes just fine, when StatusBar size changes (emulator "Toggle In-Call Status Bar" menu item). The other one doesn't. The problematic tab item contains a static view, which dynamically loads one or another view depending on certain things. While getting this setup working I discovered that main tab view did NOT automagically send e.g. viewWillAppear and viewWillDisappear messages to my dynamic subviews. Apple docs explained this was because dynamically added views were not recognized by the system. @interface MyTabViewController : UIViewController { UIView *mainView; FirstViewController *aController; SecondViewController *bController; } ... if (index == 0) { self.aController = [[FirstViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"FirstViewController" bundle:nil]; [self.mainView addSubview:aController.view]; [self.aController viewWillAppear:YES]; } How can I get StatusBar size changed event into my dynamic subviews? The "didChangeStatusBarFrame" doesn't work, as documented elsewhere.

  • How to show AdMob ads in real iPhone device?

    - by iPhoney
    I want to integrate AdMob ads in my iPhone app. I'm using IB way to add the view and follow AdMob's pdf guide: 1. Add AdMob group(AdMobView.h,AdMobDelegateProtocol.h,libAdMob.a) 2. Add required frameworks(AudioToolbox,MediaPlayer,MessageUI,QuartzCore) 3. Add TouchJSON group 4. Add IBSupport group(AdViewController.h,AdViewController.m) 5. Add a 320*48 UIView in IB, add NSObject and change its class to AdViewController, link AdViewController's view to the 320*48 UIView and link AdViewController's viewController to current view controller. Now the iPhone simulator can show ads from AdMob, but when I test it on real device, I get the error "AdMob: Did fail to receive ad". I've tried to add test device's UDID to testDevices array, but still get the same error. - (NSArray *)testDevices { return [NSArray arrayWithObjects: ADMOB_SIMULATOR_ID, DEVICE_UDID, nil]; } Is there any problem in the above steps? Does anybody know why can't I get the ads in real device? By the way, what should be changed to build for real for-sale app, not just for test?

  • iPhone app memory leak with UIImage animation? Problem testing on device

    - by user157733
    I have an animation which works fine in the simulator but crashes on the device. I am getting the following error... Program received signal: “0”. The Debugger has exited due to signal 10 (SIGBUS) A bit of investigating suggests that the UIImages are not getting released and I have a memory leak. I am new to this so can someone tell me if this is the likely cause? If you could also tell me how to solve it then that would be amazing. The images are 480px x 480px and about 25kb each. My code is below... NSArray *rainImages = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0001.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0002.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0003.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0004.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0005.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0006.png"], //more looping images [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0045.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0046.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0047.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0048.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0049.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"rain-loop0050.png"], nil]; rainImage.animationImages = rainImages; rainImage.animationDuration = 4.15/2; rainImage.animationRepeatCount = 0; [rainImage startAnimating]; [rainImage release]; Thanks

  • Serious Application Error

    - by Garry
    I have a TableView controller class that uses a fetched results controller to display a list of 'patient' entities taken from a Core Data model. The sections of this table are taken from a patient attribute called 'location'. Here is the sort descriptor for the fetch request: NSSortDescriptor *locationDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"location" ascending:YES]; NSSortDescriptor *lastNameDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"lastName" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:locationDescriptor, lastNameDescriptor, nil]; Here is the initialisation code for the FRC: NSFetchedResultsController *aFetchedResultsController = [[NSFetchedResultsController alloc] initWithFetchRequest:fetchRequest managedObjectContext:managedObjectContext sectionNameKeyPath:@"location" cacheName:@"List"]; When I want to add a new 'patient' entity - I click an add button which then pushes an 'add new patient' view controller to the navigation stack. The first patient I add works fine. If I add a second patient - the app will sometimes crash with the following error: 2010-03-22 14:42:05.270 Patients[1126:207] Serious application error. Exception was caught during Core Data change processing: * -[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: index (1) beyond bounds (1) with userInfo (null) 2010-03-22 14:42:05.272 Patients[1126:207] Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '** -[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: index (1) beyond bounds (1)' This only seems to happen if the patient's have a location added (if none is added then the location defaults to 'unknown'). It seems to have something to do with the sorting of the location too. For instance, if the first patient location = ward 14 and the second = ward 9 then it crashes without fail. I'm wondering if this is something to do with how I am asking the fetched results controller to sort the section names?? This bug is driving me nuts and I just can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Adding a UITapGestureRecognizer to a view then removing seems to short circuit button events

    - by heymon
    In the code below I am popping up a ImageView as the result of a users touchUpInside on a simple info button. There are other buttons on the view. To dismiss the info I added a UITapGestureRecognizer to my controllers view, and hide the view when the tap is detected. If I don't remove the tapGestureRecognizer, the action is called every time some. Even when I do remove the gesture action, no bottons receive touchUpInside events once this gesture recognizer is added. Why? Code from my MainViewController (void) dismissInfo: (UITapGestureRecognizer *)gesture { [kInfoView setHidden: YES]; [gesture removeTarget: self action: NULL]; } (IBAction) displayInfo { CGRect startFrame = CGRectMake(725, 25, 0, 0), origFrame; CGFloat yCenter = [kInfoView frame].size.height/2 + 200; CGPoint startCenter = CGPointMake(724, 25), displayCenter = CGPointMake(384, yCenter); UITapGestureRecognizer *g = [[UITapGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget: self action: @selector(dismissInfo:)]; [self.view addGestureRecognizer: g]; origFrame = [kInfoView frame]; [kInfoView setCenter: startCenter]; [kInfoView setHidden: NO]; [kInfoView setFrame: startFrame]; [UIView beginAnimations: @"info" context: nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration: .5]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate: self]; [kInfoView setFrame: origFrame]; [kInfoView setCenter: displayCenter]; [UIView commitAnimations]; }

  • UITableView and SearchBar problem

    - by dododedodonl
    Hi all, I'm trying to add a Search bar to my UITableView. I followed this tutorial: http://clingingtoideas.blogspot.com/2010/02/uitableview-how-to-part-2-search.html. I'm getting this error if I type a letter in the search box: Rooster(10787,0xa05ed4e0) malloc: *** error for object 0x3b5f160: double free *** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug. This error occurs here: - (BOOL)searchDisplayController:(UISearchDisplayController *)controller shouldReloadTableForSearchString:(NSString *)searchString { [self handleSearchForTerm:searchString]; return YES; } (on the second line) - (void)handleSearchForTerm:(NSString *)searchTerm { [self setSavedSearchTerm:searchTerm]; if ([self searchResults] == nil) { NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [self setSearchResults:array]; [array release]; } //Empty the searchResults array [[self searchResults] removeAllObjects]; //Check if the searchTerm doesn't equal zero... if ([[self savedSearchTerm] length] != 0) { //Search the whole tableList (datasource) for (NSString *currentString in tableList) { NSString *klasString = [[NSString alloc] init]; NSInteger i = [[leerlingNaarKlasList objectAtIndex:[tableList indexOfObject:currentString]] integerValue]; if(i != -1) { klasString = [klassenList objectAtIndex:(i - 1)]; } //Check if the string matched or the klas (group of school) if ([currentString rangeOfString:searchTerm options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch].location != NSNotFound || [klasString rangeOfString:searchTerm options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch].location != NSNotFound) { //Add to results [[self searchResults] addObject:currentString]; //Save the klas (group of school). • Rails 3: Parsing XML

    - by gjb
    I have a simple XML document in the following format: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <object> <strField>Foo</strField> <intField>1</intField> <dateField>2010-11-03</dateField> <boolField>true</boolField> <nilField></nilField> </object> I would like to parse this into a Hash to be passed to Model.create: {:object => { :strField => 'Foo', :intField => 1, :dateField => Date.today, :boolField => true, :nilField => nil }} Sadly there are no "type" attributes in the XML, so using Hash.from_xml just parses each field as a string. What I am looking for is some sort of field type auto detection. I have also looked at Nokogiri, but that can't output as a Hash. What is the simplest and most efficient way to achieve this? Many thanks.

  • Forcing CLLocationManager updates - does it help or hurt?

    - by Steve N
    I've been trying to find any way to optimize the performance of my location-based iPhone application and have seen some people mention that you can force location updates by starting and stopping your CLLocationManager. I need the best accuracy I can get, and the user in my case would probably like to see updates every few seconds (say, 10 seconds) as they walk around. I've set the filters accordingly, but I notice that sometimes I don't get any updates on the device for quite some time. I'm testing the following approach, which forces an update when a fixed time interval passes (I'm using 20 seconds). My gut tells me this really won't help me provide more accurate updates to the user, and that just leaving CLLocationManager running all the time is probably the best approach. - (void)forceLocationUpdate { [[LocationManager locationManager] stopUpdates]; [[LocationManager locationManager] startUpdates]; [self performSelector:@selector(forceLocationUpdate) withObject:nil afterDelay:20.0]; } My question is- does forcing updates from CLLocationManager actually improve core location performance? Does it hurt performance? If I'm outside in an open field with good GPS reception, will this help then? Does anyone have experience trying this? Thanks in advance, Steve

  • Params order in Foo.new(params[:foo]), need one before the other (Rails)

    - by Jeena
    I have a problem which I don't know how to fix. It has to do with the unsorted params hash. I have a object Reservation which has a virtual time= attribute and a virtual eating_session= attribute when I set the time= I also want to validate it via an external server request. I do that with help of the method times() which makes a lookup on a other server and saves all possible times in the @times variable. The problem now is that the method times() needs the eating_session attribute to find out which times are valid, but rails sometimes calls the times= method first, before there is any eating_session in the Reservation object when I just do @reservation = Reservation.new(params[:reservation]) class ReservationsController < ApplicationController def new @reservation = Reservation.new(params[:reservation]) # ... end end class Reservation < ActiveRecord::Base include SoapClient attr_accessor :date, :time belongs_to :eating_session def time=(time) @time = times.find { |t| t[:time] == time } end def times return @times if defined? @times @times = [] response = call_soap :search_availability { # eating_session is sometimes nil :session_id => eating_session.code, # <- HERE IS THE PROBLEM :dining_date => date } response[:result].each do |result| @times << { :time => "#{DateTime.parse(result[:time]).strftime("%H:%M")}", :correlation_data => result[:correlation_data] } end @times end end I have no idea how to fix this, any help is apriciated.

  • Lua Alien Module - Trouble using WriteProcessMemory function, unsure on types (unit32)

    - by jefferysanders
    require "alien" --the address im trying to edit in the Mahjong game on Win7 local SCOREREF = 0x0744D554 --this should give me full access to the process local ACCESS = 0x001F0FFF --this is my process ID for my open window of Mahjong local PID = 1136 --function to open proc local op = alien.Kernel32.OpenProcess op:types{ ret = "pointer", abi = "stdcall"; "int", "int", "int"} --function to write to proc mem local wm = alien.Kernel32.WriteProcessMemory wm:types{ ret = "long", abi = "stdcall"; "pointer", "pointer", "pointer", "long", "pointer" } local pRef = op(ACCESS, true, PID) local buf = alien.buffer("99") -- ptr,uint32,byte arr (no idea what to make this),int, ptr print( wm( pRef, SCOREREF, buf, 4, nil)) --prints 1 if success, 0 if failed So that is my code. I am not even sure if I have the types set correctly. I am completely lost and need some guidance. I really wish there was more online help/documentation for alien, it confuses my poor brain. What utterly baffles me is that it WriteProcessMemory will sometimes complete successfully (though it does nothing at all, to my knowledge) and will also sometimes fail to complete successfully. As I've stated, my brain hurts. Any help appreciated.

  • What is best strategy to handle exceptions & errors in Rails?

    - by Nick Gorbikoff
    Hello. I was wondering if people would share their best practices / strategies on handling exceptions & errors. Now I'm not asking when to throw an exception ( it has been throroughly answered here: SO: When to throw and Exception) . And I'm not using this for my application flow - but there are legitimate exceptions that happen all the time. For example the most popular one would be ActiveRecordNotFound. What would be the best way to handle it? The DRY way? Right now I'm doing a lot of checking within my controller so if Post.find(5) returns Nil - I check for that and throw a flash message. However while this is very granular - it's a bit cumbersome in a sense that I need to check for exceptions like that in every controller, while most of them are essentially the same and have to do with record not found or related records not found - such as either Post.find(5) not found or if you are trying to display comments related to post that doesn't exist, that would throw an exception (something like Post.find(5).comments[0].created_at) I know you can do something like this in ApplicationController and overwrite it later in a particular controller/method to get more granular support, however would that be a proper way to do it? class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base rescue_from ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid do |exception| render :action => (exception.record.new_record? ? :new : :edit) end end

  • How do I set the default selection for NSTreeController at startup?

    - by John Gallagher
    The Background I've built a source list (similar to iTunes et al.) in my Cocoa app. I've got an NSOutlineView, with Value column bound to arrangedObjects.name key path of an NSTreeController. The NSTreeController accesses JGSourceListNode entities in a Core Data store. I have three subclasses of JGSourceListNode - JGProjectNode, JGGroupNode and JGFolderNode. I have selectedIndexPaths on NSTreeController bound to an NSArray called selectedIndexPaths in my App Delegate. On startup, I search for group nodes and if they're not found in the core data store I create them: if ([allGroupNodes count] == 0) { JGGroupNode *rootTrainingNode = [JGGroupNode insertInManagedObjectContext:context]; [rootTrainingNode setNodeName:@"TRAIN"]; JGProjectNode *childUntrainedNode = [JGProjectNode insertInManagedObjectContext:context]; [childUntrainedNode setParent:rootTrainingNode]; [childUntrainedNode setNodeName:@"Untrained"]; JGGroupNode *rootBrowsingNode = [JGGroupNode insertInManagedObjectContext:context]; [rootBrowsingNode setNodeName:@"BROWSE"]; JGFolderNode *childFolder = [JGFolderNode insertInManagedObjectContext:context]; [childFolder setNodeName:@"Folder"]; [childFolder setParent:rootBrowsingNode]; [context save:nil]; } What I Want When I start the app, I want both top level groups to be expanded and "Untrained" to be highlighted as shown: The Problem I put the following code in the applicationDidFinishLaunching: method of the app delegate: [sourceListOutlineView expandItem:[sourceListOutlineView itemAtRow:0]]; [sourceListOutlineView expandItem:[sourceListOutlineView itemAtRow:2]]; NSIndexPath *rootIndexPath = [NSIndexPath indexPathWithIndex:0]; NSIndexPath *childIndexPath = [rootIndexPath indexPathByAddingIndex:0]; [self setSelectedIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:childIndexPath]]; but the outline view seems to not have been prepared yet, so this code does nothing. Ideally, eventually I want to save the last selection the user had made and restore this on a restart. The Question I'm sure it's possible using some crazy KVO to observe when the NSTreeController or NSOutlineView gets populated then expand the items and change the selection, but that feels clumsy and too much like a work around. How would I do this elegantly?

  • Clipped UITextField with UITextFieldAlignmentRight

    Got a small problem with UITextField. I have a simple UITextField and when I set the textAlignment property to "right", it gets clipped by 1-2 pixels. • How does overlayViewTouched notification work in the MoviePlayer sample code

    - by Jonathan
    Hi, I have a question regarding the MoviePlayer sample code provided by apple. I don't understand how the overlayViewTouch notification works. The NSlog message I added to it does not get sent when I touch the view (not button). // post the "overlayViewTouch" notification and will send // the overlayViewTouches: message - (void)overlayViewTouches:(NSNotification *)notification { NSLog(@"overlay view touched"); // Handle touches to the overlay view (MyOverlayView) here... } I can, however, get the NSlog notification if I place it in -(void)touchesBegan in "MyOverlayView.m". Which makes me think it is recognizing touches but not sending a notification. // Handle any touches to the overlay view - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch* touch = [touches anyObject]; if (touch.phase == UITouchPhaseBegan) { NSLog(@"overlay touched(from touchesBegan") // IMPORTANT: // Touches to the overlay view are being handled using // two different techniques as described here: // // 1. Touches to the overlay view (not in the button) // // On touches to the view we will post a notification // "overlayViewTouch". MyMovieViewController is registered // as an observer for this notification, and the // overlayViewTouches: method in MyMovieViewController // will be called. // // 2. Touches to the button // // Touches to the button in this same view will // trigger the MyMovieViewController overlayViewButtonPress: // action method instead. NSNotificationCenter *nc = [NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter]; [nc postNotificationName:OverlayViewTouchNotification object:nil]; } } Can anyone shed light on what I am missing or doing wrong? Thank you.

  • iPhone SDK background thread image loading problem

    - by retailevolved
    I have created a grid view that displays six "cells" of content. In each cell, an image is loaded from the web. There are a multiple pages of this grid (the user moves through them by swiping up / down to see the next set of cells). Each cell has its own view controller. When these view controllers load, they use an ImageLoader class that I made to load and display an image. These view controllers implement an ImageLoaderDelegate that has a single method that gets called when the image is finished loading. ImageLoader does its work on a background thread and then simply notifies its delegate when it is done loading, passing the image to the delegate method. Trouble is that if the user moves on to the next page of grid content before the image has finished loading (releasing the GridCellViewControllers that use the ImageLoaders), the app crashes. I suspect that this is because along the line, an asynchronous method finishes and attempts to notify its delegate but can't because it's been released. Here's some code to give a better picture: GridCellViewController.m: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // ImageLoader _loader = [[ProductImageLoader alloc] init]; _loader.delegate = self; if(_boundObject) [_loader loadImageForProduct:_boundObject]; } //ImageLoaderDelegate method - (void) imageDidFinishLoading: (UIImage *)image { [_imgController setImage:image]; } ProductImageLoader.m - (void) loadImageForProduct: (Product *) product { // Get image on another thread [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(getImageForProductInBackground:) toTarget:self withObject:product]; } - (void) getImageForProductInBackground: (Product *) product { NSAutoreleasePool *tempPool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; HttpRequestLoader *tempLoader = [[HttpRequestLoader alloc] init]; NSURL *tempUrl = [product getImageUrl]; NSData *imageData = tempUrl ? [tempLoader loadSynchronousDataFromAddress:[tempUrl absoluteString]] : nil; UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:imageData]; [tempPool release]; if(delegate) [delegate imageDidFinishLoading:image]; } The app crashes with EXC_BAD_ACCESS. Disclaimer: The code has been slightly modified to focus on the issue at hand.

  • Displaying indexed png- files out of NSArray on the iphone screen

    - by Thomas Hülsmann
    Hi, i like to create an artwork counter- display on an iphone, diplaying 0 to 9. The 10 digits are 10 png- files with the numbers 0 to 9 as their artwork content. The 10 png- files are implemented by using NSArray. Following you'll find the implementation- code: zahlenArray = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: [UIImage imageNamed:@"ziffer-0.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"ziffer-1.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"ziffer-2.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"ziffer-3.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"ziffer-4.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"ziffer-5.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"ziffer-6.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"ziffer-7.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"ziffer-8.png"], [UIImage imageNamed:@"ziffer-9.png"], nil]; As an index for the 10 digitis I use an integer variable, initializing with 0: int counter = 0; Furthermore I declare an UIImageview programmaticaly: UIImageView *zahlenEinsBisNeun; The implementation code for the UIImageview is: zahlenEinsBisNeun = [UIImage alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(240, 50, 200, 200)]; ???????????????????????????????????????? [self.view addSubview:zahlenEinsBisNeun]; [zahlenEinsBisNeun release]; There, where you see the questionmarks, I don't know how to write the code, to retrieve my content artworks 0 to 9 from NSArray with the index "counter" and make it visible on my iphone screen by using .... addSubview:zahlenEinsBisNeun ... Can anybody help??? My thanks for your support in advance Thomas Hülsmann

  • iPhone: TableView inside UIScrollview, show vaccillating scrollbars around

    - by karim
    Hi, I have added some table and other vies in a scrollview. scrolling in tables are working fine. But in the parent scrollview, when scrolling, a vacillating vertical scrollbars are shown, sometimes it even come to the middle of the screen. sometime show at the left side of the screen. and not limited to the vertical scrollbar region. When I set tje showsVerticalScrollIndicator = NO, it is not shown. But do you know why the scrollbar is moving around. DashboardView is a subclass of UIScrollView. dashboard=[[DashboardView alloc] initWithFrame:fullScreenRect]; dashboard.contentSize = CGSizeMake(320,700); // must do! dashboard.showsVerticalScrollIndicator = YES; dashboard.bounces = YES; self.view = dashboard; @implementation DashboardView (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { if (self = [super initWithFrame:frame]) { // Initialization code } return self; } (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { // Drawing code } (void) layoutSubviews{ NSArray *views = self.subviews; [UIView beginAnimations:@"CollapseExpand" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5]; [UIView setAnimationBeginsFromCurrentState:YES]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseIn]; UIView *view = [views objectAtIndex: 0]; CGRect rect = view.frame; for (int i = 1; i < [views count]; i++ ) { view = [views objectAtIndex:i]; view.frame = CGRectMake(rect.origin.x, rect.origin.y + rect.size.height, view.frame.size.width, view.frame.size.height); rect = view.frame; } [UIView commitAnimations]; }

  • iPad start in Landscape receive only touch within 768x768

    - by user1307179
    It works perfect fine when starting in portrait and also works when you rotate from portrait to landscape and back. It does not work when starting in landscape. But then it works when you rotate from landscape to portrait and back. In landscape starting mode, the screen does not respond with any touch where screen coordinateX greater than 768. What happens in code is, I use status bar orientation to determine original orientation and rotate each view manually. The views display correctly but does not receive touch properly. Then my root view controller will get called when ipad start rotating with: - (void)willRotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)toInterfaceOrientation duration:(NSTimeInterval)duration which will rotate every subviews. Root controller: - (void)loadView { self.view = [[UIView alloc]init ]; //initialize child views [self willRotateToInterfaceOrientation:0 duration:0]; } - (void)willRotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)toInterfaceOrientation duration:(NSTimeInterval)duration { if ([model isLandscape]) { self.view.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 1024, 768-80); } else { self.view.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 768, 1024-80); } //rotate child views } My code [model isLandscape] works so I don't need to provide details as to how it works but here are the code anyway: - (bool)isLandscape { if (orientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft || orientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight) return true; else return false; } -(id) init { [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(orientationChanged:) name:UIDeviceOrientationDidChangeNotification object:nil]; } - (void)orientationChanged:(NSNotification *)notification { UIInterfaceOrientation curOrientation = [[UIDevice currentDevice] orientation]; if (curOrientation == UIDeviceOrientationPortrait || curOrientation == UIDeviceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown || curOrientation == UIDeviceOrientationLandscapeLeft || curOrientation == UIDeviceOrientationLandscapeRight) { orientation = curOrientation; ((AppDelegate*)([UIApplication sharedApplication].delegate)).savedOrientationForRestart = orientation; NSLog(@"changed"); } } -(void)validateOrientation { //first time when initializing orientation UIInterfaceOrientation curOrientation = [[UIDevice currentDevice] orientation]; if (curOrientation != UIDeviceOrientationPortrait && curOrientation != UIDeviceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown && curOrientation != UIDeviceOrientationLandscapeLeft && curOrientation != UIDeviceOrientationLandscapeRight) { orientation = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] statusBarOrientation]; } }

  • Testing background audio in the simulator

    - by Cactuar
    I'm experimenting with the new background audio service in iPhone OS 4.0 but I can't get it to work in the simulator. According to this page: iPhone Application Programming Guide: Executing Code in the Background it seems that all I have to do is add the a UIBackgroundModes key with an array containing audio to my Info.plist file and the audio my application plays should automatically continue when I switch to another app. I have done this but the audio still pauses as I switch to another app, when I switch back it continues where it left off. This is the code I'm using to play the sound: NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/audio.mp3", [[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath]]]; NSError *error; audioPlayer = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url error:&error]; audioPlayer.numberOfLoops = -1; if (audioPlayer == nil) NSLog(@"%@", [error userInfo]); else [audioPlayer play]; Has anyone gotten this to work? Could it be that it would work on an actual device and it's just a problem with the simulator? I'm a bit hesitant to install 4.0 on my phone since I've heard it's still very buggy. Wish I had another device to use only for development.
