  • Grub - multiple distros

    - by kveidem
I had Ubuntu 12.04 BETA installed on my entire HD. Then I decided to also install Linux Mint Debian Edition 121204 (LMDE). With gparted I shrunk my /home to make room for one more distro I created the partitions needed for LMDE, but figured I could use the same swap I installed LMDE - no errors. During install I selected to install GRUB to /dev/sda Grub shows Linux Mint Debian Edition, but no sign of Ubuntu The new LMDE install will not boot I can use LMDE from USB stick, which is what I use right now My Ubuntu /home has data that is not backed up (must recover) If I can boot back into Ubuntu to back up I am OK again. Please help. From gparted (sda8 and sda9 is the new ones after shrinking sda7) /dev/sda1 ext4 20 GB Flags: boot /dev/sda2 extended 912 GB dev/sda5 ext4 20 GB dev/sda6 linux-swap 4 GB dev/sda7 ext4 585 GB dev/sda8 ext4 20 GB dev/sda9 ext4 285 GB

  • How can I allow search engines to index my invite only website in ruby on rails?

    - by tstyle
I have a ruby on rails website that will be in invite-only mode for the next couple of months. Currently I have it set up so visits to any page performs an authentication: before_filter :authenticate, :except => [:beta] //authenticate checks for a logged in user But the webpage has a lot of content that I would like to see indexed by search engines, and I was wondering if there's an easy way to allow crawlers to do their work? I am not very knowledgable on SEO related stuff at all, so sorry if this is an suboptimal way to phrase the question.

  • Web Form Testing [closed]

    - by Frank G.
I created a application for a client that is along the lines of a ticket tracking system. I wanted to know if anyone know of software that could beta test the web forms. Well I am looking for something that could automatically populate/fill whatever forms are on the web page with generic data. The purpose of this is to just randomly populate data and see if I get any errors on the page when submitted plus to also see how validation for the form functions. Does anyone know of anything that could do this?

  • Lost in Code?

    - by Geertjan
Sometimes you're coding and you find yourself forgetting your context. For example, look at this situation: The cursor is on line 52. Imagine you're coding there and you're puzzling on some problem for some time. Wouldn't it be handy to know, without scrolling up (and then back down again to where you were working), what the method signature looks like? And does the method begin two lines above the visible code or 10 lines? That information can now, in NetBeans iDE 7.3 (and already in the 7.3 Beta) very easily be ascertained, by putting the cursor on the closing brace of the code block: As you can see, a new vertical line is shown parallel to the line numbers, connecting the end of the method with its start, as well as, at the top of the editor, the complete method signature, together with the number of the line on which it's found. Very handy. Same support is found for other file types, such as in JavaScript files.

  • Windows Azure Active Directory: Should You Use It?

Computerworld offers a full review of the developer preview version of WAAD. Jonathan Hassell, the review's author, effectively gave the service a grade of incomplete. While you can't expect something that's effectively a beta to include everything that will be in the final version, WAAD presented a number of annoying problems that definitely need fixing before it can attract a wide share of the market. First, you can't even try out the service unless you sign up for a trial of Office 365, Microsoft's cloud Office suite. The software giant does plan to let you bring up an instance of WAAD as...

  • Today is last chance for EF Profiler 30% discount

Ayende has reminded us that Entity Framework Profiler’s Beta period ends tomorrow when it goes RTM. But that means the 30% discount also ends. It will go from $220US to $315US tomorrow. I spend a lot of time looking at what’s going on in my database when using EF and the views that EFProf provide are indispensible. It’s organized by context instance and provides links back to the .NET code that executed each command. I sure wish I had stock in this tool! ...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Visual Studio 2010 blurry font

    - by John Doe
I'm using Visual C# 2010 Express (final, not beta or anything) and I'm having an issue with blurry fonts while debugging. The font appears normal everywhere (intellisense, menus, code) but when a breakpoint is reached most of the debugger related text is blurry (Locals, Call Stack, "data tooltips"). Here are screenshots of the normal text and the blurry text while debugging: http://img682.imageshack.us/i/normalh.png/ http://img145.imageshack.us/i/blurry.png/ Is this a known bug or something related to my system? Is there a way to fix it?

  • Custom Preloader in Flex 4?

    - by davr
Has anyone successfully implemented a custom preloader in Flex 4? In my experience, when I specify a custom preloader using the preloader="com.foo.MyPreloader" in the Application tag, the preloader does not display until the SWF is completely downloaded, defeating the purpose of the preloader! Perhaps this is a bug in the still-beta Flex 4 framework?
