  • Spinner cannot load an integer array?

    - by Adam
    I have an application, which has a Spinner that I want populated with some numbers (4,8,12,16). I created an integer-array object in strings.xml with the items mentioned above, set the entries of the Spinner to the integer-array, and when I run the app I get: 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): java.lang.NullPointerException 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.widget.ArrayAdapter.createViewFromResource(ArrayAdapter.java:355) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.widget.ArrayAdapter.getView(ArrayAdapter.java:323) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.widget.AbsSpinner.onMeasure(AbsSpinner.java:198) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:7965) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.view.ViewGroup.measureChildWithMargins(ViewGroup.java:2989) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.widget.LinearLayout.measureChildBeforeLayout(LinearLayout.java:888) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.widget.LinearLayout.measureVertical(LinearLayout.java:350) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onMeasure(LinearLayout.java:278) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:7965) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.view.ViewGroup.measureChildWithMargins(ViewGroup.java:2989) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onMeasure(FrameLayout.java:245) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:7965) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.widget.LinearLayout.measureVertical(LinearLayout.java:464) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onMeasure(LinearLayout.java:278) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:7965) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.view.ViewGroup.measureChildWithMargins(ViewGroup.java:2989) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onMeasure(FrameLayout.java:245) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.view.View.measure(View.java:7965) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.view.ViewRoot.performTraversals(ViewRoot.java:763) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1632) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4310) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:860) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:618) 04-19 23:38:48.016: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(10193): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) As soon as I changed the array to a string-array, this works fine. • Strange crashes on the iPad device with core graphics functions

    - by toastie
I am getting a lot of strange EXC_BAD_ACCESS crashes on the iPad that only happen on the device and not in the simulator. I am assuming that they are somehow memory related, but I am not sure. They all happen with image context related functions. One strange example is using CGImageCreateWithImageInRect. For example, if i run through a bunch of UIImages and crop them with CGImageCreateWithImageInRect, it will always crash at specific arbitrary sizes. Like, if I crop them all to 200x200, it crashes out after processing 12 images. If i crop them to 210x210, it works no problem. The EXC_BAD_ACCESS happens inside of "memmove" called from "CGBlt_copyBytes". That is all the debugger shows me strangely enough. I can't see the callstack going up to any of my methods. All of this works fine in the simulator! I know this is all very vague, but if anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to use CFUUID, can CFUUID be traced back to a unique individual. security/privacy

    - by Kevin
Hi, i an new to iphone Dev and the concept of CFUUID, so thought i should ask, before i start implementing it. so the string returned by CFUUID is it really unique or can it be traced back to a unique individual. meaning lets say, i generate a CFUUID object and convert it to string(using the methods provided) , and then this info is used in my app or stored on a server database. and how unique is it, i mean is their a chance it can be similar to one generated on some other device. is it a good idea to use this info freely or are their some security/privacy aspects that i am not thinking about here. any help is greatly appreciated thanks

  • Problems removing a " from a string

    - by Graeme
Hi, I have a string that ends with a " (quotation mark) that I want to get rid of. However, because XCode usually requires you to enter the text you wish to remove using stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString in @"texttoremove" format, you can't use the quotation marks in the space as it thinks you are closing the text. Any ideas on how I can do it? Thanks.

  • sqlite3 no insert is done after --> insert into --> SQLITE_DONE

    - by Fra
Hi all, I'm trying to insert some data in a table using sqlite3 on an iphone... All the error codes I get from the various steps indicate that the operation should have been successful, but in fact, the table remains empty...I think I'm missing something... here the code: sqlite3 *database = nil; NSString *dbPath = [[[ NSBundle mainBundle ] resourcePath ] stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"placemarks.sql"]; if(sqlite3_open([dbPath UTF8String], &database) == SQLITE_OK){ sqlite3_stmt *insert_statement = nil; //where int pk, varchar name, varchar description, blob picture static char *sql = "INSERT INTO placemarks (pk, name, description, picture) VALUES(99,'nnnooooo','dddooooo', '');"; if (sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, sql, -1, &insert_statement, NULL) != SQLITE_OK) { NSAssert1(0, @"Error: failed to prepare statement with message '%s'.", sqlite3_errmsg(database)); } int success = sqlite3_step(insert_statement); int finalized = sqlite3_finalize(insert_statement); NSLog(@"success: %i finalized: %i",success, finalized); NSAssert1(101, @"Error: failed to insert into the database with message '%s'.", sqlite3_errmsg(database)); sqlit3_step returns 101, so SQLITE_DONE, which should be ok.. If I execute the sql statement in the command line it works properly... anyone has an idea? could it be that there's a problem in writing the placemarks.sql because it's in the resources folder? rgds Fra

  • Saving data - does work on Simulator, not on Device

    - by Peter Hajas
I use NSData to persist an image in my application. I save the image like so (in my App Delegate): - (void)applicationWillTerminate:(UIApplication *)application { NSLog(@"Saving data"); NSData *data = UIImagePNGRepresentation([[viewController.myViewController myImage]image]); //Write the file out! NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *path_to_file = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingString:@"lastimage.png"]; [data writeToFile:path_to_file atomically:YES]; NSLog(@"Data saved."); } and then I load it back like so (in my view controller, under viewDidLoad): NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *path_to_file = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingString:@"lastimage.png"]; if([[NSFileManager defaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:path_to_file]) { NSLog(@"Found saved file, loading in image"); NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:path_to_file]; UIImage *temp = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:data]; myViewController.myImage.image = temp; NSLog(@"Finished loading in image"); } This code works every time on the simulator, but on the device, it can never seem to load back in the image. I'm pretty sure that it saves out, but I have no view of the filesystem. Am I doing something weird? Does the simulator have a different way to access its directories than the device? Thanks!

  • How to toggle orientation lock in android?

    - by pixel
I want to create checkbox in my preference Activity that allows user to toggle orientation change. In similar questions people write only about complete orientation lock (by overriding onConfigurationChanged method or adding configChanges in AndroidManifest.xml) or orientation enforcing ( by setRequestedOrientation ). Is there a way to toggle orientation lock?

  • EXC_BAD_ACCESS signal received

    - by Hector Ramos
When deploying the application to the device, the program will quit after a few cycles with the following error: Program received signal: "EXC_BAD_ACCESS". The program runs without any issue on the iPhone simulator, it will also debug and run as long as I step through the instructions one at a time. As soon as I let it run again, I will hit the EXC_BAD_ACCESS signal. In this particular case, it happened to be an error in the accelerometer code. It would not execute within the simulator, which is why it did not throw any errors. However, it would execute once deployed to the device. Most of the answers to this question deal with the general EXC_BAD_ACCESS error, so I will leave this open as a catch-all for the dreaded Bad Access error. EXC_BAD_ACCESS is typically thrown as the result of an illegal memory access. You can find more information in the answers below. Have you encountered the EXC_BAD_ACCESS signal before, and how did you deal with it?

  • First Letter Section Headers with Core Data

    - by Cory Imdieke
I'm trying to create a list of people sorted in a tableView of sections with the first letter as the title for each section - a la Address Book. I've got it all working, though there is a bit of an issue with the sort order. Here is the way I'm doing it now: NSFetchRequest *request = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [request setEntity:[NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Contact" inManagedObjectContext:context]]; NSSortDescriptor *fullName = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"fullName" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:fullName, nil]; [request setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; [fullName release]; [sortDescriptors release]; NSError *error = nil; [resultController release]; resultController = [[NSFetchedResultsController alloc] initWithFetchRequest:request managedObjectContext:context sectionNameKeyPath:@"firstLetter" cacheName:nil]; [resultController performFetch:&error]; [request release]; fullName is a standard property, and firstLetter is a transient property which returns - as you'd expect - the first letter of the fullName. 95% of the time, this works perfectly. The problem is the result controller expects these two "lists" (the sorted fullName list and the sorted firstLetter list) to match exactly. If I have 2 contacts like John and Jack, my fullName list would sort these as Jack, John every time but my firstLetter list might sort them as John, Jack sometimes as it's only sorting by the first letter and leaving the rest to chance. When these lists don't match up, I get a blank tableView with 0 items in it. I'm not really sure how I should go about fixing this issue, but it's very frustrating. Has anyone else run into this? What did you guys find out?

  • Detecting iPhone camera orientation

    - by Stephen Petschulat
I'm getting inconsistent results depending on whether I get the image directly from the camera in the callback or choosing it from the camera roll. In the UIImagePickerControllerDelegate callback method, the UIImage.imageOrientation comes up as UIImageOrientationRight no matter how the photo is taken. When reading it off the Camera Roll, a landscape shot (turned left) comes up UIImageOrientationUp while a portrait shot comes up UIImageOrientationRight. How can I reliably get the camera orientation in both situations?
