• Question on Scala Closure (From "Programming in Scala")

- by Ekkmanz
I don't understand why authors said that Code Listing 9.1 from "Programming in Scala" use closure. In chapter 9, they show how to refactor code into more less duplicated form, from this original code: object FileMatcher { private def filesHere = (new java.io.File(".")).listFiles def filesEnding(query: String) = for (file <- filesHere; if file.getName.endsWith(query)) yield file def filesContaining(query: String) = for (file <- filesHere; if file.getName.contains(query)) yield file def filesRegex(query: String) = for (file <- filesHere; if file.getName.matches(query)) yield file } To the second version: object FileMatcher { private def filesHere = (new java.io.File(".")).listFiles def filesMatching(query: String, matcher: (String, String) => Boolean) = { for (file <- filesHere; if matcher(file.getName, query)) yield file } def filesEnding(query: String) = filesMatching(query, _.endsWith(_)) def filesContaining(query: String) = filesMatching(query, _.contains(_)) def filesRegex(query: String) = filesMatching(query, _.matches(_)) } Which they said that there is no use of closure here. Now I understand until this point. However they introduced the use of closure to refactor even some more, shown in Listing 9.1: object FileMatcher { private def filesHere = (new java.io.File(".")).listFiles private def filesMatching(matcher: String => Boolean) = for (file <- filesHere; if matcher(file.getName)) yield file def filesEnding(query: String) = filesMatching(_.endsWith(query)) def filesContaining(query: String) = filesMatching(_.contains(query)) def filesRegex(query: String) = filesMatching(_.matches(query)) } Now they said that query is a free variable but I don't really understand why they said so? Since ""query"" seems to be passed from top method down to string matching function explicitly.

• FLEX: videoDisplay.addEventListener(VideoEvent.PLAYHEAD_UPDATE) doesn't work

- by Patrick
hi, the PLAYHEAD_UPDATE event is not triggered by my videoDisplay component in Flex. If I add the attribute playheadUpdate="playUpdate()" everything works fine. But in the following code, the method "playUpdate()" is not triggered... thanks <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical" creationComplete="init()"> <mx:Script> import mx.events.VideoEvent private function init():void { ... videoD.addEventListener(VideoEvent.PLAYHEAD_UPDATE, playUpdate); } private function thumbPressed():void { videoD.removeEventListener(VideoEvent.PLAYHEAD_UPDATE, playUpdate); } private function thumbReleased():void { videoD.addEventListener(VideoEvent.PLAYHEAD_UPDATE, playUpdate); } private function playUpdate():void { debugF.text = "OK"; slider.value = videoD.playheadTime; } </mx:Script> <mx:VideoDisplay id="videoD" autoPlay="{autoPlayOption}" source="{videoPath}" click="togglePlay()" /> The text OK is not displayed, and the slider is not updated. As I mentioned before, adding the attribute in MXML, works, instead.

• Capturing unhandled exceptions in .Net 2.0. Wrong event called.

- by SoMoS
Hello, I'm investigating a bit about how the unhandled exceptions are managed in .Net and I'm getting unexpected results that I would like to share with you to see what do you think about. The first one is pretty simple to see. I wrote this code to do the test, just a button that throws an Exception on the same thread that created the Form: Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Throw New Exception() End Sub Private Sub UnhandledException(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As UnhandledExceptionEventArgs) MsgBox(String.Format("Exception: {0}. Ending: {1}. AppDomain: {2}", CType(e.ExceptionObject, Exception).Message, e.IsTerminating.ToString(), AppDomain.CurrentDomain.FriendlyName)) End Sub Private Sub UnhandledThreadException(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Threading.ThreadExceptionEventArgs) MsgBox(String.Format("Exception: {0}. AppDomain: {1}", e.Exception.Message(), AppDomain.CurrentDomain.FriendlyName)) End Sub Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load AddHandler AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException, AddressOf UnhandledException AddHandler Application.ThreadException, AddressOf UnhandledThreadException End Sub End Class When I execute the code inside the Visual Studio the UnhandledException is called as expected but when I execute the application from Windows the UndhanledThreadException is called instead. ¿?¿?¿¿?¿? Someone has any idea of what can be happening here? Thanks in advance.

• "Admin module" taking over [Yii framework]

- by Flavius
Hi I have an "admin" module and I want it to serve "dynamic controllers", i.e. to provide a default behaviour for controllers which don't really exist ("virtual controllers"). I've invented a lightweight messaging mechanism for loose communication between modules. I'd like to use it such that when e.g. ?r=admin/users/index is requested, it will call the "virtual controller" "UserController" of AdminModule, which would, by default, use this messaging mechanism to notify the real module "UsersModule" it can answer to the request. I thought about simulating this behaviour in AdminModule::init(), but at that point I have no way of deciding whether the action can be processed by a real controller or not, or at least I don't know how to do it. This is because of the way Yii works: bottom-up, the controller is the one that renders the view AND the application layout (or the module's, if it exists), for example. I don't think the module even has a word to say about handling a given controller+action or not. To recap, I'm looking for a kind of CWebModule::missingController($controllerId,$actionId), just like CController::missingAction($actionId), or a workaround to simulate that. That would possibly be in CWebModule::init() or somewhere where I can find out whether the controller actually exists, in which case it's his job to handle it the $actionID and $controllerID whether the module $controllerID exists (I didn't type it wrong, in r=admin/users/index, "users" is the actual module, as specified in the application's config).

• Asynchronous HTTP Client for Java

- by helifreak
As a relative newbie in the Java world, I am finding many things frustratingly obtuse to accomplish that are relatively trivial in many other frameworks. A primary example is a simple solution for asynchronous http requests. Seeing as one doesn't seem to already exist, what is the best approach? Creating my own threads using a blocking type lib like httpclient or the built-in java http stuff, or should I use the newer non-blocking io java stuff - it seems particularly complex for something which should be simple. What I am looking for is something easy to use from a developer point of view - something similar to URLLoader in AS3 - where you simply create a URLRequest - attach a bunch of event handlers to handle the completion, errors, progress, etc, and call a method to fire it off. If you are not familiar with URLLoader in AS3, its so super easy and looks something like this: private void getURL(String url) { URLLoader loader = new URLLoader(); loader.addEventListener(Event.Complete, completeHandler); loader.addEventListener(HTTPStatusEvent.HTTP_STATUS, httpStatusHandler); loader.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, ioErrorHandler); URLRequest request = new URLRequest(url); // fire it off - this is asynchronous so we handle // completion with event handlers loader.load(request); } private void completeHandler(Event event) { URLLoader loader = (URLLoader)event.target; Object results = loader.data; // process results } private void httpStatusHandler(Event event) { // check status code } private void ioErrorHandler(Event event) { // handle errors }

• How to use webbrowser control DocumentCompleted event in C# ?

- by Margus
Before starting writing this question, i was trying to solve following // 1. navigate to page // 2. wait until page is downloaded // 3. read and write some data from/to iframe // 4. submit (post) form The problem was, that if a iframe exists on a web page, DocumentCompleted event would get fired more then once (after each document has been completed). It was highly likely that program would have tried to read data from DOM that was not completed and naturally - fail. But suddenly while writing this question 'What if' monster inspired me, and i fix'ed the problem, that i was trying to solve. As i failed Google'ing this, i thought it would be nice to post it here. private int iframe_counter = 1; // needs to be 1, to pass DCF test public bool isLazyMan = default(bool); ///
/// LOCK to stop inspecting DOM before DCF ///
public void waitPolice() { while (isLazyMan) Application.DoEvents(); } private void webBrowser1_Navigating(object sender, WebBrowserNavigatingEventArgs e) { if(!e.TargetFrameName.Equals("")) iframe_counter --; isLazyMan = true; } private void webBrowser1_DocumentCompleted(object sender, WebBrowserDocumentCompletedEventArgs e) { if (!((WebBrowser)sender).Document.Url.Equals(e.Url)) iframe_counter++; if (((WebBrowser)sender).Document.Window.Frames.Count <= iframe_counter) {//DCF test DocumentCompletedFully((WebBrowser)sender,e); isLazyMan = false; } } private void DocumentCompletedFully(WebBrowser sender, WebBrowserDocumentCompletedEventArgs e){ //code here } For now at least, my 5m hack seems to be working fine. Maybe i am really failing at querying google or MSDN, but i can not find: "How to use webbrowser control DocumentCompleted event in C# ?"

• Help me understand these generic method warnings

- by Raj
Folks, I have a base class, say: public class BaseType { private String id; ... } and then three subclasses: public class TypeA extends BaseType { ... } public class TypeB extends BaseType { ... } public class TypeC extends BaseType { ... } I have a container class that maintains lists of objects of these types: public class Container { private List<TypeA> aList; private List<TypeB> bList; private List<TypeC> cList; // finder method goes here } And now I want to add a finder method to container that will find an object from one of the lists. The finder method is written as follows: public <T extends BaseType> T find( String id, Class<T> clazz ) { final List<T> collection; if( clazz == TypeA.class ) { collection = (List<T>)aList; } else if( clazz == TypeB.class ) { collection = (List<T>)bList; } else if( clazz == TypeC.class ) { collection = (List<T>)cList; } else return null; for( final BaseType value : collection ) { if( value.getId().equals( id ) ) { return (T)value; } } return null; } My question is this: If I don't add all the casts to T in my finder above, I get compile errors. I think the compile should be able to infer the types based on parametrization of the generic method (). Can anyone explain this? Thanks. -Raj

• DataGridView not displaying data in ToolStripDropDown

- by jblaske
I'm utilizing the code posted by Jesper Palm here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/280891/make-user-control-display-outside-of-form-boundry ///
/// A simple popup window that can host any System.Windows.Forms.Control ///
public class PopupWindow : System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripDropDown { private System.Windows.Forms.Control _content; private System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripControlHost _host; public PopupWindow(System.Windows.Forms.Control content) { //Basic setup... this.AutoSize = false; this.DoubleBuffered = true; this.ResizeRedraw = true; this._content = content; this._host = new System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripControlHost(content); //Positioning and Sizing this.MinimumSize = content.MinimumSize; this.MaximumSize = content.Size; this.Size = content.Size; content.Location = Point.Empty; //Add the host to the list this.Items.Add(this._host); } } I've translated it to VB: Public Class PopupWindow Inherits System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripDropDown Private _content As System.Windows.Forms.Control Private _host As System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripControlHost Public Sub New(ByVal content As System.Windows.Forms.Control) Me.AutoSize = False Me.DoubleBuffered = True Me.ResizeRedraw = True Me._content = content Me._host = New System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripControlHost(content) Me.MinimumSize = content.MinimumSize Me.MaximumSize = content.MaximumSize Me.Size = content.Size content.Location = Point.Empty Me.Items.Add(Me._host) End Sub End Class It works great with a PictureBox showing its information. But for some reason I cannot get the DataGridView to display anything when it is in the popup. If I pull the grid out of the popup it displays all of its information fine. If I pause during debug, the grid shows that it has all the data in it. It's just not displaying anything. Does anybody have any ideas?

• WCF: Serializing and Deserializing generic collections

- by Fabiano
I have a class Team that holds a generic list: [DataContract(Name = "TeamDTO", IsReference = true)] public class Team { [DataMember] private IList<Person> members = new List<Person>(); public Team() { Init(); } private void Init() { members = new List<Person>(); } [System.Runtime.Serialization.OnDeserializing] protected void OnDeserializing(StreamingContext ctx) { Log("OnDeserializing of Team called"); Init(); if (members != null) Log(members.ToString()); } [System.Runtime.Serialization.OnSerializing] private void OnSerializing(StreamingContext ctx) { Log("OnSerializing of Team called"); if (members != null) Log(members.ToString()); } [System.Runtime.Serialization.OnDeserialized] protected void OnDeserialized(StreamingContext ctx) { Log("OnDeserialized of Team called"); if (members != null) Log(members.ToString()); } [System.Runtime.Serialization.OnSerialized] private void OnSerialized(StreamingContext ctx) { Log("OnSerialized of Team called"); Log(members.ToString()); } When I use this class in a WCF service, I get following log output OnSerializing of Team called System.Collections.Generic.List 1[Person] OnSerialized of Team called System.Collections.Generic.List 1[Person] OnDeserializing of Team called System.Collections.Generic.List 1[ENetLogic.ENetPerson.Model.FirstPartyPerson] OnDeserialized of Team called ENetLogic.ENetPerson.Model.Person[] After the deserialization members is an Array and no longer a generic list although the field type is IList< (?!) When I try to send this object back over the WCF service I get the log output OnSerializing of Team called ENetLogic.ENetPerson.Model.FirstPartyPerson[] After this my unit test crashes with a System.ExecutionEngineException, which means the WCF service is not able to serialize the array. (maybe because it expected a IList<) So, my question is: Does anybody know why the type of my IList< is an array after deserializing and why I can't serialize my Team object any longer after that? Thanks

• Problem with serialization of svcutil synthetized classes

- by user295502
I used svcutil to generate classes to access the web service. I need to serialize them. The class is quite simple, here is how it looks [System.Diagnostics.DebuggerStepThroughAttribute()] [System.CodeDom.Compiler.GeneratedCodeAttribute("System.Runtime.Serialization", "3.0.0.0")] [System.Runtime.Serialization.DataContractAttribute(Name="cosemAttributeDescriptor", Namespace="http://www.energiened.nl/Content/Publications/dsmr/P32")] public partial class cosemAttributeDescriptor : object, System.Runtime.Serialization.IExtensibleDataObject { private System.Runtime.Serialization.ExtensionDataObject extensionDataField; private ushort ClassIdField; private string InstanceIdField; private sbyte AttributeIdField; public System.Runtime.Serialization.ExtensionDataObject ExtensionData { get { return this.extensionDataField; } set { this.extensionDataField = value; } } [System.Runtime.Serialization.DataMemberAttribute(IsRequired=true)] public ushort ClassId { get { return this.ClassIdField; } set { this.ClassIdField = value; } } [System.Runtime.Serialization.DataMemberAttribute(IsRequired=true, EmitDefaultValue=false)] public string InstanceId { get { return this.InstanceIdField; } set { this.InstanceIdField = value; } } [System.Runtime.Serialization.DataMemberAttribute(IsRequired=true, Order=2)] public sbyte AttributeId { get { return this.AttributeIdField; } set { this.AttributeIdField = value; } } } Now, the problem is I can't serialize the class. Here is the serialization code: cosemAttributeDescriptor cAttrD = new cosemAttributeDescriptor(); cAttrD.ClassId = 3; cAttrD.InstanceId = "0100010800FF"; cAttrD.AttributeId = 0; DataContractSerializer dSer = new DataContractSerializer(typeof(cosemAttributeDescriptor)); StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); XmlWriter xW = XmlWriter.Create(sb); dSer.WriteObject(xW, cAttrD); When I try to serialize the class, I get empty string. Any thoughts?

• More efficient way to find media item in WMP media library?

- by RoseOfJericho
Hello, all. I am messing around with the WMPLib component provided by Windows Media Player 12 (wmp.dll) in VB.NET with .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. I am trying to retrieve a media item from my media library based on its name (assuming there are no duplicate names). At the moment, I'm grabbing the entire media library, and looping through every media item, and quitting the loop when I've found the correct media item. This works well (except for when a media item with that name cannot be found), but I was hoping there was a more efficient way of doing this. Here is my code so far: Public Class WMPTest Private myWMP As WMPLib.IWMPCore Private myMediaCollection As WMPLib.IWMPMediaCollection Private myTrack As WMPLib.IWMPMedia Private allTracks As WMPLib.IWMPPlaylist Public Sub New() ' This call is required by the Windows Form Designer. InitializeComponent() ' Add any initialization after the InitializeComponent() call. myWMP = New WMPLib.WindowsMediaPlayer myMediaCollection = myWMP.mediaCollection allTracks = myMediaCollection.getAll Dim theTrack As WMPLib.IWMPMedia = findTrack("Yellow Submarine") MessageBox.Show(theTrack.name) End Sub Public Function findTrack(ByVal strTrackName As String) As WMPLib.IWMPMedia For i As Integer = 0 To (allTracks.count - 1) If allTracks.Item(i).name = strTrackName Then myTrack = allTracks.Item(i) Exit For End If Next 'myTrack is now the track that we wanted to retrieve Return myTrack End Function End Class So what I really want is a way to optimize findTrack() to do its thing without looping through the entire media library (which could be huge). Anyone have a clue?

• Flex textarea control not updating properly.

- by ielashi
I am writing a flex application that involves modifying a textarea very frequently. I have encountered issues with the textarea sometimes not displaying my modifications. The following actionscript code illustrates my problem: <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" minWidth="955" minHeight="600"> <mx:TextArea x="82" y="36" width="354" height="291" id="textArea" creationComplete="initApp()"/> <mx:Script> private var testSentence:String = "The big brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."; private var testCounter:int = 0; private function initApp():void { var timer:Timer = new Timer(10); timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, playSentence); timer.start(); } private function playSentence(event:TimerEvent):void { textArea.editable = false; if (testCounter == testSentence.length) { testCounter = 0; textArea.text += "\n"; } else { textArea.text += testSentence.charAt(testCounter++); } textArea.editable = true; } </mx:Script> </mx:Application> When you run the above code in a flex project, it should repeatedly print, character by character, the sentence "The big brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.". But, if you are typing into the textarea at the same time, you will notice the text the timer prints is distorted. I am really curious as to why this happens. The single-threaded nature of flex and disabling user input for the textarea when I make modifications should prevent this from happening, but for some reason this doesn't seem to be working. I must note too that, when running the timer at larger intervals (around 100ms) it seems to work perfectly, so I am tempted to think it's some kind of synchronization issue in the internals of the flex framework. Any ideas on what could be causing the problem?

Hello i have a problem disposing class in Dictionary this is my code private Dictionary<string, MyProcessor> Processors = new Dictionary<string, MyProcessor>(); private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!Processors.ContainsKey(textBox1.Text)) { Processors.Add(textBox1.Text, new MyProcessor()); } } private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { MyProcessor currnt_processor = Processors[textBox1.Text]; Processors.Remove(textBox2.Text); currnt_processor.Dispose(); currnt_processor = null; GC.Collect(); } public class MyProcessor: IDisposable { private bool isDisposed = false; string x = ""; public MyProcessor() { for (int i = 0; i < 20000; i++) { //this line only to increase the memory usage to know if the class is dispose or not x = x + "gggggggggggg"; } this.Dispose(); GC.SuppressFinalize(this); } public void Dispose() { this.Dispose(true); GC.SuppressFinalize(this); } public void Dispose(bool disposing) { if (!this.isDisposed) { isDisposed = true; this.Dispose(); } } ~MyProcessor() { Dispose(false); } } i use "ANTS Memory Profiler" to monitor heap memory the disposing work only when i remove all keys from dictionary how can i destroy the class from heap memory ? thanks in advance

• How can I mock this asynchronous method?

- by Charlie
I have a class that roughly looks like this: public class ViewModel { public ViewModel(IWebService service) { this.WebService = service; } private IWebService WebService{get;set;} private IEnumerable<SomeData> MyData{get;set;} private void GetReferenceData() { this.WebService.BeginGetStaticReferenceData(GetReferenceDataOnComplete, null); } private void GetReferenceDataOnComplete(IAsyncResult result) { this.MyData = this.WebService.EndGetStaticReferenceData(result); } . . . } I want to mock my IWebService interface so that when BeginGetStaticReferenceData is called it is able to call the callback method. I'm using Moq and I can't work out how to do this. My unit test set up code looks something like: //Arrange var service = new Mock<IWebService>(); service.Setup(x => x.BeginGetStaticReferenceData(/*.......don't know.....*/)); service.Setup(x => x.EndGetStaticReferenceData(It.IsAny<IAsyncResult>())).Returns(new List<SomeData>{new SomeData{Name="blah"}}); var viewModel = new ViewModel(service.Object); . .

• FileInputStream throws NullPointerException.

- by Mohamed
I am getting nullpointerexception, don't know what actually is causing it. I read from java docs that fileinputstream only throws securityexception so don't understand why this exception pops up. here is my code snippet. private Properties prop = new Properties(); private String settings_file_name = "settings.properties"; private String settings_dir = "\\.autograder\\"; public Properties get_settings() { String path = this.get_settings_directory(); System.out.println(path + this.settings_dir + this.settings_file_name); if (this.settings_exist(path)) { try { FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(path + this.settings_dir + this.settings_file_name); this.prop.load(in); in.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } else { this.create_settings_file(path); try{ this.prop.load(new FileInputStream(path + this.settings_dir + this.settings_file_name)); }catch (IOException ex){ //ex.printStackTrace(); } } return this.prop; } private String get_settings_directory() { String user_home = System.getProperty("user.home"); if (user_home == null) { throw new IllegalStateException("user.home==null"); } return user_home; } and here is my stacktrace: C:\Users\mohamed\.autograder\settings.properties Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException at autograder.Settings.get_settings(Settings.java:41) at autograder.Application.start(Application.java:20) at autograder.Main.main(Main.java:19) Java Result: 1 BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 0 seconds) Line 41 is: this.prop.load(in);

• Jackson object mapping - map incoming JSON field to protected property in base class

- by Pete
We use Jersey/Jackson for our REST application. Incoming JSON strings get mapped to the @Entity objects in the backend by Jackson to be persisted. The problem arises from the base class that we use for all entities. It has a protected id property, which we want to exchange via REST as well so that when we send an object that has dependencies, hibernate will automatically fetch these dependencies by their ids. Howevery, Jackson does not access the setter, even if we override it in the subclass to be public. We also tried using @JsonSetter but to no avail. Probably Jackson just looks at the base class and sees ID is not accessible so it skips setting it... @MappedSuperclass public abstract class AbstractPersistable<PK extends Serializable> implements Persistable<PK> { @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO) private PK id; public PK getId() { return id; } protected void setId(final PK id) { this.id = id; } Subclasses: public class A extends AbstractPersistable<Long> { private String name; } public class B extends AbstractPersistable<Long> { private A a; private int value; // getter, setter // make base class setter accessible @Override @JsonSetter("id") public void setId(Long id) { super.setId(id); } } Now if there are some As in our database and we want to create a new B via the REST resource: @POST @Consumes(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON) @Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON) @Transactional public Response create(B b) { if (b.getA().getId() == null) cry(); } with a JSON String like this {"a":{"id":"1","name":"foo"},"value":"123"}. The incoming B will have the A reference but without an ID. Is there any way to tell Jackson to either ignore the base class setter or tell it to use the subclass setter instead? I've just found out about @JsonTypeInfo but I'm not sure this is what I need or how to use it. Thanks for any help!

• Why ComboBox hides cursor when DroppedDown is set?

- by Ivan Danilov
Let's create WinForms Application (I have Visual Studio 2008 running on Windows Vista, but it seems that described situation takes place almost everywhere from Win98 to Vista, on native or managed code). Write such code: using System; using System.Drawing; using System.Windows.Forms; namespace WindowsFormsApplication1 { public class Form1 : Form { private readonly Button button1 = new Button(); private readonly ComboBox comboBox1 = new ComboBox(); private readonly TextBox textBox1 = new TextBox(); public Form1() { SuspendLayout(); textBox1.Location = new Point(21, 51); button1.Location = new Point(146, 49); button1.Text = "button1"; button1.Click += button1_Click; comboBox1.Items.AddRange(new[] {"1", "2", "3", "4", "5", "6"}); comboBox1.Location = new Point(21, 93); AcceptButton = button1; Controls.AddRange(new Control[] {textBox1, comboBox1, button1}); Text = "Form1"; ResumeLayout(false); PerformLayout(); } private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { comboBox1.DroppedDown = true; } } } Then, run app. Place mouse cursor on the form and don't touch mouse anymore. Start to type something in TextBox - cursor will hide because of it. When you press Enter key - event throws and ComboBox will be dropped down. But now cursor won't appear even if you move it! And appears only when you click somewhere. There I've found discussion of this problem. But there's no good solution... Any thoughts? :)

• Trend analysis using iterative value increments

- by Dave Jarvis
We have configured iReport to generate the following graph: The real data points are in blue, the trend line is green. The problems include: Too many data points for the trend line Trend line does not follow a Bezier curve (spline) The source of the problem is with the incrementer class. The incrementer is provided with the data points iteratively. There does not appear to be a way to get the set of data. The code that calculates the trend line looks as follows: import java.math.BigDecimal; import net.sf.jasperreports.engine.fill.*; /** * Used by an iReport variable to increment its average. */ public class MovingAverageIncrementer implements JRIncrementer { private BigDecimal average; private int incr = 0; /** * Instantiated by the MovingAverageIncrementerFactory class. */ public MovingAverageIncrementer() { } /** * Returns the newly incremented value, which is calculated by averaging * the previous value from the previous call to this method. * * @param jrFillVariable Unused. * @param object New data point to average. * @param abstractValueProvider Unused. * @return The newly incremented value. */ public Object increment( JRFillVariable jrFillVariable, Object object, AbstractValueProvider abstractValueProvider ) { BigDecimal value = new BigDecimal( ( ( Number )object ).doubleValue() ); // Average every 10 data points // if( incr % 10 == 0 ) { setAverage( ( value.add( getAverage() ).doubleValue() / 2.0 ) ); } incr++; return getAverage(); } /** * Changes the value that is the moving average. * @param average The new moving average value. */ private void setAverage( BigDecimal average ) { this.average = average; } /** * Returns the current moving average average. * @return Value used for plotting on a report. */ protected BigDecimal getAverage() { if( this.average == null ) { this.average = new BigDecimal( 0 ); } return this.average; } /** Helper method. */ private void setAverage( double d ) { setAverage( new BigDecimal( d ) ); } } How would you create a smoother and more accurate representation of the trend line?
