  • Cisco ASA Hairpinning with Dynamic IP

    - by Joseph Sturtevant
I currently have my Cisco ASA 5505 firewall configured to forward port 80 from the outside interface to a host on my dmz interface. I also need to allow clients on my inside interface to access the host in the dmz by entering the public ip / dns record in their browsers. I was able to do that by following the instructions here, resulting in the following configuration: static (dmz, outside) tcp interface www 192.168.1.5 www netmask 255.255.255.255 static (dmz, inside) tcp 74.125.45.100 www 192.168.1.5 www netmask 255.255.255.255 (Where 74.125.45.100 is my public IP and 192.168.1.5 is the IP of the dmz host) This works great except for the fact that my network has a dynamic public IP and this configuration will therefore break as soon as my public IP changes. Is there a way to do what I want with a dynamic ip? Note: Adding an internal DNS record won't solve my problem since I have multiple dmz hosts mapped to different ports on the public IP.

  • Java update/install via group policy

    - by Maximus
I trying to deploy the latest Java RE version via GP, Java 7 update 9. I want to update computers that are currently running an older version of Java, a mixture of 7.6 and 7.7, some computers are running versions as old as 6.31. Some are running a mixture of both. I would also like this GP to install Java if it's not installed. Previously I used push out Java updates to users machines as Java didn't remove the old version. So when it was done the user would restart their browser or pc to start using the latest version. Not the best way to manage it as it leaves the old version installed but it worked. I've created group policies before for printer deployment, log on drive mapping scripts, but never software deployment. I've extracted the Java MSI and created a transform file to suppress reboot etc using orca. As described on this site http://ivan.dretvic.com/2011/06/how-to-package-and-deploy-java-jre-1-6-0_26-via-group-policy/. I have also tried saving the edited MSI directly and that didn't work either. But it just won't deploy. I have tried to enable logging as suggested on this site http://openofficetechnology.com/node/32, GPO logging via UserEnvDebugLevel, Software deployment logging via AppmgmtDebugLevel and MSI logging, but there is no log C:\Windows\Debug\UserMode\userenv.log being created. The windows event viewer has the following errors: Error 24/10/2012 11:44:04 AM - "Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. Software changes could not be applied. A previous log entry with details should exist. The error was : %%1612" Information 24/10/2012 11:44:04 AM - "The removal of the assignment of application Java 7 Update 9 - FB Java Transform from policy JavaDeploy succeeded." Error 24/10/2012 11:44:04 AM - "The install of application Java 7 Update 9 - FB Java Transform from policy JavaDeploy failed. The error was : %%1612" There is a log created for MSI logging and it's as below. It says the source is invalid but it exists on the share and the PC that I'm testing has permissions and I've included the recommendation here Group Policy installation failed error 1274 to enable "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" === Verbose logging started: 24/10/2012 11:43:59 Build type: SHIP UNICODE 5.00.7601.00 Calling process: C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe === MSI (c) (9C:EC) [11:43:59:898]: Resetting cached policy values MSI (c) (9C:EC) [11:43:59:898]: Machine policy value 'Debug' is 3 MSI (c) (9C:EC) [11:43:59:898]: ******* RunEngine: ******* Product: {26a24ae4-039d-4ca4-87b4-2f83217009ff} ******* Action: ******* CommandLine: ********** MSI (c) (9C:EC) [11:43:59:898]: Client-side and UI is none or basic: Running entire install on the server. • Login box not shown on Ubuntu

    - by Alexandre
Hi, I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 (64bit) as a guest OS in VirtualBox, using Windows7 Professional (64bit) as host. After Ubuntu install, I did installed Xfce4 (sudo apt-get install xfce4). Logged in using a Xfce session, and when I logged out, I couldn't see the login box anymore, only the regular gnome background from login screen. Then I restarted the virtual machine, and now I'm not able to see the login box anymore, only the gnome background. Does someone knows how to solve this? Thanks in advance

Is mod_deflate actually doing its job? (Sorry about the n00b-ishness)

  • openvpn TCP/UDP slow SSH/SMB performance

    - by Petr Latal
I have question about strange behavior of my openVPN configuration on Debian lenny. I have 2 server configs (one proto tcp-server based and one proto udp based). ISP bandwidth is 7Mbit/7Mbit. When I uses proto tcp-server my download server rate is fine around 6,4 Mbit/s, but upload rate is about 3Mbit/s. When I uses proto udp, my download server rate is around 3Mbit/s and upload rate around 6,4Mbit/s. I tried to handle the MTU, MSSFIX and cipher on/off on server and client configs to synchronize rates, but without solution. • Reconfigure RAID on Dell PowerEdge T710

    - by Stefano Borini
I have a Dell PowerEdge T710 under my feet at this very moment, with RedHat Enterprise Server 5.3. I have 6 1TB disks and two 500GB. parted reports two devices, one 500 GB and the other 4 TB. So I assume the RAID has been setup as mirror for two disks, and I assume as RAID 5 the remaining ones. I say "I assume" because it does not make sense. Having 6 disks in RAID 5, I should obtain a total space of 5 TB, not 4TB. It's not even RAID 10: I would end up with a 3 TB unit. How can I check and eventually modify the RAID array definition? In the Fujitsu Siemens I played with some time ago, at boot I had the chance to enter the controller BIOS, but here I don't see a clear way to perform this operation.

  • Unable to install Windows Installer 4.5 on Windows Server 2008

    - by Tim Trout
One of the prerequisites for installing SQL Server 2008 Express R2 is Windows Installer 4.5. I have a couple of WS2008 machines I'm prepping, so I downloaded the appropriate version of the file (Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x86.msu) to our file server and tried isntalling it on both machines. On both machines I get the cryptic 0x80070003 error: "the system cannot find the file specified", but it does not show which file it cannot find. I don't get this when I try to install the Windows XP version on one of my XP machines. Any clues as to what I might be missing or doing wrong? One Technet help forum suggested I try installing the "System Update Readiness Tool", but this installer also fails for the same error code.

  • IIS7 bulk bindings in vbscript , how to remove a binding

    - by minus4
I have a script to manage adding over a thousand domains to a single site bindings, this has gone fine, but now client wants about 20 of them removed, Microsoft programmers don't think it would be nice to sort the bindings alphabetically, so does anyone know the code to remove the domains ( array list ) in bulk please. this is what i am using: Set adminManager = createObject("Microsoft.ApplicationHost.WritableAdminManager") adminManager.CommitPath = "MACHINE/WEBROOT/APPHOST" Set sitesSection = adminManager.GetAdminSection("system.applicationHost/sites", "MACHINE/WEBROOT/APPHOST") Set sitesCollection = sitesSection.Collection siteElementPos = FindElement(sitesCollection, "site", Array("name", "microsites")) If siteElementPos = -1 Then WScript.Echo "Element not found!" WScript.Quit End If on error resume next Set siteElement = sitesCollection.Item(siteElementPos) Set bindingsCollection = siteElement.ChildElements.Item("bindings").Collection Dim arrFileNames : arrFileNames = Array("list of domains") Dim objDict : Set objDict = CreateObject("Scripting.Dictionary") Dim strFileName, strTemp For Each strFileName In arrFileNames Set bindingElement = bindingsCollection.CreateNewElement("binding") bindingElement.Properties.Item("protocol").Value = "http" bindingElement.Properties.Item("bindingInformation").Value = "192.168.100.19:80:" & strFileName bindingsCollection.AddElement(bindingElement) Next adminManager.CommitChanges() WScript.Echo "Job Completed" WScript.Quit Function FindElement(collection, elementTagName, valuesToMatch) For i = 0 To CInt(collection.Count) - 1 Set element = collection.Item(i) If element.Name = elementTagName Then matches = True For iVal = 0 To UBound(valuesToMatch) Step 2 Set property = element.GetPropertyByName(valuesToMatch(iVal)) value = property.Value If Not IsNull(value) Then value = CStr(value) End If If Not value = CStr(valuesToMatch(iVal + 1)) Then matches = False Exit For End If Next If matches Then Exit For End If End If Next If matches Then FindElement = i Else FindElement = -1 End If End Function so as you can see it is easy to add, but i can find no code or manual or instructions for the removal. i cant seem to run appcmd either. at first i tried creating a batch file using the appcmd but this never worked, saying appcmd can not be found. thanks

  • QoS basics on a Cisco ASA

    - by qbn
Could someone briefly explain how to use QoS on Cisco ASA 5505? I have the basics of policing down, but what about shaping and priorities? Basically what I'm trying to do is carve out some bandwidth for my VPN subnets (in an object-group called priority-traffic). I've seen this Cisco QoS document, however configuring shaping and priority-queue don't seem to have any effects in my test. A full download of the linux kernel from kernel.org will boost a ping to a server via VPN sky high. Policing has been successful in passing this test, although it doesn't seem as efficient (I cap non-vpn traffic at 3 of my 4.5 megabits of bandwidth). Am I misunderstanding the results of the test? I think there is some simple concept I'm not grasping here. • Getting 0x80070043 error when accessing Samba share from Windows 7

    - by FelixM
I created a Samba share on my new Ubuntu 10.04 machine. When I try to access it from a Windows 7 client, I get network error 0x80070043 (The network path not found). However, I get this error when I click on the share in the Windows Explorer, so it seems that Windows does find the path. I already enabled NTLMv1, disabled 128bit security and made sure that NetBIOS is running. I briefly disabled the Windows firewall, it didn't make a difference. What could be the problem?

  • Howto WCF Service HTTPS Binding and Endpoint Configuration in IIS with Load Balancer?

    - by Mike G
We have a WCF service that is being hosted on a set of 12 machines. There is a load balancer that is a gateway to these machines. Now the site is setup as SSL; as in a user accesses it through using an URL with https. I know this much, the URL that addresses the site is https, but none of the servers has a https binding or is setup to require SSL. This leads me to believe that the load balancer handles the https and the connection from the balancer to the servers are unencrypted (this takes place behind the firewall so no biggie there). The problem we're having is that when a Silverlight client tries to access a WCF service it is getting a "Not Found" error. I've set up a test site along with our developer machines and have made sure that the bindings and endpoints in the web.config work with the client. It seems to be the case in the production environment that we get this error. Is there anything wrong with the following web.config? Should we be setting up how https is handled in a different manner? We're at a loss on this currently since I've tried every programmatic solution with endpoints and bindings. None of the solutions I have found deal with a load balancer in the manner we're dealing. • virtual directory make file copy operation extremely slow on UNC Path (IIS 7.5 bug?)

    - by user144737
When i create a website/virtual directory pointing to UNC path, its make our file copy extremely slow on the UNC path. 6 seconds for file copy (~13 M) on the UNC path without any virtual directory/website pointing to it. over 1 mins. for file copy (same files ~13M) on the same UNC path with virtual directory/website pointing to it. All file copy operation run on web server side. Our setting as below: Web server - Windows Server standard R2 2008 / IIS 7.5 File server - Windows Server standard 2003 I have tested this case on 3 servers (Windows Server standard R2 2008 / IIS 7.5) and got same result. I also tested this case on 2 windows 2003 / IIS 6, it won't slow down the file copy. Is it IIS 7.5 bug? any patch/hotfix to solve this case? Thank you. Gordon

  • How can I solve the apache2 httpd error "mixing * ports and non-* ports with a NameVirtualHost addre

Here is the error I get when booting up Apache2: * Starting web server apache2 apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.1.1 for ServerName [Wed Oct 21 16:37:26 2009] [error] VirtualHost *:80 -- mixing * ports and non-* ports with a NameVirtualHost address is not supported, proceeding with undefined results [Wed Oct 21 16:37:26 2009] [error] VirtualHost *:80 -- mixing * ports and non-* ports with a NameVirtualHost address is not supported, proceeding with undefined results [Wed Oct 21 16:37:26 2009] [error] VirtualHost *:80 -- mixing * ports and non-* ports with a NameVirtualHost address is not supported, proceeding with undefined results [Wed Oct 21 16:37:26 2009] [error] VirtualHost *:80 -- mixing * ports and non-* ports with a NameVirtualHost address is not supported, proceeding with undefined results [Wed Oct 21 16:37:26 2009] [warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts I first followed this guide on setting up Apache to host multiple sites: http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/412 I then found a similar question on ServerFault and tried applying the solution, but it didn't help. Here is an example of my final VirtualHost config: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName www.xxx.com ServerAlias xxx.com # Indexes + Directory Root. DirectoryIndex index.html DocumentRoot /var/www/www.xxx.com # Logfiles ErrorLog /var/www/www.xxx.com/logs/error.log CustomLog /var/www/www.xxx.com/logs/access.log combined </VirtualHost> with the domain X'd out to protect the innocent :-) Also, I have the conf.d/virtual.conf file mentioned in the guide looking like this: NameVirtualHost * The odd thing is that everything appears to work fine for two of the three sites.

  • Legacy non-dpi-aware application resolution scaling?

    - by Miles Erickson
Our environment prominently featuers an outdated but absolutely mission-critical Win32 application that is not dpi-aware. It is optimized for an 800x600 display. Most of our users now have 17"-20" displays with native resolutions ranging from 1280x1024 to 1680x1050. However, they still operate these displays at 800x600 because the text in this legacy application is otherwise too small. Of course, it also means that nothing quite fits on the screen in Office 2007. Most of our workstations still run Windows XP, but some are on Windows 7 and there are more to come. About one-third of our users run the app remotely via MS Terminal Services, and the remainder run it locally. Is anyone aware of any method that could be used to scale this specific application to about 170%, so that it would fill a 1280x1024 screen, without affecting other applications that work best at the display's native resolution? I know how to do this in Mac OS X, but I have never found a way to do it in Windows. Of course, this ideally would be something that we could push out via Group Policy. I suppose we even could create a custom MSI package to re-deploy the legacy application with some sort of display virtualization layer, if such a thing exists.

  • openvz and iptables

    - by rizen
http://wiki.openvz.org/Setting_up_an_iptables_firewall mentions to load xt_state before starting a container in order to run iptables in containers. so I ran modprobe xt_state on the host and restarted the container and it worked great. To make this persist I added xt_state to /etc/modules. The problem is when I restart the physical node the containers iptables wont work unless I manually restart the container, at which point it'll work again. lsmod shows that xt_state is loaded. anyone know why my containers iptables won't work until I manually restart the container?

  • CheckPoint Endpoint Security VPN client co-existing with Windows VPN

    - by Nils
Hey guys, I work as a consultant for a firm with a Checkpoint firewall. I have downloaded and installed the Checkpoint Endpoint Security VPN client. During the installation, I answered no to any questions pertaining firewall etc. - I just wanted the VPN client itself. However, after the installation, I am no longer able to use any of my pre-existing Windows VPN client connections. It does not matter whether the Checkpoint UI is running or not - shutting down the client does not fix the problem. Uninstalling Checkpoint VPN on the other hand fixes the problem. Does anyone know if it is possible to have both VPN clients work while being installed simultaneously? I don't need them to stay connected simultaneously, just avoiding to install/uninstall the Checkpoint client every time I have to use it is perfectly good. Thanks!

  • PostgreSQL lots of writes

    - by strife911
    Hi, I am using postgreSQL for a scientific application (unsupervised clustering). The python program is multi-threaded so that each thread manages its own postmaster process (one per core). Hence, their is a lot of concurrency. Each thread-process loop infinitely though two SQL queries. The first is for reading, the second is for writing. The read operation considers 500 time the amount of rows the write operation considers. Here is the output of dstat: ----total-cpu-usage---- ------memory-usage----- -dsk/total- --paging-- --io/total- usr sys idl wai hiq siq| used buff cach free| read writ| in out | read writ 4 0 32 64 0 0|3599M 63M 57G 1893M|1524k 16M| 0 0 | 98 2046 1 0 35 64 0 0|3599M 63M 57G 1892M|1204k 17M| 0 0 | 68 2062 2 0 32 66 0 0|3599M 63M 57G 1890M|1132k 17M| 0 0 | 62 2033 2 1 32 65 0 0|3599M 63M 57G 1904M|1236k 18M| 0 0 | 80 1994 2 0 31 67 0 0|3599M 63M 57G 1903M|1312k 16M| 0 0 | 70 1900 2 0 37 60 0 0|3599M 63M 57G 1899M|1116k 15M| 0 0 | 71 1594 2 1 37 60 0 0|3599M 63M 57G 1898M| 448k 17M| 0 0 | 39 2001 2 0 25 72 0 0|3599M 63M 57G 1896M|1192k 17M| 0 0 | 78 1946 1 0 40 58 0 0|3599M 63M 57G 1895M| 432k 15M| 0 0 | 38 1937 I am pretty sure I could write more often than that for I have seen it write up to 110-140M on dstat. How can I optimize this process?
