Is it possible that mod_vhost_alias can read several directories (For example, each users) to find the sites? Like in a hosting setup where different users can create the directories in their home directory?
We are using Outlook Express to access mail through a POP3 server. The problem is that every now and then, Outlook Express starts downloading all old emails, which amounts to tens of thousands of emails. This happens on every single computer (three) at the office.
Is this caused by our OE configuration? Or by our hosting?
I am not able to connect remotely on port 3306. My hosting company says that i have to allow connection on port 3306 using iptables.
Whats the command to type on terminal
My hosting provider won't support certain DNS records (SPF, long CNAMES, etc), but I refuse to switch providers.
I have my own local DNS with a forward zone for my domain, and I'd like to use my local server for SPF, while keeping my provider's DNS for other basic records.
I'm using 1and1 as my registrar/DNS provider.
I installed postfix on my ubuntu vps. The server is hosting mysite.com.
I set the MX records for mysite.com to use google apps for email:
ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM ...
I am using php's mail() function, and emails are working. Google apps has a 500 email / day limit. Am I using this limit? I'm not sure what postfix is doing exactly.
Thanks
I have my subversion hosting set up to be accessed through Apache web server. Everything runs fine. Now I'd like to add another web server to distribute the load between two web servers.
Is it save to have my svn repositories accessed by two web servers at the same time? Does the normal fsfs subversion repository type protect me enough or do I need to switch to Berkely DB for this sort of thing?
I am hosting a website on a CentOS server and all was well until I tried sending emails from my website.
I realized it is taking unusually long to send email and the webpage to refresh. I actually timed it at just over 6 minutes to send one email to 3 addresses.
I have been able to determine the server is utilizing sendmail but I don't know much else about dealing with server issues on a Centos server.
Can anyone please help me out?
Our internal DNS queries go through ActiveDirectory. We are hosting a site that is not in our domain, but internal users need to get the internal IP address for routing.
How do I configure ActiveDirectory to return A records for a few arbitrary domain names, not just those in our own domain?
I need to transfer my LAMP server (FreeBSD 7.0 i386) to another hosting. I would like to also upgrade to the 64bit version (to eliminate 4GB memory limit).
Anyone have some pre-destructive suggestions? Any tutorials that you're familiar with that give an idea of the gotchas? Thanks!
I'm curently hosting my clients web-sites on some vps servers. What I would like to know, how many visitors can use the multiple web sites concurrently, before I need to migrate each of the sites to their seperate servers?
So in laymans terms, how much RAM does a web-page user take on average? For example, how many concurrent visitors can I have on my server, running an Apache server, with 512mb RAM?
In evaluating a rewrite rule that redirects to a specific URL and say the rewrite condition is met, would it be possible to use HTTP_HOST as part of the URL to be redirected to?
Example in question:
RewriteRule .*\.(jpg|jpe?g|gif|png|bmp)$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}/no-leech.jpg [R,NC]
The motive behind this question is a desire to create a single htaccess file that would match against an addon domain (on a shared hosting account) and an infinite amount of subdomains below it to prevent hotlinking of images.
I'm intalling our local server and want to install a virtual machine but it seem vmware ESXi is not suit with our server
Server: Dell SC 1424
CPU : 2 Xeon 3.2G (buss 800, cache L2 2M)
Ram: 6G DDR ECC 266
Hard disk: 2 Hitachi Sata 1TB. Raid Dell Cerc 2s ( raid 0, 1)

I'm wondering if you're familiar with this area and have any idea about a VM software for our server. Just wanted to use server for some purposes ( web hosting, subversion and to experience some server OSs)

Hi,
Just a quick question. When using shared hosting, can system admins (employed by the host) access your files and read your database connectionstring details? Can they also access your database, and view the files, without a connectionstring? I'm assuming there's a certain level of trust, but is this possible/common?
Thanks
Is there a way to disable the PHP setting safe_mode in a client or domain template in Plesk 8.6? Or, to disable it for new domain creation in some other Plesk setting/configuration?
I've Googled, and people seem to think no
I've asked our hosting provider, and they don't think so
I've looked in both the domain and client templates in Plesk and don't see it
Has anyone been able to do this Plesk 8.6 for new domains?
I am changing host and my new host said:
Meanwhile, in order your newly registered hosting account to function correctly until the transfer is ready, you can change the NS records to the following:
ns1.itahost.com
ns2.itahost.com
What does this mean?
I have an http post application that allows me to upload files to my server. I'm hosting the application on a fedora server running tomcat. When I disable firestarter I can post. When firestarter is running I cannot. What can I do to enable posts to my application?
I'm having bit of trouble. I have a server at school that's hosting a database. Normally I've been connecting to it through a VPN-connection, but earlier today it went down. I've checked with other people, and it's definitely down, so the fault's probably not at my end.
Is there a way I can proxy RDP traffic through a SOCKS5 proxy?
I hope I am asking this at the correct forum. I have a client from whom I have developed a PHP based Facebook project, who is hosting their site on IIS with ASP and no access to PHP, so they have created a sub domain to point to my server to host the site. I have an SSL on www.mydomain.com, but their sub domain does not have SSL (app.theirdomain.com).
Would redirection from their side be possible to SSL on my side so that the FB app works?
Hi,
I've a Virtual Private Server with Windows 2003 and root access. This server mainly acts as a web hosting machine (IIS, Apache). Additionally it is used as a mail server.
Is it possible to isolate a mailserver (for example HMailServer) by using VMware Server on Windows 2003 in order to avoid potential viruses moving from the guest into the host system?
Is this is a good direction to protect the web server from viruses?
Kind regards,
Jakub
It looks like someone is using my server and hosting my application on different URL. When I visit this other URL an exact working copy of my website is present, though the browser objects when I attempt to access an HTTPS page. What has this person done?
I'm currently trying to download a full magneto install from a ftp server. The connection keeps failing, it seems as if there are too many files and folders to scan through?
Can anyone shed any light on how to resolve this? The shared platform seems to b e a standard platform based on Plesk 8.6.
As this is a shared server, there is no option for me to really do anything, apart from contact the hosting company (who have offered to zip up all the files for me, but this is not ideal)
I'm hosting a Tversity instance on my Windows 2008 server and sharing some media. My PS3 detects this as a DNLA device and can play back the media just fine.
Tversity shows up on my Xbox 360, but when i click on it, it just loads and loads and after a minute it times out and tells me it can't connect.
Has anyone successfully gotten this working?
