I've got two computers both running Ubuntu and i want to connect them into a LAN so i can ssh from the one into the another - i know how to do the ssh configuration part, i just don't know how to connect them - i put the cable but nothing happened.
Please tell me what needs to be done.

Unfortunately, I am not able to make a screenshot of my launchers sub menus (after right click of icon on the launcher a menu appears).
Actually, I have enable this plugin because I was not able to make a screenshot of this sub menus using the ordinary print screen button.
Is there a way to fix this?
Hi,
Im looking to map the Windows key to activate Application menu on Ubuntu. Ive had a look around System Preferences Keyboard Shortcuts but cannot seem to find anything there!
I've installed Ubuntu Server under Virtualbox just to get a nice little shell. I've also installed the VirtualBox "Guest Additions" and set "Shared Clipboard: Bidirectional".
I still can't seem to get any copy-paste working.
Am I missing something here?
I've installed gpm which gives mouse support in server mode (no X), and allows copy-paste using the mouse, but still the VirtualBox integration doesn't work.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 on a Lenovo T61 (in case that matters). Network Manager connects just fine to my hidden SSID, every time. Sometimes, though, it can take upwards of a minute or more to do it. When you're sitting there, staring at the screen, that can seem interminable. Any hints on how I can fix this or manually force a connection?
Thanks!

I'm trying to create a local user on a new Ubuntu box. I'm unable to change the password, and I keep getting the error below. The user gets added to the shadow file, but I can't get it to set a password. How can this be fixed?
admin@theserver:~$ sudo useradd jamz
[sudo] password for admin:
admin@theserver:~$ sudo passwd jamz
passwd: Authentication token manipulation error
passwd: password unchanged
admin@theserver:~$
I have a system with Ubuntu 9.10 installed.
I can connect to remote windows shares by using the "connect to server" under "places" menu.
I can't figure out where these mount in the file system. Is it possible to mount it in the file system.
And I can't install smbfs or anything else. I need to use only what comes on the live CD, as there is no internet connection and no way to get in packages.
Is it possible to use the windows xp that I installed in a virtual box in Windows.
To be used in Ubuntu 9.10 Virtual box? So that I won't install the whole thing again.
How to install an anonymous proxy in Ubuntu 9.10 server which listens on every public network ethernet interfaces?
I have other service like Nginx, MySQL running on that server so I hope the proxy server wont conflict with them.
I have a Brazilian Keyboard that I need to use in my machine for some testing, but none of Brazilian Layouts that came with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx release are 100% compatible (I'm missing question marks and "/").
How do I download additional keyboard layouts?
The wireless on my Ubuntu works on all the other wireless networks. But on this university network it never forms a connection. But I can see the signal at 80% (indeed I see several signals at 80%, 40% and 20% by the same name university-network name). On a Windows XP laptop, the connection is formed as usual, and there is only one network visible to Windows.
Hi,
I installed libjpeg62 and imagemagick on my ubuntu 10.04 (lucid).
Running identify command with a gif works but running it with a jpeg produces this error:
identify: no decode delegate for this image format `stream,13307,0.jpg' @ error/constitute.c/ReadImage/532.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!
I'm having trouble setting a keyboard shortcut in Ubuntu. Trying to use the win (super) key as a modifier, but as soon as I press the win key the keyboard shortcut UI just assumes I wanted to use just that key.
I figure the easiest thing would be to modify the settings file itself, where I should be able to put in whatever I want. But I can't figure out where that's stored. Does anyone know?
I do not understand how to pair my new pantech impact with my ubuntu laptop so that I can send pictures and files back and forth.
Can anyone provide instructions?
I would like to enable the "extra" visual effects on Ubuntu. When I choose the option for "extra," it searches for drivers and then says, "Desktop effects could not be enabled." Why doesn't this work on my computer?
On windows I have a few AutoHotkey scripts that let me hit various key combinations to resize windows to particular pre-defined sizes, or move them to certain areas of the screen (or both). I'm wondering how I would accomplish this in Ubuntu (gnome).
Most of the searches I did for a linux version of autohotkey seemed to be centered around just setting up simple keyboard shortcuts (key combo X launches app Y, etc). I didn't see anything about scripting window size and placement beyond maximize/minimize.

Hi Guys,
Can someone point me to some instructions for configuring multiple monitors in Ubuntu 10.04 using the generic drivers (nv)? I can't seem to find this online.

I've just made the switch to Ubuntu on my main PC and I've been looking for a media player that can:
Play all the usual video formats
Rate (and ideally, tag) each file
Display thumbnails for each file
Other than that there isn't much I'm after.
Banshee comes close, but doesn't display thumbnails.
I've Google'd lots but I'm running out of search terms to try.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers!

I can't figure out where these mount in the file system. And how can I get this to mount automatically on startup?
And I can't install smbfs or anything else. I need to use only what comes on the live CD, as there is no internet connection and no way to get in packages.
I'm using wine in order to install and run yahoo messenger on ubuntu(9.10) But it does not detect the webcam. Not unlike in skype that it can detect(skype not run through wine).
What do I do in order for it to detect the cam?
In ubuntu(using version 12.04), when you drag a window to the left or right side of your screen the window gets auto-maximized in height and is half of the screen on the left or right side respectively.
What would be super useful imo is a hotkey that autodetects what side of the screen your window is on the most and then expands it to a state identical to the one described in the above paragraph.
Has anyone programatically done this before? If not, how would you go about achieving this?
In Ubuntu 9.10, how do I change it so as not to show a list of users at the login screen? I would prefer it to be like 9.04 where you typed in the username, then the password.
