I see a lot of connection attempts to 1283/tcp on my firewall from a client computer to a Windows Server 2008 Domain Controller. What exactly is this traffic? Something to do with NetBIOS, perhaps?
Can anyone help me please?I had to formate my friends computer & she didn't have the motherboard cd so I have to download the Network Driver from internet!
I need Realtek RTL8201 CL/PL NETWORK DRIVER but I can't find the right link to download it!Can you please help me?Thank you;)
I have edited the /etc/network/interfaces file and I use the sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart.
After restart, the eth1 interfaces don't setup properly. I need a hard reboot to enable this configuration. Meanwhile the command line hints: Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not enable again some interfaces.
Am I using the run command to restart network interfaces?
auto eth1
iface eth1 inet static
address 192.168.1.87
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1

Hello,
I am running Windows 7 on my PC, and I am running a Windows 2008 Server VM in Windows Virtual PC. Both machines have network connectivity. However, I cannot ping the VM from the host neither by computer name nor IP. I can ping the host machine from the VM both by computer name and IP.
Is there something I need to enable on the VM to allow it to be seen by other machines on my network?
Thanks!
Suppose that I am in a private network of computers (say each having ip addresses 192.168.. ). Some of the machines( we have no information regarding their ip, name and no physical access to the servers) in the network are connected to internet and they run an http proxy at some port say 3128.
Is there a program which can be run on Windows or Linux which will give me the list of machines(ip addresses and ports if possible) acting as proxy servers?
Is there a way to use rdesktop or another Linux client to connect to a server that requires Network Level Authentication?
From Windows Server 2008 R2 -- Control Panel -- System And Security -- System -- Allow Remote Access there is an option that says "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication". So with this enabled I can con not connect from Linux. I can connect from XP but you need SP3 and I had to edit a couple of things in the registry for it to work.
Hi,
MS Word 2007 files have a property page for entering details like summary and title. This is displayed when you hover over the documents on Desktop. Now on my Windows XP SP2 computer, inside Windows Explorer, it shows the special properties for all such files from Desktop, but not from the Network Drives. This is a big problem when I have a large collection of Word documents all in one folder.
How can I display these special properties (infotips) for documents in my network drives ?
Thanks :)
Hi all,
We had worm infestation problem in our network. I have cleaned all the worms and have taken appropiate steps.
I wanted to how do you determine how the worm got spread in the network.
Thanks,
Gary
I choose this option in network profile, turn it off, press save settings, and all seems ok. But when I open this network profile again, it shows that this option is on.
WTH?
I'm wondering what the best way is to host media for a social network site. Let's say that I expect my social network to reach 500.000 users in 2 years time. I'm not sure how I can best setup my hosting plan in order to have a solid bases to store media files.
Which hosting plan would you recommend me to start with and how can I enhance the plan?
I got a single ethernet connection to a network but need multiple ips.
Because of this, I am using virtual network interfaces like this:
auto intern
iface intern inet static
address ...
netmask ...
gateway ...U
auto intern:1
iface intern:1 inet static
address ...
netmask ...
gateway ...
I need to specify which IP should be used by default for outgoing traffic.
How can I do that?
Is there a way to simulate a malfunctioning device or a faulty cable in a FC SAN network?
edit: I know shutting down a port on a switch is an option, I'd like to simulate high error rates though.
In an ethernet network it would be a simple case of adding a transparent bridge that discards a given percent of the packets, but I have absolutely no idea how to tackle that in an Fibre Channel environment...
Hi all,
I have a Fedora 10. NetworkManager is stopped. Network is configured with a static ip address.
On my screen i have this :
How do i disabled that network information output ? I don't see it on SSH, only the main console.
Thanks !
Something is setting (the incorrect) time on our network- though I don't know what it is (since we have approx 40 servers). We run on a windows network, with AD etc. Not sure where to even begin to start looking- as far as I know, we don't run an NTP server in house.
Any advice?
Thanks
I have connected my Internet to a buffalo air station router and a swtich. Computers and Laptops on this network connect to the Internet wired and wirelessly.
I would like to share files locally on this network but I can't access the laptop's which connect wirelessly.
I have shared folders on each computer but I would like to know if local file sharing is possible as all the computers utimately connect to the same router.
All computers are running Windows 7.
I have this MacBook Pro that has intermittent problems connecting to my Wifi network. Sometimes it helps to disable/re-enable airport and sometimes I have to restart the computer to get my network running again. Has anyone experienced this? And is there a command I can run that would do the same as I do when I restart the computer (short of actually restarting it, obviously) or at least a command that restarts the airport service?
Thanks in advance.
Now we want to set up a private git repository in the ubuntu 12.10,then other developments can access it through the local network.
Now I just can create a repository use git init, for example:
cd myproject
git init
Which will create .git directory, but I do not know how to access it thougth network like:
git://192.168.1.1/myproject/.git
Any idea?
BTW,I have tried:
git init --bare
which will give me a error:
git add error : "fatal : malloc, out of memory"
I am trying to map a couple network shares for anyone who logs in to the domain under their AD credentials. I had this setup before, and now I can't get it to work at all... so frustrating.
I'm trying putting the logon script under the user's profile, putting the logon script under the Group Policy Object logon script section.
Please help, none of the network shares are being mounted.
I have a LaCie 2big Network that currently has 2 500GB drives in it (mirror).
I'd like to upgrade the drives to 1TB each using something like this
I know that Lacie sells a 1TB drive designed for the 2big Network but it would seem to me that these drives are standard drives with the Lacie holder included.
Do I need to use their drives or can I get my own? (Their customer support pushes me towards their drives) I'm assuming the device can format the drives for me when I add them in.
i have a machine connected to internet,

A users Windows 7 laptop is throwing Event 4321, NetBT errors every two minutes. It is trying to register every DNS name on the network to it's own interface. While there is alot of discussion on single instances of this I have never seen it do it for every computer name in the network.
Any thoughts?
When i click on network in window vista i can't see LInux computer in there
but when i go to my shared folder using
\\linux-server\\samba_shared_folder
then it works
How can make the linux computer visible to all in network
I have a XAMPP test server running on my Windows Vista laptop. I also have a small wireless router. I would like be able to create a small temp network that could broadcast that network so any other computers connected to the wifi can go to localhost/ or an internal ip address and view my server. The router will not be able to be connected to the internet, but I don't see how that would make a difference
Thanks

My company uses Juniper networks for vpn access. I am unable to get the juniper network connect client to work on windows 7 64-bit. It used to work before but after I formatted my system it gives the following error every time I start the vpn client
If I check the logs I see this error
The Juniper Network Connect Service
service is marked as an interactive
service. However, the system is
configured to not allow interactive
services. This service may not
function properly.
