  • Call Web Service via BizTalk Orchestration via received file

This example shows how some business logic can be implemented by receiving a file into a BizTalk Orchestration and calling a Web Service. The results of the Web Service call are decided upon from the contents of the incoming file and the response message is constructed accordingly. The response message is also saved down to the local file system.  read moreBy BiZTech KnowDid you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • How to review the current state of open source vs. closed source graphics drivers?

    - by Bucic
How to know whether it's worth it to replace open source drivers installed by default with proprietary ones. Are there any benchmarks? Major known issues summaries. I don't mean 'at the time of writing this post'. I mean an up-to-date status on how the drivers compare. This page https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ certainly doesn't do much on the matter, nor it even mentions Intel. EDIT: I've just learned there is no Intel proprietary driver because they made their drivers open source http://askubuntu.com/a/17395/29347

  • Updated Blue and Dark Visual Studio 2010 Themes

I updated my previous dark theme for Visual Studio 2010 and added a new one with a blue background, similar to the background (but a bit lighter) to that of Visual Studio 2010s blue. I updated a few fonts to fit in with it and for the past week I have been using this and found that its even easier on my eyes than the dark theme. I made some changes to the dark theme, too, and include both of them in the download file here. • Metsys.Bson - the BSON Library

Earlier this month I detailed the implementation of the bson serialization we used in Norm - the C# MongoDB driver. I've since extracted the serialization/deserialization code and created a standalone project for it - in the hopes that it might prove helpful to someone. If you need an efficient binary protocol to transfer data, look no further. There are two methods you need to be aware of: Serializer.Serialize and Deserializer.Deserialize. User u1 = new User{...}; byte[] bytes = Serializer.Serialize(u1); User...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? Its been a long time since I included my this discussion is only approximately correct disclaimer so Ill just preface it here.  In the interest of space and clarity, this discussion is only approximately correct.  OK, now we can move on I love micro-benchmarks. Really.  I rely on micro-benchmarks to help me understand what is going on in my system on a day to day or even build to build basis.  Understanding which micro-benchmarks are really vital is essential to keeping your...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Creating your First Crystal Report for Use in a .NET Application

Have you ever had to create a custom report within an application you have written for a customer? Most developers have, and there are two schools of thought on how developers normally perform this task. Some choose to create the report using the same technology that the application was created in (ASP, WinFrom, WPF) while others choose to use a reporting package such as Crystal Reports. Using a reporting package will help create reports rapidly. This article walk you through the creation of your first report using Crystal Reports.Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Formalizing programmers errors

    - by Maksee
Every one of us make errors leading to bugs. Once I wanted to start logging my errors for future analysis, probably mentioning project title, approximate time spent and the most important, the type of error. For example when I copy-pasted a fragment about 'x' and replaced every occurrence of 'x' with 'y' and forgot to replace a tiny piece, this goes to 'copy-paste error'. The usefulness of this approach depends on whether I can formalize my errors at all and probably minimizing the number of types to choose from. Otherwise I would start postponing, ignoring and so on so make this system useless. Are there existing research in this area, probably a known minimum set of errors? Maybe some of you already tried to implement something like this and succeeded/failed?

  • Opinion of OSCON?

    - by 16bytes
This year I have the opportunity to travel to the conference of my choice and thus far have been looking at OSCON. For those who have attended, what is your opinion of the conference? Any tips/tricks? Any tips to effectively plan what to see/attend? Any suggestions for lesser known conferences? As a working programmer, my interest is pretty general; I want to learn more about up-and-coming tech that I may have a chance to use and/or use more effectively.

  • Is there a good way to get pixel-perfect collision detection in XNA?

    - by ashes999
Is there a well-known way (or perhaps reusable bit of code) for pixel-perfect collision detection in XNA? I assume this would also use polygons (boxes/triangles/circles) for a first-pass, quick-test for collisions, and if that test indicated a collision, it would then search for a per-pixel collision. This can be complicated, because we have to account for scale, rotation, and transparency. WARNING: If you're using the sample code from the link from the answer below, be aware that the scaling of the matrix is commented out for good reason. You don't need to uncomment it out to get scaling to work.

  • Where can a list of Desktop web browsers be found at?

    - by Sn3akyP3t3
I have another question posted in regards to the practicality of whitelisting. In this question I'm simply looking for an frequently updated list of top known used Desktop web browsers to use as part of my whitelist. I'm not trying to target any specific OS so please show one, show all. The list of browsers for desktops isn't exploding, but it does grow. I've only recently been made aware of other browsers that have multiple rendering engines. I'm not always on top of the text based browsers found out there either. I'm aware of the mobile browser platform and there is an active list used with regular expression for identification purposes that I will use as well as whatever I can find for the desktop platforms.

  • Session and Cache are By Reference

Recently a colleague remarked that if he got a List of some type out of the ASP.NET Cache, and changed an item, the Cache item would also change. That is correct. Session (InProc) , Cache and Application all return "live" references. A good writeup on this can be found by friend and fellow MVP Rick Strahl here:http://www.west-wind.com/Weblog/posts/1214.aspxIf you do not want this behavior, you need to either delete the Session / Cache / Application object and replace it with what you want later, or...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Samsung 700Z broken by Precise install

    - by Eric
I tried to install Precise from DVD media and got to the point where the Ubuntu logo is on screen indicating the the installer is loading. At that point the screen went dark. After some time I rebooted the machine. To my dismay the machine would no longer start (Powers on but but no bios start up screen, I can hear initial hard drive spin which soon dies). This is a new machine (less than 2 months) and I have had no previous indications of defects before this incident. In other words, I am convinced the Ubuntu install had something to do with the failure of the machine. Has anyone else had this problem with this model machine? Is this known to happen with precise or other versions of Ubuntu?

  • Ubuntu on Thinkpad Edge 11/13/14/15

    - by lasseespeholt
I think a community wiki on problems (and solutions) when installing Ubuntu (10.10) on a Thinkpad Edge 11 would be nice (because I just got one ;)). I'll contribute with my own problems and solutions, and hope others will join too. Thinkwiki entry for the Edge 11 Known problems: No wifi-driver, solution: answer #1, answer #2 Fan is loud, even though it's on auto. No solution. Thinkfan is a possible solution, but correction values for sensors should be supplied (mapping sensors to specific areas). Also, one sensor is between -100C and +100C - maybe some kind of deactivation would help. FN keys stop working: see below. No sound on headphones: see below.
