  • Uploading XML with NSInputStream Iphone....

    - by Aks
Hi, I have to upload XML string to server & the Web service expect it in body stream part of the http request. So i am allocating the NSInputstream instance with xml data & then setting it the part of the http string but it uploading the stream body NULL & in my code if check the Stream status, it gives error & size null, Could you let me know how to get it done , also pasting the code. Code: NSInputStream* stream = [[[NSInputStream alloc]initWithData:streamData]retain]; request=[NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:nss_url]]; NSString *msgLength = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [message length]]; [request addValue: @"text/xml; charset=utf-8" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Type"]; [request addValue: @"http://www.XYZ.COM/ACL" forHTTPHeaderField:@"SOAPAction"]; [request addValue: msgLength forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Length"]; [request setHTTPBodyStream:[NSInputStream inputStreamWithData:streamData]]; [request setHTTPMethod:@"POST"]; NSLog(@"The input stream is %@ & error is %@",[stream streamStatus],[stream streamError]); Its gives: The input stream is (null) & error is Error Domain=NSUnknownErrorDomain Code=0 "Operation could not be completed. (NSUnknownErrorDomain error 0.)" Any inputs what I am missing ..........

  • Ignore case in Python strings

    - by Paul Oyster
What is the easiest way to compare strings in Python, ignoring case? Of course one can do (str1.lower() <= str2.lower()), etc., but this created two additional temporary strings (with the obvious alloc/g-c overheads). I guess I'm looking for an equivalent to C's stricmp(). [Some more context requested, so I'll demonstrate with a trivial example:] Suppose you want to sort a looong list of strings. You simply do theList.sort(). This is O(n * log(n)) string comparisons and no memory management (since all strings and list elements are some sort of smart pointers). You are happy. Now, you want to do the same, but ignore the case (let's simplify and say all strings are ascii, so locale issues can be ignored). You can do theList.sort(key=lambda s: s.lower()), but then you cause two new allocations per comparison, plus burden the garbage-collector with the duplicated (lowered) strings. Each such memory-management noise is orders-of-magnitude slower than simple string comparison. Now, with an in-place stricmp()-like function, you do: theList.sort(cmp=stricmp) and it is as fast and as memory-friendly as theList.sort(). You are happy again. The problem is any Python-based case-insensitive comparison involves implicit string duplications, so I was expecting to find a C-based comparisons (maybe in module string). Could not find anything like that, hence the question here. (Hope this clarifies the question).

  • NSURLConnection and empty post variables

    - by SooDesuNe
I'm at my wits end with this one, because I've used very similar code in the past, and it worked just fine. The following code results in empty $_POST variables on the server. I verified this with: file_put_contents('log_file_name', "log: ".$word, FILE_APPEND); the only contents of log_file_name was "log: " I then verified the PHP with a simple HTML form. It performed as expected. The Objective-C: NSString *word = "this_word_gets_lost"; NSString *myRequestString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"word=%@", word]; [self postAsynchronousPHPRequest:myRequestString toPage:@"http://www.mysite.com/mypage.php" delegate:nil]; } -(void) postAsynchronousPHPRequest:(NSString*)request toPage:(NSString*)URL delegate:(id)delegate{ NSData *requestData = [ NSData dataWithBytes: [ request UTF8String ] length: [ request length ] ]; NSMutableURLRequest *URLrequest = [ [ NSMutableURLRequest alloc ] initWithURL: [ NSURL URLWithString: URL ] ]; [ URLrequest setHTTPMethod: @"POST" ]; [ URLrequest setHTTPBody: requestData ]; [ NSURLConnection connectionWithRequest:URLrequest delegate:delegate]; [URLrequest release]; } The PHP: $word = $_POST['word']; file_put_contents('log_file_name', "log: ".$word, FILE_APPEND); What am I doing wrong in the Objective-C that would cause the $_POST variable to be empty on the server?

  • iPhone UIScrollView embedded UIView is clipped

    - by scc
Hello. I have an iPad UIView subclass (we'll call LargerUIView) with which I do a bunch of drawing via drawRect: once asked. That all appears to be working, and looks the way I like. I'm at the point now of trying to get scrolling working (just in the horizontal to begin), yet when I try to scroll, what shows below is black (ie, appears to have never been drawn). That doesn't surprise me as it's likely been clipped. Looking for suggestions. Here's what I'm doing so far: MyAppDelegate.m - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { CGRect scrollRect = CGRectMake(0, 0, 768, 1024); UIScrollView *scrollView = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:scrollRect]; LargerUIView *view = (LargerUIView *)[viewController view]; [scrollView addSubview:view]; [scrollView setContentSize:CGSizeMake(768, pageHeight)]; [scrollView setContentMode:UIViewContentModeRedraw]; [scrollView setClipsToBounds:YES]; [window addSubview:scrollView]; [scrollView release]; // Without this next line, the "frontmost" (ie, most recently added subview) // is the MoxiesAppetizerMenu - which is not equipped to handle scrolling/UIEvents [window sendSubviewToBack:view]; // Show it all. [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } Any suggestions? Have tried changing "setClipsToBounds" to NO as well.

  • UISlider how to set the initial value

    - by slim
I'm pretty new at this iphone dev stuff and i'm working on some existing code at a company. The uislider i'm trying to set the initial value on is actually in a UITableViewCell and is a custom control. I was thinking in the cell init cell = (QuantitiesCell *)[self loadCellWithNibName:@"QuantitiesCell" forTableView:ltableView withStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault]; i could just call something like ((QuantitiesCell *)cell).value = 5; The actual QuantitiesCell class has the member value and the following functions -(void)initCell;{ if (listOfValues == nil) { [self initListOfValues]; } quantitiesSLider.maximumValue = [listOfValues count]-1; quantitiesSLider.minimumValue = 0; quantitiesSLider.value = self.value; } -(void)initListOfValues;{ listOfValues = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:10]; int j =0; for (float i = minValue; i <= maxValue+increment; i=i+increment) { [listOfValues addObject:[NSNumber numberWithFloat: i]]; if (i == value) { quantitiesSLider.value = j; } j++; } } like i said, i'm pretty new at this so if i need to post more of the code to show whats going to get help, let me know, This slider always is defaulting to 1, the slider ranges usually from 1-10, and i want to set it to a specific value of the item i'm trying to edit.

  • A way to enable a LaunchDaemon to output sound?

    - by Varun Mehta
I have a small Foundation application that checks a website and plays a sound if it sees a certain value. This application successfully plays a sound when I run it as my user from the Terminal. I've configured this app to run as a LaunchDaemon, with the following plist: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Label</key> <string>org.myorg.appidentifier</string> <key>ProgramArguments</key> <array> <string>/Users/varunm/path/to/cli/application</string> </array> <key>KeepAlive</key> <true/> <key>RunAtLoad</key> <true/> </dict> </plist> When I have this service launched I can see it successfully read in and log values from the website, but it never generates any sound. The sound files are located in the same directory as the binary, and I use the following code: NSSound *soundToPlay = [[NSSound alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:@"sound.wav" byReference:NO]; [soundToPlay setDelegate:stopper]; [soundToPlay play]; while (g_keepRunning) { [[NSRunLoop currentRunLoop] runUntilDate:[NSDate dateWithTimeIntervalSinceNow:1.0]]; } [soundToPlay setCurrentTime:0.0]; Is there any way to get my LaunchDaemon application to play sound? This machine gets run by different people, and sometimes has no one logged in, which is why I have to configure it as a LaunchDaemon.

  • How can I implement a volume meter for a song currently playing? (iPhone OS 3.1.3)

    - by Adam
    Hi i'm very new to core audio and I just would like some help in coding up a little volume meter for whatever's being outputted through headphones or built-in speaker. Like a dB meter. I have the following code, and have been trying to go through the apple source project "SpeakHere", but it's a nightmare trying to go through all that, without knowing how it works first... Could anyone shed some light? Here's the code I have so far... (void)displayWaveForm { while (musicIsPlaying == YES { NSLog(@"%f",sizeof(AudioQueueLevelMeterState)); } } (IBAction)playMusic { if (musicIsPlaying == NO) { NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@/track7.wav",[[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath]]]; NSError *error; music = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url error:&error]; music.numberOfLoops = -1; music.volume = 0.5; [music play]; musicIsPlaying = YES; [self displayWaveForm]; } else { [music pause]; musicIsPlaying = NO; } }

  • Implementation of "Automatic Lightweight Migration" for Core Data (iPhone)

    - by RickiG
Hi I would like to make my app able to do an automatic lightweight migration when I add new attributes to my core data model. In the guide from Apple this is the only info on the subject I could find: Automatic Lightweight Migration To request automatic lightweight migration, you set appropriate flags in the options dictionary you pass in addPersistentStoreWithType:configuration:URL:options:error:. You need to set values corresponding to both the NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption and the NSInferMappingModelAutomaticallyOption keys to YES: NSError *error; NSURL *storeURL = <#The URL of a persistent store#>; NSPersistentStoreCoordinator *psc = <#The coordinator#>; NSDictionary *options = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES], NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption, [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES], NSInferMappingModelAutomaticallyOption, nil]; if (![psc addPersistentStoreWithType:<#Store type#> configuration:<#Configuration or nil#> URL:storeURL options:options error:&error]) { // Handle the error. } My NSPersistentStoreCoordinator is initialized in this way: - (NSPersistentStoreCoordinator *)persistentStoreCoordinator { if (persistentStoreCoordinator != nil) { return persistentStoreCoordinator; } NSURL *storeUrl = [NSURL fileURLWithPath: [[self applicationDocumentsDirectory] stringByAppendingPathComponent: @"FC.sqlite"]]; NSError *error = nil; persistentStoreCoordinator = [[NSPersistentStoreCoordinator alloc] initWithManagedObjectModel:[self managedObjectModel]]; if (![persistentStoreCoordinator addPersistentStoreWithType:NSSQLiteStoreType configuration:nil URL:storeUrl options:nil error:&error]) { NSLog(@"Unresolved error %@, %@", error, [error userInfo]); abort(); } return persistentStoreCoordinator; } I am having trouble seeing where and how I should add the Apple code to get the Automatic Lightweight Migration working?

  • Memory leak when returning object

    - by Yakattak
    I have this memory leak that has been very stubborn for the past week or so. I have a class method I use in a class called "ArchiveManager" that will unarchive a specific .dat file for me, and return an array with it's contents. Here is the method: +(NSMutableArray *)unarchiveCustomObject { NSMutableArray *array = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:[NSKeyedUnarchiver unarchiveObjectWithFile:/* Archive Path */]]; return array; } I understand I don't have ownership of it at this point, and I return it. CustomObject *myObject = [[ArchiveManager unarchiveCustomObject] objectAtIndex:0]; Then, later when I unarchive it in a view controller to be used (I don't even create an array of it, nor do I make a pointer to it, I just reference it to get something out of the array returned by unarchiveCustomIbject (objectAtIndex). This is where Instruments is calling a memory leak, yet I don't see how this can leak! Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Edit: CustomObject initWithCoder added: -(id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder *)aDecoder { if (self = [super init]) { self.string1 = [aDecoder decodeObjectForKey:kString1]; self.string2 = [aDecoder decodeObjectForKey:kString2]; self.string3 = [aDecoder decodeObjectForKey:kString3]; UIImage *picture = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:[aDecoder decodeObjectForKey:kPicture]]; self.picture = picture; self.array = [aDecoder decodeObjectForKey:kArray]; [picture release]; } return self; }

  • Why am I getting "Message sent to deallocated object" in Objective-C?

    - by Dave C
    I have several buttons on my app that are being created dynamically. They are all pointed at the button click event when pressed. When the button pressed method is called, the sender's tag (int value) is parsed into the controller's house ID. It works with one of the buttons — the first one created, to be specific — but the others throw the following error: -[CFNumber intValue]: message sent to deallocated instance 0xc4bb0ff0 I am not releasing these buttons anywhere in my code. I haven't set them to autorelease or anything like that. I'm just wondering why they are doing this on the click. The button click event: - (IBAction) ButtonClick: (id) sender { HouseholdViewController *controller = [[HouseholdViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"HouseholdViewController" bundle:nil]; controller.delegate = self; controller.HouseID = [(NSInteger)[(UIButton *)sender tag] intValue]; //this line throws an error controller.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; [self presentModalViewController:controller animated:YES]; [controller release]; } Where I am creating the buttons: UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom]; button.frame = CGRectMake(MyLongInScreenCoords, MyLatInScreenCoords, 50, 50); UIImage *buttonImageNormal = [UIImage imageNamed:@"blue_pin.png"]; UIImage *strechableButtonImageNormal = [buttonImageNormal stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:50 topCapHeight:50]; [button setBackgroundImage:strechableButtonImageNormal forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [self.view addSubview:button]; button.tag = [NSNumber numberWithInt:[[words objectAtIndex: i] intValue]]; ButtonPoints[CurrentHouseCount][0] = button; ButtonPoints[CurrentHouseCount][1] = [NSValue valueWithCGPoint:CGPointMake(MyActualLat, MyActualLong)]; [button addTarget:self action:@selector(ButtonClick:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; CurrentHouseCount++;

  • Iphone - UIView not displayed

    - by Raphael Pinto
Hi, I have a strange problem with a UIView : I want to show an Activity Indicator View that I created with Interface Builder to indicate long running activity. In the viewDidLoad function of my principal viewController I init the ActivityIndicator View like this : - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; appDelegate = (MyAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; load = [[ActivityIndicatorViewController alloc] init]; ... When I push a button it call this IBAction : - (IBAction)LaunchButtonPressed{ // Show the Activity indicator view. [self.view addSubview:load.view]; // eavy work [self StartWorking]; // Hide the loading view. [load.view removeFromSuperview]; } In the StartWorking function, I ask a request to an internet serveur and parse the XML file that it return me. The problem is that if I Call my StartWorking function, the application do not start by showing the Activity Indicator view but with the StartWorking function. Whereas if I remove the call to StartWorking function, the view is shown. Is someone able to explain me why? :s

  • Strange XCode debugger behavior with UITableView datasource

    - by Tarfa
Hey guys. I've got a perplexing issue. In my subclassed UITableViewController my datasource methods lose their tableview reference depending on lines of code I put inside the method. For example, in this code block: - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { // Return the number of sections. return 3; } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { // Return the number of rows in the section. return 5; } // Customize the appearance of table view cells. - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { id i = tableView; static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } // Configure the cell... return cell; } the "id i = tableView;" causes the tableview to become nil (0x0) -- and it causes it to be nil before I ever start stepping into the method. If I insert an assignment statement above the "id i = tableview;" statement: CGFloat x = 5.0; id i = tableView; then tableview retains its pointer (i.e. is not nil) if I place the breakpoint after the "id i = tableView;" line. In other words, the breakpoint must be set after the "id i = tableView"; assignment in order for tableView to retain its pointer. If the breakpoint is set before the assignment is made and I just hang at that breakpoint for a bit then after a couple of seconds the console logs this error message: Assertion failed: (cls), function getName, file /SourceCache/objc4_Sim/objc4-427.5/runtime/objc-runtime-new.mm, line 3990. Although the code works when I don't step through the method, I need my debugger to work! It makes programming kind of challenging when your debugging tools become your enemy. Anyone know what the cause and solution are? Thanks.

  • Core Data, Bindings, value transformers : crash when saving

    - by Gael
Hi, I am trying to store a PNG image in a core data store backed by an sqlite database. Since I intend to use this database on an iPhone I can't store NSImage objects directly. I wanted to use bindings and an NSValueTransformer subclass to handle the transcoding from the NSImage (obtained by an Image well on my GUI) to an NSData containing the PNG binary representation of the image. I wrote the following code for the ValueTransformer : + (Class)transformedValueClass { return [NSImage class]; } + (BOOL)allowsReverseTransformation { return YES; } - (id)transformedValue:(id)value { if (value == nil) return nil; return [[[NSImage alloc] initWithData:value] autorelease]; } - (id)reverseTransformedValue:(id)value { if (value == nil) return nil; if(![value isKindOfClass:[NSImage class]]) { NSLog(@"Type mismatch. Expecting NSImage"); } NSBitmapImageRep *bits = [[value representations] objectAtIndex: 0]; NSData *data = [bits representationUsingType:NSPNGFileType properties:nil]; return data; } The model has a transformable property configured with this NSValueTransformer. In Interface Builder a table column and an image well are both bound to this property and both have the proper value transformer name (an image dropped in the image well shows up in the table column). The transformer is registered and called every time an image is added or a row is reloaded (checked with NSLog() calls). The problem arises when I am trying to save the managed objects. The console output shows the error message : [NSImage length]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1004933a0 It seems like core data is using the value transformer to obtain the NSImage back from the NSData and then tries to save the NSImage instead of the NSData. There are probably workarounds such as the one presented in this post but I would really like to understand why my approach is flawn. Thanks in advance for your ideas and explanations.

  • What's the standard convention for creating a new NSArray from an existing NSArray?

    - by Prairiedogg
Let's say I have an NSArray of NSDictionaries that is 10 elements long. I want to create a second NSArray with the values for a single key on each dictionary. The best way I can figure to do this is: NSMutableArray *nameArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:[array count]]; for (NSDictionary *p in array) { [nameArray addObject:[p objectForKey:@"name"]]; } self.my_new_array = array; [array release]; [nameArray release]; } But in theory, I should be able to get away with not using a mutable array and using a counter in conjunction with [nameArray addObjectAtIndex:count], because the new list should be exactly as long as the old list. Please note that I am NOT trying to filter for a subset of the original array, but make a new array with exactly the same number of elements, just with values dredged up from the some arbitrary attribute of each element in the array. In python one could solve this problem like this: new_list = [p['name'] for p in old_list] or if you were a masochist, like this: new_list = map(lambda p: p['name'], old_list) Having to be slightly more explicit in objective-c makes me wonder if there is an accepted common way of handling these situations.

  • MKAnnotationView for userLocation pin iPhone

    - by Mauricio Galindo
I have an application that uses MKMapView and at some point in the app I need to remove all the current pins in the map using [mapView removeAnnotations:mapView.annotations] And then I want to show again the current user location mapView.showUserLocation = YES But I can only make it reappear as a regular pin, because the userLocation view class its not public so I cant return views of that type. Here is my code - (MKAnnotationView *)mapView:(MKMapView *)theMapView viewForAnnotation:(id <MKAnnotation>)annotation MKPinAnnotationView* annView = (MKPinAnnotationView *)[mapView dequeueReusableAnnotationViewWithIdentifier:@"currentloc"]; if (!annView) { MKPinAnnotationView *annView=[[MKPinAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:@"currentloc"]; annView.pinColor = MKPinAnnotationColorRed; annView.animatesDrop=TRUE; annView.canShowCallout = YES; annView.calloutOffset = CGPointMake(-5, 5); if ([annotation isKindOfClass:[DraggableAnnotationAM class]] ) annView.draggable = YES; return annView; } else { if ([annotation isKindOfClass:[DraggableAnnotationAM class]] ) annView.draggable = YES; annView.annotation = annotation; return annView; } Also I have found through reflection that MKUserLocationView is the class that is used to display the current location, but because its not public its not safe to use and my app keeps crashing and Im sure theres a easier way. Is it possible to do what I want, or should I just never remove the user location annotation of the mapView? Thanks in advance

  • Why do my raytraced spheres have dark lines when lit with multiple light sources?

    - by Curyous
I have a simple raytracer that only works back up to the first intersection. The scene looks OK with two different light sources, but when both lights are in the scene, there are dark shadows where the lit area from one ends, even if in the middle of a lit area from the other light source (particularly noticeable on the green ball). The transition from the 'area lit by both light sources' to the 'area lit by just one light source' seems to be slightly darker than the 'area lit by just one light source'. The code where I'm adding the lighting effects is: // trace lights for ( int l=0; l<primitives.count; l++) { Primitive* p = [primitives objectAtIndex:l]; if (p.light) { Sphere * lightSource = (Sphere *)p; // calculate diffuse shading Vector3 *light = [[Vector3 alloc] init]; light.x = lightSource.centre.x - intersectionPoint.x; light.y = lightSource.centre.y - intersectionPoint.y; light.z = lightSource.centre.z - intersectionPoint.z; [light normalize]; Vector3 * normal = [[primitiveThatWasHit getNormalAt:intersectionPoint] retain]; if (primitiveThatWasHit.material.diffuse > 0) { float illumination = DOT(normal, light); if (illumination > 0) { float diff = illumination * primitiveThatWasHit.material.diffuse; // add diffuse component to ray color colour.red += diff * primitiveThatWasHit.material.colour.red * lightSource.material.colour.red; colour.blue += diff * primitiveThatWasHit.material.colour.blue * lightSource.material.colour.blue; colour.green += diff * primitiveThatWasHit.material.colour.green * lightSource.material.colour.green; } } [normal release]; [light release]; } } How can I make it look right?

  • iPhone application update (using Core Data on Sqlite)

    - by owen
I have an app which is using Core Data on Sqlite, Now I have a update which has some DB structure changes say adding a new table I know when an app get updated, it updates the app binary only, nothing on document directory will be changed. When the app gets updated and launchs at the first time and run [[NSPersistentStoreCoordinator alloc] initWithManagedObjectModel:[self managedObjectModel]]; It will find the difference between the data model and DB structure in Sqlite and will throw an exception and quit. Error: "The model used to open the store is incompatible with the one used to create the store" So, can anyone here give me some idea how to update an app when there is a DB structure change? I think we can run a DB script to create that new table when it launchs the update at the first time. But if there are other changes like changing the type of some fields or deleting some fields, and we need to migrate the old data, this is really a headache. In this case, Is the only way to do is creating a new app? Is there anyone tried something similar like this?

  • iPhone slide view passing variables

    - by sebastyuiop
    Right, I'm trying to make an app that has a calculation that involves a stopwatch. When a button on the calculation view is clicked a stopwatch slides in from the bottom. This all works fine, the problem I can't get my head around is how to send the recorded time back to the previous controller to update a textfield. I've simplified the code and stripped out most irrelevant stuff. Many thanks. CalculationViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface CalculationViewController : UIViewController <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource> { IBOutlet UITextField *inputTxt; } @property (nonatomic, retain) UITextField *inputTxt; - (IBAction)showTimer:(id)sender; @end CalculationViewController.m #import "CalculationViewController.h" #import "TimerViewController.h" @implementation CalculationViewController - (IBAction)showTimer:(id)sender { TimerViewController *timerView = [[TimerViewController alloc] init]; [self.navigationController presentModalViewController:timerView animated:YES]; } TimerViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface TimerViewController : UIViewController { IBOutlet UILabel *time; NSTimer *myTicker; } - (IBAction)start; - (IBAction)stop; - (IBAction)reset; - (void)showActivity; @end TimerViewController.m #import "TimerViewController.h" #import "CalculationViewController.h" @implementation TimerViewController - (IBAction)start { myTicker = [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:1.0 target:self selector:@selector(showActivity) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; } - (IBAction)stop { [myTicker invalidate]; #Update inputTxt on calculation view here [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } - (IBAction)reset { time.text = @"0"; } - (void)showActivity { int currentTime = [time.text intValue]; int newTime = currentTime + 1; time.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", newTime]; } @end

  • Custom back button click event on pushed view controller

    - by TechFusion
    Hello, I have pushed view controller and load WebView and Custom rectangular rounded button on right down left corner into view using programmatic way. -(void)loadView { CGRect frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 480, 320); WebView = [[[UIWebView alloc] initWithFrame:frame] autorelease]; WebView.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; WebView.scalesPageToFit = YES; WebView.autoresizingMask = (UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleLeftMargin | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleTopMargin); WebView.autoresizesSubviews = YES; WebView.exclusiveTouch = YES; WebView.clearsContextBeforeDrawing = YES; self.roundedButtonType = [[UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect] retain]; self.roundedButtonType.frame = CGRectMake(416.0, 270.0, 44, 19); [self.roundedButtonType setTitle:@"Back" forState:UIControlStateNormal]; self.roundedButtonType.backgroundColor = [UIColor grayColor]; [self.roundedButtonType addTarget:self action:@selector(back:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; self.view = WebView; [self.view addSubview: self.roundedButtonType ]; [WebView release]; } This is action that I have added as back button of navigation. -(void)back:(id)sender{ [self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } -(void)viewDidUnload{ self.WebView = nil; self.roundedButtonType = nil; } -(void)dealloc{ [roundedButtonType release]; [super dealloc]; } Here, When Back button click then it is showing previous view but application got stuck in that view and GDB shows Program received signal :EXC_BAD_ACCESS message. how resolve this issue? Thanks,

  • Can I load a UIImage from a URL?

    - by progrmr
I have a URL for an image (got it from UIImagePickerController) but I no longer have the image in memory (the URL was saved from a previous run of the app). Can I reload the UIImage from the URL again? I see that UIImage has a imageWithContentsOfFile: but I have a URL. Can I use NSData's dataWithContentsOfURL: to read the URL? EDIT based on @Daniel's answer I tried the following code but it doesn't work... NSLog(@"%s %@", __PRETTY_FUNCTION__, photoURL); if (photoURL) { NSURL* aURL = [NSURL URLWithString:photoURL]; NSData* data = [[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:aURL]; self.photoImage = [UIImage imageWithData:data]; [data release]; } When I ran it the console shows: -[PhotoBox willMoveToWindow:] file://localhost/Users/gary/Library/Application%20Support/iPhone%20Simulator/3.2/Media/DCIM/100APPLE/IMG_0004.JPG *** -[NSURL length]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x536fbe0 *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[NSURL length]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x536fbe0' Looking at the call stack, I'm calling URLWithString, which calls URLWithString:relativeToURL:, then initWithString:relativeToURL:, then _CFStringIsLegalURLString, then CFStringGetLength, then forwarding_prep_0, then forwarding, then -[NSObject doesNotRecognizeSelector]. Any ideas why my NSString (photoURL's address is 0x536fbe0) doesn't respond to length? Why does it say it doesn't respond to -[NSURL length]? Doesn't it know that param is an NSString, not a NSURL?

  • Objective-C Getter Memory Management

    - by Marian André
I'm fairly new to Objective-C and am not sure how to correctly deal with memory management in the following scenario: I have a Core Data Entity with a to-many relationship for the key "children". In order to access the children as an array, sorted by the column "position", I wrote the model class this way: @interface AbstractItem : NSManagedObject { NSArray * arrangedChildren; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSSet * children; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber * position; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSArray * arrangedChildren; @end @implementation AbstractItem @dynamic children; @dynamic position; @synthesize arrangedChildren; - (NSArray*)arrangedChildren { NSArray* unarrangedChildren = [[self.children allObjects] retain]; NSSortDescriptor* sortDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"position" ascending:YES]; [arrangedChildren release]; arrangedChildren = [unarrangedChildren sortedArrayUsingDescriptors:[NSArray arrayWithObject:sortDescriptor]]; [sortDescriptor release]; [unarrangedChildren release]; return [arrangedChildren retain]; } @end I'm not sure whether or not to retain unarrangedChildren and the returned arrangedChildren (first and last line of the arrangedChildren getter). Does the NSSet allObjects method already return a retained array? It's probably too late and I have a coffee overdose. I'd be really thankful if someone could point me in the right direction. I guess I'm missing vital parts of memory management knowledge and I will definitely look into it thoroughly.
