  • MSDCS zone missing

    - by hyp
I seem to have an issue with our AD/DNS, the structure looks like: but the BPA gives me an error: Issue: The Active Directory integrated DNS zone _msdcs.<domain> was not found. Impact: DNS queries for the Active Directory integrated zone _msdcs.<domain> might fail. Resolution: Restore the Active Directory integrated DNS zone _msdcs.<domain> Now we've got 4 DC's in total: 2 running Server 2008 R2, 2 running Server 2003. The older ones will be retired sometime this year. Actually everything seems to be working ok (if something isn't then we don't know about it), we've got quite a few .NET applications authenticating against AD, no DNS issues from what I can tell and various bits on the network point to all 4 controllers. Furthermore a dcdiag /dnsall comes up with all passes. Is this something I should be worried about?

  • Running cronjob in the odd-numbered days

    - by Spacedust
    I'm currently running my MySQL backup script on every day of the week: 0 1 * * 1 sh /root/mysql_monday.sh 0 1 * * 2 sh /root/mysql_tuesday.sh 0 1 * * 3 sh /root/mysql_wednesday.sh 0 1 * * 4 sh /root/mysql_thursday.sh 0 1 * * 5 sh /root/mysql_friday.sh 0 1 * * 6 sh /root/mysql_saturday.sh 0 1 * * 0 sh /root/mysql_sunday.sh Now I would like to keep backups for one week more so two weeks in total just to be more secure. For example: I though I can create one backup file on monday in the even days and then again in the odd-numbered days. For even days I can just use: 0 1 */2 * 1 sh /root/mysql_monday_even.sh 0 1 */2 * 2 sh /root/mysql_tuesday_even.sh 0 1 */2 * 3 sh /root/mysql_wednesday_even.sh 0 1 */2 * 4 sh /root/mysql_thursday_even.sh 0 1 */2 * 5 sh /root/mysql_friday_even.sh 0 1 */2 * 6 sh /root/mysql_saturday_even.sh 0 1 */2 * 0 sh /root/mysql_sunday_even.sh But what about the odd-numbered days ?

  • Delivering from Postfix to Exchange

    - by Van Gale
I have someone with two domains, a.com and b.com. a.com is running a postfix server on the mx host for the domain and I have total control of the server. b.com is running an exchange server on the mx host for the domain and I do not have any control of this server. They have been using b.com as their primary mail address and use the exchange calender with outlook. They want all the same functionality but want to start using a.com as primary mail address. I opened up postfix to allow relay from the ip address of the exchange server and hopefully that's enough from the outgoing side. For delivery though what can I do to forward all incoming emails to the exchange server? I have some aliases defined in /etc/aliases that should take higher priority.

  • Looking for a function that will split profits/loss equally between 2 business partners.

    - by Hamish Grubijan
This is not homework, for I am not a student. This is for my general curiosity. I apologize if I am reinventing the wheel here. The function I seek can be defined as follows (language agnostic): int getPercentageOfA(double moneyA, double workA, double moneyB, double workB) { // Perhaps you may assume that workA == 0 // Compute result return result; } Suppose Alice and Bob want to do business together ... such as ... selling used books. Alice is only interested in investing money in it and nothing else. Bob might invest some money, but he might have no $ available to invest. He will, however, put in the effort in finding a seller, a buyer, and doing maintenance. There are no tools, education, health insurance costs, or other expenses to consider. Both Alice and Bob wish to split the profits "equally" (A different weight like 40/60 for advanced users). Both are entrepreneurs, so they deal with low ROI/wage, and high income alike. There is no fixed wage, minimum wage, fixed ROI, or minimum ROI. They try to find the best deal possible, assume risks and go for it. Now, let's stick with the 50/50 model. If Alice invests $100, Bob invests work, and they will end up with a profit (or loss) of $60, they will split it equally - either both get $30 for their efforts/investments, or Bob ends up owing $30 to Alice. A second possibility: Both Alice and Bob invest 100, then Bob does all the work, and they end up splitting $60 profit. It looks like Alice should get only $15, because $30 of that profit came from Bob's investment and Bob's effort, so Alice shall have none of it, and the other $30 is to be split 50/50. Both of the examples above are trivial even when A and B want to split it 35/65 or what have you. Now it gets more complicated: What if Alice invests $70, and Bob invests $30 + does all of the work. It appears simple: (70,30) = (30,30) + (40,0) ... but, if only we knew how to weigh the two parts relative to each other. Another complicated (I think) example: what if Alice and Bob invest $70 and $30 respectively, and also put in an equal amount of work? I have a few data points: When A and B put in the same amount of work and the same $ - 50/50. When A puts in 100% of the money, and B does 100% of the work - 50/50. When A does all of the work and puts in all of the money - 100 for A / 0 for B (and vice-versa). When A puts in 50% of the money, and B puts in 50% of the money as well as does all of the work - 25 for A, and 75 for B (and vice-versa). If I fix things such that always workA = 0%, workB = 100% of the total work, then getPercentageOfA becomes a function: height z given x and y. The question is - how do you extrapolate this function between these several points? What is this function? If you can cover the cases when workA does not have to be 0% of the total work, and when investment vs work is split as 85/15 or using some other model, then what would the new function be?

  • svn diff including annotate/blame-alike information of when changes where made by who

    - by Wouter Coekaerts
Can you add annotate/blame-alike information to svn diff, so that for every changed line it includes which user and revision changed that line? For example, an annotate-diff comparing revisions 8-10 could output something like: 9 user1 - some line that user1 deleted in revision 9 10 user2 + some line that user2 added in revision 10 The context, lines around it which haven't changed, may be included as well or not, doesn't matter. It's not just a matter of "quickly" writing a shell script combining the output of svn diff and svn annotate. annotate for example will never show you who removed a line. It's also not a matter of doing annotate on a revision in the past: We're not interested in who originally added the line that got removed (that's not the one who "caused" the diff), we want to know who removed it. I suspect the only way to implement something to do this is to inspect each and every commit between the two revisions being compared (and somehow map all the changes in the separate diffs to lines in the total diff)... Does there exist a tool that does something like that?

I am using Notepad++ with FTP_Synchronize to upload files to a server, however, it appears that it is not allowing my file to upload because apparently the "Disk Quota Exceeded" 11:18:49 > -> TYPE I 11:18:49 > Response (200): Type set to I 11:18:49 > -> PASV 11:18:49 > Response (227): Entering Passive Mode (*,*,*,*,*,*). 11:18:50 > -> STOR /home/*/../../var/www/html/test.html 11:18:50 > Response (150): Opening BINARY mode data connection for /home/*/../../var/www/html/test.html 11:18:50 > Response (552): Transfer aborted. • Load Balancer recommendations

    - by delerious010
I provide hosting service for about 250 clients to date, and this is increasing on a monthly basis. For each client, I have 2 "services" configured for L4 balancing / persistence .. one on port 80, another for port 443 which redirects to another internal port as well as 4 servers per service. This equates to a total of 500 "services" and 2000 "servers". I'm currently running with a couple CoyotePoint load balancers, and have had a look at some Barracudas but so far I'm really not impressed by those. Could anyone recommend some good load balancers which would be able to support this sort of load ? And which offer a good API, or shell access to automate management.

  • Calculate disk space occupied by many .png files

    - by Alexander Farber
I have 357 .png files located in different sub dirs of the current dir: settings# find . -name \*.png |wc -l 357 settings# find . -name \*.png | head ./assets/authenticationIcons/audio.png ./assets/authenticationIcons/bbid.png ./assets/authenticationIcons/camera.png ./bin/icons/ca_video_chat.png ./bin/icons/ca_voice_control.png ./bin/icons/ca_vpn.png ./bin/icons/ca_wifi.png Is there a oneliner to calculate the total disk space occupied by them (before I pngcrush them)? • django fcgi - call a management command with subprocess.Popen

    - by user41855
Hi, I'm using an app called django-chronograph. It has a code of line which works in my dev environment and does not work in production: p = subprocess.Popen(['python', get_manage_py(), 'run_job', str(self.pk)]) This line crashes in production with: unknown command run_job Whereas when I run directly from command line: manage.py run_job It works fine. Interestingly it worked once when we exchanged 'python' with 'usr/bin/python'. then we restarted the server once more and it was back to old behaviour. Thus it seems as we have a python path issue. I'm not the guy who is running the server, its my app that should run and it would be great to get some help here. Attention: I'm a total noob regarding server-administration.. server environment: NGINX with FCGI-Daemon FCGI in prefork-mode

  • Why isn't this javascript with else if working?

    - by Uni
    I'm sorry I can't be any more specific - I have no idea where the problem is. I'm a total beginner, and I've added everything I know to add to the coding, but nothing happens when I push the button. I don't know at this point if it's an error in the coding, or a syntax error that makes it not work. Basically I am trying to get this function "Rip It" to go through the list of Dewey decimal numbers, change some of them, and return the new number and a message saying it's been changed. There is also one labeled "no number" that has to return an error (not necessarily an alert box, a message in the same space is okay.) I am a total beginner and not particularly good at this stuff, so please be gentle! Many thanks! <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function RipIt() { for (var i = l; i <=10 i=i+l) { var dewey=document.getElementById(i); dewey=parseFloat(dewey); if (dewey >= 100 && 200 >= dewey) { document.getElementById('dewey'+ 100) } else if (dewey >= 400 && 500 >= dewey) { document.getElementById('dewey'+ 200) } else if (dewey >= 850 && 900 >= dewey) { document.getElementById('dewey'-100) } else if (dewey >= 600 && 650 >= dewey) { document.getElementById('dewey'+17) } } } </script> </head> <body> <h4>Records to Change</h4> <ul id="myList"> <li id ="1">101.33</li> <li id = "2">600.01</li> <li id = "3">001.11</li> <li id = "4">050.02</li> <li id = "5">199.52</li> <li id = "6">400.27</li> <li id = "7">401.73</li> <li id = "8">404.98</li> <li id = "9">no number</li> <li id = "10">850.68</li> <li id = "11">853.88</li> <li id = "12">407.8</li> <li id = "13">878.22</li> <li id = "14">175.93</li> <li id = "15">175.9</li> <li id = "16">176.11</li> <li id = "17">190.97</li> <li id = "18">90.01</li> <li id = "19">191.001</li> <li id = "20">600.95</li> <li id = "21">602.81</li> <li id = "22">604.14</li> <li id = "23">701.31</li> <li id = "24">606.44</li> <li id = "25">141.77</li> </ul> <b> </b> <input type="button" value="Click To Run" onclick="RipIt()"> <!-- <input type="button" value="Click Here" onClick="showAlert();"> --> </body> </html>

  • Conflicting answers from du with different units

    - by dpitch40
My question is quite simple. I get this output when checking the total amount of space I'm using on my Walkman. david@Milton:/media$ du -b --max-depth=0 WALKMAN/ 14823290693 WALKMAN/ david@Milton:/media$ du -k --max-depth=0 WALKMAN/ 14523776 WALKMAN/ Last I checked, 14,523,776 KB * 1024 = 14,872,646,624 B, not 14,823,290,693. Dividing the two, their "K" unit seems to be equal to about 1020.62 rather than 1024 as advertised. This is causing some errors in the program I wrote to sync my Walkman, so it fills up faster than it claims to. Can anyone explain this discrepency?

  • Which is the best way to deploy a JBoss application?

    - by andreash
Hi there, we are currently developing a JBoss application. To deploy it, we have a total of four servers (three years old). I am wondering which might be the best to do? There could be a load balancer (even a load-balancer cluster, for failover) in front of two servers, each holding one JBoss and one PostgreSQl host inside XEN environments. Does this make sense? Are there other, better options? Thanks a lot for your advice!

  • terminal tools and logs for debugging TCP issues

    - by kellogs
I have a server which I am testing for functionality (not load, not stress) with tsung. 50 users / second, 100 total users. Judging from tsung (tsung is the testing framework) graphs, there TCP connections (red line) drops to 0 while the commenced user sessions (green line) does not. Server logs show nothing to be gripping onto, so I am speculating some kind of TCP issue. Should this be the case ? Where would I look further on the server, any logs / tools to be looking at ? Only SSH available, no GUI. > root@XMPP:~# cat /etc/lsb-release > DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu > DISTRIB_RELEASE=11.10 > DISTRIB_CODENAME=oneiric > DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 11.10" Thank you

  • Constantly diminishing free space on fedora 17

  • Reconciling vmware memory vs windows memory usage

    - by RyanW
I have a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit virtual machine on ESXi 4.1 host. The host reports that the virtual machine is actively using less than 1 GB of memory. But, in Windows it's reporting the machine is using 7 GB of memory, even though the total of the processes listed in task manager is less than 1 GB. The machine is rather unresponsive and I'm concerned this is impacting other applications (server's purpose is to run ASP.NET state server process, which has been having trouble and led me to spot the memory question). I just noticed High memory usage Windows Server 2008r2 on VMware and will be looking through those documents more, but what is causing this?

  • Creating a FAT file system and save it into a file in GNU/linux?

    - by RubenT
I tell you my problem: I want to create a FAT file system and save it into a so I can mount it in linux using something like: sudo mount -t msdos <file> <dest_folder> Maybe I'm wrong and this cannot be done. Anyway, the problem is this: I'm trying to create the file containing a FAT file system, and I'm running this command: sudo mkfs.vfat -F 32 -r 112 -S 512 -v -C "test.fat" 100 That, accordingly to the mkfs man page, will create a FAT32 file system with 112 rootdir entries, logical sector size of 512 bytes, 100 blocks in total, and save it into "test.fat". But it fails, and the bash tells me: mkfs.vfat: unable to create test.fat What is going on? I think I am misunderstanding how mkfs works and how to use it. It is possible to write a filesystem into a file?

  • How to increase the disk cache of Windows 7

    - by Mark Christiaens
Under Windows 7 (64 bit), I'm reading through 9000 moderately sized files. In total, there is more than 200 MB of data. Using Java (JDK 1.6.21) I'm iterating over the files. The first 1400 or so go at full speed but then speed drops off to 4ms per file. It turns out that the main cost is incurred simply by opening the files. I'm opening the files using new FileInputStream (and of course closing them in time to avoid file leaks). After some investigating, I see that Windows' disk cache is using only 100 MB or so of RAM although I have 8 GiB available. I've tried increasing the cache size using the CacheSet tool but any values I provide are considered out of range. I've also tried enabling the LargeSystemCache registry key but (after rebooting) the CacheSet tool still indicates I'm using 100 MB of cache (and doesn't increase during the test run). Does anybody have any suggestions to "encourage" Windows 7 to cache my 9000 files?

  • Photoshop causing other programs not receive ESC key

    - by user46935
When I run Photoshop CS4 on Windows 7, other running programs don't receive the ESC key (I noticed in PuTTY and Total Commander's Lister). When I close Photoshop, they start receiving the ESC key again. I tried multiple keyboard layouts, no change. Photoshop is an out-of-box install, no settings changed I exported the list of keybindings from Photoshop (ctrl-alt-shift-k) and ESC isn't used in any combination Why is this? Is there any way to disable or bypass this so that I could use other programs normally?

  • Deleting MySQL rows causes lock table error

    - by Dave L
I had a couple million rows to delete but they can't be deleted at once without this error ERROR 1206 (HY000): The total number of locks exceeds the lock table size So I wrote a script to delete 100,000 rows 10,000 at a time. It ran once but when I run it a second time I get the error on the first attempt to delete 10,000. The way I'm trying to delete the 10,000 rows is to use a delete statement that refers to all 2 million rows but I use a limit clause to affect only 10,000. I've tried adding an "unlock tables;" statement to the script before the first delete but that doesn't help. I still get the lock table error on the first delete. Any ideas how I can do this? Is there a way I can tell it NOT to lock records? I can make sure nothing else is accessing the table.
