  • DNS Provider/Domain Registrar

    - by Arcath
I have a whole bunch of domains with my current web host and when i got the package i got it with a few gig of web space and a bunch of mysql databases but times have changed and now and i don't use the hosting im paying for, and i just my host as a DNS server to forward everything else where. The process of removing the host is going to require me to transfer all the domains to another package etc... which is going to cause disruption so my question is: Who is the best provider for DNS only? I don't want any space or mail just someone to hold the domains and let me set any DNS options I want (A/MX/CNAME records for everything, even possibly the ability to point my domains at my own DNS server).

  • public key infrastructure - distribute bad root certificates

    - by iamrohitbanga
Suppose a hacker launches a new Linux distro with firefox provided with it. Now a browser contains the certificates of the root certification authorities of PKI. Because firefox is a free browser anyone can package it with fake root certificates. Can this be used to authenticate some websites. How? Many existing linux distros are mirrored by people. They can easily package software containing certificates that can lead to such attacks. Is the above possible? Has such an attack taken place before?

  • How can I install a headless JDK on an Ubuntu Jaunty server?

    - by Hanno Fietz
I recently set up a build server that requires a JDK to run (for example, to compile the Java sources). The OpenJDK package in Ubuntu pulls in the OpenJDK JRE as a dependency which, in turn, depends on a large number of packages that are only relevant for graphical environments. For the standard JRE, there's a headless version of the package, but for the JDK, no. This issue has been discussed in various places before, and one solution that I found and used was this: $ apt-get --no-install-recommends -d install openjdk-6-jdk $ dpkg -i --ignore-depends=openjdk-6-jre /path/to/just-downloaded.deb While this worked, it now leaves my system with a broken dependency tree and apt-get refuses further installs untill I run apt-get -f. Is there a better solution to this?

  • I cannot install flash player, I am getting 1603 exit code

    - by Naz
I am trying to install flash player silently, using a powershell script. I do not think it is being installed. I looked under "control panel-uninstall programs" I don't see flash player listed there. Also, I am printing the exit code for the process and it prints 1603 exit code, which is "fatal error during installation" As an experiment, I double click on the flash player .msi file, and it gave me 1722 error " Error 1722.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. "

  • What is the proper step-by-step procedure to install any application in Ubuntu?

    - by Mr-Right
I have just installed Ubuntu for the first time on PC, I have done some googling to get an idea about installing any application in Ubuntu but yet not clear about the proper procedure !! Most of the time when I try to install any application. Example: Opera, I downloaded the Opera installable package from http://www.opera.com/. Ran the downloaded file but the installer hangs up. <<OR If I try to install any installation package from Ubuntu Software Center/Software Source. Initially, it starts downloading but takes too long to process and fails almost in middle of 100%. Question: Is there any reliable, proper and easy step-by-step procedure?

  • JSP / Tomcat / Apache setup overview on Fedora Core

    - by Richard T
Hi Folks, For someone with so much Java experience, boy do I feel clueless - thanks in advance for your help in my grocking the present (Feb, 2010) JSP environment. Here's what I am hoping to learn: Do I understand correctly that most people use Apache to "front-end" their Tomcat servers, such that Apache "talks" directly to web clients and "proxies" Tomcat servers? Do I understand correctly that Apache isn't capable of serving JSP directly but requires a server (like Tomcat)? Is there an RPM package for Fedora Core so I don't have to build one myself? Or, does Fedora Core's package installer do a good job on this one from source code? (Some do, some don't!) While I'm here asking questions; Does Tomcat come with a working example that one can start hacking on as a way to get started quickly? If not, got a good suggestion? Thanks folks, RT

  • Trying to install Rmagick on Debian

    - by Janak
One of things you need to do to get Rmagick installed apt-get install libmagick9-dev When I try that I get the following errors Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that the package is simply not installable and a bug report against that package should be filed. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: libmagick9-dev: Depends: libjpeg62-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libbz2-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libtiff4-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libwmf-dev (>= 0.2.7-1) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libz-dev Depends: libpng12-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libfreetype6-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libexif-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libdjvulibre-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: librsvg2-dev but it is not going to be installed Depends: libgraphviz-dev but it is not going to be installed E: Broken packages I don't know what to do to fix this? • catch-22 with apt-get

    - by Mark J Seger
I'd recently installed a package and discovered my scp stopped working. After removing and installing some things I got it fixed but then I stated getting errors in apt-get about dpkg: error: configuration error: /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/multiarch:1: unknown option 'foreign-architecture' so I commented it out and thought that fixed the problem until I discovered the chrome icon in my launcher turned into a ? and chrome no longer worked. I tried to reinstall it and got the apt-get error: "ambiguous package name 'libglib2.0-0' with more than one installed instance" if I try to remove libglib2 I get the error The following packages have unmet dependencies: iceape-browser : Depends: iceape but it is not going to be installed iceape-chatzilla : Depends: iceape (>= 2.7.11) but it is not going to be installed Depends: iceape (<= 2.7.11-1.1~) but it is not going to be installed E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages. so then I tried to remove icape-browser and it complained about the 2 instances of libglinb2. in fact virtually any command I issue does the same thing so I don't know what I can do to untangle things.

  • ubuntu: mumble 1.2.2 in Karmic

    - by Dan
Karmic only has mumble 1.1.8, but if I want to connect to a 1.2 server I need to upgrade... So I would like to know how I can upgrade to mumble 1.2.2 without messing myself up for later when I upgrade to 10.04 and beyond... I just want a smooth transition into the next versions of mumble. Is there anyway to upgrade to this newer version and either keep it in the package manager or make it not interfere with the natural upgrades the program will later recieve from the package manager? Thanks, Dan

  • On WHM/cPanel how can you tell which packages are in use?

    - by Paul Masri
I want to find out a) which packages are currently in use, and b) which accounts are using them, so I can do some housekeeping. If I go to 'Show Reseller Accounts', it'll list all the accounts by reseller and I can see which accounts use which, so I could go the longhand route of counting through them one by one, but I wondered if there's a way of getting a simple listing. NB: I've seen that if I go to 'Edit Reseller privileges & nameservers' for one of my resellers, I'll see a 'Package limits' table which has a 'Current' column that shows exactly what I'm looking for... but it's for that reseller only, and I don't get this table for resellers that have no package limits (e.g. me).

  • Windows Server 2008 Antivirus Software with an API

    - by Dave Jellison
I'm looking for an Antivirus package that is compliant with Windows Server 2008. That's not the hard part. What I need is an API layer on the Antivirus that i can call from managed .net code. For example: I am developing an Asp.Net (C#) website that allows users to upload files to the web server which the web site resides on. We have full control of the server so there are no security/rights issues on the server. I need to be able to run the antivirus algorithm on the newly uploaded files without (hopefully) shelling out to a command-ilne version of the software. Does anyone know of such a package?

  • Transferring websites from x64 to x86 server

    - by Ke
Hi, I run a x64 staging server here along with the following: Solr Java etc. However, I am about to get a linode vps for production and quickly realising that x86 is the way to go for their lowest RAM package (thinking to upgrade later). My staging server is x64 with 12gb ram, so going down to 300mb ram is going to feel devilishly slow ;/ Here are my questions: 1) Will I have problems transferring my scripts, dbs etc from a x64 to x86 server? e.g. solr indexes 2) Is it worth going for the x86 package? I am probably going to upgrade later down the line and x64 might be better for the servers with more RAM? should I stick with x64 instead as there isnt much difference when using with low RAM? Cheers Ke

  • How can I install a custom (patched) PECL extension?

    - by JKS
I'm trying to use the htscanner PECL extension on my CentOS 5/PHP 5.2.6 machine, but there's a bug in the latest version where a newline character is added to the end of every php_value directive. This behavior causes my include_path and error_log values not to work. The bug and the patch are documented on the PECL site: http://pecl.php.net/bugs/bug.php?id=16891 I've downloaded the latest version, applied the patch, and re-compressed the package — but I can't get the PECL installer to accept it — or any local package, for that matter. I've tried every variation of the pecl install syntax that I can think of, and the only times I'm able to get it to work, it downloads an online copy first and ignores the local copy. Can anyone recommend a method for installing a PECL extension from a local file? Thanks for your consideration.

  • Change install path to /usr/bin instead of /usr/local/bin

    - by user1678788
A simple question, but I have no concrete documentation to confirm my answer. When installing software with the make install command under a unix machine, the default path is going over to /usr/local/bin. I would like to update a package system-wide under /usr/bin. How (and where) do I change the command under make or make install to /usr/bin? Also - Can the package remain on /usr/local/bin but the systemwide usage of Python (the update being installed) be changed to /usr/local/bin from /usr/bin to avoid modifying the original installed version ?

I am upgrading to Fedora 12 on a Amazon EC2 using help here: http://www.ioncannon.net/system-administration/894/fedora-12-bootable-root-ebs-on-ec2/ I managed to do a 64 bit instance OK, however facing some problems with a standard one. On the final bit of the install from 11 to 12 I am getting an error: Error: Missing Dependency: libcrypto.so.8 is needed by package httpd-tools-2.2.1.5-1.fc11.1.i586 (installed) Error: Missing Dependency: libssl.so.8 is needed by package httpd-tools-2.2.1.5-1.fc11.1.i586 (installed) This is referenced in the comments from the link above but all it says is: Q: Apache failed, or libssl.so.* & libcrypto.so.* are missing A: These versions are mssing the symlinks they require. Easy fix, go symlink them to the newest versions in /lib However I am afraid I don't know how to do this. If it is any help I tried running the command locate libssl.so and got: /lib/libssl.so.0.9.8b /lib/libssl.so.6

    - by donamir
Hi. It's my state: I installed some apps on a linux server(ubuntu). Apps stack are development tools: -some of Atlassian product -SVN, USVN -Maven, Artifactory -Tomcat & ... My problem: I want to create a bootable dvd to be able to restore same state(OS, configuration and apps) on another hardware(server). Some notes: I prefer ubuntu but my linux can be a different distributions if needed. w I prefer final result (bootable dvd) be simple and easy to use as installing a linux(ubuntu). I prefer a bootable DVD but if it's not possible, any other solution like partial backup/package even if needed to install first OS and then apply the package/backup/... can be good. Finally: Thanks in advance.

I have already searched all package names with "php", and I have this list: # yum list installed | grep php php-common.i386 5.3.13-5.el5.art installed php-pear.noarch 1:1.4.9-8.el5 installed php5-ioncube-loader.i386 4.0.7-11062118 installed php53.i386 5.3.3-13.el5_8 installed php53-cli.i386 5.3.3-13.el5_8 installed php53-devel.i386 5.3.3-13.el5_8 installed php53-gd.i386 5.3.3-13.el5_8 installed php53-imap.i386 5.3.3-13.el5_8 installed php53-mbstring.i386 5.3.3-13.el5_8 installed php53-mcrypt.i386 5.3.3-1.el5 installed php53-mysql.i386 5.3.3-13.el5_8 installed php53-pdo.i386 5.3.3-13.el5_8 installed php53-sqlite2.i386 5.3.2-11041315 installed php53-xml.i386 5.3.3-13.el5_8 installed psa-appvault-phpads.noarch 2.0.8-8203520080409011611 installed psa-appvault-phpbb.noarch 3.0.0-8200820080409011626 installed psa-appvault-phpbook.noarch 1.50-8203220080409011638 installed psa-appvault-phpbugtracker.noarch 1.19-8203820080416050605 installed psa-appvault-phpdig.noarch 1.85-8203120080409011645 installed psa-appvault-phpmoney.noarch 1.3-8204320080409011649 installed psa-appvault-phpmyfamily.noarch 1.4.1-8203420080409011655 installed psa-appvault-phpmyvisites.noarch 2.3-8202820080409011701 installed psa-appvault-phprojekt.noarch 5.2-8200820080409011713 installed psa-appvault-phpsurveyor.noarch 0.98-8204320080409011723 installed psa-appvault-phpwebsite.noarch 0.10.2-8203420080409011738 installed psa-appvault-phpwiki.noarch 1.3.11-8204320080409011808 installed psa-php53-configurator.i386 1.6.1-cos5.build1013111101.14 installed After verification in the Plesk file: panel_preupgrade_checker.php I think the warning is due to these lines: (from : panel_preupgrade_checker.php) foreach ($packages as $package) { $name = $package['name']; $hasPhp5 |= ($name == 'php' || strpos($name, 'php-') === 0); $hasPhp53 |= (strpos($name, 'php53') === 0); } Now, I think the problem is just due to the names of theses packages: php-common.i386 5.3.13-5.el5.art installed php-pear.noarch 1:1.4.9-8.el5 installed Can you help me to resolve this situation?
