I'm presently using web.com for website hosting. I've had some so-so experiences, and think they are a little overpriced. We have a fairly simple website - no e-commerce. We do need plenty of storage space, though.
What web hosts are people happy with?
I am writing a website and want to test it's speed on slower internet connections.
I have the unfortunate first world problem of downloading at 100mbps, how can I throttle my own computer's internet connection to 56kbps or 5mbps to give myself an idea of how my users might be downloading my website?
EDIT: I am using Windows primarily but also have an ubuntu laptop if the answer is linux oriented.
I asked this question on stackoverflow and it was suggested that I try it here:
I'm building a website where users can upload photos and I'd also convert uploaded photos into thumbnails.
Planning ahead, if the website gets popular, how do I scale it out so that the images (both original and thumbnails) will be stored in and served from multiple servers? Maybe a cluster? Is there any open source software that would help me in this?
Thanks.
Hi Guys,
I am wondering how I can map my development website - hosted via 127.0.0.1:81 - to an external IP address so it can be accessed from outside my PC ?
I have a static IP address - [example] 11.111.111.11 - and want to be able to show the website to clients via allowing them to view the site ?
Would anyone be able to explain this for Win7 ?
I tested several times, running using different internet browser (IE, FF, Chrome, Safari and Opera), none of those getting 8080. Recently I got some complaints from my users, saying my website giving errors:[my website ip]:8080 error. What is that error? And how do I resolve it?
I guess a better way to ask this question (or an alternative to it, in my case) would be to first ask how to do this instead. Namely, I want to have a gadget on my desktop (not just in a browser window) with options such as overlaying on top of other windows, offline caching, etc. that is dedicated expressly to a given website (no browsing functions or menus). Be even more awesome if I could indicate a specific physical part of the website to show in the gadget.

Hi
I have a joomla installation with a contacts form. Specifically, there are two contacts with position, email, name, phone. However, joomla seems to insist on having two empty columns "Mobile phone" and "Fax" that I can't seem to get rid of. Neither contact has a mobile phone or fax, and they are disabled in both sets of contact parameters?
what am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
Mala
Can somebody explain briefly the differences between a "WSS Web Application" and a normal "IIS Website"?
I have read that a WSS web application is a "special" IIS Website with WSS featured.
I also know that the content of a web application is stored in an SQL Server Website(called the content database) whereas an IIS Website stores it on a hard disk on the server.
A point-by-point difference would be appreciated.

Hi,
I am trying to get mobile phone number from Android contacts. I found several examples using People.NUMBER, but it seems that brings home phone number not MOBILE phone number. I want to accomplish this using old way instead of using ContactsContract. Can somebody show simple code example how this can be done?
Thank you very much.
