Can I use triggers to insert or update tables in a linked server? I tried it and got the following error: Unable to start a nested transaction for OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB'. A nested transaction was required because the XACT_ABORT option was set to OFF. [OLE/DB provider returned message: Cannot start more transactions on this session.] OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' ITransactionLocal::StartTransaction returned 0x8004d013: ISOLEVEL=4096].

  • Tomcat JNDI Connection Pool docs - Random Connection Closed Exceptions

    - by Andy Faibishenko
    I found this in the Tomcat documentation here What I don't understand is why they close all the JDBC objects twice - once in the try{} block and once in the finally{} block. Why not just close them once in the finally{} clause? This is the relevant docs: Random Connection Closed Exceptions These can occur when one request gets a db connection from the connection pool and closes it twice. When using a connection pool, closing the connection just returns it to the pool for reuse by another request, it doesn't close the connection. And Tomcat uses multiple threads to handle concurrent requests. Here is an example of the sequence of events which could cause this error in Tomcat: Request 1 running in Thread 1 gets a db connection. Request 1 closes the db connection. The JVM switches the running thread to Thread 2 Request 2 running in Thread 2 gets a db connection (the same db connection just closed by Request 1). The JVM switches the running thread back to Thread 1 Request 1 closes the db connection a second time in a finally block. The JVM switches the running thread back to Thread 2 Request 2 Thread 2 tries to use the db connection but fails because Request 1 closed it. Here is an example of properly written code to use a db connection obtained from a connection pool: Connection conn = null; Statement stmt = null; // Or PreparedStatement if needed ResultSet rs = null; try { conn = ... get connection from connection pool ... stmt = conn.createStatement("select ..."); rs = stmt.executeQuery(); ... iterate through the result set ... rs.close(); rs = null; stmt.close(); stmt = null; conn.close(); // Return to connection pool conn = null; // Make sure we don't close it twice } catch (SQLException e) { ... deal with errors ... } finally { // Always make sure result sets and statements are closed, // and the connection is returned to the pool if (rs != null) { try { rs.close(); } catch (SQLException e) { ; } rs = null; } if (stmt != null) { try { stmt.close(); } catch (SQLException e) { ; } stmt = null; } if (conn != null) { try { conn.close(); } catch (SQLException e) { ; } conn = null; } }

  • Seam unit test can't connect to JBoss4.0.5GA

    - by user240423
Does anybody know how to connect with JBoss4.0.5GA in Seam2.2.0GA unit test? I'm using Seam2.2.0GA with the embeded JBoss to run the unit test, the module needs to call old JBoss server (EJB2, because the vendor locked in JCA has to deploy on old JBoss). it's typical seam test case, and I can't get it connect to JBoss4.0.5GA by using jbossall-client.jar from JBoss4.0.5GA. so far I tested the embeded JBoss can only working with JBoss5.X server. with JBoss4.2.3GA, it report: [testng] java.rmi.MarshalException: Failed to communicate. Problem during marshalling/unmarshalling; nested exception is: [testng] java.net.SocketException: end of file [testng] at org.jboss.remoting.transport.socket.SocketClientInvoker.handleException(SocketClientInvoker.java:122) [testng] at org.jboss.remoting.transport.socket.MicroSocketClientInvoker.transport(MicroSocketClientInvoker.java:679) [testng] at org.jboss.remoting.MicroRemoteClientInvoker.invoke(MicroRemoteClientInvoker.java:122) [testng] at org.jboss.remoting.Client.invoke(Client.java:1634) [testng] at org.jboss.remoting.Client.invoke(Client.java:548) This is the best result I could get (JBoss5.1.0GA jbossall-client.jar call JBoss4.2.3GA server in the embeded JBoss env), here is the ant script: <testng classpathref="build.test.classpath" outputDir="${target.test-reports.dir}" haltOnfailure="true"> <jvmarg line="-Dsun.lang.ClassLoader.allowArraySyntax=true" /> <jvmarg line="-Dorg.jboss.j2ee.Serialization=true" /> <!-- <jvmarg line="-Djboss.remoting.pre_2_0_compatible=true" /> --> <jvmarg line="-Djboss.jndi.url=jnp://localhost:1099" /> <xmlfileset dir="src/test/java" includes="${ant.project.name}-testsuite.xml" /> </testng> Can anybody help?

  • ASP.NET MVC Return to Previous Page

    - by Jason Enochs
I have a basic Edit method in my controller that redirects back to a top level listing (“Index”) when the edit succeeds. Standard setup after scaffolding. I am trying to change this Edit method to redirect back to the previous page (not Index). Since my Edit method is not using the default mapped input parameter “id”, I am using that to pass the previous URL. In my Edit “get” method, I use this line to grab the previous URL and it works fine: ViewBag.ReturnUrl = Request.UrlReferrer.AbsoluteUri; I send this return URL to the Edit “post” method by using my form tag like this: @using (Html.BeginForm(new { id = ViewBag.ReturnUrl })) Now this is where the wheels fall off. I can't seem to get the URL parsed from the id parameter properly. UPDATE**** Using Gary's example as a guide, I changing my parameter name from "id" to "returnUrl" and used a hidden field to pass my parameter. Lesson: Only use the id parameter how it was intended to be used...keep it simple. It works now... Here is my updated code. // // GET: /Question/Edit/5 public ActionResult Edit(int id) { Question question = db.Questions.Find(id); ViewBag.DomainId = new SelectList(db.Domains, "DomainId", "Name", question.DomainId); ViewBag.Answers = db.Questions .AsEnumerable() .Select(d => new SelectListItem { Text = d.Text, Value = d.QuestionId.ToString(), Selected = question.QuestionId == d.QuestionId }); ViewBag.returnUrl = Request.UrlReferrer; ViewBag.ExamId = db.Domains.Find(question.DomainId).ExamId; ViewBag.IndexByQuestion = string.Format("IndexByQuestion/{0}", question.QuestionId); return View(question); } // // POST: /Question/Edit/5 [HttpPost] public ActionResult Edit(Question question, string returnUrl) { int ExamId = db.Domains.Find(question.DomainId).ExamId; if (ModelState.IsValid) { db.Entry(question).State = EntityState.Modified; db.SaveChanges(); //return RedirectToAction("Index"); return Redirect(returnUrl); } ViewBag.DomainId = new SelectList(db.Domains, "DomainId", "Name", question.DomainId); return View(question); } and I changed my form tag to this: @using (Html.BeginForm()) { <input type="hidden" name="returnUrl" value="@ViewBag.returnUrl" /> Thanks Gary

  • Orphan IBM JVM process

    - by Nicholas Key
Hi people, I have this issue about orphan IBM JVM process being created in the process tree: For example: C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\bin>wsadmin -lang jython -f "C:\Hello.py" Hello.py has the simple implementation: import time i = 0 while (1): i = i + 1 print "Hello World " + str(i) time.sleep(3.0) My machine has such JVM information: C:\Program Files\WebSphere\java\bin>java -verbose:sizes -version -Xmca32K RAM class segment increment -Xmco128K ROM class segment increment -Xmns0K initial new space size -Xmnx0K maximum new space size -Xms4M initial memory size -Xmos4M initial old space size -Xmox1624995K maximum old space size -Xmx1624995K memory maximum -Xmr16K remembered set size -Xlp4K large page size available large page sizes: 4K 4M -Xmso256K operating system thread stack size -Xiss2K java thread stack initial size -Xssi16K java thread stack increment -Xss256K java thread stack maximum size java version "1.6.0" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build pwi3260sr6ifix-20091015_01(SR6+152211+155930+156106)) IBM J9 VM (build 2.4, JRE 1.6.0 IBM J9 2.4 Windows Server 2003 x86-32 jvmwi3260sr6-20091001_43491 (JIT enabled, AOT enabled) J9VM - 20091001_043491 JIT - r9_20090902_1330ifx1 GC - 20090817_AA) JCL - 20091006_01 While the program is running, I tried to kill it and subsequently I found an orphan IBM JVM process in the process tree. Is there a way to fix this issue? Why is there an orphan process in the first place? Is there something wrong with my code? I really don't believe that my simplistic code is wrongly implemented. Any suggestions?

  • Is there a version of the removeElement function in Go for the vector package like Java has in its V

    - by Brian T Hannan
I am porting over some Java code into Google's Go language and I converting all code except I am stuck on just one part after an amazingly smooth port. My Go code looks like this and the section I am talking about is commented out: func main() { var puzzleHistory * vector.Vector; puzzleHistory = vector.New(0); var puzzle PegPuzzle; puzzle.InitPegPuzzle(3,2); puzzleHistory.Push(puzzle); var copyPuzzle PegPuzzle; var currentPuzzle PegPuzzle; currentPuzzle = puzzleHistory.At(0).(PegPuzzle); isDone := false; for !isDone { currentPuzzle = puzzleHistory.At(0).(PegPuzzle); currentPuzzle.findAllValidMoves(); for i := 0; i < currentPuzzle.validMoves.Len(); i++ { copyPuzzle.NewPegPuzzle(currentPuzzle.holes, currentPuzzle.movesAlreadyDone); copyPuzzle.doMove(currentPuzzle.validMoves.At(i).(Move)); // There is no function in Go's Vector that will remove an element like Java's Vector //puzzleHistory.removeElement(currentPuzzle); copyPuzzle.findAllValidMoves(); if copyPuzzle.validMoves.Len() != 0 { puzzleHistory.Push(copyPuzzle); } if copyPuzzle.isSolutionPuzzle() { fmt.Printf("Puzzle Solved"); copyPuzzle.show(); isDone = true; } } } } If there is no version available, which I believe there isn't ... does anyone know how I would go about implementing such a thing on my own?

  • What is likely cause of Android runtime exception "No suitable Log implementation" related to loggin

    - by M.Bearden
I am creating an Android app that includes a third party jar. That third party jar utilizes internal logging that is failing to initialize when I run the app, with this error: "org.apache.commons.logging.LogConfigurationException: No suitable Log implementation". The 3rd party jar appears to be using org.apache.commons.logging and to depend on log4j, specifically log4j-1.2.14.jar. I have packaged the log4j jar into the Android app. The third party jar was packaged with a log4j.xml configuration file, which I have tried packaging into the app as an XML resource (and also as a raw resource). The "No suitable Log implementation" error message is not very descriptive, and I have no immediate familiarity with Java logging. So I am looking for likely causes of the problem (what class or configuration resources might I be missing?) or for some debugging technique that will result in a different error message that is more explicit about the problem. I do not have access to source code for the 3rd party jar. Here is the exception stack trace. When I run the app, I get the following exception as soon as one of the third party jar classes attempts to initialize its internal logging. DEBUG/AndroidRuntime(15694): Shutting down VM WARN/dalvikvm(15694): threadid=3: thread exiting with uncaught exception (group=0x4001b180) ERROR/AndroidRuntime(15694): Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception ERROR/AndroidRuntime(15694): java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError ERROR/AndroidRuntime(15694): Caused by: org.apache.commons.logging.LogConfigurationException: No suitable Log implementation ERROR/AndroidRuntime(15694): at org.apache.commons.logging.impl.LogFactoryImpl.discoverLogImplementation(LogFactoryImpl.java:842) ERROR/AndroidRuntime(15694): at org.apache.commons.logging.impl.LogFactoryImpl.newInstance(LogFactoryImpl.java:601) ERROR/AndroidRuntime(15694): at org.apache.commons.logging.impl.LogFactoryImpl.getInstance(LogFactoryImpl.java:333) ERROR/AndroidRuntime(15694): at org.apache.commons.logging.impl.LogFactoryImpl.getInstance(LogFactoryImpl.java:307) ERROR/AndroidRuntime(15694): at org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory.getLog(LogFactory.java:645) ERROR/AndroidRuntime(15694): at org.apache.commons.configuration.ConfigurationFactory.<clinit>(ConfigurationFactory.java:77)

  • Which AMI to to use for Java/Tomcat/MySQL in Amazon EC2?

    - by Justin
I originally posted this on stackoverflow.com and it was suggested serverfault.com might be a better place to ask this question. So here goes: I'm trying to determine which Amazon Machine Image (AMI) to use as my Virtual Server in Amazon's EC2. For now, I'll need to choose an AMI that complies with the AWS Free Usage Tier. I want to deploy a Java app that I've been developing using Eclipse on Windows XP, Tomcat 7 and MySQL 5.5. I'm aware that I can choose the Basic 32-bit Amazon Linux AMI. Then I'd manually install Tomcat and MySQL (does MySQL get installed on the image or separately on an Elastic Block Store (EBS)?). Here's the rub, I'm a bit of a Linux noob. I can start Tomcat and tail the logs and such on Linux but I'm not familiar with the install process for Tomcat and MySQL on Linux and commands like sudo and chmod. I'm happy to get more hands on with Linux but I'm short on time right now. Are there AMI's that already have Tomcat and MySQL bundled? The Request Instance Wizard shows 805 Community AMI's that are Free Tier Eligible. 51 of the Free Tier Eligible AMI's have "Tomcat" in their name. I'm willing to consider using Elastic Beanstalk but my research thus far hasn't found any discussion of using MySQL with Beanstalk. The discussions all seem to use Amazon's SimpleDB. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  • .Net Entity Framework SaveChanges is adding without add method

    - by tmfkmoney
I'm new to the entity framework and I'm really confused about how savechanges works. There's probably a lot of code in my example which could be improved, but here's the problem I'm having. The user enters a bunch of picks. I make sure the user hasn't already entered those picks. Then I add the picks to the database. var db = new myModel() var predictionArray = ticker.Substring(1).Split(','); // Get rid of the initial comma. var user = Membership.GetUser(); var userId = Convert.ToInt32(user.ProviderUserKey); // Get the member with all his predictions for today. var memberQuery = (from member in db.Members where member.user_id == userId select new { member, predictions = from p in member.Predictions where p.start_date == null select p }).First(); // Load all the company ids. foreach (var prediction in memberQuery.predictions) { prediction.CompanyReference.Load(); } var picks = from prediction in predictionArray let data = prediction.Split(':') let companyTicker = data[0] where !(from i in memberQuery.predictions select i.Company.ticker).Contains(companyTicker) select new Prediction { Member = memberQuery.member, Company = db.Companies.Where(c => c.ticker == companyTicker).First(), is_up = data[1] == "up", // This turns up and down into true and false. }; // Save the records to the database. // HERE'S THE PART I DON'T UNDERSTAND. // This saves the records, even though I don't have db.AddToPredictions(pick) foreach (var pick in picks) { db.SaveChanges(); } // This does not save records when the db.SaveChanges outside of a loop of picks. db.SaveChanges(); foreach (var pick in picks) { } // This saves records, but it will insert all the picks exactly once no matter how many picks you have. //The fact you're skipping a pick makes no difference in what gets inserted. var counter = 1; foreach (var pick in picks) { if (counter == 2) { db.SaveChanges(); } counter++; } There's obviously something going on with the context I don't understand. I'm guessing I've somehow loaded my new picks as pending changes, but even if that's true I don't understand I have to loop over them to save changes. Can someone explain this to me?
