• Open-source navigation software and 3rd party hardware

  I'm a bit fed up with the current navigator (TomTom) as it turned to adware after six months of use. "Please buy new maps at www.tomtom.com, click this button to see what you wanted to do". Is there any (good) OSS navigation software with support for proprietary hardware? I'm perfectly happy to purchase separate maps and hardware for the software as long as I don't have to give my money to TomTom or Navigon.

• Package SWF into an EXE or APP

  I am trying to adjust my Flash development workflow so that I am using Flash Builder for all of my coding and multiple FLA files for the user interfaces. I will be creating an ActionScript project in Flash Builder and then having each FLA export a SWC into a resources folder. It is important that I retain the ability to export PC and Mac -- EXE and app, respectively -- projector files. Is there a way of doing this with the Flash compiler or any 3rd party tools?

Because of the nature of this particular application, I believe it would benefit greatly from a web-based approach (i.e., allowing a user to interface with the application through a browser running in kiosk mode) in order to leverage the simplicity of HTML/CSS/JS and the availability of many great JS interface plugins. Does taking this approach (rather than coding in a native or cross-platform graphics library) come with any gotchas?

• Defining an environment shorthand in Latex using \newcommand

  I'd like to define a shorthand command for \begin{align*} and \end{align*}. When I write \newcommand{\ba}{\begin{align*}} it works fine. But when I write \newcommand{\ea}{\end{align*}} latex complains. It looks like it's interpreting it as part of the environment and is not happy with that. Anyone know how to fix this?

  How do I get visual studio 2005 to work best with .asp files? I used to have this on my old PC but I can't get the settings right. I exported and important all my old settings and still no dice. alternatively I think there might be an even better choice for classic asp IDE editor. It'd be nice to have intellisense, completion, highlighting, stuff like that for ASP (vbscript) and css/html at the same time. (I'm happy not to type out css selectors) thanks

• Twitter authentication without authorization

  I wish to get the tweeter usename of a visitor to my site. I do not wish to post statuses or access any other information. I'd be happy to use OAuth, possibly with a 'Sign in with Twitter' button, but this then takes the user to a page which requests authorization for the application, that I wish to avoid. • Is there any real alternative to GeoServer as dynamic map generator in Java ?

After some searching, only GeoServer (and the underlying GeoTools library) seems to fit. • Best reporting engine for WPF without a database?

  Does anyone know of a Reporting Engine for WPF? Most of the ones I could find are still for WinForms. I'm happy enough using a WinForms one in WPF with a WinForms host so long as the tool has a UserControl that can be embedded in a window. Also, I'm not using a database and all my data is in XML so the Reporting Engine needs to be able to handle that. Any suggestions?
