I recently updated to Windows 7 64-bit from XP on my Dell Latitude D830. Now I am not able to watch dvd's because it says the video card does not support DirectX 9.0. Is there an easy way to fix this or do I have to find a new video card?
I have a ubuntu machine that is connected to my house's sound system. Is there a way I can control what it is playing remotely? I have SSH access if necessary.
I typically use Rhythmbox to play music.
I am using ubuntu 11.04 virtual image with VMWare Player 4.0.2 build-591240. Because I found that the folder that holds the VMWare image goes to 8GB and want to shrink the size by using the utilities tool provided by the VMWare Image Player.
However, I found that the button is disabled like this.
Question How to enable the button so that I can use it to shrink the size of virtual image used by ubuntu?
Question If I cannot enable the button, is there another way that I can shrink the size of used space?
Thank you
Using VMware players on Windows 7 with a Ubuntu 10.04 guest. When I ping it resolves the ip address but the ping fails. Hopefully this is a local issue as I don't have access to any of the network equipment (routers, etc).
vmware tools is installed.
Is there any other information I can provide to help resolve this?

Well, MIX10 is over. It was a great time to meet a lot of people and see friends from afar. As anyone knows, the networking is a HUGE part of being in-person at any conferencethat vibe, value and friendship cannot be matched online. But the sessions there were a TON of them. It is quite impossible to be in 3 places at one time. Thankfully the MIX team recorded all regular sessions and make them available for viewing online or offline. I have 2 virtual hosts running on my Windows XP laptop. One is Ubuntu running inside vmware player. The other is MS virtual PC (so I can test with IE6 ). The Ubuntu virtual host is running my web application with apache. I can point my browser on my laptop at the Ubuntu IP and view my web app. I read this post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/197792/how-to-connect-to-host-machine-from-within-virtual-pc-image and was able to get my Virtual PC to ping my physical machine using the loopback adapter. But I'm stuck on getting my Virtual PC to see my web application running in the Ubuntu vmware player host. I appreciate any suggestions.

In a pinch I had to install Ubuntu 12.04 on an HP Pavilion g6. I was not fond of the 1024 x 7678 resolution so after investigating and finding I had the intel chipset I set the below in the grub file:
GRUB_GFXMODE=1366x768x32
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1366x768x32
This did not work. The system just keeps rebooting as nauseum. I powered down, inserted my Ubuntu Install USB, powered up, edited the Grub file on the disk (made sure it was the disk and not the Grub for the USB stick). Powered off and tried booting up again. Same thing.
So:
As a noob am I missing something in the boot to allow me into a recovery mode? (I cannot seem to get to the Grub menu)
If not is there a way I can recover from this?
UPDATE: Holding down the shift key after BIOS gets "GRUB Loading..." and then a reboot
How would I go about creating a demo video of an ipad application (in the ipad simulator)?
The video should preferably use a circle as the cursor and also
support moving between portrait/landscape modes.

This may sound like a strange question, but I was wondering if there is software available which can emulate the behaviour of standalone dvd-players. I'm currently debugging a DVD we're creating, and I can't afford to go hopping to my house every time to check.
The reason I'm asking is because the problems just appear on 'some' dvd-players which I cannot predict.
Other option maybe, is there software that can check a VIDEO_TS folder or iso file for errors?
