  • How does a programmer without a degree gain experience? [on hold]

    - by user96872
Having a few years of experience is a must for many programming jobs nowadays. If one does not have a college degree but would like to get some experience with programming (with some prior knowledge, say, in JavaScript, PHP and Python), what are some ways to gain the experience that employers seek? I know about personal projects, but how about team experience and everything that goes along with it? Would I need to volunteer somewhere?

  • Your Presence Matters at the PASS Summit

    - by AllenMWhite
This year will be my tenth year attending the annual PASS Summit. It's in Seattle again this year, which to me is important because of the proximity to the Microsoft offices and the people on the SQL Server dev team, as well as the CX (formerly CAT) teams that help so many people get the most out of SQL Server. The conference is the biggest event in the world specifically focused on SQL Server. As a result, it's an opportunity to meet many people who are directly focused on the SQL Server platform,...(read more)

We are having trouble testing it since we are not sure how to verify if it works on all the different devices. Can anybody suggest some best practices, a testing framework, or some sort of way to give us feedback on how to test our app and/or get feedback from our users so they can tell us the problems they are having?

  • My company's management wants to deduct from the salary of under performing employees. How can I convince them not to?

    - by Sparky
My company's management wants to deduct from the salary of under performing employees. I'm a member of the Core Strategy committee and they want my opinion also. I believe that the throughput from an employee depends on a lot of things such as the particular work assigned to them, other members of his/her team, other reasons etc. Such penalizations will be demoralizing to the people. How can I convince my management not to do so?

  • calculating player experience

    - by user1765862
very simple question, I'm trying to learn advanced principles of .net and c# and I'm in the middle of creating some simple manager game. Now I should implement some experience for players. I was thinking to implement some kind of enumerated values like this private enum ExperienceValues { FriendlyMatch = 0.1, Training = 0.15, LeagueMatch = 0.6, CupMatch = 0.85, Qualification = 1.4 } And to calculate experience by the time user spend on the field 90min * 0.6 = 54 Is this approach ok ? How can I abstract experience calculation for common sports (team sport). Thanks
