  • Replace ",**" with a linebreak using RegEx (or something else)

    - by John
    I'm getting started with RegEx and I was wondering if anyone could help me craft a statement to convert coordinates as follows: 145.00694,-37.80421,9 145.00686,-37.80382,9 145.00595,-37.8035,16 145.00586,-37.80301,16 to 145.00694,-37.80421 145.00686,-37.80382 145.00595,-37.8035 145.00586,-37.80301 (Strip off the last comma and value and turn it into a line break.) I can't figure out how to use wildcards to do something like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

  • What is the fastest way to get a DataTable into SQL Server?

    - by John Gietzen
    I have a DataTable in memory that I need to dump straight into a SQL Server temp table. After the data has been inserted, I transform it a little bit, and then insert a subset of those records into a permanent table. The most time consuming part of this operation is getting the data into the temp table. Now, I have to use temp tables, because more than one copy of this app is running at once, and I need a layer of isolation until the actual insert into the permanent table happens. What is the fastest way to do a bulk insert from a C# DataTable into a SQL Temp Table? I can't use any 3rd party tools for this, since I am transforming the data in memory. My current method is to create a parameterized SqlCommand: INSERT INTO #table (col1, col2, ... col200) VALUES (@col1, @col2, ... @col200) and then for each row, clear and set the parameters and execute. There has to be a more efficient way. I'm able to read and write the records on disk in a matter of seconds...

  • Save object in CoreData

    - by John
    I am using CoreData with iPhone SDK. I am making a notes app. I have a table with note objects displayed from my model. When a button is pressed I want to save the text in the textview to the object being edited. How do I do this? I've been trying several things but none seem to work. Thanks EDIT: NSManagedObjectContext *context = [fetchedResultsController managedObjectContext]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [[fetchedResultsController fetchRequest] entity]; NSManagedObject *newManagedObject = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:[entity name] inManagedObjectContext:context]; [newManagedObject setValue:detailViewController.textView.text forKey:@"noteText"]; NSError *error; if (![context save:&error]) { /* Replace this implementation with code to handle the error appropriately. abort() causes the application to generate a crash log and terminate. You should not use this function in a shipping application, although it may be useful during development. If it is not possible to recover from the error, display an alert panel that instructs the user to quit the application by pressing the Home button. */ NSLog(@"Unresolved error %@, %@", error, [error userInfo]); abort(); } The above code saves it correctly but it saves it as a new object. I want it to be saved as the one I have selected in my tableView.

  • Is my code really not unit-testable?

    - by John
    A lot of code in a current project is directly related to displaying things using a 3rd-party 3D rendering engine. As such, it's easy to say "this is a special case, you can't unit test it". But I wonder if this is a valid excuse... it's easy to think "I am special" but rarely actually the case. Are there types of code which are genuinely not suited for unit-testing? By suitable, I mean "without it taking longer to figure out how to write the test than is worth the effort"... dealing with a ton of 3D math/rendering it could take a lot of work to prove the output of a function is correct compared with just looking at the rendered graphics.

  • How do I get the output of an Xcode user script to auto indent?

    - by John Gallagher
    The Problem I want to press a key when I have a line highlighted and convert from a single line: JGLogEntry *logEntry = [JGLogEntry applicationNoWindowsFrom:date1 to:date2 intoMOC:mockRawMOC]; to a multiline statement: JGLogEntry *logEntry = [JGLogEntry applicationNoWindowsFrom:date1 to:date2 intoMOC:mockRawMOC]; What I've Tried I've got a simple ruby script that almost gets me there. #!/usr/bin/env ruby s = STDIN.read s.gsub!(/(:.+?\w) (\w.+?)/,'\1' + "\n\t" +'\2') print s When I set the output to "Replace Selection", I get this: JGLogEntry *logEntry = [JGLogEntry applicationNoWindowsFrom:date1 to:date2 intoMOC:mockRawMOC]; When I set the output to "Place on Clipboard", then paste it in, I get the desired result: JGLogEntry *logEntry = [JGLogEntry applicationNoWindowsFrom:date1 to:date2 intoMOC:mockRawMOC]; However, this is two keypresses which is clumsy. Any ideas how I can get the replaced text to obey Xcode's auto indent rules?

  • Is it possible to open a context menu from a map overlay item in android?

    - by John Nicholson
    This below code works fine opening an alert dialog. I was wondering if it's possible to open a context menu from within a map overlay class? @Override protected boolean onTap(int index) { OverlayItem item = mOverlays.get(index); AlertDialog.Builder dialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(mContext); dialog.setTitle(item.getTitle()); dialog.setMessage(item.getSnippet()); dialog.show(); return true; }

  • Why do you have to call URLConnection#getInputStream to be able to write out to URLConnection#getOutputStream?

    - by John
    I'm trying to write out to URLConnection#getOutputStream, however, no data is actually sent until I call URLConnection#getInputStream. Even if I set URLConnnection#doInput to false, it still will not send. Does anyone know why this is? There's nothing in the API documentation that describes this. Java API Documentation on URLConnection: http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/net/URLConnection.html Java's Tutorial on Reading from and Writing to a URLConnection: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/networking/urls/readingWriting.html import java.io.IOException; import java.io.OutputStreamWriter; import java.net.URL; import java.net.URLConnection; public class UrlConnectionTest { private static final String TEST_URL = "http://localhost:3000/test/hitme"; public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { URLConnection urlCon = null; URL url = null; OutputStreamWriter osw = null; try { url = new URL(TEST_URL); urlCon = url.openConnection(); urlCon.setDoOutput(true); urlCon.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "text/plain"); //////////////////////////////////////// // SETTING THIS TO FALSE DOES NOTHING // //////////////////////////////////////// // urlCon.setDoInput(false); osw = new OutputStreamWriter(urlCon.getOutputStream()); osw.write("HELLO WORLD"); osw.flush(); ///////////////////////////////////////////////// // MUST CALL THIS OTHERWISE WILL NOT WRITE OUT // ///////////////////////////////////////////////// urlCon.getInputStream(); ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // If getInputStream is called while doInput=false, the following exception is thrown: // // java.net.ProtocolException: Cannot read from URLConnection if doInput=false (call setDoInput(true)) // ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (osw != null) { osw.close(); } } } }

  • jQuery - getting the id of the item selected

    - by John Leonard
    I have a basic jQuery selector question. Let's say I'm parsing JSON and generating a row of data for each item in my result set. On each item row, I want an action button. What is the best practice to script that button so its click action can reference the data specific to that row? Starting with the block below, how do I generate a 'Click Me' button that when clicked will alert with its json data? $.getJSON(url,params,function(json){ if(json.items){ $.each(json.items, function(i, n){ var item = json.items[i];

  • Trouble with StreamReader

    - by John
    Alright so here is what I have so far, List<string> lines = new List<string>(); using (StreamReader r = new StreamReader(f)) { string line; while ((line = r.ReadLine()) != null) { lines.Add(line); } } foreach (string s in lines) { NetworkStream stream = irc.GetStream(); writer.WriteLine(USER); writer.Flush(); writer.WriteLine("NICK " + NICK); writer.Flush(); writer.WriteLine("JOIN " + s); writer.Flush(); string trimmedString = string.Empty; CHANNEL = s; } Unfortunately when my IRC dummy enters a room with a password set it writes out the password, if I make it change channel with a command such as #lol test test being the password, since CHANNEL = s; it writes out the password with the command writer.WriteLine("PRIVMSG " + CHANNEL + " :" + "Hello"); That is the only way to write out to IRC so is there a way for the "CHANNEL" to only be the start of the text and just #lol so it doesn't write out the password? I hope you understand my problem.

  • how is a macro expanded in clojure?

    - by john wang
    In the book Programming Clojure(Stuart), when read how macros are expanded I got confused. user=> (defmacro chain ([x form] (list '. x form)) ([x form & more] (concat (list 'chain (list '. x form)) more))) #'user/chain The above macro can be expanded as: user=> (macroexpand '(chain a b c)) (. (. a b) c) But the following is only expanded to the first level: user=> (macroexpand '(and a b c)) (let* [and__3822__auto__ a] (if and__3822__auto__ (clojure.core/and b c) and__3822__auto__)) The and macro source: user=> (source and) (defmacro and([] true) ([x] x) ([x & next] `(let [and# ~x] (if and# (and ~@next) and#)))) Why is the chain macro expanded all the way but the and not ? Why is it not expanded to something like the following: user=> (macroexpand '(chain a b c d)) (. (chain a b c) d)

  • Jira task hierarchies

    - by John
    Searching online, I see lots of people asking for features to have multiple levels of sub-tasks, and proper sub-task functionality (like FogBugz). But I don't know if it's planned in future versions, or if plugins exist to provide this functionality. Does anyone know?

  • What's the smallest DirectX installer I can distribute in my Software?

    - by John
    My application uses DirectX 9.0c. There are many installers for the end-user run-times, ranging from 400Kb to 100Mb+ and obviously I don't want to bloat my installer file. However, I believe there are potentially legal restrictions which mean I can't just distribute whichever MS installers I might choose. This is the one I'd ideally like to include, is it the best /correct one?

  • What is Restful Routing?

    - by John Baker
    I have been searching pretty hard for info out on the net to explain exactly what Restful routing is but I haven't had any success. There are a lot of resources but not a who lot make sense to me. I'm familiar with Ruby On Rails's routing system and well as how Code Igniter and PhpCake route things but is there more to it than having a centralized location where you give out routes based on a directory structure? Like this: controller/action/id/ Admin/editUser/22 I'd appreciate any help with this, it's had me baffled for months. I just thought of putting it on SO. Thanks

  • Migrating away from Clearcase

    - by John Clark
    We are migrating from Clearcase to another VCS (probably either SVN or Mercurial). For companies that have made this transition, what factors did they find important in selecting another VCS tool, and what practices did they find eased the transition?

  • Microsoft learning support for VS2010

    - by John
    OK, I am a big fan of WPF, and while it is large area to fully understand, Microsoft has been great in posting loads of training video at http://windowsclient.net/learn/videos_wpf.aspx However with the release of 2010 it all seams to have gone very quiet. I expected a lot of the support to be updated for 2010 and I also expected a lot of new videos on the best way to use the new features in 2010. Currently I find myself working through videos based on 2008 (or even 2005) and trying to apply them to 2010. Don't get me wrong it not that I mind doing this, it just that I fear I may be learning methods which have better or different solutions in 2010. It is just me expecting too much of Microsoft, or have I missed out on a new website?

  • Checking deployed port in ruby on rails application

    - by john chan
    Is there an elegant way to check which port you deployed a ruby on rails application using mongrel? I could not find a directive (i.e. such as #{RAILS_ROOT} which contains the root directory of the application) that I can use to perform a check. I need this to do a check since I am deploying the same application on different ports and I need the app to do different things according to the port that is being accessed. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks
