  • OS X: How can I copy the shell path to clipboard?

    - by lexu
When working with files on my mac I employ a mixed approach of shell/finder or keyboard/mouse, similar to working with 4NT and Explorer on Windows. One thing I use(d) extensively on Windows is to copy the path of the current directory to the clipboard. This is an extended feature of TakeCommand by JPSoft, on Windows. Is there a way to copy the current path from the bash shell to the mac's clipboard, so I can use it in 'file open' and/or similar dialogues?

  • Samsung "Kies via Wifi" doesn't work, stuck on "Loading..."

    - by eyalb99
When I connect my Galaxy S2 to my laptop using "Kies via Wifi" it doesn't work. On my phone it tells me it is connected, and on the laptop I can see the device "GT-I9100" under connected devices, but I see no files or anything else. When I move the mouse icon over the "GT-I9100", it writes "Loading...". I've waited long enough but nothing happens. When I connect the phone using USB cable, it works perfectly fine.

  • Random Computer Crashes

    - by Josh W.
Ok, here's a wierd one for you all. Occasionally my PC here at work will crash in a very peculiar way. My dual monitors will suddenly go blank as if there is no longer a video signal, the USB mouse light will go dark and mouse stays unresponsive, the keyboard lights will not change status when the appropriate keys are pressed (Num/Caps/Scoll Lock). The CD Tray WILL open and close. But the computer will not respond to a ping request. For all intents & purposes it's as if the computer is off, except it wasn't intentional by me. The power light and internal fans are still on and I've now lost any unsaved work. Now here's where it gets wierd. This PC is part of a batch of PC's we got from a local vendor who does our initial system builds. Mine, and 6 other co-workers PCs all have the same issue. Originally we thought it was a bad combination of hardware, but through trial and error the only thing we haven't eliminated are the OS, Mobo & CPU. The problem was so bad for some of them that they ended up going back to their 5 year old dinosaurs in order to get some work done, for me the problem isn't as bad, maybe once every other day or so, but still enough to bite me in the ass if I've forgotten my ritualistic pressing of CTRL-S every 1-5 minutes. In this case we've tried two different video cards, two different power supplies, two different memory configurations, running on a UPS/not on UPS, updating/rolling back video drivers, three different bios revisions. The only things we haven't swapped are the mobo & cpu, mainly because a new mobo means a new Hardware Abstraction Layer, ie re-install of windows and there's alot of other software on this PC that takes forever to reload by hand. There was a base image that our systems team created with all the drivers installed and the basic setup of software our company uses, but they then must customize the setup for us programmers so it takes a while to get a new configuration up and going. I'm a programmer by day and am usually pretty good at diagnosing computer problems whether through trial and error or not. We've pretty much exhausted all the ideas we can think of here, short of a new mobo/cpu. Was hoping someone out there might have anything else we can try.. • Change the delay before the Taskbar expands

    - by Will
I like to keep my Taskbar collapsed on my laptop. Unfortunately, this plus the lack of precision control that the touchpad brings, I am constantly accidentally expanding the taskbar. What I'd like is to lengthen the delay time between when the cursor nears the taskbar and when it expands. Extra points for controlling the behavior differently for mouse input and for touch input.

  • marking text in Windows 7's command prompt

    - by Jonathan
I use Windows 7's command prompt (cmd.exe) for various tasks. In order to copy text from it, I right click and choose Mark, and then mark the text I want to copy. Sometimes while doing this, the marking doesn't stick. The minute I release the left mouse button after marking the text, the marking disappears. This has happened on every Windows 7 installation I've ever installed. How do I solve this?

  • Reverse KVM solution

    - by aksamit
I need to setup a computer so that it can be operated from two locations. The locations are about 20 meter from each other and the user wants the experience to be the same from both locations, i.e. no remote desktop or anything like that and preferably a seamless switch. So basically I need a double set of, monitor, keyboard and mouse, and then of course link it together by some kind of suitable hardware.

  • Make Google Chrome's minimise, restore and close buttons look like other programs?

    - by TRiG
I like the way Google Chrome puts the tabs above the address bar, but I don't like the way the minimise, restore, close buttons are a different shape to every other program's. It means that if I sit the mouse in the top corner and minimise everything, I find that I've restored Chrome, not minimised it. Is there any way to get these buttons to a normal shape and size? That's Firefox in front, looking normal, like every other program, and Chrome above and behind, with the buttons at an off-standard position and size.

  • How do I press CTRL+T when on youtube?

    - by bobobobo
On Youtube.com the flash applet seems to suck the input focus. Shortcuts like CTRL+T or ALT don't seem to work. How can you make a new window without having to touch the mouse (keyboard only) when on youtube.com or other sites that have a flash app that traps keystrokes?

  • How to sleep computer via batch file? (Windows 7)

    - by Saebin
So I want to make a batch file that will sleep my computer after a period of time. The closest thing I have found is placing it in standby, but seems to work differently then the sleep button on my keyboard (longer bootup, doesn't wake on mouse click). Any ideas? Would it be easier in python or c#? The less then ideal technique mentioned above is calling this in the cmd prompt: Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState

  • Closing programs with middle-click in windows 7

    - by JoePerkins
Is this possible? I want to close programs in the taskbar with middle-click, like tabs in firefox. The best approach I have so far is waiting for the mini-view that pops up when you point with the mouse in the taskbar and then middle-clicking there, but I would like to close them directly.

  • Hidden features of Ubuntu

    - by Tom Brito
That I know: In command line, use TAB to autocomplete the commands. You need just to select a text to copy it, and use mouse middle button to paste. Which other "untold" secrets Ubuntu hides? obs. I don't know which of the items I told are for any Linux or Ubuntu specific.

  • Windows 7 Virtual PC + Linux Ubuntu

    - by Daniel Henry
I've installed Ubuntu inside a virtual machine running on Windows 7's Virtual PC. One thing I've noticed right away is that it has to capture the mouse and not all the hardware works as expected. I didn't have such problems in my virtual Windows XP. Is there anything I need to do to either Virtual PC or within Ubuntu that will get them to cooperate as well as Windows XP seems to?

  • Photoshop 5.5 won't start after upgrading to windows 7 from vista

    - by Great Dreams
I have photoshop 5.5 working just fine under windows vista, I upgraded my PC to windows 7 and when I start photoshop 5.5 it just hangs. I see the main screen open but nothing happens and I just get the busy sign out of the mouse pointer, with Photoshop not completing the start. I searched online and some reported the same issue and were able to solve the issue by deleting Photoshop setting or preference file. I did that, but still the issue is present.

  • Capture screen with fixed region

    - by user62046
I would like to know if there is a systematical way (software) to capture a fixed region on the screen, under Windows 7 or OS X. It must be accurate about the region. I always want to capture the region with left-top coordinate (300, 300) and right-bottome coordinate (800, 800). So I can't not select the region by mouse myself. A software to do this capture should let me to input the 2 coordinates.

  • Photoshop: left-handed copy/paste?

    - by Diodeus
Being left-handed, I use the mouse in my left hand. In most applications I use CTRL+INSERT/SHIFT+INSERT to copy and paste (with my right hand). For some bone-headed reason, this is not supported in Photoshop, so I have to use right-click COPY sub-menus, which is a lot slower. Is there a way to configure Photoshop to use CTRL+INSERT to copy and SHIFT+INSERT to paste?
