  • Sync Framework,LINQ, and my DAL

    I am creating a WPF app that needs to allow users to work in a temporary disconnected state and I plan to use a Local Database Cache. My question's are about my data access layer. Do you typically create the whole DAL to point at the Cache or both and create a switching mechanism? Is Entity's a good way to go for my DAL against the Cache? I am used to L2S but my understanding is that I can't use that against SQLCE, correct? Thanks! PS: Any good resources out there for using Sync, Linq, and WPF ALL TOGETHER? Tutorials, videos, etc?

    Is there a way to create a strongly typed T4MVC ActionLink with a hash in it? For example, here is the link I'd like to create: <a href="/Home/Index#food">Feed me</a> But there's no extension to the T4MVC object that can do this. <%= Html.ActionLink("Feed me", T4MVC.Home.Index()) %> So, what I end up having to do is create an action, and then embed it that way: <a href="<%= Url.Action(T4MVC.Home.Index()) %>"#food>Feed me</a> This isn't very desirable.     Hy, I have a validator set on the text property of a textblock. For a correct validation I would need the parent usercontrol of the textblock, but the only things I have in the validator are the value object (a string) and the culture (doesn't help either). Does anyone know a way to get certain usercontrols in a class/a method where I have no access to any kind of visual or control of my application. The problem could be solve if I could give the validator the usercontrol or the textblock as parameters, but I didn't find a way to do so.. Thank you very much for your answers. Greets

  • Strange exceptions using FindControl after implementing master pages

    I have some simple repeater code given here: <asp:Repeater ID="ResultsRepeater" runat="server" DataSourceID="ResultsDS"> <HeaderTemplate> <table id="Results" class="data"> <tr id="Header" runat="server"> <th>Item</th> </tr> </table> </HeaderTemplate> </asp:Repeater> I used to be able to then access the repeater to get said header, as such: HtmlTableRow header = ResultsRepeater.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("Header") as HtmlTableRow; After implementing master pages, I noticed my calls to header.InnerText and .InnerHtml throw exceptions, specifically: 'header.InnerHtml' threw an exception of type 'System.NotSupportedException' 'header.InnerText' threw an exception of type 'System.NotSupportedException' Can anyone share what's going on with me? I am of course assuming master pages caused this, since it's the only thing I've changed besides minor updates (that should not affect this in any way).

  • Weird behaviour of the app.config deployment after updating it.

    I moved some hardcoded settings to a custom Section (so I did not use the <appSetting tag) in the app.config of my ClickOnce application. When updating, the clients got an error stating that the server gave a 404 not found error for the file "myapp.exe.config.deploy". Browsing on the server I did find the changed app.config there, only it was named app.config.deploy. Thinking to be smart I renamed the app.config to myapp.exe.config on the development machine and published again. That did not work... However after naming the file back to app.config and publishing the error went away and the clients used the setting happily! Please explain what went wrong?

    I have a Windows Forms app that itself launches different threads to do different kinds of work. Occasionally, ALL threads (including the UI thread) become frozen, and my app becomes unresponsive. I've decided it may be a Garbage Collector-related issue, as the GC will freeze all managed threads temporarily.   • How to tell if a datareader is open on a connection and close it

    Hi, I'm setting up a little thing for connection pooling and on of the more common bugs that we have occur(its always an easy fix, but we just can't remember reader.Close()!) it is when we have a connection that is used by a lot of classes/methods and one method opens a data reader and forgets to close it. This isn't really bad cause a lot of times all you have to do is go into the debugger and go up one level and see the function before it was and check if it had an unclosed data reader. Now, here is the bigger problem. In this connection pool, if a datareader is open, then it's not known until a thread gets a connection and tries to use it and the thing that originally opened the data reader may no longer even be alive. So quite simply, how can you detect if a data reader is open on a connection and is there a way to close the reader without closing the connection?

  • When is it worth using a BindingSource?

    I think I understand well enough what the BindingSource class does - i.e. provide a layer of indirection between a data source and a UI control. It implements the IBindingList interface and therefore also provides support for sorting. And I've used it frequently enough, without too many problems. But I'm wondering if I use it more often than I should. Perhaps an example would help. Let's say I have just a simple textbox on a form (using WinForms), and I'd like to bind that textbox to a simple property inside a class that returns a string. Is it worth using a BindingSource in this situation? Now let's say I have a grid on my form, and I'd like to bind it to a DataTable. Should I use a BindingSource now? In the latter case, I probably would not use a BindingSource, as a DataTable, from what I can gather, provides the same functionality that the BindingSource itself would. The DataTable will fire the the right events when a row is added, deleted, etc so that the grid will automatically update. But in the first case with the textbox being bound to a string, I would probably have the class that contains the string property implement INotifyPropertyChanged, so that it could fire the PropertyChanged event when the string changes. I would use a BindingSource so that it could listen to these PropertyChanged events so that it could update the textbox automatically when the string changes. How does this sound so far? I still feel like there's a gap in my understanding that's preventing me from seeing the whole picture. This has been a pretty vague question so far, so I'll try to ask some more specific questions - ideally the answers will reference the above examples or something similar... (1) Is it worth using a BindingSource in either of the above examples? (2) It seems that developers just "assume" that the DataTable class will do the right thing, in firing PropertyChanged events at the right time. How does one know if a data source is capable of doing this? Is there a particular interface that a data source should implement in order for developers to be able to assume this behaviour? (3) Does it matter what Control is being bound to, when considering whether or not to use a BindingSource? Or is it only the data source that should affect the decision? Perhaps the answer is (and this would seem logical enough): the Control needs to be intelligent enough to listen to the PropertyChanged events, otherwise a BindingSource is required. So how does one tell if the Control is capable of doing this? Again, is there a particular interface that developers can look for that the Control must implement? It is this confusion that has, in the past, led to me always using a BindingSource. But I'd like to understand better exactly when to use one, so that I do so only when necessary.

  • is (StringComparison.)Ordinal the same as InvariantCulture for testing equality?

    From what I read so far, it sounds like these StringComparison types are meant to differ in how they do sorting of strings, if so, does that mean that it does'nt matter which StringComparison you use when doing an equality comparison? string.Equals(a, b, StringComparison....) Extra credit: does it make a difference to the answer if we compare OrdinalIgnoreCase and InvariantCultureIgnoreCase? What is the answer then? Please provide supporting argument and/or references.

  • Problems getting text from an openWysiwyg enabled TextBox

    I have a multiline text box on a form. I dropped in the js file for openWYSIWYG and attached it to the textbox. When I submit the form, the text box has no value. I'm having problems finding documentation on this library. Has anyone else used this who would be able to direct me as to where I can troubleshoot this issue.
