  • A question about "empty" lists in Python

    - by bitrex
I've started teaching myself Python, and as an exercise I've set myself the task of generating lookup tables I need for another project. I need to generate a list of 256 elements in which each element is the value of math.sin(2pi/256). The problem is I don't know how to generate a list initialized to "dummy" values that I can then use a for loop to step through and assign the values of the sin function. Using list[] seems to create an "empty" list, but with no elements so I get a "list assignment index out of range" error in the loop. Is there a way to this other than explicitly creating a list declaration containing 256 elements all with "0" as a value? Thanks!

  • How To find the location of any treeviewitem in silverlight

    - by user312772
Hi I am new in silverlight 3. I want to find the location of any treeview Item . Although I applied this code GeneralTransform gt = ProjectTree.TransformToVisual(Application.Current.RootVisual as UIElement); Point offset = gt.Transform(new Point(0, 0)); double controlTop = offset.Y; double controlLeft = offset.X; Here Project tree is the root element of the treeview. This code is working But when I applied this for any child TreeViewelement of Treeview then an exception occurs "Value does not fall within the expected range." How to find the location of this child treeview element object

  • Limit number of charchters in uitextview !

    - by hib
Hello All , I am giving a text view to tweet some string . I am applying the following method to restrict the number of characters to 140 in length. - (BOOL)textView:(UITextView *)textView shouldChangeTextInRange:(NSRange)range replacementText:(NSString *)text{ if([text isEqualToString:@"\b"]){ DLog(@"Ohoooo"); return YES; }else if([[textView text] length] > 140){ return NO; } return YES; } The code is working nicely except the first condition that backspace is not working. suppose that I have reached the limit of 140 characters so that the method will give me false and the user can not insert more characters but after that when I try to delete some characters the text view behave as it is disabled . So the question how do delete characters from textview.text or re-enable the text view .

  • FullCalendar: Change agendaDay background-color..

    - by Nick-ACNB
While I have seen this question asked, I haven't seen the answer. Basically, I just want to be able to color the background-color of the TD from a certain range.. Say I have my calendar that has slot minutes every 15 minutes and from 9am to 9pm, I would like to only color differently 10am to 3pm. This information would be coming from a feed but that is not an issue. I haven't found the TDs relating to a set time inside the calendar. Perhaps I missed something? :) I am rather new to jQuery and fullCalendar. Also, another quick question that is unrelated to the main one: is it possible from an event handler to get the id of the calendar that launched it? I have multiple calendars on my page to simulate something like a Gantt view. This will let me be able to fetch the right feed and populate the right events. Thank you for your time.

  • WCF Message Debugging on Custom Binding

    - by Programming Hero
I've created a custom binding in WCF for a custom MessageEncoder to allow messages to be written as XML using a wider range of encodings than WCF supports out of the box. The encoder appears to be working and I am able to send and receive messages, but I want to verify that the XML message being written is exactly as required by the service I am trying to consume. I've turned on message logging for WCF using the diagnostic trace listeners to output the messages sent and received over the wire to a log file. Unfortunately, for calls using my encoder, the message is displayed as ... stream ... EDIT: I don't think it's anything to do with my custom encoding. I have experimented with my custom binding a little, switching to using the built-in text encoding and http transport. I still don't get a message body logged in the message trace. Is there anything that needs to be specified within a custom binding to enable message logging?

Hi There! I am writing a sql query which involves finding if timestamp falls in particular range of days . I have written that in the postgres but it doesn't works in oracle and msssql. Is there are common way to compare the timestamp across different database. My postgres sql looks something like this ... • Modifying Bresenham's line algorithm

    - by sphennings
    I'm trying to use Bresenham's line algorithm to compute Field of View on a grid. The code I'm using calculates the lines without a problem but I'm having problems getting it to always return the line running from start point to endpoint. What do I need to do so that all lines returned run from (x0,y0) to (x1,y1) def bresenham_line(self, x0, y0, x1, y1): steep = abs(y1 - y0) > abs(x1 - x0) if steep: x0, y0 = y0, x0 x1, y1 = y1, x1 if x0 > x1: x0, x1 = x1, x0 y0, y1 = y1, y0 if y0 < y1: ystep = 1 else: ystep = -1 deltax = x1 - x0 deltay = abs(y1 - y0) error = -deltax / 2 y = y0 line = [] for x in range(x0, x1 + 1): if steep: line.append((y,x)) else: line.append((x,y)) error = error + deltay if error > 0: y = y + ystep error = error - deltax return line

  • Joda time : DateTimeFormatter : beginning of a day

    - by bsreekanth
Hello, DateTimeFormatter fmt = DateTimeFormat.forStyle('SS').withLocale(locale) DateTime dt = fmt.parseDateTime("11/4/03 8:14 PM"); the above statement will parse the string correctly, and save as DateTime (Joda Time). Now how to represent the beginning of a day. The below fails with DateTime dt = fmt.parseDateTime("11/4/03 00:01 AM"); Cannot parse "11/4/03 00:01 AM": Value 0 for clockhourOfHalfday must be in the range [1,12] I'm obviously confused with the standards, like what is the short representation of the beginning of a day. thanks.

  • OpenCV's cvKMeans2 - chosing clusters

    - by Goffrey
Hi, I'm using cvKMeans2 for clustering, but I'm not sure, how it works in general - the part of choosing clusters. I thought that it set the first positions of clusters from given samples. So it means that in the end of clustering process would every cluster has at least one sample - in the output array of cluster labels will be full range of numbers (for 100 clusters - numbers 0 to 99). But as I checked output labels, I realised that some labels weren't used at all and only some were used. So, does anyone know, how it works? Or how should I use the parameters of cvKMeans2 to do what I want (cause I'm not sure if I use them right)? I'm using cvKMeans2 function also with optional parameters: cvKMeans2(descriptorMat, N_CLUSTERS, clusterLabels, cvTermCriteria( CV_TERMCRIT_EPS+CV_TERMCRIT_ITER, 10, 1.0), 1, 0, 0, clusterCenters, 0) Thanks for any advices!

  • Combinatorics, probability, dice

    - by TarGz
    A friend of mine asked: if I have two dice and I throw both of them, what is the most frequent sum (of the two dice' numbers)? I wrote a small script: from random import randrange d = dict((i, 0) for i in range(2, 13)) for i in xrange(100000): d[randrange(1, 7) + randrange(1, 7)] += 1 print d Which prints: 2: 2770, 3: 5547, 4: 8379, 5: 10972, 6: 13911, 7: 16610, 8: 14010, 9: 11138, 10: 8372, 11: 5545, 12: 2746 The question I have, why is 11 more frequent than 12? In both cases there is only one way (or two, if you count reverse too) how to get such sum (5 + 6, 6 + 6), so I expected the same probability..?

  • Matplotlib subplots_adjust hspace so titles and xlabels don't overlap ?

    - by Denis
With say 3 rows of subplots in matplotlib, xlabels of one row can overlap the title of the next; one has to fiddle with pl.subplots_adjust( hspace ), annoying. Is there a recipe for hspace that prevents overlaps and works for any nrow ? """ matplotlib xlabels overlap titles ? • Python "Every Other Element" Idiom

    - by Matt Luongo
Hey guys, I feel like I spend a lot of time writing code in Python, but not enough time creating Pythonic code. Recently I ran into a funny little problem that I thought might have an easy, idiomatic solution. Paraphrasing the original, I needed to collect every sequential pair in a list. For example, given the list [1,2,3,4,5,6], I wanted to compute [(1,2),(3,4),(5,6)]. I came up with a quick solution at the time that looked like translated Java. Revisiting the question, the best I could do was l = [1,2,3,4,5,6] [(l[2*x],l[2*x+1]) for x in range(len(l)/2)] which has the side effect of tossing out the last number in the case that the length isn't even. Is there a more idiomatic approach that I'm missing, or is this the best I'm going to get?

  • AudioQueue recording as float

    - by niklassaers
Hi guys, I would like to have the result from my recording as a float in the range [0.0, 1.0], alternatively [-1.0, 1.0] because of a bit of math I want to do on it. When I set my recordingformat to be in float, like this: mRecordFormat.mFormatFlags = kLinearPCMFormatFlagIsFloat; I get: Error: AudioQueueNewInput failed ('fmt?') Does this mean the hardware doesn't support recording to floats? If not, how do I set it to record in floats? If so, are there any processor-friendly ways I can convert a signed integer array to a float array? Cheers Nik

  • GWT Query fails second time -only.

    - by Koran
HI, I have a visualization function in GWT which calls for two instances of the same panels - two queries. Now, suppose one url is A and the other url is B. Here, I am facing an issue in that if A is called first, then both A and B works. If B is called first, then only B works, A - times out. If I call both times A, only the first time A works, second time it times out. If I call B twice, it works both times without a hitch. Even though the error comes at timed out, it actually is not timing out - in FF status bar, it shows till - transferring data from A, and then it gets stuck. This doesnt even show up in the first time query. The only difference between A and B is that B returns very fast, while A returns comparitively slow. The sample code is given below: public Panel(){ Runnable onLoadCallback = new Runnable() { public void run() { Query query = Query.create(dataUrl); query.setTimeout(60); query.send(new Callback() { public void onResponse(QueryResponse response) { if (response.isError()){ Window.alert(response.getMessage()); } } } } VisualizationUtils.loadVisualizationApi(onLoadCallback, PieChart.PACKAGE); } What could be the reason for this? I cannot think of any reason why this should happen? Why is this happening only for A and not for B? EDIT: More research. The query which works all the time (i.e. B is the example URL given in GWT visualization site: see comment [1]). So, I tried in my app engine to reproduce it - the following way s = "google.visualization.Query.setResponse({version:'0.6',status:'ok',sig:'106459472',table:{cols:[{id:'A',label:'Source',type:'string',pattern:''},{id:'B',label:'Percent',type:'number',pattern:'#0.01%'}],rows:[{c:[{v:'Oil'},{v:0.37,f:'37.00%'}]},{c:[{v:'Coal'},{v:0.25,f:'25.00%'}]},{c:[{v:'Natural Gas'},{v:0.23,f:'23.00%'}]},{c:[{v:'Nuclear'},{v:0.06,f:'6.00%'}]},{c:[{v:'Biomass'},{v:0.04,f:'4.00%'}]},{c:[{v:'Hydro'},{v:0.03,f:'3.00%'}]},{c:[{v:'Solar Heat'},{v:0.005,f:'0.50%'}]},{c:[{v:'Wind'},{v:0.003,f:'0.30%'}]},{c:[{v:'Geothermal'},{v:0.002,f:'0.20%'}]},{c:[{v:'Biofuels'},{v:0.002,f:'0.20%'}]},{c:[{v:'Solar photovoltaic'},{v:4.0E-4,f:'0.04%'}]}]}});"; response = HttpResponse(s, content_type="text/plain; charset=utf-8") response['Expires'] = time.strftime('%a, %d %b %Y %H:%M:%S GMT', time.gmtime()) return response Where s is the data when we run the query for B. I tried to add Expires etc too, since that seems to be the only header which has the difference, but now, the query fails all the time. For more info - I am now sending the difference between my server response vs the working server response. They seems to be pretty similar. • Data Structure Behind Amazon S3s Keys (Filtering Data Structure)

    - by dimo414
I'd like to implement a data structure similar to the lookup functionality of Amazon S3. For those of you who don't know what I'm taking about, Amazon S3 stores all files at the root, but allows you to look up groups of files by common prefixes in their names, therefore replicating the power of a directory tree without the complexity of it. The catch is, both lookup and filter operations are O(1) (or close enough that even on very large buckets - S3's disk equivalents - both operations might as well be O(1))). So in short, I'm looking for a data structure that functions like a hash map, with the added benefit of efficient (at the very least not O(n)) filtering. The best I can come up with is extending HashMap so that it also contains a (sorted) list of contents, and doing a binary search for the range that matches the prefix, and returning that set. This seems slow to me, but I can't think of any other way to do it. Does anyone know either how Amazon does it, or a better way to implement this data structure?

  • Creating a specialised view filtering form in Rails

    - by Schroedinger
G'day guys, I have a current set of data, and I generate multiple analyses of this data (each analysis into its own active record item called a pricing_interval) using a helper function at the moment. Currently to analyse the set of data, you need a start time(using datetime_select) an integer (using text_field) and a name (using text_field) I would like on submission of the form to be redirected to the index page of my pricing_interval, as the values will be re-generated. Manually generating a range proves that my helper methods work. How would I build a form that on submit would send parameters to a function in the form of (date, integer, name) so that it could immediately begin work whilst redirecting the user to server/pricing_intervals Anything at all would help, I've spent hours over the past few days trying to get the rails form syntax working properly to no avail, a really straightforward guide to what I would implement to get this working would be amazingly appreciated. I've looked through the form guides, as I'm not creating an object, but merely parsing params, there's got to be an easy way to do this, right?

  • Getting Started with Python: Attribute Error

    - by Nacari
I am new to python and just downloaded it today. I am using it to work on a web spider, so to test it out and make sure everything was working, I downloaded a sample code. Unfortunately, it does not work and gives me the error: "AttributeError: 'MyShell' object has no attribute 'loaded' " I am not sure if the code its self has an error or I failed to do something correctly when installing python. Is there anything you have to do when installing python like adding environmental variables, etc.? And what does that error generally mean? Here is the sample code I used with imported spider class: import chilkat spider = chilkat.CkSpider() spider.Initialize("www.chilkatsoft.com") spider.AddUnspidered("http://www.chilkatsoft.com/") for i in range(0,10): success = spider.CrawlNext() if (success == True): print spider.lastUrl() else: if (spider.get_NumUnspidered() == 0): print "No more URLs to spider" else: print spider.lastErrorText() # Sleep 1 second before spidering the next URL. spider.SleepMs(1000)

  • How do I make this simple list comprehension?

    - by Carson Myers
I'm new to python, and I'm trying to get to know the list comprehensions better. I'm not even really sure if list comprehension is the word I'm looking for, since I'm not generating a list. But I am doing something similar. This is what I am trying to do: I have a list of numbers, the length of which is divisible by three. So say I have nums = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] I want to iterate over the list and get the sum of each group of three digits. Currently I am doing this: for i in range(0, len(nums), 3): nsum = a + b + c for a, b, c in nums[i, i+3] print(nsum) I know this is wrong, but is there a way to do this? I'm sure I've overlooked something probably very simple... But I can't think of another way to do this.
