  • reading unicode

    - by user121196
    I'm using java io to retrieve text from a server that might output character such as é. then output it using System.err, they turn out to be '?'. I am using UTF8 encoding. what's wrong? int len=0; char[]buffer=new char[1024]; OutputStream os = sock.getOutputStream(); InputStream is = sock.getInputStream(); os.write(query.getBytes("UTF8"));//iso8859_1")); Reader reader = new InputStreamReader(is, Charset.forName("UTF-8")); do{ len = reader.read(buffer); if (len0) { if(outstring==null)outstring=new StringBuffer(); outstring.append(buffer,0,len); } }while(len0); System.err.println(outstring);

  • Loading Unmanaged C++ in C#. Error Attempted to read or write protected memory

    - by Thatoneguy
I have a C++ function that looks like this __declspec(dllexport) int ___stdcall RegisterPerson(char const * const szName) { std::string copyName( szName ); // Assign name to a google protocol buffer object // Psuedo code follows.. Protobuf::Person person; person->set_name(copyName); // Error Occurs here... std::cerr << person->DebugString() << std::endl; } The corresponding C# code looks like this... [DllImport(@"MyLibrary.dll", SetLastError = true)] public static unsafe extern int RegisterPerson([MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPTStr)]string szName) Not sure why this is not working. My C++ library is compiled as Multi Threaded DLL with MultiByte encoding. Any help would be appreciated. I saw this is a common problem online but no answers lead me to a solution for my problem.

  • Preventing a security breach

    - by Wiz
I am creating a website where you "post", and the form content is saved in a MySql database, and upon loading the page, is retrieved, similar to facebook. I construct all the posts and insert raw html into a template. The thing is, as I was testing, I noticed that I could write javascript or other HTML into the form and submit it, and upon reloading, the html or JS would treated as source code, not a post. I figured that some simple encoding would do the trick, but using is not working. Is there an efficient way to prevent this type of security hole?

  • Print unique ascii characters in eclipse console

    - by Shaded
Hey guys, Kind of a strange question but... here it goes. Recently my application threw an IOException that the text only had a clubs symbol in it (like the suit in cards) I know this is probably because there was a number in there that was cast to a char and printed to the screen, and I've found where that might have happened. The only problem is, I can't recreate it in eclipse because the eclipse console doesn't want to print those characters for me. All I get are boxes. I figure this is an encoding issue or something but I need eclipse to print out those characters just like the windows console would. Is there a setting I can change to do this?

  • Transforming a TXT file in a list, getting wrong

    - by Mike
I have a txt plain file that has a list of numbers. One number per line, like: 978-972-722-649-8 978-972-722-646-7 978-972-722-627-6 978-972-722-625-2 978-972-722-594-1 etc. This list is on a file called file.txt, was created and saved on TextEdit using Western (ISO Latin 1) encoding. Now I am trying to use Applescript to read this file and transform it on a list. I have this script set myDirectory to path to desktop folder as string set myFile to myDirectory & "file.txt" try set open_file to ¬ open for access file myFile without write permission set myList to read open_file using delimiter return close access open_file on error try close access file open_file end try end try after running this script, myList contains just ONE item and this item is "97" (I suppose that is the first two numbers of the first entry). What is going on? Thanks.

  • Reporting sanitized user input to the user via AJAX

    - by JimBo
I am writing some code to give live feedback to the user on the validation of a form using AJAX. I have got it checking length and if the field is empty. Now I want it to sanitize the users input and if the sanatized input differs from the users original input then tell them which characters are not allowed. The code I have written so far works except some characters most notably a '£' symbol result in no response. I think it relates to json_encode and its encoding. Here is the code: $user_input = 'asdfsfs£'; $strip_array = str_split(strip($user_input)); $orig_array = str_split($user_input); $diff_array = array_diff($orig_array,$strip_array); $diff_str = implode(', ',$diff_array); $final = json_encode($diff_str); function strip($input){return htmlentities(strip_tags($input),ENT_QUOTES);} Hope someone can figure out a solution.

  • Rails view error "invalid byte sequence in US-ASCII" error after upgrading Ruby to 1.9.2

    - by Jon
Running Rails 2.3.9 and just upgraded to Ruby 1.9.2p0. I have been putting: # encoding: utf-8 in a bunch of my .rb files where ever "£" character is used, and this seems to be working. But i just got my first view error: invalid byte sequence in US-ASCI for this line of code: <%= number_to_currency(product.price, :unit => "£", :precision => 0) %> I don't think its a coincidence that the "£" character is involved again. Any ideas on how to solve this please? Thanks

  • What is the best way to read GetResponseStream() ?

    - by Dev Dona
What is the best way to read an HTTP response from GetResponseStream ? Currently I'm using the following approach. Using SReader As StreamReader = New StreamReader(HttpRes.GetResponseStream) SourceCode = SReader.ReadToEnd() End Using I'm not quite sure if this is the most effecient way to read an http response. I need the output as string, I've seen an article ( http://www.informit.com/guides/content.aspx?g=dotnet&seqNum=583 ) with a different approach but I'm not quite if it's a good one. And in my tests that code had some encoding issues with in different websites. How do you read web responses?

  • Problem in reading configuration file from Class library project

    - by Newbie
If I create an app.config file in a console apps like this <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <appSettings> <add key ="key1" value ="val1"/> </appSettings> </configuration> and access the same from the console application like object sourcePath = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["key1"]; or by object sourcePath = System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings["key1"]; I am able to get the value. But if I do the same thing in a class library project, I am getting a null value. Why? Where I am making mistake? I have added the proper reference System.Configuration. I am using C# 3.0

  • How to let users with required permission download a file via php?

    - by Yegor
I have a php file that acts as a gatekeeper for all the files I want people to download, who ahve sufficient privilages. The code I use throw the file to the user is header('Content-Description: File Transfer'); header('Content-Type: application/octet-stream'); header("Content-disposition: attachment; filename=\"".$public_filename."\""); header("Content-Transfer-Encoding: Binary"); header('Expires: 0'); header('Cache-Control: must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0'); header('Pragma: public'); header("Content-length: ".$f_filesize); readfile($file_path); Most files are fairly large.... 400mb-10GB. What would be a good way to do this, and keep the true locations + filenames secret, so people cant just link to the files directly, but HAVE to link thru my download.php?file=ID gatekeeper? Thanks

  • Troubles with NSString writeToFile

    - by Jesse
Hi everyone, I have been working on a simple text editor in Cocoa/Objective-C for a practice project and I have come across an error that I would never have expected. I have an NSString for my file's contents as well as an NSString for it's path. When I attempt to write the contents to a file, I use the following method: [FileContents writeToFile: CurrentFileName atomically: NO encoding: NSStringEncoding error: nil]; I've used this method many times without error yet today, I am getting an error: "Expected expression before 'NSStringEncoding'" If anyone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated. I can't figure out what could be causing the error. Thanks a lot!

  • How to handle #(hash) character in SEO friendly url?

    - by arvinsim
How do you bypass the default behaviour if #(hash) which is to go to a specific part of a page? The problem that I have is that the # character is a part of the SEO friendly url which is a title and the #(hash) is part of the content (i.e. like with C#). I can't retrieve the whole string and I only get the characters before the #. Example: www.domain.com/C#-programming-book in this example I only get 'C' and not the '-programming-book' part. I am not using any javascript at the moment and would like to only use a PHP solution for this. Before anyone suggests that I used url encoding, the criteria for the seo friendly url is that it should be human readable and easily remembered. So converting the hash to '%23' does not pass the criteria. Is there no way around it?

  • XSLT ... I can'f find a (working) find minimum value in XML and set variable

    - by Bob
I've search for hours and not found an example that allows for the very first position to be the lowest. I'm getting 'False' instead of the value returned .... EDIT: Oddly enough if I run a 2nd instance as MAX_Landed with ascending it returns a value just fine. If I switch the order in the XSLT the first instance will return 'False' and the 2nd will work. • Prevent initial array from sorting

    - by George
I have an array where the order of the objects is important for when I finally output the array in a document. However, I'm also sorting the array in a function to find the highest value. The problem is that I after I run the function to find the highest value, I can't get the original sort order of the array back. // html document var data = [75,300,150,500,200]; createGraph(data); // js document function createGraph(data) { var maxRange = getDataRange(data); // simpleEncode() = google encoding function for graph var dataSet = simpleEncode(data, maxRange); } function getDataRange(dataArray) { var num = dataArray.sort(sortNumber); return num[0]; } I've also tried setting data to dataA and dataB and using dataB in the getDataRange function and dataA in the simpleEncode function. Either way, data always end up being sorted from highest to lowest.

  • TSQL Prefixing String Literal on Insert - Any Value to This, or Redundant?

    - by SethO
I just inherited a project that has code similar to the following (rather simple) example: DECLARE @Demo TABLE ( Quantity INT, Symbol NVARCHAR(10) ) INSERT INTO @Demo (Quantity, Symbol) SELECT 127, N'IBM' My interest is with the N before the string literal. I understand that the prefix N is to specify encoding (in this case, Unicode). But since the select is just for inserting into a field that is clearly already Unicode, wouldn't this value be automatically upcast? I've run the code without the N and it appears to work, but am I missing something that the previous programmer intended? Or was the N an oversight on his/her part? I expect behavior similar to when I pass an int to a decimal field (auto-upcast). Can I get rid of those Ns?

  • [cli/linux] get plain text from raw emails (not attachments extraction)

    - by etuardu
Hi, having a raw email as input (i.e. the text between "DATA" and "." sent by a smtp client) I need to extract the mail content (which I know is always text only) as plain text. This means decoding transfer encoding (if any: could be base64 or quoted-printable), merging mutiparts (if any), and stripping headers. I tried various tools that would do that: mewdecode, uudecode, uudeview... I only managed to get this last one to work, but it won't output anything if the mail is not MIME encoded and it stores its output in an unpredictable (nor forceable) filename, so it's hard to use it in a not-interactive shell script. Since this is a pretty common job (every mail client have to do that), it's weird it's so complicated. Do you have some hints? (Actually, forcing uudeview to output in a certain file would be good enough). Thank you!
